- So, after I missed the openings of the four most recent stations in Britain.. I felt an urge to visit them all in one day. And here's how that went! I visited Marsh Barton, Portway Park and Ride, Reading Green Park and Thanet Parkway!

Honestly, I’m sure this is some of your best work yet (and not just because we’re in it)! Great video, and thanks for having us on! ~ Daniel (although I’m sure I speak on behalf of Dylan and Hugh as well)
So typical that Great Western Railway pulled a Trans Pennine (as Jen would say) with that cancellation, but as it turned out, this was an epic video, and great that you had the TFL Three to guide yourself through London
At least Headbolt Lane won't be so far to travel when it eventually opens
Ridiculous that trains were delayed and connectuons missed but was a great trip you took us on and nice to see the TFL Three as well, still need to go to Reading Green Park... that will be sorted this month, great video
As a Exeter train enthusiast, I'm thankful you went to the new station of marsh barton
An idea for a video: Victoria to victoria via victoria. Manchester Victoria to southend victoria via london victoria.
Then a train to Nottingham and walk to Victoria centre then get bus to Sheffield Victoria
@@sglenny001 so victoria to victoria via victoria and victoria?
@@Les_MeilleursMCFC yep
Via the Victoria line
...that moment where Nick realized, after 8 hours and 41 minutes, he still had to get back HOME.
If Nick is right Reading green park opened on my birthday
so that's something I have to think about now
Great video and congratulations for visiting the 4 newest stations 🎉 especially in the space of 9 hours, that must've been quite exhausting travelling that far in one day especially with the train delays and getting across London 😅
You've pretty much crossed the entire width of the country with that epic trip!
Reminds me of a similarly ambitious trip I made during day 4 of my All Line Rover excursion last month to really push the limits of how many cities I could visit in a day. Basically I went all the way from Blackburn, where I live, to Gloucester (Northern 150, Avanti 390, LNWR 350 and XC 170 changing at Preston, Crewe and Tamworth) then hopped on a GWR 165 to Bristol TM with a quick change to an 800 to Bath Spa, then explored Bath for a bit before hopping on a GWR 158 to Salisbury (aircon was so needed in that weather), where I also had a nice wander, then onwards to Southampton Central on a 166, where I had enough time to walk to the city hall and back before getting a SWR 444 all the way to London Waterloo. Thereafter, it was an Avanti Pendolino straight back to Preston from Euston after a quick hop up the tube.
I did (because I dont like paying much) a Megabus set of Journeys . Whichway Burnley to Manchester, Manchester-Birmingham Birmingham Cardiff, local bus Cardiff-Cwmbran (to visit Cwmbran Garage open day), Cwmbran-Cardiff (As I didnt trust Newport services but did think about it) Cardiff - London Victoria - London 44 bus to Tooting and back to the london relatives.
@@highpath4776 wow, that sounds epic; I need to try something like this sometime!
How long did it take?
i really enjoyed watching this out of the 4 stations ive only visited Reading Green park & amazing to see TFLThree they do brilliant content brilliant vlog
Always great to see a new video of yours, must've been stressful with the amount of trains and luck with timings! (in first 10 mins also)
Brilliant video Nick, really mad how you visited these 4 new stations in one day. Shame there was a few cancellations and delays though.
Such an exceptional video. This is a crazy amount of work and you pulled it off and made a great final product!
Thanks for taking us on another of your journeys. Best of luck to you on other ventures with no delays.
Nice one Nick! Loved it
How ironic! I walked it to Marsh Barton from Exeter city centre! I didn’t intend to, but do to circumstances at the time, that’s what happened. I also had a dip in the canal to get refreshed!
Great video! I must visit more new stations myself.
The best reopening video. Great 4 in 1 video. Keep up the good work.
Great vlog and nice mad challenge visiting the 4 new stations in one day Nick. I’ve done Reading Green Park and Portway Park & Ride but the other 2 are abit further from where I live so haven’t done them.
Omg! So cool! Only 9 hours!? OMG that's definitely a long day. Wish we could do stuff like that here in the US. Also, I feel like Jen would appreciate knowing she's not the only one that gets interrupted by train announcements! 😂🤣😁
Brilliant video as always mate
Great video keep up the great work
Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it
I just subscribed to the channel keep up the good work ❤❤❤ and plus well done!!!!
The one thing I hate most about train changes on longer journies is how long it takes the train doors to open most of the time. The number of times I have nearly missed a train as a result of that is not insignificant
Amazing vid I’ve subscribed
Great work. And a great idea to do all four in one go. Now go and have that well deserved cup of ☕️ tea
Excellent work and effort!
