This game would honestly be so different to play efficiently without Lysithea it's actually kind of absurd. When I saw Warp was Mag/4 my first time playing in Black Eagles (with Linhardt using it) I thought for a moment IS finally pulled off a balanced iteration of Warp. Boy was I wrong.
Lord Wallace Yep. Lysithea is the reason I would almost consider maddening easy. Honestly I think she would be a 5 star unit for the same reason Mangs and Mekkah gave Lena a 5 star rating in Shadow Dragon. She just breaks the game along with stride, a dancer and easy access to wyvern/pegasus classes.
Along with the fact that the Warp range is dependent on Magic, Lysithea has the most range with the warp skill in comparison to the other mages who learn it.
I only just realize how her being the glass canon archetype mirrors her character in how she does a lot of work but is going to die a lot faster than everyone else...
@@Ed-1749 even if it doesn't amount to much on one map, it eventually piles up you can also feed the fodder to your least powerful units if your good ones only get 1xp
I actually did that in my first playthrough, for some reason I thought the weapons were locked to their crest owners just like the sword of the creator is to Byleth, it blew my fucking mind when I realized that I could use thunderbrand with other people than Catherine.
I realizes it could be done since I forst didn t pay attention to crest and gave it to ignatz.but he has bows and byleth goes into the fray anyway so she got it
I had a dancer Lysithea with all the sword avoid skills, several strength boosters so she didn't get weighed down for additional avoid, and gave her an avoid battalion. She murdered everything while never getting hit. I did this a 2nd time on NG+ where she had flying maxed out for even more avoid and she was literally unhittable except by a few enemies who even then weren't likely to land a hit.
@@SwanEdward I pretty much soloed the final battle of AM with Evasion build on Lysithea... The amount of Evasion you can get in this game is ridiculous.
imo thats the best way to play her. final class dancer or assassin and keep giving building/fixing levin swords for her. avoid tank while double hitting (and killing) basically everything
I would like to point out that the Gremory movement can be helped by equipping the March ring. She can equip it before moving then equip the Thyrsus to attack so she basically has 6 move that way.
@@noblewarriorgaming5565 Still though, I actually agree with the original statement. The March Ring, just like Thyrsus, can and *should* be traded around. If you need your Gremory to move one more space, giving her the March Ring is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
Lorenz is the only other character outside of damage takers who can wield the damn thing. And Lysithea does the job so much better. Only reason he'd have it is if you recruited him but not Lysithea in BL or BE

Alright, then crest wise, only Lorenz can actually really use the second effect, but unlike Lysithea he doesn't need the range. At the end of yhe day, Mekkah said it best. Anyone can use the range. And tbh, Lorenz is the only crest user who can benefit from the second effect, because you're an idiot if you rely on it keeping Lysithea alive, and no one else can take advantage of this bonus.

@Fanjanhong * the flier mobility plus Thyrsus or dark tome range+1 practically makes lysithea impossible for the enemy to reach. Dark knight can do something similar, but trading 5 damage for flier mobility seems like a waste, since there are many maps with a bunch of terrain, or at least some terrain obstacles, which is bad for mounted mobility but amazing for flier mobility.

Tip: you can certify Lysithea as an Armored Knight as early as lv 10. The requirement is C in Axes and D in Heavy Armor, but you can get ~65% probability with D+ in axes. While it does require you to sacrifice a few tutoring sessions training Lysithea's weaknesses, it causes her Def to raise to the class floor of 12 (from ~4) and her HP to raise to the class floor of 30 (from ~24). In my current BL run, Lysithea hilariously became the tankiest unit on my team apart from Dimitri and Dedue. Of course other squishy units can also certify for Armored Knight, but Lysithea benefits from it the most, due to 1) her extremely low Def growth, and 2) her ability Mastermind which makes up for the extra tutoring sessions.
I actually recommend mastering Mercenary after Mage since you will have time before promotion since she learns so fast just to get Vantage. It helps her enemy phase A LOT. Especially if you have Nosferatu attached when you go back to a magic class, she becomes VERY hard to kill. It worked incredibly well for me and helped it helps SPD growth anyway so she gets doubled less. Levin Sword + is also 3 range so that helps as well.
@@DynaDere before Trickster, I legit thought Assassin was a better class for her before Gremory/Dark Knight since Warlock kinda sucks for her. She legit hits harder with the magic sword lmao. Any route where you can't get her Thyrsus especially means that being a fast dodgy magic sword girl that one shots you is a legit route for her before her Master Class.
@@thatonecanto because there are some massive problems with it. For starters Lysidea’s often gonna be one hit ko. This is fine on its own thanks to guard adjutants or blessing but you are gonna wanna have those on after vantage too since lysidea is gonna want protection from gambits and lysidea’s best support gambit is easily blessing due to it usually going well with her stats ( it boost magic and lysidea’s whole deal is one shot or be one shot) so that’s a lot of support potential used up already. And when considering this is the worst game in the series for vantage thanks to enemy gambits to the point it’s already not worth it on the units who could actually hope to live at least one enemy gambit let alone low gambit avoid get one shot over here. Battalion vantage is far better and even it you have to deal with it being useless every few maps when enemy gambits hit you enough times you have to replenish your battlion. You are just better off employing some impregnable wall and use blessing on her towards the beginning of most maps. It’s a meme build and there are more effective mages if you want a little bit of spice to a run like dark knight ingrid and mortal savant ignaz. Just stick to using the best spell in the game warp and using Luna and dark spikes on occasion if you wanna use her seriously with the mandatory blessing and impregnable wall for when using glass cannons to support her.

