    The 14bit readout is only available at frame rates of 30 and under. I shot 4K 24fps yesterday and I was blown away at the amount of dynamic range and overall quality of the image. It’s like the camera switches into a mini ARRI. Absolutely underrated and needs to be discussed more!

      Can the non “S” do the same?

    • @adnan_velic
      @adnan_velic ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@itacatv2146 no it cannot. The 14bit readout mode requires high transfer rates from the sensor to the processor. Since the Xh2s is a stacked sensor it’s able to do that. Gerald never said the non S version can do this I know this for a fact.

    • @adnan_velic
      @adnan_velic ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@EduardoStefanello this is not true. I own both cameras and I have watched Gerald’s review. 4khq is a down sample from 8k. This is not the same as 14bit readout from a sensor.

    I've been really impressed by Fujifilm cameras less the autofocus (I've only used a handful of their cameras, but the images that come out are just so. dang. pretty). It seems like this camera is a huge step forward for them, which is awesome! I don't think I'll sell my main Sony camera, but I would definitely keep this camera in mind if I did.
    As always, thanks for the great review!

    I got mine like a month ago and it’s a really nice option for me. I use a gfx100s for my professional work shooting interior and landscape. I used the x-h2s on a flyfishing video job and it was such a great experience using it. I got big hands so the x-t series always felt a bit small for me. But x-h2s with the deep grip just fits.

    I‘ve owned the X-H2s for almost a month now and it is by far the greatest hybrid camera experience I‘ve ever had. Beats the R6 and the A7IV easily even though they‘re both great cameras. I still can‘t get my head around how Fuji managed to make this camera this great and how much bang for your buck you‘re getting. I don‘t mean like: „Yeah, it‘s great considering its price.“ but more like „What, how is it possible that this thing is sub 3k?“
    It’s simply a great piece of tech.

      well, afaik, you need one of the newer lenses to actually fully benefit the video af improvements (which are still not up to sonycanon, although notably improved, indeed), and those lenses are quite expensive. with a7iv you can have very good af in video (plus tracking, of course) even with a used 50 1.8 at less than $150. you cant get near that with xh2s, so, if you add the price of the adequate lens, its not that affordable in price as it might seem looking at the body alone. i guess this observation is for a fuji newcomer, not a user that already has the lenses and is invested in the system.

    I'm sure this will sound laughable to most professional photographers/videographers, but I love Fuji for how they attempt to retain as much of an analog feel as possible in a digital platform. I get it, that can rapidly turn pretentious and vapid, but I personally, in a subjective way, enjoy shooting both video and photo on Fuji more than any other platform. Their film simulations and dial configurations make it so much more enjoyable to focus on the image in the moment and less on how one can change things later on via editing. Combine that with the specs and price point of this camera, and I can't wait to eventually upgrade from my X-S10. Great review, thanks!

      Fuji customers fanatasism with their "little dials" are what have made Fuji a niche company. The reason for moving towards "Pro style" cameras is because they desparately need new blood. They need people to move from Canon, Nikon and Sony. Other wise Fuji will disappear like many of brands. So it's great that you love your analog feel, but it's like loving your dog so much that you feed in doughnuts all the time - you could kill it.

  • @vincentkeith5259
    @vincentkeith5259 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks, guys.
    I've decided on the X-H2s. I've been looking at reviews of the H2, and it seems to have more problems with autofocus than the H2s - and in reality, the extra pixels don't mean that much. Then, (donning my fireproof suit) there is the infinitely preferable Fully Articulated Screen😎which knocked the X-T5 out of the running for me. I do hope that FujiFilm stays on top of the issues and does some firmware updates. I know people with the X-H2 and X-T5 would very much appreciate it. And improvements wouldn't do this body any harm either.
    So far, the biggest gripes I hear are - Eye Tracking - inconsistency, No selected object tracking, and clumsy ISO setting - although I think that might be "not what I'm used to." Still, the ability to assign ISO to a dial instead of Aperature (which, for most lenses, you have a ring on the lens to handle) - would be a nice improvement and one I would use.
    Add in your video concerns, and it's not a huge list - so if Fuji gets busy, they may really knock this out of the park.

Bought Canon R5's in the end and they deliver exactly what I was wanting. • @gaza4543
      @gaza4543 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your comment is completely none sensical, the sensor is the sensor the read-out is the same whether for video or photography ie the image quality is the same so it's good or it isn't, the only differences being the raw processor lightroom or other (likely) or user error (hummm). It's great you have found your brand but canon is far from sunshine and roses.

    • @nickturpin4288
      @nickturpin4288 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gaza4543 Hmmm where to begin with the display of ignorance in your comment.
      To start with the moving image files are saved as ProRes, the stills are saved as Fuji Raw or Jpg. Its absolutely possible for one to be done well and the other not to be done as well. The stills were noisy and broke up quickly when enlarging, losing their sharpness very quickly in a way that my Canon files do not. The moving image was sharp with good dynamic range and colour. I am very familiar with fuji cameras having used the X-T3 and X-T4 previously. I still use the GFX system for my advertising work. The X-H2S is a great camera but it doesn't have the image quality for the professional work I do.

