I really like how you brought up her potential 1-2 range combat issue, that is one of those problems that sets her apart from her fellow pallies who can cut into those no problem and can be seen as a major weakness.

TECHNICALLY, the cost to using Isadora is using literally anyone else who might otherwise occupy her deployment slot. But then again, the same holds true for any unit that isn't the main lord.
It reminds me of my first time playing FE7, or rather my first time playing any FE game. When I reached the chapter where Isadora joins, my Kent was looking bad, and Sain even worse, so when I saw a new Paladin showing up, I ended up deciding to bench both of the christmas cavaliers, and sold all Knight's Crests I had, and just used Isadora instead for the rest of the game.
She performed well enough during the playthrough that I didn't regret my decision, and ever since then she have been a staple unit on all of my FE7 runs, to the point where I would feel weird for not using her.
What did you do with Marcus in this particular run?
On that particular run I didn't use him, only after that run I started to pay more attention to Marcus and started to use him more and more.

I would argue that Lowen is one of the best utility units in the game. He's easily the best use of your EXP in earlygame as all your other starter units are either not worth in the long run or don't use the EXP as efficiently. 30% strength is a benefit rather than a detriment as it allows Lowen to act as a Jagen/chip damage dealer in the midgame, lowering enemy health enough for your weaker units like Raven, Heath, the peg knights, etc to finish them off. This is especially good if you want to go for Linus's Four-Fanged Offense to get Geitz, as it can be an extremely helpful method to getting your Lords built up. He's even built for decent enemy phase thanks to his natural bulk-oriented growths.
Stats aren't everything - it's how you use 'em that matters.
Plus, he has the best haircut out of literally any FE character so far. Can't beat that.
So basically Isadora is what all paladins should have looked like, balanced. Can win most matchups with the right tool for the job but isn't overwhelming in any and can get quickly screwed over by an unfavorable situation.

Contrary to the video, my first impression of isadora was that she was a goddess , and on the same level as Marcus. Most of my fe experience at the time was from SS so when I saw a prepromoted paladin I just assumed they were amazing. Thanks Seth

I think it's fine to give her the Body Ring from the desert. One of the better candidates, but everything I showed in this video was her at base level with no stat boosters.

That’s makes sense to show her with just her bases, I was surprised you didn’t mention giving her a body ring but that would give more legitimacy to the claim that she’s bad because of her con so I see why you did that.
Seems like people wouldn't field Isadora because they would be afraid to train a mediocre unit in end game. Which means people worry too much about end game honestly, seems like a Pitfall.

I mean from this video he made her sound like a mediocre archer that fights in melee instead of a generally useful unit and she really doesn't seem to do much of what one wants a paladin for except the fact that she can have rescue utility.
I honesty don't blame people for worrying about endgame as much in FE7 because of that Dragon. It always does 39 damage regardless of Defense, so you'll at least want to worry about HP lategame.
I really like your point on low con/high speed vs low speed/high con. I think people get too wrapped up in "gasp SPEED PENALTY" although Isadora's speed is fine + many FE7 enemies are as slow as your Pitfalls series upload frequency anyway. Great analysis, keep up the good work.
Keep in mind, she also comes on the same chapter as the first Wvyern Rider does so players may be tempted to use Heath more as he’s a new class

In other words, she's not the best paladin. BUT SHE'S A PALADIN!
Units like Isadora I'd describe as highly situational. Like the point you make about how she shines when she gets control of the weapon triangle and that she can 1v1 enemies well. To me, units like this are fun to use because it's satisfying to find the right situation in which to use them. However, I'd argue FE7's relatively easy difficulty and lack of deployment slots make it hard to justify using her. Think it would've been interesting to talk through how a unit like Isadora (or Isadora herself) would be potentially more valuable if the average FE7 enemy was more difficult, or if resources to level up your other units in the first half of Eliwood/Hector mode were more scarce. You allude to this, but think it's often overlooked how "good" a unit is is determined heavily by the context of the game they're in.
I think if she came in a little earlier and enemies were a bit stronger, she wouldn't be so overlooked, but the need for a relative "specialist" like her is pretty nuanced and it's easy to look at her stats and decide to bench her pretty immediately.

I don't think Isadora is bad, but I really can't find the place for her.
HHM is incredibly stingy on deployment slots, so I can rarely find justification for fielding her instead of the other ace members of the army.
I suppose if you planned far enough ahead then Isadora would allow you to train one fewer unit, meaning all your other units could have a bit more exp. Might not be worth it, though.