Lysithea is fun to use. Like warp with her magic. Also nuking things out of orbit. Although I do get the sentiment that if she's not one-shotting something, she's a goner. Hell the Lilina nod is what i was thinking.
I picked edelgard's route first and I didn't know how good her damage was when I recruited her and ended up making her a dancer. This was not a good move
I made her a dancer but I also transformed her into a killing machine tank. Using Levin sword+ (for the 3range and mag scaling dmg), great knight. 36+def, high as fuck evasion and mag. She would double everything if she didn't kill them in one hit.
My Lysithea got the most kills in my run because I paired her with a dancer. She got 2 kills every round and rarely was in harm's way. -The rest of my army was fliers+Elightened Byleth. She could fend for herself pretty well.
I'm doing a maddening BE run right now and she's much more useful in maddening than I would've initially thought. She seemed overrated on hard mode because everyone outpaced her, but her utility is damn good on maddening.
@Eduardo Smanchez Don't crucify me, but I found Lysithea better as a unit than 2/3 lords and better than Byleth. Maybe I just got RNG screwed, but Dimitri's hitrates were extremely shaky (so were Edelgard's but at least she was a super tank :D) and my Claude was only doing a shit ton of damage with his own special bow. On the other hand, Lysithea has never turned out badly once and she's currently carrying me through Maddening
@@4Tom4lepus4 Yeah RNG plays a huge role with how good any unit is, in my CF maddening run my Edelgard got super DEX screwed and could barley hit anything (especially since she was using the most inaccurate weapon type), but that doesn't mean she's bad I just got unlucky with my levels on her. On the other hand with my other maddeing routes Dimitri was a one man army with battalion vantage + battalion wrath and I made Claude a crit machine and with the killer bow+ the man reached 85 to 90% crit chances oneshotting pretty much anything which was especially nice when he got Wind God which gave him 2-5 range. Are these 2 better than Edelgard? No I just got lucky with their levels and played around their strengths better, I firmly believe that all of the lords are equally useful for different reasons and that when most people say "BLANK is the best lord because they have BLANK" it's because that lord fits into their playstyle (at least that's how I see it) even the acclaimed Raging Storm while amazing isn't without flaws since it can still miss, has limited uses, and is very difficult to forge.
@@josephpanno6816 Yes I totally agree, which is why I mentioned being RNG screwed. Obviously I can only talk from personal experience. The reason why I personally would give Edelgard a slight edge over the other two lords is that she can fulfill two roles - tank and damage dealer, whereas the other two were much frailer damage dealers. I mean, the lords are still totally top tier and all, but my original point was that Lysithea has been more reliable, which is why I *personally* wouldn't say she's worse than the lords by any means.
@@4Tom4lepus4 TBH I never really saw Edelgard as a tank even when I put her in her personal armor class (during my blind hard mode run since on maddening I made her a wyvern) she would easily die if 2 or more enemies got the jump on her. I always saw Edie as a player phase power house. I'd say Dimitri is the tanky one of the three due to his personal skill and dodge tanking being really op in this game, but even in terms of physical tanking I always thought the likes of Dedue and Raphiel were far more reliable than Emperor Edelgard. But again that is all personal experience and that's ok, I will say that Lysithea is a very consistent unit and that is one of her biggest boons.
I'll admit on my first playthrough, I was lazy and kept Thrsys on Lysithea. On every other playthrough, I pass that around like a joint. edit: okay wasn't expecting the blunt joke at the end.
I only played the golden deer route so far but it seems that three houses has a lot of very interesting units to analyze Personally I'd like to see one on Marianne, she seems to be very flexible unit with a lot of viable paths
I don't understand the reason for the debate between lysithea's classes, specifically between dark knight and gremory. Lysithea is never locked to either class, and neither is any unit in this game, she could always pass the exam for both and switch classes whenever convenient. It requires some work, but i'd argue it's worth it and feasible if you make good use of your free time. Lysithea on a horse with thyrsus has amazing range and power, and i think it's her best class in maps that do not punish cavaliers too harshly, otherwise she can be a gremory.
You could in theory do examinations for Dark Knight while still using Gremory in maps where that'd be better, but Dark Knight is already hard to get to quickly. Also the amount of training you have to put into lances and riding will no matter how you put it cut into the time you can tutor Lysithea (or other students) in other aspects like faith, reason and authority. I feel like with Dark Knight you really have to dedicate to it, and any map where you're not taking advantage of the horse it just feels like a waste of time spent teaching her.
Good analysis. Sick editing. I agree that people overrate Lysithea a bit, but I definitely stand by the fact that she is a very solid unit. Her lack of move didn't bother me much, since I always have dancers ready and use other units for stride. I always either keep her in range for chip damage, healing, or have her deal with problematic enemies/cut their numbers to save to make it easier for the frontliners. As you mentioned, there are other mages that have 2+ range spells, and most of the magic users on my team are often relegated to healing, so Thyrsus is just kept on Lysithea. I will definitely give the staff a shot on non-crest units after watching this though, so thanks for shedding some light on that.
Personal experience and all, but I used Lysithea as Dark Knight on maddening in the church route and I preferred her as Dark Knight over Gremory. The faire skill did allow her to barely get those one shots and the mobility was very helpful. I didn't have thrysus so she got the sacred item that only gives +1 range nor did I feed her magic stat boosters as I gave it to my other mages. For warp I didn't need another warp as I had lindhart and Manuala so an extra use wasn't needed. The extra tome use on attacking spells even on maddening is rarely useful since she has so many attack spells. Training her for dark Knight did slow her other ranks but not too much since she used group activities to rank up riding. I can see why people prefer Gremory though.
Lysithea's personal skill lets you do some pretty cheesy strats. In my NG Golden Deer maddening run I focused on raising armor and axes so she could advance to armor knight just for the bases, then swapped back to a magic class immediately. She was the most durable unit I had for much of the early game and she never fell too far behind in magic rank.
@@namoma4922 You only need to get her to Armor D/Axes D+ to get armor knight. Once you take the exam, she gets the 12 DEF/30 HP bases regardless of whether you switch to the class or not. It's basically a huge increase in survivability for minimal investment.
Getting the axe rank (or lance, while we're at it) is easy, adjutants exist, mastermind way overpowers the bane, and if you can sneak into fighter (or soldier/cavelier) her weapon exp rate is nice and high, and there are plenty of auxilary battles where you don't need her nuking things. The hard part is armor and riding enough for the basic classes. Basically, look at it like putting off Dark Spikes or Warp for a week or two for the survivability from AK, or a month or two if you power her riding rank.
the datamined info on the upcoming DLC classes genuinely has me excited for Lysithea and most other magic users, I'm gonna have fun planning class routing
I think it's worth it to train Lysithea in swords even if you aren't using swords at all; you train her enough you can promote her to Swordmaster, which will give her a certainly massive boost in strength and allow her to double many enemies she otherwise would not. With her personal she trains reason/faith/authority on her own so easily that it doesn't cost all that much to spend the extra effort on swords. Might be a bad idea in CF since it's a shorter route, but my VW Maddening mode I had so many extra trainings after I had gotten everyone as high as I needed them to go that it was like "well I might as well train her swords".
This, and training her in Axe and Heavy armor can give you the base defenses from Fortress Knights... There is a lot you can take advantage of with the class system.
Personally I love her as a Valkyrie, because she gets not only extra movement but dark magic range +1 and with thyrsus and her insane damage output it really does make miracles happen.
Holy Knight would be the worst Master Class in the game if Memeal Savant wasn't a thing. Lorenz is... Ok in my experience. Has the same issue as the rest of the mages where he doesn't double, hes also rather weak thanks to his balanced growths (compared to another mage) and his spell selection is just generic. On higher difficulties hes pretty bad, cuz theres nothing hes particularly good at doing. Physical Lorenz is bad even on hard mode. Weak, lacks bulk, very slow. He'll function but someone else will function just as well or better at anything you want him to do.
Tbh Dark Flier Lys sucks. You get Black Tomefaire (Lys uses Dark Magic), Transmute (why should you keep her in the front lines?) and Canto. Valkyrie does the job way better as it gives her a free 1 range extra, equipped with the Thyrsus she will nuke everything from a safe range and has canto. As well as Dark Flier only allows Lys a certain magic oriented Gambit only and you might have it equipped on Constance already if you don't do NG+. Overall Lysithea is best as Gremory or Valkyrie.

@@xCrowley33 problem is with valkyrie vs dark flier, valkyrie may have +1 range, but it has 2 less move so, -1 effective coverage. Also, going for flying gives access to alert stance which really helps on my vantage wrath build with her.