Our rail network is just brilliant, the idea you can get around the country really within a day is just so fun. This video reminds me so much of the sort of travel I do; once I did Birmingham to Glasgow, then to Edinburgh, then back to Glasgow, then London, and then finally back to Birmingham all in one day😂
absolutely. despite the fact that 99% of people complain about out railways, we really are INCREDIBLY lucky!
I think it says more about the size of the country than the quality of the transport networks, really... Yes lot of journeys are possible over a small area, but a lot of journeys are not necessarily all that fast or relaxing. It just so happens that there are lots of people and places clustered on a small island
it will be even more brilliant when the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen and Afon Wen to Bangor lines re-open. And lines that were cut off in other places, like in East Anglia for example.
@@RWL2012 Aberystwyth to Carmarthen will be an absolutely spectacular line to be reopened. I’d do Birmingham New Street to London Euston, then hop over to London Paddington, then a sexy GWR 800 to Carmarthen, then on to Aberystwyth, and finally back to Birmingham. Going somewhere via London is so god damn fun 🤩
I disagree because the pricing and integration of rail services is abysmal. The benchmark for public transport is Switzerland or Japan or even Luxembourg as it's FREE
Solid video, great effort for such a long journey
Congratulations on completing all 4 new railway stations in one day. Marvellous work Nick. More new railway stations will be added next year and beyond. Have you done Soham, Cambridgeshire and Reston, Scottish Borders.
I love watching your videos. This is one is the best
That's some effort Nick! Fair play for doing it!
Another great vid Nick! Weird seeing you visiting my local area, don't think you've been to Exeter or the surrounding area in your previous content
Your coming from where I used to live to where I’m living now. Lived in St Thomas the next station from Marsh Barton, now live in Rainham Kent.
Great video, well done, long day! Something that stood out was how all four new stations were deserted. Which begs the question - would the money have been better spent on other projects, for instance reopening new (old) lines..?
Pretty certain they weren't deserted. The clips shows were very short and at certain angles. It's more respectful to not show people tbh.
Good video mate, was nice to meet you the other day on P14 at Piccadilly. (TP staff) 😄
Nice to see you too!
That’s a great video! I live at a local station between Exeter & Bristol.
Well done on completing your challenge.
Hi Nick, have enjoyed your video ramblings very much, according to a recent video the newest station to be opened is In Wales, on the Llangollen line to Corwen, I know it's a preserved railway but it has a new station!! ps you ca also walk a little of the way along the line where it split off at Ruabon
I wonder how many meetings it took for them to decide "Portway Parkway" wasn't going to happen
Great video, and also travelling on a train in the UK you never get easy on the train😂
headbolt lane is new as well it would have been good to see you travel up there to include it with these. right up north.
cant wait to visit marsh barton next year!!
I do take the Severn Beach line very occasionally, and it's sooo slow that it's a bit painful (it's also Avonmouth said as mouth, not m'th). As a Bathonian, I'm glad you think it's nice here, and fun fact Bath Spa is actually one of the busiest 2-platform stations in the UK and the second busiest overall in the south west
Thanet Parkway = close to being the biggest double arrow vinyl sign on the network ?
You seemed a bit wary of going to Eastern Kent - Thanet Parkway is right next to my hometown!
Im exhausted just watchi ng you cheers from Melbourne Australia
Nice video! Typical GWR with those cancellations and delays! At least you didn't get two in a row like I did once. As for the stations, Marsh Barton could do with another footbridge/underpass so that you don't have to spend over a minute crossing to the other platform and also a toilet. Thanet Parkway has a great station entrance but very boring platforms with little facilities. Reading Green Park has to be my favourite out of these stations.
I always see partway park and ride when driving over that bridge
Great video
Good video nick
Well done Nick
Reading Greenpark you could also go by Basingstoke, Waterlooo and London Bridge or Charingcross ? Stations nice, little pointless yourney !
I've never felt so much second hand stress in the first 3 minutes of a video than I did today
Nick for you do the challenge in one day with all the connections (Some good and some bad) was nothing short of "Epic" Never mind you missed the openings of the four most resent stations when they opened.🤔. Who else has done them all in *ONE DAY* We are not worthy! 😲👌👍.
I just checked what was the fifth most recently opened station - which was opened 25 days before the Reading one - was Inverness Airport /- now *that* would have been an epic end to the day!
Is nobody going to tell Nick he was on a refurbished Javelin?
good stuff
I live in Exeter, ten minutes away from marsh Barton
i went on southeastern's javelins 6 years ago when they didn't have the 10 year sticker
Nick getting his fix of Turbos in one day!
Nice try! it's LOADS quicker from Padington to St Pancras by Liz line and Thameslink. Especially if you use the turbo lift C at Farringdon. The Thameslink platforms are right next to the HS1 at the north end of St P too...
14:44 we wouldn't mind HS2 too but it's northern sections have (Not surprised) been cancelled (said to start it in Leeds or Manchester for it to get built) Done in a day😮 how long to get home from Thanet ?
