Holy Knight Bernadetta was a level 30 unit of the Empire, so powerful and so wise she could use her Vengeance to influence the HP bars to OHKO everything… She had such a knowledge of the memes that with Rescue she could even keep the ones she cared about from dying. The SOYO side of the Meta is a pathway to many strategies some consider to be unnatural. She became so powerful… the only thing she was afraid of was losing her power, which eventually, of course, she did. Unfortunately, he taught Dark Bishop Caspar everything she knew, then Caspar killed her in her sleep. Ironic. She could save others from death, but not herself.

@@ninjakirby777 I mean I'm not anti Bernie it's just I don't think she's as good as Claude which is pretty much a compliment since I'd argue Claude is definitely one of the strongest units in the game and imo the strongest. Also she can become a Pegasus or falcon fairly easily but B or A rank axes with a bane is no easy task for wyvern. Plus she'll lack bowfaire until S bows and that eats a precious skill slot and so does pass.

Personally, I found the joke density in the editing to be a bit too high in contrast to Mekkah's very no-nonsense script. Maybe something to consider if you're editing more videos for him. Very clean visuals however, A+ on that front
Her personality seems very one note at first, but I think when you dig into it and look at the trauma in her past it kinda does seem like the kind of thing that might give her the PTSD and social awkwardness that might affect all of her social encounters until she's very comfortable with a person.
Dang, I knew people underrate damage output in this game because there's so many options to increase damage, but I didn't expect to see a 200+ damage crit from anyone but Dimitri, lol. Did not know Vengeance exists.
200+ damage via crit is relatively easy in 3H: you just need to have 67 damage pre crit. Dimitri is just bonkers because he hits over 300+ on a regular basis when he procs his crest.
@@l.n.3372 Yeah his crest proc isn't exactly a regular basis. It's 5% on combat arts only, and he's so strong it's rare you should be using them, unless you just want the Atrocity meme hits.
My evolution of this character went from just turning a blind eye from her, to not caring too much about her, to me actually enjoying and liking her character, to loving her so much that she basically became my mascot character on Twitter.

to me, Bernadetta is what happens when an extrovert is turned into an introvert. Her favorite activities involve gardening (the exotic flowers kind), painting landscapes; she's very talkative, and she's loud and energetic (you can tell by the amount of times she runs away and screams bloody murder)
I played Black Eagles on my first playthrough and Bernadetta was amazing! I had almost no knowledge of growths, but she was one of my best units. I also loved her support conversations! Yes, they got a bit repetitive, but I found it hilarious! I especially liked her interactions with Hubert (another favorite character, although it took time for him to grow on me).
Wow, so interesting, you really are discovering a new side of three houses to me with these last WAIFUs, love them. Also, the editing was superb, specially liked how Bernie reacted to the things you were saying, very cute!
Imagine most of what was said about vengeance Bernadetta but with like 25 more HP and a handful more strength to work with. He has a lot less utility over all since he doesn't get things like encloser or curved shot, and there's the whole disappearing act / only available on one route as well.

Ayyyyyy glad to see some Bernie love! I stayed as blind as possible when 3 houses first came out and picked Black Eagles purely because I was curious about Edelgard. I adore the Eagles- but Bernie was easily the biggest surprise for me. Vengeance and her insane Bow skills made her an MVP on multiple maps. Glad to hear more positive things about her!
I feel like Soren would make an excellent WAIFU, because there's so many misconceptions about him in both games. He's been both underrated (by yourself, no less!) in Path of Radiance, but also overrated by people who play the game slowly. Meanwhile, in Radiant Dawn, people are often told that he's a mediocre unit, but the reasons for this aren't super well-known to casual players who still just see him as a super cool sage. Give Ike's boyfriend a WAIFU!
sono un idiota because they thought it was funny that mages should be as slow as armor knights in both attack speed and movement, (or even slower somehow; looking at Rhys getting doubled by them at base), in a game where they actually gave enemy units a decent Res stat to especially shrug off magic attacks and nerfing the hell out of thunder magic for no reason.
I think it should also be noted that RD Soren doesn't have a staff rank initially, and when he does pick one up, it's an E. For comparison, Micaiah picks up a C automatically upon promoting, and Elincia shows up with an A. When you're a Radiant Dawn mage, I think it's safe to say you need more than combat to hold your own, and an E-rank upon promoting ain't gonna cut it.
Personally, I think he is way over rated in Path of Radiance, I would even go so far as to say he is the worst mage. The worst supports in the game(because they come so late), adapt procs too rarely in the early game, garbage weapon ranks, and there is no good way to keep him alive in the early game. I know he can be really good for some LTC strategies, but for the vast majority of players, he is a late game mage in a game where mages are weak in the late game. Ilyana can abuse shade to get chip damage, Tormod has built-in boots, Cailill can use all siege tomes(effectively letting you train no mage and still get to abuse them on the few maps they are great), and Bastian can..... well maybe Soren isn't the worst. I actually forget Bastian even existed. I feel like a lot of people want to like Soren so they point to his LTC/speedrun strategies while ignoring that those are irrelevant to 99.99% of players.
There's something amazing about her high pitched freakout at enemies like a scared child right before she deletes them from existance with some ungodly crit.
Holy moly. The production value only keeps going up! Love it. My view on Bernie is similar to yours, I thought she was pretty useless at first so it's cool to learn there is a lot more to her usage. I think it's interesting when Maddening was first released, a lot of discussion was still 'yeah maddening is the hardest difficulty but it's kind of bs so this discussion is still for hard', but as time has gone on most discussion has slowly moved to Maddening and that makes units like Bernadetta relatively better than more of the cast than she was before
For me, Bernadetta was one of my best all game. Her most badass moment was during the final battle, where solo fought one of the giant robots while Byleth and Edelgard took on the final boss.
I think Petra might make for an interesting video because despite her appearing to be the myrmidon archetype, her favored skills in flying and axes actually point her more towards the brigand->wyvern knight tree, while still having really good speed base and growth