And you don't rly need alert stance if you have vantage + crit ring + counter battalion or even the DLC chalice equipped on Lysithea. Further more, this leaves Lysithea to a worse battalion since there is only 1 magic flight battalion availible. Lysithea tends to do better with utility battalions anyways. Valkyrie indeed offers bad movement, but still gives Canto + Movement + 1 access if trained properly. The idea of Lysithea is to keep her out of harm, which Valkyrie does best. The 1 range (which stacks btw) is better than the clutch avoid stance on Lysithea. But for Wrath/Vantage that I'd rather go Grimoire for more tome uses and damage output and equip the battalion skills instead of the normal ones. But that's my opinion. I might try your build out. Edit: I see Lysithea only learns battalion desparation. So nvm me on that. Wrath/Vantage Lysithea works best then. Anyhow even for that, the base stats of Gremory win, for a strong enemy phase Lysithea as well as it gives better tome uses compared to dark flier. You don't really need canto since you want her to be targetted. This means she will be worthless during playerphase tho.
@@xCrowley33 valid points, I prefer flying because it allows you to ignore all terrain restrictions, which can hinder horse combat. Currently early in a NG+ run but I might as well drop some more renown or more time into Lysithea to take her through Valkyrie as well. I imagine which of the two is better could quite possibly come down to the map.
Lysithea was essentially my Death Knight killer/Warp user in basically every route, mainly cause she comes with Luna, Dark Spikes, and Seraphim, which is a really nice set of murder utility that is pretty hard to match, especially with Lysithea's high magic stat. She makes for a pretty decent anti raid boss unit, considering how her raw damage means that chip damage on a tough unit will allow me to kill them; it's how I managed to beat Maddening Golden Deer final map anyway, using Luna after chip damage to kill the final boss, who is a beast.
My first playthrough of the game I used Lysithea as a dancer and just had her running around with a Levin sword. I've since realized she's meant to melt faces off with pure magic, but I still will have fond memories of small snowflake screaming "I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!" as she runs people through with a lightning sword
It's also worth noting that you can kill the Death Knight pretty easily without Lysithea's dark spikes, even on Maddening. If you have rally strength and speed (Raph and Ignatz on GD) That paired with the lance horse slaying combat art and a few gambits can kill him just as well. Also I figure I should mention that you are best to unlock both Gremory and Dark Knight, you can freely switch and she hits A rank in both Reason and Faith easy with her personal skill giving you room to train her riding and lance. Gremory is there for when you need 2 warps and Dark Knight for other chapters, like any that can't be warpskipped i.e. many Paralogues.
Regardless of the opinion, this was a great video with lots of in depth info about the character & how it performs in battle. Very well done. I hope you do one of these for all the characters frankly.
To share my own experience, I did Golden Deer as my first no ng+ maddening run. Dark Knight Lysithea WAS a large investment in training, but it was worthwhile, as on maddening every last point of damage can mean the difference between a 1-shot or not, wheras claude/leonie/byleth were relying on brave weapons and/or crits to get 1 shots. I like that you point out thrysus trading though, as it is easily overlooked. I believe she was my most danced unit in that run. While overall I'd say dark knight is her best for maddening, I agree with Gremory for hard.