First of all, Mekkah has addressed EXP Distribution in previous videos. To sum up the points most relevant: It doesn't matter how you distribute EXP for the most part, you should just try to find the easiest way to beat the Chapter you're on, because FE games get easier as they go on. Splitting all of the kills "one less unit" would have gotten to others barely makes a change in their stats, and it makes the game quite a bit harder.
You should be making full use of every unit deployed in every chapter. Saying that you have to gimp yourself earlier in the game to make Isadora viable doesn't add points in her favor. It's like saying "if every unit but Nino is dead, then Nino will be your best unit".
That does bring up a good point, though. Isadora can be notably better if you're playing Ironman, since some of your best units may have gotten killed, which does free up deployment slots to possibly bring her.
Indeed, by the time she joins, it's already hard to justify deploying Marcus, let alone her.

That speed is her main positive for me, Paladin makes her good but in an Lance dominated game, sucking with Axes due and her lower bulk makes her the worst Paladin when trained but like you said she joins with pretty decent bases so takes less investment than Kent and Sain. She saved my ass in HHM where I grew to respect her a lot more, that play through was basically all Paladins and Staff bots.
Lance dominated? FE7 isn't lance dominated. It's pretty balanced actually, which is what makes Isadora's 3 weapon types so good.
Maybe "dominated" is a bit far. But there are still quite a few Lance users, especially mid-late game.
Besides, the worst Paladin doesn't say too much since Paladins are already so good.

Because of you I used isadora in a playthrough of all the pherean knights, A supported with harken, who got the boots to keep up and she owned. She even did a 9 damage crit to the dragon with regal blade XD.
I felt you decinely forgot to mention fine major impact a body ring has on isadora. With body ring she loses only one speed from killer lance, three speed from javelin, and she loses no speed from her silver sword, exactly enough con now!( I told you it was her signature weapon)

Yes! I've been waiting for the next one of these. I had a feeling you'd do Isadora ever since you said you wanted to prove she was good using the negative growths run but didn't end up getting too much out of her.
Just finished the vid and yeah, this all seems about right. I recently went through FE7 0% growths and Isadora was a midgame MVP and the only drawback was that she needed to carry a bunch of different weapons. but that was fine anyway since most units who are amazing combat wise can just stick to copies of their best 1 or 2 weapons anyway.
I like Isadora; and often if I deploy her, I'll grant her well-deserved "Happily Ever After" with Harken.

I love coming back to this video because I was so isadorapilled as a kid this is my own personal echo chamber

The reason I don't really use Isadora is because at that point of the game, I have Lyn mode promoted Sain, Promoted Kent, Pre-promoted Marcus, and a decent level Lowen. In addition, the next chapter is a desert map with Hawkeye so Isadora isn't fielded and will be easily benched for a really cool berserker.
In my first FE7 playthrough my Lyn mode Kent had died way early so I didn't use him in Eliwood mode. I also dropped Lowen since his stats sucked compared to Sain and Marcus.
Then by the time Isadora came in, Sain had like 8 skill as a Paladin so I ditched him for Isadora.
I should have seen this coming.

My first time I trained Kent thinking he'd be better than Sain just based on his personality (being more serious about battle) but then I gave Sain a go a bit later in and he carried my team
He even out-strengthed (is that a term?) Marcus before promoting.
But now I'm an educated person and use all the paladins (at least all the ones I have deployment slots left for)
I like pairing Lowen and Isadora together.

@@sophiamalcolm2119 The biggest problem i altways have with using all the paladins is that your second (or third if you did the lyn mode promo) knight crest comes so late, and the unpromoted cavs always just get kinda left behind
Honestly, I used Isadora mainly because, while I do think Paladins are overrated, they ALSO tend to be good(and I didn't use Marcus because, before FE8 opened my eyes to how good starting Paladins can be, I was wary of him), and also because she has a special sprite which actually looks kinda nice. :)

I benched her the first time I played FE7 because I was doing pretty well with Lowen and Sain. The time I used her was when I replayed again for HNM. I wanted to end the run with almost everyone married and after getting Lowen to A support Isadora arrived with a great timing to substitute him. I planned to bench her after A-support her with Harken but she pretty much won her spot in the army at that point. When paired with Harken while flanking enemies as a duo they where absolute monsters xD

This is actually a pretty nice explanation. I never thought much of Isadora, I found her useful in her join chapter but never found space to field her in the future chapters.

1 Thing that Isadora can do that is (almost unique) is killing the bishop in ch24 on turn 1, which helps you get the purge tome he drops. this is mostly useful on ranked runs, but its also helpful to shut down the siege tome.
Very fair analysis. In my HHM playthoughs I really like using her in the chapter she joins. Being deployed for free and being able to one round wyverns makes her very versatile.
There was just no way I was gonna use her while using Marcus, Kent, Sain, and Lowen.