Depends on whether or not we're consulting the JoJo fanbase... @Shibe King His Personal Skill grants +4 Defense when choosing to Wait. You also get a Leather Shield and a Defense-boosting Battalion before Ch 2, so Dedue can be quite the sturdy tank, even on 0% Growths funnily enough.
“Revelation was aight” was probably the thing I found most funny in this entire video and it was only on screen for about 1/4 of a second. God that playthrough was such an incredibly lovely shitshow.

Take this pitiful shut-in, get her beat within an inch of her life, then send her up against the most dangerous things on the map. Really puts that "Oh no..." in a new context.
They're about the same really; they'll both be one shotting things easily, ironically enough it can be harder to get Dedue to low HP just because of his good defense and personal skill (this still isn't too hard to deal with; maddening enemies are still really strong, but it's still worth stating). The main issue is that Dedue is route specific; so they only really match up on one route, and even then there's no reason to avoid using them both as the powerhouses that they are. Personally I like doing ironman runs of CF (since there's no hunting by daybreak) so Bernie is the only vengeance user I get.
@@LadyViolet1 The main thing Dedue has over Bernie other than sheer stats is his lack of a crest. It's really easy to manage his HP if you give him something like the Aegis Shield from Felix' paralogue or a relic lance. He'll be tanky enough for enemies and still take damage after combat from his equipment. Bernadetta still keeps the availability in multiple routes and things like the Devil sword exists but overall Dedue makes Vengeance a lot easier to use.
@@g.n.s.153 (To start with I haven't played in months so this must be a pretty old thread so I don't really remember what I said in the replies here, so sorry if I repeat myself but here are my thoughts given what you've said) I don't think not having a crest is that big of a deal there are the aforementioned devil weapons, but also you really only need to get Bernadetta hit once and you're fine, archers are especially good for that given they'll do a lot of damage and poison strike will often bring her close to if not exactly 1HP given the 20% slice it takes off. However most any enemy will do since the enemies on maddening are so beefy, and as long as you do the math that's not a problem for her most of the time. Though of note is that I give any HP stat boosters I have to my vengeance users anyway since they use them better than other characters (damage from vengeance along with the better survivability) so my view on Bernadetta's survivability is based on that.
@@LadyViolet1 Yeah this video got re-recommended to me after all this time and I wanted to see where was the discussion was at. Even in a single-player game without updates, the meta can change over time. The Devil Weapons are just too much of a hassle for me, they require Argarthium and since there's only the Sword and Axe version available she'll have to go through her banes to even use them in the first place. Even with D rank it's just not worth it most of the time. Early you can use poison strike to your advantage but later the best way to set up is the Blessing Gambit forcing Miracle on her and if she's not flying she has access to Guard adjutants as well. I just prefer Dedue purely from the Vengeance standpoint. He streamlines the process a lot and can be easily healed to tank another turn if need be. Bernie beats him in a lot of other things though and that would definitely matters if I was to compare those 2 in general.
Wow, I didn't even know vengeance was in this game. I specced Bernadetta into exclusively armor classes for the funnies and persecution complex safety.
I love Bernadetta's design, and her character is a bit deeper than what you might assume. I relate to her social struggles and family issues, and she's a pretty darn good unit. I just wish more people gave her a fair shot, but I get why people would be miffed at all her C supports being basically the same
but she isn't even a one note character. in her supports (not sure which ones) she talks about the abuse from her father, count varley, and that's the reason for her reclusive nature. she's honestly one of my favourite characters storywise. god i love this game LMAO