I was wondering when i started off my maddening GD run if Lysithea was going to reveal herself to be extremely overhyped unit, but honestly she still performs really well. She has a tough time in the beginning starts to pick up speed as her spell list grows and then hits her stride around thyrsus. She helped a during the midpoint of the school phase with reliably being able to one hit the stronger units and has no passed the torch onto Claudr, hilda, and leonie (after learning point blank volley) to carry the rest of my run.
I’m no fan of the Mortal Savant class, but you didn’t even mention using a Levin sword with her. Also, the 12 def upon becoming a Warlock/Bishop let’s her take at least one hit from most enemies, even on Maddening.
The little sound effects when things come in and out is a great touch. Glad to see your videos gradually improve in quality! hope to see continued growth of your channel
One way to put Mortal Savant to use is through Forged Levin Swords imo. 1-3 Range and 6 Movement essentially equals Gremory having 1-4 Range with Thyrsus and 5 Movement, Lysithea benefits from a -faire skill, opens up her Item Slot for a Ring or similar equipment and she can always fall back on her 1-2 Range Spells if necessary. This does essentially halve Warp Uses compared to Gremory tho, in addition to the somewhat hefty materials required to repair Levin Swords (However, the Dark Merchant available sometime after the Timeskip sells Arcane Crystals at 1000 Gold a piece, so that eases repairs a bit).
I just kept her as dancer most of the game, maximize that dodge with her speed makes her pretty unhittable and with a forged levin sword works quite well
I don't think she will be any dodgier than any other unit as a dancer. Her base stats are meh and she has a very average speed growth and a atrocious luck growth. This doesn't include the fact that most relevant non magic classes give bonuses to speed growth or speed class bonuses. The only avoid she would get is sword avoid +20 but that i believe can be used in any class as long as you have access to dancer.
Hey, @Mekkah, it's really nice to see you uploading more FE3H WAIFU episodes. Since Lysithea's episode is the only one that came out before the DLC's final wave, I would like to share my experience with Lysithea on my first playthrough (which was on GD after the DLC). Since this was not on Maddening, Lysithea of course was pretty powerful and one-shotted or one-rounded something every turn. After getting the Def and Res boosts from promoting into Bishop, she also became significantly less frail (btw, this is something that might have been worth mentioning in the video). I was able to get her Reason and Magic ranks to A before being able to promote into Gremory, and so I had plenty of chapters to instruct her in Flying and then Riding. With the help of the sauna, it didn't take long to get C-Flying and certify her as a Dark Flyer. Giving her a some Flying ranks gave an excuse to try and get a Pegasus Knight certification to get Darting Blow, just as I had previously done with Marianne, whom I trained as a Dark Flyer rather than a healer from the beginning (btw, Marianne is amazing and maybe you should do a WAIFU about her, talking about her post-DLC options, since Dark Flyer and Valkyrie offensive builds are actually viable on her). Some time around the last five or six chapters, I was able to certify Lysithea as a Valkyrie, and then got the mastery skill, Uncannny Blow (+30 Hit on initiation, which also boosts Gambit Hit). Lysithea's endgame skill build was Reason prowess, Fiendish Blow, Darting Blow, Uncanny Blow, and Dark Magic range +1. It was around the endgame (last three chapters) that I decided whom to give my +2 Movement DLC stat booster to, and it was Lysithea. Yes, it was a beginner's mistake to hold on to that item for so long, but boosting Lysithea's movement by two points is something that I definitely did not regret (and now I actually give it to her from the point I recruit recruit her). 8 Movement, Canto, and 6 Range made Lysithea's killing potential even better and I had a blast with it. Even as a Gremory (7 Movement and no Canto) she has been really good in my other routes, and that's what I have used her as (I really like double Warp, but I also switch to Valkyrie sometimes, if I have time to regain her Riding ranks). To close, I would also like to talk about one more option that Lysithea (and non-flyer magic users) gets from the DLC (even though I didn't use it on my first playthrough). If you complete Hapi's paralogue with her on your team, you get a B-rank magical batallion (Timotheos Magi Corps) with Resonant Flames (60 base hit and wide AOE) that grants +8 Magic Attack, +10 Hit and Crit, +7 Charm, and some defensive boosts. This batallion can be accessed much earlier than Macuil Evil-Repelling Co., and it is comparatibly as good.
I recommend trying her as a Trickster in maddening mode so our squishy glass cannon can become a great stealth mage. Lucky 7 can give her a +5 to Magic, Speed, and Resistance being boosted sometimes. Having stealth can have the glass cannon to hide behind absolute tanks like Dedue. And best of all, 6 movement that can allow for Foul Play and Duelist blow so you can take out any potential counterattacks quickly.
Just a quick tip for anyone playing NG+: Lysithea's low defense can be patched by giving her ranks in Armor and Axe so that she gets certifications for Armored Knight at level 10 and Fortress Knight at level 20. You don't even need to reclass Lysithea into an armor unit; just make her pass the exams. (This is a little known fact, but every class has a set of "base stats". When a unit gets a certification for a new class, any stats that are lower than the class' base are forced into the base value. For example, Fortress Knight has a base of 17 on both Str and Def, so if Lysithea passes the exam, her Str and Def will get buffed all the way up to 17). Getting the ranks for Armored Knight doesn't take so much time, but getting the ones for Fortress Knight did take until around chapter 7 or 8 (I recruited Lysithea in chapter 2 of CF NG+). I did this on my first NG+ run, and now I just spend renown to buy the Axe and Armor ranks. *You can make similar investments on other frail magical girls*, all of which have a bane in Axe, Armor, or both (because the game really wants to make it difficult for you to have physically tanky magic users).
@@AkameGaKillfan777 Someone already 1 turned the final boss of GD with Lysithea and Luna, granted, they gave all magic boosters on her and did a fair amount of grinding.
@@Jardrin Yeah I actually saw someone's Maddening playthrough finale where they could do over 70 damage to Nemesis with Luna. They didn't crit though. For me it's Sublime Heaven or bust.
Mekkah if you don't have a crest and use thyrsus you will take 10 damage every round of combat not every turn. (which basically means that even if it doesn't hit you, you still take 10 damage) so it is not advised to be used by non crest fellows.
An important distinction most of the time, but I will say most of the time magic users like Hubert and Dorothea will only attack once per turn unless they're being danced, since they need to be safe on EP.
With the added DLC Her as a Valkyrie is pretty fun and gives her a bonus in Magic range, though you will have to train her in riding. And on my playthrough I didn't get Thesaurus, Soo I just gave her with Flayn's Staff for a added plus one.
I made her a Mortal Savant on my first playthrough (Golden Deer) for memes but switched her over to Gremory later. In my other three playthroughs for other paths I went out of my way to recruit her for Warp and made her a Gremory every time. I think she's the best Warp user. Compared to Linhardt, she has access to Gremory, which makes her more flexible with magic than she would be as a Bishop, but Linhardt does have Physic which is pretty nice. She also has a better Magic stat than Manuela, generally speaking.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Mekkkah might be selling short a mounted class. The Dark Knight is a very good choice for Lysithea on Golden Deer route. The mistake is thinking it's an either/or choice with Gremory, instead of a competing choice that you swap between for each map. Dark Knight does seem to have an issue with opportunity cost at first glance. As you said she gets no benefit from mastermind in the classroom and the high riding rank takes time to reach. The lance penalty doesn't help either. But, realistically, professor ranks grow quickly even if you're not playing optimally, and it's not too hard to keep your students fed and happy (or gift bomb them) while training your avatar's own ranks on monastery days. From that perspective the only cost is giving up grinding days, and spacing out any paralogues you play. But even then I almost never do more than one set at a time because tutoring motivation is so valuable, and so quickly spent because of fast professor growth if I'm not renewing it in the monastery. So getting the riding and lances up is just an issue of time, not lost opportunity. Authority, reason, and faith should mostly grow fine on their own after the very early game, reaching where they need to be for any class build. And I have no shame trying a seal on a +60% chance or so. And the reward of a seven move, eleven range unit with effective damage that - with fast skill acquisition - becomes an eight move, thirteen range unit can't be understated in the late game. You have basically meteor range with Canto, and enough power to delete just about any unit on the map while keeping forward momentum. A lot of those late game maps encourage fast play before dangerous reinforcements show up, and reward player phase action. No mage unit does dark knight as effectively as her, and it's a gift I would hate to give up. That -5% + riding speed penalty does not matter at this point. The only drawback is being reduced to a *mere* one warp, but with the pace of those late game maps even that isn't felt much, especially if playing casually. And given how effective mastermind is at raising her ranks, if you *do* need the double warp, or hell are just playing a desert map, just switch her back for a bit. Master seals aren't that rare or pricey, not once Anna shows up.
Another thing worth noting: Post timeskip, you have *so much* time on your hands to do Aux Battles that you can pretty easily just have Lysithea pass her Cavalier exam (if you've been working towards Dark Knight on her she should probably have sufficient ranks for that at this point, if not Soldier works fine too), equip a lance and the Knowledge Gem, and stick her in an Adjutant slot for an Aux Battle or two. So much for not being able to use Knowledge Gem or Mastermind (p sure that applies too) to raise Lance or Riding :V (and as an added bonus, she might very well pick up Reposition if you use Soldier) Sure, it takes more work than Gremory would have, but having a 4 (and later 5) range nuke without accuracy penalties, 7 (and later 8) Mov and the ability to just canto in and out of danger was invaluable, in BLions specifically during some of the siege weapon heavy late chapters, and generally for any map with a lot of Snipers. (putting a Guard Adjutant on her also goes a long way to keep her alive, and can provide some more Hit bonuses from support that can even give her reliable hitrates on Tomebreaker Brawlers)
I think you're overlooking opportunity cost. Lysithea gets everything she needs from Faith/Reason/Authority. The heavy investment you'd need to put into Lance/Riding both slows down her progression in her primary attributes, and robs other units of investment. Dark Knight Lysithea isn't better than giving other units proper investment, especially in a game with Stride.
@@miahmagick Canto turns Lysithea from a unit that can only ever kill the last enemy in a given area bc she gets oneshot if there's something left alive, to a unit that can run into a group of enemies, kill something, and canto out to safety, making her a lot more independent from team support and thus infinitely more flexible for a variety of situations, especially those involving larger enemy groups which only get more frequent on higher difficulties and later in the game. I also feel that people often overstate the kind of investment she needs to hit Dark Knight. If you've been planning to get it for her from the start, making sure to have her work on that horse rank whenever possible, she should have little trouble hitting the required ranks in time. Sure, maybe you get Dark Spikes or Warp a chapter or two later than you would otherwise, but that's during a much easier portion of the game than the tougher lategame where Canto on your glass cannon is vital to let her contribute without putting herself in danger. also byleth's tutoring skills are honestly kinda meh and do very little beyond like C rank or so anyways so I think the one person who has to live without it so lysithea can have another horse lesson will be fine
@@slanax97 Why canto when I can Thyrsus? They don't overstate it. You just overvalue wasting resources on a unit that doesn't need it. Also, Warp/Dark Spikes later when Ch. 5 is Warp skippable and Ch. 6 features Dark Knight is a pretty stupid trade to make for a gimmick that doesn't come online until post-timeskip. Byleth's tutoring skills would do more for you if you focused on primary stat, and wasted less time with Riding/Lances on a unit that doesn't need it.
I actually always referred to her as "The Loli Metal Gear", because that is exactly what she is lol. Im on my final route(for the church) and it marks the 4th route i got lysithea in.

Time traveler here. There are two new classes that will cause Lysithea to absolutely destroy. We now have Dark Fliers and Valkyries. Both grant her access to Canto, and, depending on preference, you can put her on a Pegasus to ignore terrain, or on a horse to get +1 range and black tomefare. I tried Dark Flier (Flysithea, as I've dubbed it) on a playthrough, and it's extremely strong, and I plan to put Lysithea on a horse in my next run through.
@@gameboyn64 I don't think combat arts override vantage (needless to say pick of gambit users first to avoid them) levin swords might get extra range from thyrsus though I haven't tested it, if so it gives lysithea a 5 range option without any additional skills
@@megarotom1590 the only combat art that bypasses vantage is windsweep but enemies almost never use combat arts to begin with. Not that it matters when silver gauntlet war masters can one round lysithea with ease and have so much bulk that she is probably going to need to crit to survive with vantage. Also in maddening late game, most enemies have battalions so that charm stat can be a problem. I'm 90% sure Thyrsus only works on spells. The range levin sword attack is treated as a normal weapon attack like a javelin as it still checks terrain.
@@megarotom1590 the war masters in BL maddening late game had 65-75 hp and 22-27 res and 32-37 ish AS so... and they all run tomebreaker for good measure.
Great editing! I agree on a lot of what you said. Lysithea, in the beginning, is tricky to use for how terrible her defense is and her limited uses of her base magic is taxing when you're in a bind for another range unit. However, she does have some form of redemption towards the timeskip point and beyond as she would be able to get A hit in before she'll be in trouble. In both my playthroughs of Golden Deer and Blue Lions I have lucked out and got a Lysithea that had a good supply of +def level ups! For now, I shall be in waiting for Petra's video!
Mekkah, awesome content as always. One note is that lysithea can make use of mastermind to collect ranks for things like riding and lances by using her as an adjutant during skirmishes. That's how i got her darting blow and mov +1 in my maddening mode.
I don’t play maddening, but my favorite Lysithea was Falcon Knight with a Levin Sword. Fly her over to some trees, dismount, wait and let Alert Stance do all the work. Lance was hell to rank up, but I save scum all of my promotions so it wasn’t like I was going out of my way. Shame there isn’t a magic lance like there is with the other weapon types.
I have used her in every playthrough and she has been one of my best units. I am going to bring up my maddening experience without ng+ on Black Eagles Route. I actually think bow breaker is excellent on her since with Thyrsus in hand she can clear out bow cavaliers real easy on maps like Nader's Paralouge or Capturing Derdriu. She can do it pretty reliably and with her equipping Dark Spikes she can use it pretty well. I also think vantage is an excellent option on her especially since she usually has the magical mt to one shot most things.