Nick you always make things difficult trying to do 4 stations in different areas of the country. You must do you home work on train times and connections.
very cool
04:40 I’m very clever 😂😂
Reminds me of that song by Crowded House...'Four Stations in One Day'.
.
.
What do you mean...'Seasons'??
I believe that version was by "Crowded Vestibule"😊
Nice one, Charley.
Avon mouth not avonmuth! Js! Great video as always!
Nick, you could have done the pointless journey of Canterbury West to Canterbury East! Or the Maidstone stations.
I doubt Elizabeth Line from Reading would be quicker, but might be easier for a Javelin by changing at Stratford ?
As a train ticket nerd, is there any chance you can share the ticketing information for these trips? I love finding out about silly anomalies in the train ticketing system. Although to be honest I would rather we had a simple fare system and anomalies didn’t exist!
I was thinking the same thing too!
3:31 Local to the area, it's pronounced AvonMOUTH as in a literal mouth instead of muth. I think even google gets that wrong so don't sweat it :)
What kind of ticketing have you used for this journey? Was it simply advance singles / anytime singles maybe some split ticketing, or were you able some rovers or anything else?
Pretty much all just a load of advance and anytime split tickets
@@NickBadley thanks for the answer!
Being a bad traveller ( i get very bored on any journey lasting more than 2 hours) i admire people that can do these long challenges. Do you mentally prepare for a long day?
You could of got got of at reading and went on Elizabeth line to abbey wood then southeastern
It is a pity Elizabeth line doesnt have a passenger tunnel connection to the Victoria Line for Kings X
That passenger connection tunnel would be almost a mile long if it had one, far quicker/easier to change trains at Farringdon from the Purple to the Circle/Met/H&City and go one stop to Kings X.
@@CrazyInWeston i think I meant Bond St -> Oxford Circus (which isnt a mile)
@@highpath4776 If you take the Hanover Square exit at Bond Street, the entrance to Oxford Circus is only 200 meters away.
julie berry: we are now arriving at thanet parkway
an idea for a really really pointless journey: Porthmadog Station to Porthmadog Harbour station.
Now that's just mean. It would take literally all day. Train to Shrewsbury, train to Llandudno junction, down to Blaenau Ffestiniog and Ffestiniog railway to Harbour
@@railnut21 that's why I said really really pointless
When you were in the south east did you do Canterbury east to west
I think Nick loves trains
disappointed that you didn't say "and this is the riding bit" after saying "this is the parking bit" at Portway Park & Ride lol
Just as well all four stations are on the south of England. If they were any farther apart, this video might not have been possible.
@NickBadley Network rail has announced there intention to build a new station on the Blackpool To Preston Line
Cracking video!
You missed out on Inverness Airport station as a new station in Britain :)
GWR still has HST sets?
Can you go to GWR to Weymouth?
So happy that you express your frustrations with your true feelings. Refreshing to hear "Dam!" instead of "Gosh Golly Gee Wizz!" It keeps your adventures real! I must admit, as an American I admire the British Railway system is so extensive. However, as an Autistic person, I would quickly go into full meltdown mode trying to naviate your system for even a single day!
Nick badley - “I have been awake for 6 hours today and haven’t had a single cup of tea”
Meanwhile me - “I have been awake for 24 hours and have not had a single lick of tea, coffee or sleep”….
and technically southern too
would love to see any delay repay ( though just under 30mins might be nil ?) comments from companies
Ridiculous you say. Buy the Belfast to Penzance ticket....
And then return! Well, for £56 each way, rude not to 😊
Quick question: is there a ticket where you can travel on all of Britain's railways for 1 day?
You can get all line rovers, though I don't know what the minimum amount of time you can have one for is
@@grassytramtracks Ok, Thanks!
All that way on one cup of tea and no lunch. Which was the best of the new stations?
dread to think how much this all cost haha
14:42 Not coming anytime soon. Its been deemed ‘unachievable’
Headbolt Lane in Merseyside is opening soon….
Pointless journeys: St Pancras Tameslink - saint Pancras Eurostar
Lol. So having to detour via Lille Europe - i.e. the first scheduled Eurostar stop out of London.
Julie Berry - who's she? We call her Anne Ouncer!
Loved this video! nice to see you ending the video in my beautiful home county (Kent), It's a shame you Didn't cover more on it as it's usually referred to as "The Cornwall of the East"
If anybody is interested in seeing all the lovely and wonderful things Kent has to offer I have a channel with topics covering town tours, adventures, the many beaches we have here and interesting places (please subscribe) with most of my videos set here in Kent with new content every Sunday! Many thanks 😊
You don't realise how much Kent is the garden of England until you leave it and return. I recall coming back after 3 weeks in Tunisia and it seemed so green