It's really depressing because Marianne has one of the best character arcs in the game while Bernedetta just crash and burns. Holy fuck my entire opinion on Bernie just got flipped flopped by a reddit post.
Very helpful video. I'm definitely gonna try using Vengeance strats my next playthrough. Cyan's editing really gave this video a lot of additional charm and energy. Props to both of you!
If you want a more unique Bernadetta support, I suggest looking at her support with Alois. It’s literally the only one (as far as I can tell) where she DOESN’T run or scream or ANYTHING. The support explains why later on, but Alois is also hella confused at first. I’d also suggest her support with Yuri, since her screaming and running away in that one is... highly ironic, as you’ll finally see in their A support. Also, it’s probably one of the most adorable student pairings in the game.
Bernadetta i assumed would fit a trope i tend to really hate, annoyingly shy and anxious characters. I was pleasantly surprised by how real she felt and she quickly became one of my favorite characters in the game. And her performance as a unit certainly didnt hurt my opinion of her either.
I'd like to see more videos about Maddening 3H characters in general. I remember when i got into FE around 2013 or so, I heard a lot of "Lunatic (Reverse) FE12 is poorly designed and bad, don't play it", but now people have figured it out and can do a lot of meme shit while playing it. What I'm saying is, I hope Maddening follows suit, which it seems to be lately. Lots of interesting strategies and ideas seem to be showing up to make playing it less of a slog
Honestly, I didn't realize people had a low opinion of Bernadetta's performance before seeing this video today; in my first run of the game, she was an absolute powerhouse who carried me as much as Edelgard did lol

I went the bow knight+ vengeance+ vantage route on my first playthrough of 3H and just fell in love with Bernie destroying things on my turn, then canto into a forest with a lance or close counter, and slaughtering everything that approached.
Dude, this is one of the best character focused video's I've seen yet on TH-cam. See, now THIS is the sort of in depth content I love for a game, stuff tailor made for the players with some actual skill. Not all this other garbage where 90% of TH-camrs don't really know what they're talking about, recommend poor builds, & just give amateur advice in general. And then when you watch them play live it's grossly apparent why they are so clueless as they proceed to show no decent or viable strategy wits at all. I can't stand that about TH-cam if I'm being honest. But channels like this stand out as the types that EVERYONE should be watching, instead of the ones who are nothing but amateurs trying to pass off misinformation to the 10th degree. Bravo good sir, bravo. You are one of the few.
She's a precious cinnamon roll, but she needs no protection cause she could annihilate anybody during one of her panic attacks. Which btw, I love how that's actually a recurring plot point during her supports.