Lord Wallace Yep. Lysithea is the reason I would almost consider maddening easy. Honestly I think she would be a 5 star unit for the same reason Mangs and Mekkah gave Lena a 5 star rating in Shadow Dragon. She just breaks the game along with stride, a dancer and easy access to wyvern/pegasus classes.
Along with the fact that the Warp range is dependent on Magic, Lysithea has the most range with the warp skill in comparison to the other mages who learn it.

In my Silver Snow run I used Swordmaster Lysithea and things went better than expected with a forged Levin Sword and a Forged Silver Sword SoulBlade.
I had a dancer Lysithea with all the sword avoid skills, several strength boosters so she didn't get weighed down for additional avoid, and gave her an avoid battalion. She murdered everything while never getting hit.
I did this a 2nd time on NG+ where she had flying maxed out for even more avoid and she was literally unhittable except by a few enemies who even then weren't likely to land a hit.
@@SwanEdward I pretty much soloed the final battle of AM with Evasion build on Lysithea... The amount of Evasion you can get in this game is ridiculous.
imo thats the best way to play her. final class dancer or assassin and keep giving building/fixing levin swords for her. avoid tank while double hitting (and killing) basically everything
I would like to point out that the Gremory movement can be helped by equipping the March ring. She can equip it before moving then equip the Thyrsus to attack so she basically has 6 move that way.
Why would I do that when I could put it on a wyvern or Pegasus knight?

I would say that Valkyrie is better for more range, but honestly, Thyrsus + Flier Canto trivializes the entire game.
@Fanjanhong * the flier mobility plus Thyrsus or dark tome range+1 practically makes lysithea impossible for the enemy to reach. Dark knight can do something similar, but trading 5 damage for flier mobility seems like a waste, since there are many maps with a bunch of terrain, or at least some terrain obstacles, which is bad for mounted mobility but amazing for flier mobility.
I prefer Valkyrie, better range and damage isn’t one of her weak spots

Tip: you can certify Lysithea as an Armored Knight as early as lv 10. The requirement is C in Axes and D in Heavy Armor, but you can get ~65% probability with D+ in axes. While it does require you to sacrifice a few tutoring sessions training Lysithea's weaknesses, it causes her Def to raise to the class floor of 12 (from ~4) and her HP to raise to the class floor of 30 (from ~24). In my current BL run, Lysithea hilariously became the tankiest unit on my team apart from Dimitri and Dedue. Of course other squishy units can also certify for Armored Knight, but Lysithea benefits from it the most, due to 1) her extremely low Def growth, and 2) her ability Mastermind which makes up for the extra tutoring sessions.

I actually recommend mastering Mercenary after Mage since you will have time before promotion since she learns so fast just to get Vantage. It helps her enemy phase A LOT. Especially if you have Nosferatu attached when you go back to a magic class, she becomes VERY hard to kill. It worked incredibly well for me and helped it helps SPD growth anyway so she gets doubled less. Levin Sword + is also 3 range so that helps as well.

Any route where you can't get her Thyrsus especially means that being a fast dodgy magic sword girl that one shots you is a legit route for her before her Master Class.

@@thatonecanto because there are some massive problems with it. For starters Lysidea’s often gonna be one hit ko. This is fine on its own thanks to guard adjutants or blessing but you are gonna wanna have those on after vantage too since lysidea is gonna want protection from gambits and lysidea’s best support gambit is easily blessing due to it usually going well with her stats ( it boost magic and lysidea’s whole deal is one shot or be one shot) so that’s a lot of support potential used up already. And when considering this is the worst game in the series for vantage thanks to enemy gambits to the point it’s already not worth it on the units who could actually hope to live at least one enemy gambit let alone low gambit avoid get one shot over here. Battalion vantage is far better and even it you have to deal with it being useless every few maps when enemy gambits hit you enough times you have to replenish your battlion. You are just better off employing some impregnable wall and use blessing on her towards the beginning of most maps. It’s a meme build and there are more effective mages if you want a little bit of spice to a run like dark knight ingrid and mortal savant ignaz. Just stick to using the best spell in the game warp and using Luna and dark spikes on occasion if you wanna use her seriously with the mandatory blessing and impregnable wall for when using glass cannons to support her.

I picked edelgard's route first and I didn't know how good her damage was when I recruited her and ended up making her a dancer.
This was not a good move
I made her a dancer but I also transformed her into a killing machine tank. Using Levin sword+ (for the 3range and mag scaling dmg), great knight. 36+def, high as fuck evasion and mag. She would double everything if she didn't kill them in one hit.
My Lysithea got the most kills in my run because I paired her with a dancer. She got 2 kills every round and rarely was in harm's way.
-The rest of my army was fliers+Elightened Byleth. She could fend for herself pretty well.

She seemed overrated on hard mode because everyone outpaced her, but her utility is damn good on maddening.

@Eduardo Smanchez Don't crucify me, but I found Lysithea better as a unit than 2/3 lords and better than Byleth. Maybe I just got RNG screwed, but Dimitri's hitrates were extremely shaky (so were Edelgard's but at least she was a super tank :D) and my Claude was only doing a shit ton of damage with his own special bow. On the other hand, Lysithea has never turned out badly once and she's currently carrying me through Maddening
@@4Tom4lepus4 Yeah RNG plays a huge role with how good any unit is, in my CF maddening run my Edelgard got super DEX screwed and could barley hit anything (especially since she was using the most inaccurate weapon type), but that doesn't mean she's bad I just got unlucky with my levels on her. On the other hand with my other maddeing routes Dimitri was a one man army with battalion vantage + battalion wrath and I made Claude a crit machine and with the killer bow+ the man reached 85 to 90% crit chances oneshotting pretty much anything which was especially nice when he got Wind God which gave him 2-5 range. Are these 2 better than Edelgard? No I just got lucky with their levels and played around their strengths better, I firmly believe that all of the lords are equally useful for different reasons and that when most people say "BLANK is the best lord because they have BLANK" it's because that lord fits into their playstyle (at least that's how I see it) even the acclaimed Raging Storm while amazing isn't without flaws since it can still miss, has limited uses, and is very difficult to forge.

