I'm a new subscriber to your Channel. Thank you for the great idea.. it's exactly what I was looking for. I will look forward to more videos that you offer.
L Track is a great idea to attach items in the garage area, for the bed, my suggestion would be to use wood bed slats available at IKEA that you cut at the bed dimensions, you will get some suspension under the mattress and plenty of ventilation.
Amazing! Great ideas and sweet execution. You’re incredibly talented and your videos are well-done. I can understand your explanations and your audio is clear (not an easy task). Plus they’re pretty short videos, which is always appreciated. Thanks so much for all you’re doing!
Thanks Rich, this is exactly what I needed to find for the pivot joint to build the bed. Love you idea for using the L track to hold the 8020 bed and will use it on my Sprinter 144.
Quality work and quality ideas . I am about to get my van and I will be definitely be using your hard work and knowledge as a guide. Thanks for your contribution.
Great work man. Used 8020 in first build and will continue to use it for the second. I'll also be making a murphy bed Similar to yours. Do you have pics or vid with the mattress installed? Want to know how it folds when bedding is place. Again, great job.
Great video man! I have the same van and ideas! same water tank! I want lots of cargo space for my scooter and bicycle etc..My bed will have wood sluts from ikea and I will use 80/20 3030 series hinge. Airline tracks on the bottom ,maybe at the top too.
One point that is important for those who may want to do something similar to what rich did, make sure you put foam neoprene or another liner between anywhere two points of metal contact each other. If you fail to line any of the 8020 with a foam liner or silicone you will get horrible rattling in your van while you drive. I copied what rich did and I'm having to redo everything and add neoprene foam everywhere to get rid of all the rattling while I drive.
I am working a similar design. How do you secure the two boxes? Mainly by attaching to the 8020 in the wall or do you also have anchor points on the floor? Nice build.
I am thinking to do the same design. My only concern is the 1010 Extruded Aluminum strong enough to hold a person weight? Did you see any bend with the beam?
@@RichBuilt The 8020 10 series has been strong enough to secure the Bluetti on the shelf? I though that I will have to leave my same Bluetti on the floor and chain it to the van wall so it doesn't fly off like a huge cannon ball in an harsh car accident.
Hey this is an awesome build!!! I will do the same build almost exactly. I wanted to know, does the 10 series support weight pretty well? Do you think two people sleeping on this bed would be well supported without the 8020 flexing much? Thanks
The bed I have in mind is similar to your with an additional pivot section, so that a section of the bed folds down on itself to form a seating bench, (the whole thing placed lower of course). I wonder if you looked into the max load of the pivot itself. And, not to get personal, but a 40" bed, so no second person there?
I was going to suggest wood and then hole saw or even forstner bit a bunch for ventilation and to reduce weight while keeping structural strength. But pegboard is an easier idea! Usually not too thick but the 80/20 is a grid pattern which should be enough support.
I want to do a very similar build out like this for my Ram Promaster but might do it with 2X wood instead. Want to know how you ended up securing both your water tank and Bluetti. I have the same tank and Bluetti for my van and am pondering the best way to secure both in the garage. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Hey Doug, to secure the Bluetti AC200 I used 8020 to create a frame and lock it in. Also helps to prevent easy theft of the unit. For the water storage tank, I'm using 8020 L-angles on the bottom to lock it into place against the wall. From there I used an industrial 3M adhesive called dual lock. Hope that helps
Great job dude, I'd use that real thin wood Luan I guess that's what it called real thin ( plywood paneling stuff's) about a 1/8" or so, not sure if you got room to do 1/8" pop rivets in that 80/20 I think that would be pretty light and look good too
I used roughly qty-(12) 8ft sticks of the 10 series aluminum extrusions. Depending on your span and weight restrictions you may want to upsize to the 15 series extrusions. 10 series are lighter and cheaper, but not as strong and don't have as many accessories that allow you to fasten together.
I am 🥰 your build!Cleaver concept for the bed. I want to copy you 😂 Are you for hire? I need help once I get my van. It’s in production right now, maybe ready by summer. I’m glued watching all your video. Your van looks sleek, love it from ceiling to upper cabinets, so excited to see the final product
@@RichBuilt well, when that someday comes around lmk, I’ll fly you down to Houston 😉 or we’ll take a trip to Bay Area. My daughter goes to Berkeley and my sis lives in SF
I think you could get close. You just need to keep in mind not to hit the cabinets overhead when folding the bed up. The dimension was intentional so I can create a electrical closet on one side and plumbing/storage on the other.
@@RichBuiltgreat video! I am going to start a similar Murphy bed in my sprinter. You said you need to add a latch to hold it up while driving. Have you done this already and what parts do you recommend?
I like it! I've been looking into a similar setup where the middle section can be moved out of the way and didn't consider the pivot hinge with brake lever. Good idea! Can the lever be loosened all the way so you can remove the middle section of the bed platform entirely? Also, how has the 10 series been working out for you? Have you found that it's strong enough? I haven't placed my order yet and have been going back and forth between the 10 series and 15 series for my bed platform. Finally, does the L track provide enough support? Thanks!
yup thats correct, you can remove the middle section if you like. 10 series is perfect for me, but I'm only around 160lbs. The L-track has not moved at all, it is held down by 4 bolts and locktite
Can you comment on whether there is any noticeable flex or bounce in the long “gap” section when your full weight is on it? I am considering a similar design but with 15 series
No noticeable deflection with 2 people at about 300 lbs. with 10 series. 15 series will be even more robust! Just remember it’s not 300 lb point load but spread out.
Me too I just ordered $365 worth of aluminum! I built my boxes with wood. Only the frame, and hinge area will be 8020(amazon knockoff) I built my solar rack with extruded aluminum as well! Works perfectly!
I love this van build! Are you planning on towing your S2000 to events and etc? Im currently building a 97 dodge ram cargovan and plan on towing my Starlet in the future.
Cool design. I like that you are keeping some of the utility of the van. That was my intent at first, but keeping my mountain bike and a future e-bike with me became a bigger priority. It reminds me of this design th-cam.com/video/Hmt85eel2O8/w-d-xo.html . This guy has huge counter top space with higher side cabinets below.
Thank you for finding those pivot hinges! Brilliant! I'm stealing your idea....🙂
Great job, Sir.