After I lost 3 of my calviers to ursala, Isadora came to the rescue in later maps and patched the hole of missing units in my army. She really helped with getting units around thanks to rescue, and like you said, she could slap. I was very grateful go have her in reserve. Her, heath, and Sain patched the 3 unit loss.
So to sum it up, Isadora is underrated not because she's secretly a god, but because the most common criticisms of her are common pitfalls
So, I think an important negative that is being overlooked here is deployment slots vs alternatives you already have filling them.
Sure you haven't raised EVERY unit by the time you get her unless you've arena abused, but you've raised a fair bit, and it's highly unlikely that she's not already totally outclassed by that point.
I realize sometimes you might get RNG screwed but unless your luck was terrible, I don't see her finding a place in your team... Unless someone died and you continued, opting to replace them with her.
Everything gets worse if you went through Lyn mode and raised Kent or Sain
I like Isadora because of her consistency; I don't have to worry about her growths like other units. The best part is that there's no reason not to deploy her since it doesn't matter that she's not as good as your best combat units; she just has to be better than an alternative deployment out of around 10 or so which isn't a very high bar and she'll still put in a lot of good work.
I always benched her right away since she doesn't start off amazing in her chapter, but I always liked her character a lot. Seeing that she can actually be useful, I honestly wanna play the game again just to try her and some other different units out that I wouldn't have picked otherwise.
If I play Hector hard mode without Lyn mode someday, then I may consider putting Isadora in the group depending on my units. I used to think she sucks in my eyes when first starting on FE and watching Let's plays before Mangs, but after watching his FE blazing sword playthrough and listening to your advice on her, I may give Isadora a try sometime. I'll be honest; I'll still use Sain and Kent(I don't like Lowen) over her because slots aren't cheap in this game and I already have enough mounted units, but if lyn mode wasn't played, then she'll be on the list.
I used the hero crest she comes with in eliwood mode to promote my lowen (HE GOT LIKE 4 ALL STAT LEVEL UPS WTF WAS THAT LOWEN MAN HE BECAME BETTER THAN MARCUS) 😎

I think the only run I used Isadora in was when I forgot to get the knights crest in her chapter and didnt feel like replaying the whole chapter again.
My issue is that I often have both starter paladins trained as my main xp dumps from my lyn chapters which I do religiously on my playthroughs. Though when I first played these games as kid I would 20/20 entire parties at the arena.
Isadora doesn't just join at the end of the previous chapter; she's alluded to in the conversation if you visit one of the houses.
She actually appears on chapter 11 off EM if I recall. She's like "I'll protect your mom" or something like that to Eliwood.
Isadora is one of my Favorite Fire Emblem Units, and from the GBA Trilogy which is my favorite set of games (Those Animations!)
and I have an emotional attachment to her since in my first Playthrough of Blazing I promised to not reset if someone died and In Battle before Dawn Marcus, Lowen, and Rath all died. Sain died in Dread Isle. So I was left with Kent and Isadora as my Red and White Knights.
Is that 'recruit the like button' line new? I like it, keep that one lol.
What's sad is realizing that she comes halfway through the game with 2-3 pts in every stat lower than lv1 marcus who's at the start of the game except con/speed.. Marcus has +5 con over her while she has +5 spd over him. With really her best str being a dodge tank paladin later on with some decent supports with Lowen/Marcus that give her additional avoid and a support with Sain/Lowen that give extra attack. She does come at a time where she could make exclusive use of the body ring and seraph robe in her current chapter and the next chapter and certainly be used rather well.
I loved to use Isadora, she was my fastest unit in my first normal mode playthrough. I trained her and got insanely lucky with her speed level ups, and she has beautiful combat animations, what more could you ask for?

fun tidbit. always when isadora joins, to me eliwood closes his eyes like if isadora was a pain to him, even that he is thinking on his mother.
Isadora is the unit I deploy when I have an extra slot in the big maps. She's decent enough out of the box that it's easy to squeeze her in.
But in her defense, if you need a replacement Paladin if Lowen, Marcus, Kent, and/or Sain bites it.
You gotta be really shitty if Isadora is your last option for a Paladin.