Even without vengeance she ended up being one of the more useful units on my SS Maddening run. I'm going to remember this when I play CF. Also yeah the trend of tropey, one-note characters totally starts with Awakening and Fates and there were none of those in any other game in the series before then...ever./s
@@CoyoteXLI it's not evem that imo. To me it's the combination of Crit quotes, level up quotes and simillar things. Those tend to reflect the character "gimmick", wich as a result is constantly hammered on the player. A good example is Cordelia. Most of the time she explicitly gets over Chrom by the time she marries someone else, but her random quotes don't get updated, so many people still thinks that she never get over it, because they constantly see her fangirling over Chrom. The problem whit many "modern character" is not that they have less depth compared to other characters. Is that their depth require you to dig a bit and their more tropey aspect are put front and center in general gameplay, wich lead people to not want to dig deeper(and make them already biased if they do dig)
@@noukan42 This whole comment fits characters like Leonie to a tee. In her supports she's a lot more than just the Jeralt fangirl people portray her as, but because 99% of her dialogue in the main story and in the monastery mentions Jeralt in some capacity, many people write her off as such and as her being rather two dimensional. Granted, her constantly mentioning Jeralt is a legit problem, but people saying she's "one note" without even reading a single support shouldn't say that without properly looking into a character beforehand.
I already thought that Bernadetta was the best Black Eagles character and I didn't even know about vengance. I just had her focus solely on her archery and she was consistantly MVPing every single map. even before reaching the timeskip she was enough levels ahead of the rest of my characters (including Byleth) that there just wasn't any hope of anyone catching up with her because she could just one shot everything that she attacked or that attacked her (which led to her getting even more level ups that others were missing out on which made her more powerful in a cycle that just left the others with no chance)
Nah bro you underestimated her kit, she is definitely something edit I actually had to hold myself back from overusing her because she was killing so many units and leveling up so constantly, I had to bench her awhile to let other people catch up, and even then I was trying to get her supports so she was still gradually leveling up anyway
I love the game, and I had no idea people had issues with Bernadetta! She's a pain socially, but as an archer, she's a one hit wonder! I keep her back out of trouble, and when I need an assassin, I send her in! Not sure what I'm missing, but she's definitely on my A team.
Hey Mekkah, really enjoyed the WAIFU as usual! When I finally get around to playing the Church Route, I think I will try Bernadetta out in a Vengeance build, either as Paladin or Falcoknight. Also, definitely a fan of the intro music chosen, and I'll admit I've never thought about running a Vantage build with her! One thing I was hoping to hear, though, was about the magical side of the equation. For a physically-oriented unit, Bernie gets some surprisingly good spells (Thoron, Fimbulvetr, Physic, and Rescue). Her personal magic growth of 20 is, admittedly, quite poor, so she'll have to capitalize off of class bases and other boost sources (like battalions, equippables, and her personal skill which works for spells too). On the flip side, her personal speed growth of 50 is ahead of most other magically-oriented units (save for Lysithea and Manuela), while her still-decent strength helps offset the weight of some of her heavier spells, giving her a better chance to double. She's not weak in either magic category, and she can capitalize somewhat off her strength in lances, and budding talent in Riding, to go Dark Knight or Holy Knight. And with the DLC out, Valkyrie and Dark Flier are both open to her as well. It's pretty fun having a high-mobility magical unit with Pass, particularly when aided by a range-boosting staff like Caduceus or Thyrsus. I've noticed these videos tend to focus on the best possible build(s) of a given unit, such that excluding magical girl Bernie is understandable. Still, I think the things she has going for her outside of physical-oriented builds are just another part of what make her an interesting fire emblem unit to analyze.
Blessing Gambit (Not a viable early game option), or Guard Adjutants (Viable the whole game) you can put her into range of an enemy that would likely 2 hit and kill her on their phase and she will live on 1Hp due to the guard. This makes putting her into Vengeance range more manageable. Alternatively using Devil weapons are a more unreliable choice but safer if you think she might get one hit or have multiple enemies attacker her so the guard doesn't work. Hp levels also help as it activates Persecution Complex. If you want to focus on bows (Concerning you aren't playing Crimson Flower) you can do the Leonie/Linhardt paralogue to get the inexhaustible, a blessed, brave weapon connected to the Crest of Indech (Bernie's) but this comes at the cost of healing her which may deactivate Persecution Complex (Although Trading it to someone after use can stop this as it heals the user at the start of the players turn, but this can be impractical). Another way of dealing great bow damage is Hunters Volley if you want to go sniper, it's a reliable endgame class but she can't use rescue and Vengeance isn't as reliable because lack of canto and lancefair (although it isn't gonna just drop off completely, I used sniper Bernie and still destroyed with Vengeance). To wrap it up just gonna say get Darting Blow (Pegasus Knight), and Death Blow (Brigand) as they can make her damage and attack speed much more reliable. Putting her into Falcon knight also is great (my friend recommended this class, he used it in a Silver Snow no recruit run and she was amazing) but it may be hard to achieve due to her bane in swords and her neutral in Flying, but in turn she gets extra avoid and lancefair + flying with a bow is super nice.
A character that I haven't seen talked about enough is Felix. He is usually overshadowed by Dimitri, and the game encourages sword use for him rather than gauntlets. Felix becomes absolutely insane with gauntlets. His speed is high enough to quad enemies, and avoid everything, especially if you use brawl avoid +20. His strength is able to mitigate the weight of both his shield and the low weight of the gauntlets, and his crest activates a ton when it has 4 chances to. Most speed heavy units in three houses have a bit less strength then other units (such as Manuela and Ingrid), but Felix doesn't have that problem. On top of all that, brawling units don't have to worry about any breaker abilities, so hit rates will remain consistently low regardless of the weapon the enemy has. Before dlc, felix was the fastest male unit in the game, and therefore the fastest war master/grappler. Honestly, Balthus's title of the King of Grappling really belongs to Mr. Tsundere.
What is there to say? His movement kinda sucks at first so it's good to give him the paragon ring to make up for him seeing less combat, but he basically murders everything. It's fun, but its not interesting enough for a WAIFU video.
Bernie was a late-game monster on BE playthrough. 7 attack range using deadeye, on an 8 move horse is nuts (she outranges meteor/ragnarok wielding gremories). Hit+20 ability and accuracy ring also made max range snipes reliable. Add a killer bow for crits or brave bow for double tap potential. She was basically an anti-mage/flyer deathmachine. And then when someone finally got up close to her, she could still beat them up w/vengeance or lock them in place with encloser. Gotta love Bernie
great video Mekkah. I like that in her epilogue with Byleth, she becomes known as the Bear of Varley because she takes a 180 in personality and becomes a fierce and feared fighter.
I remember the first time I played Three Houses I, for some reason, didn't realize that Bernadetta was an archer and made her a Pegasus Knight instead.
Also, making Bernie an Assassin is very helpful as well. Having a an extra lockpick user can always come in handy, and her amazing DeX + Speed make Bernie an amazing dodge tank. Of course she gets outclassed by Petra and Felix, but I personally don't use Petra at all and have been falling off Felix. Free Bow rank and only needing do rank up swords is easy.

