  • 2012 Ford Mustang BOSS 302 Tooling Tryout #1 V8TV-Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode #168:
Each week, Muscle Car Of The Week looks back at a cool car from The Brothers Collection, and this week, we’re not looking back very far. This is a 2012 Ford Mustang BOSS 302, a direct descendant of the first generation BOSS 302s from 1969 and 1970, and Ford stayed true to their mission when creating the modern version of the BOSS. And yes, there’s something special about this particular car as well.

Ford Performance really nailed it with this Boss 302 model. I have one and still can't believe how amazing it is every time I drive it. Wow.

Project 747. Lots of ppl below are calling the Boss engine “Roadrunner”, but fyi, according to the book that comes with the car, when management heard some people internally using the term Roadrunner (faster than a coyote) they quickly dismissed that name because, according to product planning manager Todd Soderquist, “we weren’t going to put a Mopar name on our icon.” They “quickly came up with a new code name - 747.” This name was due to the aerodynamic features of the Boss 302 and historic connections between Ford and Boeing. I drive a 2013 Black/Grey Laguna Seca - absolutely raw car (for 2013) which I love and never plan to sell.

I have a 2012 Boss identical to this one and I freaking love it. It does a nice job of combining modern refinement with the sound and feel of old school muscle. And it rips!

I’m on the fence about buying one
You still have it ? And still loving it ? How’s the MT82?

    • @captainrawn
      @captainrawn ปีที่แล้ว

@@Canadiancigarguy No I sold it about a year ago. It's a great car but I suspect that the newer Mustangs can hang with it. The MT 82 was ok I didn't have any issues with it. It is a little bit noisier inside because they didn't have a lot of sound insulation in them to save weight. Biggest reason I sold it is because I wasn't all that inspired by the looks of it. I have a few cars and that one just didn't do it for me over the long haul. The driving experience in it was top notch though. Only had about 15 K on it when I sold it.

My thanks to Ford for officially starting the "Muscle Cars v2.0" era in 2005. Ford, Mopar, Chevy....the gang is all back together again and it's great.

The 2012 Boss 302 has even been named by Ford as, "The best Mustang ever built." Motortrend made the same statement. They are sky rocketing in value.

Love my 2013 BOSS 302! I've owned old school muscle, and this car has plenty of old school charm with modern day reliability, safety and road manners. "Track key" was not mentioned, but it adds to the BOSS 302's forte.

I like these headlights better than the ones on the new style Mustangs. Unfortunately, I think the 2012 and 2013 Bosses have already become collector cars.

Note: That's not a coyote engine. That is the ROADRUNNER engine with completely different internals and parts.

I used to be a stickler for only considering older Muscle cars worthy of praise, but i have grown to appreciate the fact that modern muscle cars are flat out SUPERIOR in almost every category.
I still appreciate the character of past generation muscle, but modern generation muscle cars have EARNED their place.

Yeah, it really ticks me off when people dismiss modern cars offhandedly with some generic, baseless, biased bullcrap like "it's made of plastic", etc.

I was going to mention that the Boss 302 & Boss 302 Laguna Seca ran 1/4 mile times of 12.4-12.3 by multiple magazine testers . The performance pack GT's ran 12.7 sec times .

I had a 1969 Boss 302 and it was not stripped down, it had the deluxe (Mach 1) interior as an option. A/C and auto was not an option but had power steering.

Enjoyed my 12 Boss for 3 seasons and took it to the track (Mosport Grand Prix) once each season and it was amazing. Recommend any Boss owners to get yours to the track at least once to see how great they perform.....without worrying about traffic and police. :-)

Is that because of the larger valves and intake they put on this car? Or are there other additions that give it the different name?

Buick used to show up to the party with some amazing cars. I feel as though they wont be coming back anymore but their 1970-72 GS and their 80s G body cars were without doubt beautiful. been looking for a reasonable 1972 sun coupe for a while. Majority seem to be rusted out sadly.

I'd like to know how such machines "escape" the factory and end up in private hands. Years ago, Pilot cars were almost always destroyed, but some did manage to avoid the crusher

i think now they let them out on purpose because the manufactures are starting to realize what those cars are worth after fourty or fifty years. i mean they only made twelve of these cars. they will be worth a lot in fifty years!

A better car in every way, yet still the mechanical connection is lost. Maybe it is because you need less skill to drive it or maybe it doesn't need the same level of attention under the hood. Maybe we now know how special these cars are from day one. Still would be very happy to own one.

Just because there were over 80,000 Mustangs produced in 2012 doesn't mean there were over 80,000 Boss 302 Mustangs produced in 2012. If you're insinuating that just because there were a lot of Mustangs (in general) produced that year, then this Boss 302 isn't "rare", then apply that same logic to a '71 Hemi Cuda to realize how off base you are with that assumption.