Been waiting for this !! Had this in my mind and hoping someone has done it !! Thanks man
Glad I could help. Surprised others have not done this also with 8020. There are various hinge types but I think this is the most elegant.
I like your idea so much , so smart keep on going

I am working a similar design. How do you secure the two boxes? Mainly by attaching to the 8020 in the wall or do you also have anchor points on the floor? Nice build.
Thank you. I used plus nuts on the frame of the van walls and drilled holes through the 8020. The boxes were secured using bolts with loctite.
I am thinking to do the same design. My only concern is the 1010 Extruded Aluminum strong enough to hold a person weight? Did you see any bend with the beam?
How have the locking mechanisms held up over time?
To be honest, not that well since its easy to overtighten and damage them. But if you're careful it should be fine
How did you secure the 60+ lbs Bluetti to the frame?
I confined the unit in a tight-fit frame using the 8020.
@@RichBuilt The 8020 10 series has been strong enough to secure the Bluetti on the shelf?

How tall and wide are you water and electrical cabinets
Where did you get the hinges on your Murphy bed,I am also installing Murphy bed on ram promaster 2022
Max, all items are in the description.
1/4 or 1/2 inch finished maple plywood for the bed platform. I will suggest. Thanks
As usual great info and product, keep it up man👍
Exactly what I needed a multi functional bed design✌️
Very nice 👍
you probably have to use L brackets in extruded aluminum, that is definitely something I've been wanting to do on a redo of my bed and my van
Hey this is an awesome build!!! I will do the same build almost exactly. I wanted to know, does the 10 series support weight pretty well? Do you think two people sleeping on this bed would be well supported without the 8020 flexing much? Thanks
Use corrian with circle cut outs to reduce weight

Fits two people. I have 4 pivots and there have been no issues with deflection or over loading. Hard to tell what the limit is but so far so good
Pegboard works great to support a mattress, block heat transfer between the 8020 and mattress and still allow airflow. Home Depot etc. should sell it.

Looking good! If you butt your 8020 right to the water tank and matched that width on the bluetti side, could you get 48" width in the trunk?

@@RichBuilt Thanks, just thinking about laying drywall and plywood flat.
I like the idea. How's it holding up? Anything you'd do differently?
No issues at all. Only thing left to add is a latch up top so I can drive while it's in the open position.

40lbs
So did you order it in 97" chunks and cut them to size? If so what did you use to cut them? Thx man

80/20 cuts super easy with a regular chop saw.

Nice Mikko we play rblx today
Looking great man! Are you happy with the 1010 size 8020? I was thinking about going with the 1515. Thanks
For my size, 1010 didn’t flex once I get the platform on, it will only get stronger. I went with 1010 for weight/space saving.
I would throw wood slats on top of that.
Neat!
How many 97” pieces of 8020 did you use ?
I think 12 sticks
Nice thank you