I use Bernie as a Bow Cav, tbh she’s my 3rd strongest unit. If I were to choose 1 unit that I was disappointed by, it’d be Dorothea... she misses kills by 2-5 damage and its... not great
This video was really edited and written well. The onscreen jokes are really funny and made me laugh audibly lots of times. The man voicing Mekkah also made lots of good points and I had to rethink how I viewed Bernie as a combat unit. On the other hand I think the onscreen text were often not there for long enough. Her personality seems very one note at first, but I think when you dig into it and look at the trauma in her past it kinda does seem like the kind of thing that might give her the PTSD and social awkwardness that might affect all of her social encounters until she's very comfortable with a person.
Dang, I knew people underrate damage output in this game because there's so many options to increase damage, but I didn't expect to see a 200+ damage crit from anyone but Dimitri, lol.

200+ damage via crit is relatively easy in 3H: you just need to have 67 damage pre crit. Dimitri is just bonkers because he hits over 300+ on a regular basis when he procs his crest.

My evolution of this character went from just turning a blind eye from her, to not caring too much about her, to me actually enjoying and liking her character, to loving her so much that she basically became my mascot character on Twitter.

Yeah, when I realized I was listening to Iron Blue Intention, I was super surprised.
I played Black Eagles on my first playthrough and Bernadetta was amazing! I had almost no knowledge of growths, but she was one of my best units. I also loved her support conversations! Yes, they got a bit repetitive, but I found it hilarious! I especially liked her interactions with Hubert (another favorite character, although it took time for him to grow on me).
Wow, so interesting, you really are discovering a new side of three houses to me with these last WAIFUs, love them.
Also, the editing was superb, specially liked how Bernie reacted to the things you were saying, very cute!

He has a lot less utility over all since he doesn't get things like encloser or curved shot, and there's the whole disappearing act / only available on one route as well.
To be fair, dedue supports a more defensive build, everyone hates cyril, but at least it's being brought to light

Ayyyyyy glad to see some Bernie love! I stayed as blind as possible when 3 houses first came out and picked Black Eagles purely because I was curious about Edelgard. I adore the Eagles- but Bernie was easily the biggest surprise for me. Vengeance and her insane Bow skills made her an MVP on multiple maps. Glad to hear more positive things about her!
I feel like Soren would make an excellent WAIFU, because there's so many misconceptions about him in both games. He's been both underrated (by yourself, no less!) in Path of Radiance, but also overrated by people who play the game slowly. Meanwhile, in Radiant Dawn, people are often told that he's a mediocre unit, but the reasons for this aren't super well-known to casual players who still just see him as a super cool sage. Give Ike's boyfriend a WAIFU!

sono un idiota because they thought it was funny that mages should be as slow as armor knights in both attack speed and movement, (or even slower somehow; looking at Rhys getting doubled by them at base), in a game where they actually gave enemy units a decent Res stat to especially shrug off magic attacks and nerfing the hell out of thunder magic for no reason.
I think it should also be noted that RD Soren doesn't have a staff rank initially, and when he does pick one up, it's an E. For comparison, Micaiah picks up a C automatically upon promoting, and Elincia shows up with an A. When you're a Radiant Dawn mage, I think it's safe to say you need more than combat to hold your own, and an E-rank upon promoting ain't gonna cut it.
His speed cap suck ass in FE10, and he nearly gets OHKO from ballista in that one chapter in part 3 on hard mode
Personally, I think he is way over rated in Path of Radiance, I would even go so far as to say he is the worst mage. The worst supports in the game(because they come so late), adapt procs too rarely in the early game, garbage weapon ranks, and there is no good way to keep him alive in the early game.
I know he can be really good for some LTC strategies, but for the vast majority of players, he is a late game mage in a game where mages are weak in the late game. Ilyana can abuse shade to get chip damage, Tormod has built-in boots, Cailill can use all siege tomes(effectively letting you train no mage and still get to abuse them on the few maps they are great), and Bastian can..... well maybe Soren isn't the worst. I actually forget Bastian even existed.
I feel like a lot of people want to like Soren so they point to his LTC/speedrun strategies while ignoring that those are irrelevant to 99.99% of players.
There's something amazing about her high pitched freakout at enemies like a scared child right before she deletes them from existance with some ungodly crit.