The reason why I personally would give Edelgard a slight edge over the other two lords is that she can fulfill two roles - tank and damage dealer, whereas the other two were much frailer damage dealers. I mean, the lords are still totally top tier and all, but my original point was that Lysithea has been more reliable, which is why I *personally* wouldn't say she's worse than the lords by any means.
@@4Tom4lepus4 TBH I never really saw Edelgard as a tank even when I put her in her personal armor class (during my blind hard mode run since on maddening I made her a wyvern) she would easily die if 2 or more enemies got the jump on her. I always saw Edie as a player phase power house. I'd say Dimitri is the tanky one of the three due to his personal skill and dodge tanking being really op in this game, but even in terms of physical tanking I always thought the likes of Dedue and Raphiel were far more reliable than Emperor Edelgard. But again that is all personal experience and that's ok, I will say that Lysithea is a very consistent unit and that is one of her biggest boons.
I'll admit on my first playthrough, I was lazy and kept Thrsys on Lysithea. On every other playthrough, I pass that around like a joint.

I don't understand the reason for the debate between lysithea's classes, specifically between dark knight and gremory. Lysithea is never locked to either class, and neither is any unit in this game, she could always pass the exam for both and switch classes whenever convenient. It requires some work, but i'd argue it's worth it and feasible if you make good use of your free time. Lysithea on a horse with thyrsus has amazing range and power, and i think it's her best class in maps that do not punish cavaliers too harshly, otherwise she can be a gremory.
You could in theory do examinations for Dark Knight while still using Gremory in maps where that'd be better, but Dark Knight is already hard to get to quickly. Also the amount of training you have to put into lances and riding will no matter how you put it cut into the time you can tutor Lysithea (or other students) in other aspects like faith, reason and authority. I feel like with Dark Knight you really have to dedicate to it, and any map where you're not taking advantage of the horse it just feels like a waste of time spent teaching her.
But still, when I made her a Dark Knight in my run she became MVP three times in a row and became my best unit of my team
Good analysis. Sick editing. I agree that people overrate Lysithea a bit, but I definitely stand by the fact that she is a very solid unit. Her lack of move didn't bother me much, since I always have dancers ready and use other units for stride. I always either keep her in range for chip damage, healing, or have her deal with problematic enemies/cut their numbers to save to make it easier for the frontliners. As you mentioned, there are other mages that have 2+ range spells, and most of the magic users on my team are often relegated to healing, so Thyrsus is just kept on Lysithea. I will definitely give the staff a shot on non-crest units after watching this though, so thanks for shedding some light on that.
Personal experience and all, but I used Lysithea as Dark Knight on maddening in the church route and I preferred her as Dark Knight over Gremory. The faire skill did allow her to barely get those one shots and the mobility was very helpful. I didn't have thrysus so she got the sacred item that only gives +1 range nor did I feed her magic stat boosters as I gave it to my other mages. For warp I didn't need another warp as I had lindhart and Manuala so an extra use wasn't needed. The extra tome use on attacking spells even on maddening is rarely useful since she has so many attack spells. Training her for dark Knight did slow her other ranks but not too much since she used group activities to rank up riding. I can see why people prefer Gremory though.

Lysithea's personal skill lets you do some pretty cheesy strats. In my NG Golden Deer maddening run I focused on raising armor and axes so she could advance to armor knight just for the bases, then swapped back to a magic class immediately. She was the most durable unit I had for much of the early game and she never fell too far behind in magic rank.

@@namoma4922 You only need to get her to Armor D/Axes D+ to get armor knight. Once you take the exam, she gets the 12 DEF/30 HP bases regardless of whether you switch to the class or not. It's basically a huge increase in survivability for minimal investment.
Getting the axe rank (or lance, while we're at it) is easy, adjutants exist, mastermind way overpowers the bane, and if you can sneak into fighter (or soldier/cavelier) her weapon exp rate is nice and high, and there are plenty of auxilary battles where you don't need her nuking things.
The hard part is armor and riding enough for the basic classes. Basically, look at it like putting off Dark Spikes or Warp for a week or two for the survivability from AK, or a month or two if you power her riding rank.
I don't care: I love her destructive potential.

Haven't finished 3H yet but Lys here is my favorite unit, so here's my like and my comment, I'mma be back once I finish it!
I think it's worth it to train Lysithea in swords even if you aren't using swords at all; you train her enough you can promote her to Swordmaster, which will give her a certainly massive boost in strength and allow her to double many enemies she otherwise would not. With her personal she trains reason/faith/authority on her own so easily that it doesn't cost all that much to spend the extra effort on swords. Might be a bad idea in CF since it's a shorter route, but my VW Maddening mode I had so many extra trainings after I had gotten everyone as high as I needed them to go that it was like "well I might as well train her swords".
This, and training her in Axe and Heavy armor can give you the base defenses from Fortress Knights... There is a lot you can take advantage of with the class system.
Personally I love her as a Valkyrie, because she gets not only extra movement but dark magic range +1 and with thyrsus and her insane damage output it really does make miracles happen.
Could you make a waifu on Lorenz. I think he is a very interesting unit. He can be physical unit or magic unit.

Lorenz is... Ok in my experience. Has the same issue as the rest of the mages where he doesn't double, hes also rather weak thanks to his balanced growths (compared to another mage) and his spell selection is just generic. On higher difficulties hes pretty bad, cuz theres nothing hes particularly good at doing.
Physical Lorenz is bad even on hard mode. Weak, lacks bulk, very slow. He'll function but someone else will function just as well or better at anything you want him to do.

Tbh Dark Flier Lys sucks. You get Black Tomefaire (Lys uses Dark Magic), Transmute (why should you keep her in the front lines?) and Canto. Valkyrie does the job way better as it gives her a free 1 range extra, equipped with the Thyrsus she will nuke everything from a safe range and has canto.
As well as Dark Flier only allows Lys a certain magic oriented Gambit only and you might have it equipped on Constance already if you don't do NG+.
Overall Lysithea is best as Gremory or Valkyrie.

@@xCrowley33 problem is with valkyrie vs dark flier, valkyrie may have +1 range, but it has 2 less move so, -1 effective coverage. Also, going for flying gives access to alert stance which really helps on my vantage wrath build with her.

And you don't rly need alert stance if you have vantage + crit ring + counter battalion or even the DLC chalice equipped on Lysithea. Further more, this leaves Lysithea to a worse battalion since there is only 1 magic flight battalion availible. Lysithea tends to do better with utility battalions anyways.
Valkyrie indeed offers bad movement, but still gives Canto + Movement + 1 access if trained properly. The idea of Lysithea is to keep her out of harm, which Valkyrie does best. The 1 range (which stacks btw) is better than the clutch avoid stance on Lysithea. But for Wrath/Vantage that I'd rather go Grimoire for more tome uses and damage output and equip the battalion skills instead of the normal ones.
But that's my opinion. I might try your build out.
Edit: I see Lysithea only learns battalion desparation. So nvm me on that. Wrath/Vantage Lysithea works best then.
Anyhow even for that, the base stats of Gremory win, for a strong enemy phase Lysithea as well as it gives better tome uses compared to dark flier. You don't really need canto since you want her to be targetted.
This means she will be worthless during playerphase tho.
@@xCrowley33 valid points, I prefer flying because it allows you to ignore all terrain restrictions, which can hinder horse combat. Currently early in a NG+ run but I might as well drop some more renown or more time into Lysithea to take her through Valkyrie as well. I imagine which of the two is better could quite possibly come down to the map.
Lysithea was essentially my Death Knight killer/Warp user in basically every route, mainly cause she comes with Luna, Dark Spikes, and Seraphim, which is a really nice set of murder utility that is pretty hard to match, especially with Lysithea's high magic stat. She makes for a pretty decent anti raid boss unit, considering how her raw damage means that chip damage on a tough unit will allow me to kill them; it's how I managed to beat Maddening Golden Deer final map anyway, using Luna after chip damage to kill the final boss, who is a beast.
4 months later: given that DLC class, so much for mobility issues!

