I don't understand spanish, but Hasta la Raiz is one of my favorite records this year
+PJ Trust me, Lyrics are the best part of Hasta la raiz, try to get a good translation of them or something like that, you won't be disapointed
***** I often listen to music that isn't in my mother tongue (swedish), but I mostly understand it. Sometimes it helps I think, or say to myself at least - like in the case of Juana Molina where her voice and words become more easily perhaps part of the music and the mystic.
With Natalia, I understand that the lyrics on this album is very important, but somehow I get the impression that what she's expressing is beyond words. With this mindset it's likely I will be disappointed, but I will try to find out more about the lyrics anyway.
I don't think anything is the best part of her music, it's rather the combination of everything. It's how she sings, it's the melodies. It is impossible to answer, but would you like it as much if the lyrics was the same but someone else sang them, and in a different way?
You should listen "Mala Madre" by Camila Moreno, is better

But, as I wrote, "Hasta la Raiz" was *one* of my favorite records of last year. To think one is better than the other can feel unnecessary. Both are great!
By that time I had listened to Raiz for a longer time and had more connection with it. I think you perhaps gain more with knowing spanish when listening to Moreno. Natalia's melodies are a little bit clearer.
Camila is more varied, Natalia always make similar music, I never listen something like Tu Mamá Te Mató or Piedad in the latin music, is very experimental.
Cualquiera que lleve un Disco de Nick Drake, tiene automáticamente un gusto exquisito.

Me gusta saber que "Edith Piaf" sea de su inspiración ya lo notaba en "Hasta a raíz" y aunque no lo menciona también "Jeanette" - "Pourquoi tu vis et où tu vas" se parece a la de "nada es suficiente", y aunque es raro aveces siento que hace un poco la voz al estilo "Carla Morrison", "Chavela Vargas" y Lila Downs"....pues que me encanta como le ha quedado el álbum ya que a mi también me gustan todas estas cantantes y Natalia es de mis favoritas tiene una voz "unica y hermosa" que bueno saber cuales son sus influencias musicales, no cualquier artista las dice!!!

Dear Amoeba, I watched all the Whats in my Bag videos before my first trip to the LA location last December. My first trip into Amoeba was like stepping into a dream. I had never seen such overwhelming selection. I felt like I was HOME. I will be returning again next month and cant wait to relive that experience :D