Holy moly. The production value only keeps going up! Love it. My view on Bernie is similar to yours, I thought she was pretty useless at first so it's cool to learn there is a lot more to her usage. I think it's interesting when Maddening was first released, a lot of discussion was still 'yeah maddening is the hardest difficulty but it's kind of bs so this discussion is still for hard', but as time has gone on most discussion has slowly moved to Maddening and that makes units like Bernadetta relatively better than more of the cast than she was before

For me, Bernadetta was one of my best all game. Her most badass moment was during the final battle, where solo fought one of the giant robots while Byleth and Edelgard took on the final boss.
I think Petra might make for an interesting video because despite her appearing to be the myrmidon archetype, her favored skills in flying and axes actually point her more towards the brigand->wyvern knight tree, while still having really good speed base and growth

@@shibeking1809 yeah i tried that when fighting him in vw. Turns out he has enough hp to survive even two hits and kills any magic unit with a ranged weapon and if using a bataillioneffect or a defense adjutant counts as redeeming factors for bernie than using a holy water redeems dedue

@Shibe King His Personal Skill grants +4 Defense when choosing to Wait. You also get a Leather Shield and a Defense-boosting Battalion before Ch 2, so Dedue can be quite the sturdy tank, even on 0% Growths funnily enough.

They're about the same really; they'll both be one shotting things easily, ironically enough it can be harder to get Dedue to low HP just because of his good defense and personal skill (this still isn't too hard to deal with; maddening enemies are still really strong, but it's still worth stating). The main issue is that Dedue is route specific; so they only really match up on one route, and even then there's no reason to avoid using them both as the powerhouses that they are. Personally I like doing ironman runs of CF (since there's no hunting by daybreak) so Bernie is the only vengeance user I get.
@@LadyViolet1 The main thing Dedue has over Bernie other than sheer stats is his lack of a crest. It's really easy to manage his HP if you give him something like the Aegis Shield from Felix' paralogue or a relic lance. He'll be tanky enough for enemies and still take damage after combat from his equipment.
Bernadetta still keeps the availability in multiple routes and things like the Devil sword exists but overall Dedue makes Vengeance a lot easier to use.
@@g.n.s.153 (To start with I haven't played in months so this must be a pretty old thread so I don't really remember what I said in the replies here, so sorry if I repeat myself but here are my thoughts given what you've said) I don't think not having a crest is that big of a deal there are the aforementioned devil weapons, but also you really only need to get Bernadetta hit once and you're fine, archers are especially good for that given they'll do a lot of damage and poison strike will often bring her close to if not exactly 1HP given the 20% slice it takes off. However most any enemy will do since the enemies on maddening are so beefy, and as long as you do the math that's not a problem for her most of the time. Though of note is that I give any HP stat boosters I have to my vengeance users anyway since they use them better than other characters (damage from vengeance along with the better survivability) so my view on Bernadetta's survivability is based on that.
@@LadyViolet1 Yeah this video got re-recommended to me after all this time and I wanted to see where was the discussion was at. Even in a single-player game without updates, the meta can change over time.
The Devil Weapons are just too much of a hassle for me, they require Argarthium and since there's only the Sword and Axe version available she'll have to go through her banes to even use them in the first place. Even with D rank it's just not worth it most of the time.
Early you can use poison strike to your advantage but later the best way to set up is the Blessing Gambit forcing Miracle on her and if she's not flying she has access to Guard adjutants as well.
I just prefer Dedue purely from the Vengeance standpoint. He streamlines the process a lot and can be easily healed to tank another turn if need be. Bernie beats him in a lot of other things though and that would definitely matters if I was to compare those 2 in general.