My first playthrough of the game I used Lysithea as a dancer and just had her running around with a Levin sword. I've since realized she's meant to melt faces off with pure magic, but I still will have fond memories of small snowflake screaming "I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!" as she runs people through with a lightning sword

It's also worth noting that you can kill the Death Knight pretty easily without Lysithea's dark spikes, even on Maddening. If you have rally strength and speed (Raph and Ignatz on GD) That paired with the lance horse slaying combat art and a few gambits can kill him just as well. Also I figure I should mention that you are best to unlock both Gremory and Dark Knight, you can freely switch and she hits A rank in both Reason and Faith easy with her personal skill giving you room to train her riding and lance. Gremory is there for when you need 2 warps and Dark Knight for other chapters, like any that can't be warpskipped i.e. many Paralogues.

Lysithea is Chaz's WAIFU since she deals A LOT OF DAMAGE and WHAT A RANGE she have with a special staff.
To share my own experience, I did Golden Deer as my first no ng+ maddening run. Dark Knight Lysithea WAS a large investment in training, but it was worthwhile, as on maddening every last point of damage can mean the difference between a 1-shot or not, wheras claude/leonie/byleth were relying on brave weapons and/or crits to get 1 shots. I like that you point out thrysus trading though, as it is easily overlooked. I believe she was my most danced unit in that run.
While overall I'd say dark knight is her best for maddening, I agree with Gremory for hard.

I was wondering when i started off my maddening GD run if Lysithea was going to reveal herself to be extremely overhyped unit, but honestly she still performs really well. She has a tough time in the beginning starts to pick up speed as her spell list grows and then hits her stride around thyrsus. She helped a during the midpoint of the school phase with reliably being able to one hit the stronger units and has no passed the torch onto Claudr, hilda, and leonie (after learning point blank volley) to carry the rest of my run.

One way to put Mortal Savant to use is through Forged Levin Swords imo. 1-3 Range and 6 Movement essentially equals Gremory having 1-4 Range with Thyrsus and 5 Movement, Lysithea benefits from a -faire skill, opens up her Item Slot for a Ring or similar equipment and she can always fall back on her 1-2 Range Spells if necessary. This does essentially halve Warp Uses compared to Gremory tho, in addition to the somewhat hefty materials required to repair Levin Swords (However, the Dark Merchant available sometime after the Timeskip sells Arcane Crystals at 1000 Gold a piece, so that eases repairs a bit).
I can't really say anything "definitive" about Lysithea as everything I'd say wpuld be due to personal experience, but I do believe that she's good.

I don't think she will be any dodgier than any other unit as a dancer. Her base stats are meh and she has a very average speed growth and a atrocious luck growth. This doesn't include the fact that most relevant non magic classes give bonuses to speed growth or speed class bonuses. The only avoid she would get is sword avoid +20 but that i believe can be used in any class as long as you have access to dancer.
Hey, @Mekkah, it's really nice to see you uploading more FE3H WAIFU episodes. Since Lysithea's episode is the only one that came out before the DLC's final wave, I would like to share my experience with Lysithea on my first playthrough (which was on GD after the DLC). Since this was not on Maddening, Lysithea of course was pretty powerful and one-shotted or one-rounded something every turn. After getting the Def and Res boosts from promoting into Bishop, she also became significantly less frail (btw, this is something that might have been worth mentioning in the video).
I was able to get her Reason and Magic ranks to A before being able to promote into Gremory, and so I had plenty of chapters to instruct her in Flying and then Riding. With the help of the sauna, it didn't take long to get C-Flying and certify her as a Dark Flyer. Giving her a some Flying ranks gave an excuse to try and get a Pegasus Knight certification to get Darting Blow, just as I had previously done with Marianne, whom I trained as a Dark Flyer rather than a healer from the beginning (btw, Marianne is amazing and maybe you should do a WAIFU about her, talking about her post-DLC options, since Dark Flyer and Valkyrie offensive builds are actually viable on her). Some time around the last five or six chapters, I was able to certify Lysithea as a Valkyrie, and then got the mastery skill, Uncannny Blow (+30 Hit on initiation, which also boosts Gambit Hit). Lysithea's endgame skill build was Reason prowess, Fiendish Blow, Darting Blow, Uncanny Blow, and Dark Magic range +1. It was around the endgame (last three chapters) that I decided whom to give my +2 Movement DLC stat booster to, and it was Lysithea. Yes, it was a beginner's mistake to hold on to that item for so long, but boosting Lysithea's movement by two points is something that I definitely did not regret (and now I actually give it to her from the point I recruit recruit her). 8 Movement, Canto, and 6 Range made Lysithea's killing potential even better and I had a blast with it. Even as a Gremory (7 Movement and no Canto) she has been really good in my other routes, and that's what I have used her as (I really like double Warp, but I also switch to Valkyrie sometimes, if I have time to regain her Riding ranks).
To close, I would also like to talk about one more option that Lysithea (and non-flyer magic users) gets from the DLC (even though I didn't use it on my first playthrough). If you complete Hapi's paralogue with her on your team, you get a B-rank magical batallion (Timotheos Magi Corps) with Resonant Flames (60 base hit and wide AOE) that grants +8 Magic Attack, +10 Hit and Crit, +7 Charm, and some defensive boosts. This batallion can be accessed much earlier than Macuil Evil-Repelling Co., and it is comparatibly as good.
I recommend trying her as a Trickster in maddening mode so our squishy glass cannon can become a great stealth mage. Lucky 7 can give her a +5 to Magic, Speed, and Resistance being boosted sometimes. Having stealth can have the glass cannon to hide behind absolute tanks like Dedue. And best of all, 6 movement that can allow for Foul Play and Duelist blow so you can take out any potential counterattacks quickly.
Just a quick tip for anyone playing NG+:
Lysithea's low defense can be patched by giving her ranks in Armor and Axe so that she gets certifications for Armored Knight at level 10 and Fortress Knight at level 20.
You don't even need to reclass Lysithea into an armor unit; just make her pass the exams.
(This is a little known fact, but every class has a set of "base stats". When a unit gets a certification for a new class, any stats that are lower than the class' base are forced into the base value. For example, Fortress Knight has a base of 17 on both Str and Def, so if Lysithea passes the exam, her Str and Def will get buffed all the way up to 17).
Getting the ranks for Armored Knight doesn't take so much time, but getting the ones for Fortress Knight did take until around chapter 7 or 8 (I recruited Lysithea in chapter 2 of CF NG+).
I did this on my first NG+ run, and now I just spend renown to buy the Axe and Armor ranks. *You can make similar investments on other frail magical girls*, all of which have a bane in Axe, Armor, or both (because the game really wants to make it difficult for you to have physically tanky magic users).
Big brain plays. I should do that too.

Mekkah if you don't have a crest and use thyrsus you will take 10 damage every round of combat not every turn. (which basically means that even if it doesn't hit you, you still take 10 damage) so it is not advised to be used by non crest fellows.
Same goes for Shields. It's what happened when I gave the Aegis Shield to Dedue.
An important distinction most of the time, but I will say most of the time magic users like Hubert and Dorothea will only attack once per turn unless they're being danced, since they need to be safe on EP.
With the added DLC Her as a Valkyrie is pretty fun and gives her a bonus in Magic range, though you will have to train her in riding. And on my playthrough I didn't get Thesaurus, Soo I just gave her with Flayn's Staff for a added plus one.