Thank you Mekkkah. I really like Isadora, she is not the bulkiest of paladins but she is fast and if used will likely turn into a speed demon and may even be your #1 fastest unit. I remember some FE7 runs of mine there being bosses at the end game that only Isadora was fast enough to deal with and double. She is a paladin who can wield all three weapon types so having another paladin is always appreciated, she is I think not intended to use lances or axes look at her weapon ranks. Sword is the highest I believe this is by design, she is meant to be a speedy paladin that maybe doesn't have as much bulk and primarily wielding swords like the sword cavaliers of old. I also like her as a character and enjoy her supports with Harken and Lowen especially.
FE11 Jaigan or Wendell. Both are great mixed units, useful in different classes in different chapters, while both aren't particular special in their base classes.
You can switch weapons during enemy phase if you break one ;)
I used her a while back when I was trying to get all of the supports registered on my game. I liked her, and she turned out okay. Definitely turned out better than Marcus, and has consistently been my second best paladin after Sain. Marcus is good and all at first, but Omigod, his stat growths have been abysmal on all my playthroughs. Isadora and Sain were always my go-tos, though I prioritized Sain more than any other Paladin. I liked that she got high hp and speed, so she could dodge tank and physically tank hits, but her actual defense and resistance were usually kinda mediocre. If she got hit twice, I usually had to make her retreat to heal. Sain on the other hand usually got hilariously high attack, speed and defense, so I didn't have to worry as much. His skill growths were the only bad thing and I had to give him iron and silver weapons because anything else would make him miss like 50% of the hits. Still, as odd as they turned out, still better than Marcus. I couldn't use him at all once I hit mid game because no matter how many playthroughs I did, his growths were always so bad that even silver weapons barely hurt any enemies with moderate bulk. When a Marcus with a silver sword does less damage than a Sain with a Slim Sword despite being 5+ levels higher you know it's bad. Maybe other people had better luck with him, but I never did. I just use him to weaken enemy foes for my other weaker units until they get leveled up enough. Then he's benched, unless I feel like revisiting supports.

I tried to use Isadora after hearing you hype her up in your lets plays and I had a few problems with her. I know you covered her con but I think you sort of skimmed past its impact on her weapon choices. An iron axe drop her to 12 speed, a hand axe to 10, shes even slowed down by an iron lance (only by 2). Mounted is always good, and she is fast and strong enough to kill some things on players phase from far away, but you can't expose her. MIdgame you want to expose your frontliners to 3-4 hits and Isaodra high move gets her there and she can't take the hits. My biggest problem with her is that there just simply aren't enough deployment slots for her. By the time she joins youve got 3,4 horses, a dancer a healer a couple flyers and a couple mages. Deployment slots are so tight in FE7 I find you really only have space for 1 or 2 luxury units and Isadora just doesnt last into the lategame. I think if I ever do a 0% I will appreciate Isadora a lot more but for now I find her a burden.

I think she is a fine candidate for a body ring but you have to be very meticulous with managing what weapons she uses.
As for unit slots being tight , that is absolutely true and I find it hard to field a lot of units and like the video states , Isadora is not outstanding , she’s just good with some shining moments. I find it hard to use her after her joining chapter . She was very useful for me their tho but it’s hard for her to compete without a free unit slot

You often bring up rescue-dropping when discussing mounted units, and in the FE7 tier list you mentioned how many players don't rescue drop correctly. I often use rescue-dropping for getting slow units where they need to be and to protect weak units in a vulnerable position, so I gotta ask, are you alluding to some other reason to rescue-drop that I'm missing out on? Or is it just underuse of the previously mentioned uses that limits how players use rescue-dropping?
Those are the main uses of rescue dropping. By incorrectly I mean they either don't do it at all or they don't really plan where they are going to drop units.

I always benched her because of her 6 con, but I never played hard mode so I wouldn't know if she would be more clutch either. Nice gear for my other units though lmao.

In any event, Isadora is one of my favorite prepromotes in Blazing Blade. Part of the reason is because she's one of the few units I get who actually benefits from my Tactician's Bonus. Another is due to (surprise) her relationship and Supports with Harken, which is probably one of my favorite romantic stories in the series, and one of the few to actually make me want to cry.
I field Isadora mainly for her supports with Legault. I am a sucker for that support shit.
Isadora is a replacement unit, for if the player lost better units (or chose not to use them) earlier. Prime example really.
Also Dedue deserves a WAIFU video! Him and any unit in 3 Houses that gets a huge benefit from training a weakness :D
when I played Hector hard mode, I didnt use nor Sain, nor Kent, nor Lower, I only used Marcus, and feed most exp to Oswin, Hector(he steals better than Matthew), Lyn and Bartre, so basically any pre promote unit was a gift to me. Although got to admit, Marcus became a monster with his growths.