I love Bernadetta's design, and her character is a bit deeper than what you might assume. I relate to her social struggles and family issues, and she's a pretty darn good unit. I just wish more people gave her a fair shot, but I get why people would be miffed at all her C supports being basically the same

If you want a more unique Bernadetta support, I suggest looking at her support with Alois. It’s literally the only one (as far as I can tell) where she DOESN’T run or scream or ANYTHING. The support explains why later on, but Alois is also hella confused at first.
I’d also suggest her support with Yuri, since her screaming and running away in that one is... highly ironic, as you’ll finally see in their A support. Also, it’s probably one of the most adorable student pairings in the game.
Bernadetta i assumed would fit a trope i tend to really hate, annoyingly shy and anxious characters. I was pleasantly surprised by how real she felt and she quickly became one of my favorite characters in the game. And her performance as a unit certainly didnt hurt my opinion of her either.
I'd like to see more videos about Maddening 3H characters in general. I remember when i got into FE around 2013 or so, I heard a lot of "Lunatic (Reverse) FE12 is poorly designed and bad, don't play it", but now people have figured it out and can do a lot of meme shit while playing it. What I'm saying is, I hope Maddening follows suit, which it seems to be lately. Lots of interesting strategies and ideas seem to be showing up to make playing it less of a slog

I went the bow knight+ vengeance+ vantage route on my first playthrough of 3H and just fell in love with Bernie destroying things on my turn, then canto into a forest with a lance or close counter, and slaughtering everything that approached.

See, now THIS is the sort of in depth content I love for a game, stuff tailor made for the players with some actual skill. Not all this other garbage where 90% of TH-camrs don't really know what they're talking about, recommend poor builds, & just give amateur advice in general.
And then when you watch them play live it's grossly apparent why they are so clueless as they proceed to show no decent or viable strategy wits at all. I can't stand that about TH-cam if I'm being honest. I think it's more the characters started getting way more lines than before at that time but didn't do as much as some earlier characters with them.
@@CoyoteXLI it's not evem that imo. To me it's the combination of Crit quotes, level up quotes and simillar things. Those tend to reflect the character "gimmick", wich as a result is constantly hammered on the player.
A good example is Cordelia. Most of the time she explicitly gets over Chrom by the time she marries someone else, but her random quotes don't get updated, so many people still thinks that she never get over it, because they constantly see her fangirling over Chrom.
The problem whit many "modern character" is not that they have less depth compared to other characters. Is that their depth require you to dig a bit and their more tropey aspect are put front and center in general gameplay, wich lead people to not want to dig deeper(and make them already biased if they do dig)

@@noukan42 This whole comment fits characters like Leonie to a tee. In her supports she's a lot more than just the Jeralt fangirl people portray her as, but because 99% of her dialogue in the main story and in the monastery mentions Jeralt in some capacity, many people write her off as such and as her being rather two dimensional.
Granted, her constantly mentioning Jeralt is a legit problem, but people saying she's "one note" without even reading a single support shouldn't say that without properly looking into a character beforehand.
As much as I like him, Sain sadly is one. Sylvain however, is a nice upgrade to the archetype.
I already thought that Bernadetta was the best Black Eagles character and I didn't even know about vengance. I just had her focus solely on her archery and she was consistantly MVPing every single map. even before reaching the timeskip she was enough levels ahead of the rest of my characters (including Byleth) that there just wasn't any hope of anyone catching up with her because she could just one shot everything that she attacked or that attacked her (which led to her getting even more level ups that others were missing out on which made her more powerful in a cycle that just left the others with no chance)

I actually had to hold myself back from overusing her because she was killing so many units and leveling up so constantly, I had to bench her awhile to let other people catch up, and even then I was trying to get her supports so she was still gradually leveling up anyway

I love the game, and I had no idea people had issues with Bernadetta! She's a pain socially, but as an archer, she's a one hit wonder! I keep her back out of trouble, and when I need an assassin, I send her in! Not sure what I'm missing, but she's definitely on my A team.