I made her a Mortal Savant on my first playthrough (Golden Deer) for memes but switched her over to Gremory later.
In my other three playthroughs for other paths I went out of my way to recruit her for Warp and made her a Gremory every time. I think she's the best Warp user. Compared to Linhardt, she has access to Gremory, which makes her more flexible with magic than she would be as a Bishop, but Linhardt does have Physic which is pretty nice. She also has a better Magic stat than Manuela, generally speaking.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Mekkkah might be selling short a mounted class. The Dark Knight is a very good choice for Lysithea on Golden Deer route. The mistake is thinking it's an either/or choice with Gremory, instead of a competing choice that you swap between for each map.
Dark Knight does seem to have an issue with opportunity cost at first glance. As you said she gets no benefit from mastermind in the classroom and the high riding rank takes time to reach. The lance penalty doesn't help either. But, realistically, professor ranks grow quickly even if you're not playing optimally, and it's not too hard to keep your students fed and happy (or gift bomb them) while training your avatar's own ranks on monastery days. From that perspective the only cost is giving up grinding days, and spacing out any paralogues you play. But even then I almost never do more than one set at a time because tutoring motivation is so valuable, and so quickly spent because of fast professor growth if I'm not renewing it in the monastery. So getting the riding and lances up is just an issue of time, not lost opportunity. Authority, reason, and faith should mostly grow fine on their own after the very early game, reaching where they need to be for any class build. And I have no shame trying a seal on a +60% chance or so.
And the reward of a seven move, eleven range unit with effective damage that - with fast skill acquisition - becomes an eight move, thirteen range unit can't be understated in the late game. You have basically meteor range with Canto, and enough power to delete just about any unit on the map while keeping forward momentum. A lot of those late game maps encourage fast play before dangerous reinforcements show up, and reward player phase action. No mage unit does dark knight as effectively as her, and it's a gift I would hate to give up. That -5% + riding speed penalty does not matter at this point. The only drawback is being reduced to a *mere* one warp, but with the pace of those late game maps even that isn't felt much, especially if playing casually. And given how effective mastermind is at raising her ranks, if you *do* need the double warp, or hell are just playing a desert map, just switch her back for a bit. Master seals aren't that rare or pricey, not once Anna shows up.

Another thing worth noting: Post timeskip, you have *so much* time on your hands to do Aux Battles that you can pretty easily just have Lysithea pass her Cavalier exam (if you've been working towards Dark Knight on her she should probably have sufficient ranks for that at this point, if not Soldier works fine too), equip a lance and the Knowledge Gem, and stick her in an Adjutant slot for an Aux Battle or two. So much for not being able to use Knowledge Gem or Mastermind (p sure that applies too) to raise Lance or Riding :V (and as an added bonus, she might very well pick up Reposition if you use Soldier)
Sure, it takes more work than Gremory would have, but having a 4 (and later 5) range nuke without accuracy penalties, 7 (and later 8) Mov and the ability to just canto in and out of danger was invaluable, in BLions specifically during some of the siege weapon heavy late chapters, and generally for any map with a lot of Snipers.
(putting a Guard Adjutant on her also goes a long way to keep her alive, and can provide some more Hit bonuses from support that can even give her reliable hitrates on Tomebreaker Brawlers)
I think you're overlooking opportunity cost. Lysithea gets everything she needs from Faith/Reason/Authority. The heavy investment you'd need to put into Lance/Riding both slows down her progression in her primary attributes, and robs other units of investment. Dark Knight Lysithea isn't better than giving other units proper investment, especially in a game with Stride.
@@miahmagick Canto turns Lysithea from a unit that can only ever kill the last enemy in a given area bc she gets oneshot if there's something left alive, to a unit that can run into a group of enemies, kill something, and canto out to safety, making her a lot more independent from team support and thus infinitely more flexible for a variety of situations, especially those involving larger enemy groups which only get more frequent on higher difficulties and later in the game.
I also feel that people often overstate the kind of investment she needs to hit Dark Knight. If you've been planning to get it for her from the start, making sure to have her work on that horse rank whenever possible, she should have little trouble hitting the required ranks in time. Sure, maybe you get Dark Spikes or Warp a chapter or two later than you would otherwise, but that's during a much easier portion of the game than the tougher lategame where Canto on your glass cannon is vital to let her contribute without putting herself in danger.
also byleth's tutoring skills are honestly kinda meh and do very little beyond like C rank or so anyways so I think the one person who has to live without it so lysithea can have another horse lesson will be fine

They don't overstate it. You just overvalue wasting resources on a unit that doesn't need it. Also, Warp/Dark Spikes later when Ch. 5 is Warp skippable and Ch. 6 features Dark Knight is a pretty stupid trade to make for a gimmick that doesn't come online until post-timeskip.
Byleth's tutoring skills would do more for you if you focused on primary stat, and wasted less time with Riding/Lances on a unit that doesn't need it.

Time traveler here. There are two new classes that will cause Lysithea to absolutely destroy. We now have Dark Fliers and Valkyries. Both grant her access to Canto, and, depending on preference, you can put her on a Pegasus to ignore terrain, or on a horse to get +1 range and black tomefare. I tried Dark Flier (Flysithea, as I've dubbed it) on a playthrough, and it's extremely strong, and I plan to put Lysithea on a horse in my next run through.

levin swords might get extra range from thyrsus though I haven't tested it, if so it gives lysithea a 5 range option without any additional skills
@@megarotom1590 the only combat art that bypasses vantage is windsweep but enemies almost never use combat arts to begin with. Not that it matters when silver gauntlet war masters can one round lysithea with ease and have so much bulk that she is probably going to need to crit to survive with vantage. Also in maddening late game, most enemies have battalions so that charm stat can be a problem.
I'm 90% sure Thyrsus only works on spells. The range levin sword attack is treated as a normal weapon attack like a javelin as it still checks terrain.

@@megarotom1590 the war masters in BL maddening late game had 65-75 hp and 22-27 res and 32-37 ish AS so... and they all run tomebreaker for good measure.
Great editing! I agree on a lot of what you said. Lysithea, in the beginning, is tricky to use for how terrible her defense is and her limited uses of her base magic is taxing when you're in a bind for another range unit. However, she does have some form of redemption towards the timeskip point and beyond as she would be able to get A hit in before she'll be in trouble. In both my playthroughs of Golden Deer and Blue Lions I have lucked out and got a Lysithea that had a good supply of +def level ups! For now, I shall be in waiting for Petra's video!

Mekkah, awesome content as always. One note is that lysithea can make use of mastermind to collect ranks for things like riding and lances by using her as an adjutant during skirmishes. That's how i got her darting blow and mov +1 in my maddening mode.

I don’t play maddening, but my favorite Lysithea was Falcon Knight with a Levin Sword. Fly her over to some trees, dismount, wait and let Alert Stance do all the work. Lance was hell to rank up, but I save scum all of my promotions so it wasn’t like I was going out of my way. Shame there isn’t a magic lance like there is with the other weapon types.

I have used her in every playthrough and she has been one of my best units. I am going to bring up my maddening experience without ng+ on Black Eagles Route. I actually think bow breaker is excellent on her since with Thyrsus in hand she can clear out bow cavaliers real easy on maps like Nader's Paralouge or Capturing Derdriu. She can do it pretty reliably and with her equipping Dark Spikes she can use it pretty well. I also think vantage is an excellent option on her especially since she usually has the magical mt to one shot most things.