How to set up a proper Vantage build: don't fucking die
Hey Mekkah, really enjoyed the WAIFU as usual! When I finally get around to playing the Church Route, I think I will try Bernadetta out in a Vengeance build, either as Paladin or Falcoknight. Also, definitely a fan of the intro music chosen, and I'll admit I've never thought about running a Vantage build with her!
One thing I was hoping to hear, though, was about the magical side of the equation. For a physically-oriented unit, Bernie gets some surprisingly good spells (Thoron, Fimbulvetr, Physic, and Rescue). Her personal magic growth of 20 is, admittedly, quite poor, so she'll have to capitalize off of class bases and other boost sources (like battalions, equippables, and her personal skill which works for spells too). On the flip side, her personal speed growth of 50 is ahead of most other magically-oriented units (save for Lysithea and Manuela), while her still-decent strength helps offset the weight of some of her heavier spells, giving her a better chance to double. She's not weak in either magic category, and she can capitalize somewhat off her strength in lances, and budding talent in Riding, to go Dark Knight or Holy Knight. And with the DLC out, Valkyrie and Dark Flier are both open to her as well. It's pretty fun having a high-mobility magical unit with Pass, particularly when aided by a range-boosting staff like Caduceus or Thyrsus.
I've noticed these videos tend to focus on the best possible build(s) of a given unit, such that excluding magical girl Bernie is understandable. Still, I think the things she has going for her outside of physical-oriented builds are just another part of what make her an interesting fire emblem unit to analyze.

Blessing Gambit (Not a viable early game option), or Guard Adjutants (Viable the whole game) you can put her into range of an enemy that would likely 2 hit and kill her on their phase and she will live on 1Hp due to the guard. This makes putting her into Vengeance range more manageable. Alternatively using Devil weapons are a more unreliable choice but safer if you think she might get one hit or have multiple enemies attacker her so the guard doesn't work. Hp levels also help as it activates Persecution Complex.
If you want to focus on bows (Concerning you aren't playing Crimson Flower) you can do the Leonie/Linhardt paralogue to get the inexhaustible, a blessed, brave weapon connected to the Crest of Indech (Bernie's) but this comes at the cost of healing her which may deactivate Persecution Complex (Although Trading it to someone after use can stop this as it heals the user at the start of the players turn, but this can be impractical). Another way of dealing great bow damage is Hunters Volley if you want to go sniper, it's a reliable endgame class but she can't use rescue and Vengeance isn't as reliable because lack of canto and lancefair (although it isn't gonna just drop off completely, I used sniper Bernie and still destroyed with Vengeance).
To wrap it up just gonna say get Darting Blow (Pegasus Knight), and Death Blow (Brigand) as they can make her damage and attack speed much more reliable. Putting her into Falcon knight also is great (my friend recommended this class, he used it in a Silver Snow no recruit run and she was amazing) but it may be hard to achieve due to her bane in swords and her neutral in Flying, but in turn she gets extra avoid and lancefair + flying with a bow is super nice.
Please do Ingrid next, purely so we can have a Fire Emblem video that pronounces her name correctly!

A character that I haven't seen talked about enough is Felix. He is usually overshadowed by Dimitri, and the game encourages sword use for him rather than gauntlets. Felix becomes absolutely insane with gauntlets. His speed is high enough to quad enemies, and avoid everything, especially if you use brawl avoid +20. His strength is able to mitigate the weight of both his shield and the low weight of the gauntlets, and his crest activates a ton when it has 4 chances to. Most speed heavy units in three houses have a bit less strength then other units (such as Manuela and Ingrid), but Felix doesn't have that problem. On top of all that, brawling units don't have to worry about any breaker abilities, so hit rates will remain consistently low regardless of the weapon the enemy has. Before dlc, felix was the fastest male unit in the game, and therefore the fastest war master/grappler. Honestly, Balthus's title of the King of Grappling really belongs to Mr. Tsundere.

Bernie was a late-game monster on BE playthrough. 7 attack range using deadeye, on an 8 move horse is nuts (she outranges meteor/ragnarok wielding gremories). great video Mekkah. I like that in her epilogue with Byleth, she becomes known as the Bear of Varley because she takes a 180 in personality and becomes a fierce and feared fighter.

I remember the first time I played Three Houses I, for some reason, didn't realize that Bernadetta was an archer and made her a Pegasus Knight instead.
Even if she's one note she's charming enough to be one of my favorites
Also, making Bernie an Assassin is very helpful as well. Having a an extra lockpick user can always come in handy, and her amazing DeX + Speed make Bernie an amazing dodge tank. Of course she gets outclassed by Petra and Felix, but I personally don't use Petra at all and have been falling off Felix. Free Bow rank and only needing do rank up swords is easy.

I use Bernie as a Bow Cav, tbh she’s my 3rd strongest unit. If I were to choose 1 unit that I was disappointed by, it’d be Dorothea... she misses kills by 2-5 damage and its... not great
This video was really edited and written well. The onscreen jokes are really funny and made me laugh audibly lots of times. The man voicing Mekkah also made lots of good points and I had to rethink how I viewed Bernie as a combat unit. On the other hand I think the onscreen text were often not there for long enough. Case in point 16:49, where the last bullet point is really difficult to read without pausing