  • @RM.TokyoPhotographer
    @RM.TokyoPhotographer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I dont shoot video much but this camera will hit the niche for video shooters.....now fujifilm needs to make a camera for photography dedicated something with less pixels (the dynamic range will suffer if pixel count goes too far up on APS-c sensor)....fast reading/shooting experience and a much lighter camera.
    the XT-1->XT->2->XT3->XT4-XT-5 is definitely getting bigger and HEAVIER along with the price....and I wish Fujifilm makes something like the XT3 (the XT3 sold the most if im right throughout the world) due to that compact size tilting screen that doesn't go sideways but up and down (THIS IS IMPORTANT FUJI) ...along with that form factor...its totally a monster...
    photography camera-tilts up and down

    I was waiting for a new release Sony that had fast readout sensor in 2022. Unfortunately it’s not happening. The sensor readout has stayed the same or become slower.
    The A1 unfortunately is pretty pricy.
    I used to have a Fujifilm system as a second camera system, but reluctantly sold it three months ago, so I could just focus on the Sony.
    The X-H2S ticks all the boxes, and I remembered I loved the colors of the pictures I took using Fujifilm X-H1.
    This camera seems to be in the ‘Goldilocks’ zone. I definitely think it’s one of the best hybrid camera so far.
    This was an instant buy!
    And if it turns out to be as good as everyone says, I will get another body, while selling some of Sony gear to fund it.
    I will be using Sony for portraits and landscape, while the X-H2S will be my main system.
    I usually don’t switch systems, but the sensor readout technology for the Sony R series seems to have stalled since the A7R III.
    The X-H2S seems to thread that needle of dynamic range, reasonable file sizes, great color, fast sensor readout, pretty good focus, burst speed and a near comprehensive video set.

      How's AF with the 17-70 on the X-H2S? I find that it's ok on the X-T4, but certainly could be better, especially in video where eye AF would miss or drift off randomly. It seemed ok for stills, but then again I don't do anything more taxing than normal portraiture, a bit of walking shots here and there.

The AF is greatly improved on them all. I`ve always kinda felt like the camera body was the "bottleneck" because of the insane fast AF motors on those lenses. Reggie B. did a AF test a little while ago and I think he found it to be like 30-40% faster than XT4. Also with animal etc focus its really great. I quite like Fuji, and actually own X-T4, but *this review is clearly a kind of favor for Fuji marketing they don't deserve here*
    1). No word on slomo, which turned out being MUCH WORSE in terms of resolution; 2) same garbage video AF, stepping motion, ridicolously cumbersome settings and no tracking (which everybody offers now); 3) same sh**y IBIS not suitable for video AT ALL (I consinder selling my X-T4 for X-T3, as IBIS was the reason to get it over older body, but being nice for photos it's a trash for video use); 4) same problems with stepping af motion; 5) you say "rolling shitter is worse in F-Log 2, but very nice" but why didn't you SHOW it?
    So what's exactly is this camera about? What does it REALLY improve aside of high speed electronic shutter? This would be a fair question, not asked by you here.

Video would be a plus but not a deal breaker with excessive "bells and whistles". I keep coming back to the stacked sensor .. somehow feel regardless of the higher expected resolution .. the advantages of speeding processing and image stabilization mean the X-H2S is the likely winner . Any thoughts from yourself or followers.

You can also get the ninja recorder video package for under 2k. Also, instead of the 50 you can get an 85mm 1.8 for around the same price. I can't tell if the s5 is just a mediocre camera or if I should try upgrading to it from my XT2 for such a good deal. Any thoughts?

      Honestly watch reviews on the S5 and decide for yourself.
      I own a Panny S5 myself and I used it for event shoots, promotion video production and commercial production, I also used it for photo taking both private and for my work.
      Its a really great camera if you acknowledge the very slow autofocus, surprising to me is the autofocus system on the S5 when adjusted is very accurate, its just REALLY slow at getting there, one of the work arounds is that I press the AF button each time I recompose to get the autofocus to stick to the place I am filming that way it wont have to readjust each time on its own which can take a long time.
      The camera itself is also pretty mediocre in terms of sports usage, it can get the job done but there far better cameras for sports shooting made 10 years ago.
      As a hybrid camera its really got no competition, its got amazing IBIS arguably the best of any full frame body, its got video camera levels of control in video mode but also photo level controls in photo mode and a ton of customisation.
      You can shoot 10 bit video, 4k 60p with a crop which if you have the 20-60mm is not that bad, its also got the second best rolling shutter of any camera out there only A7s3 bests it, the S5 has 15ms in 4k60p and 22ms in 4k30p, keep in mind A7IV has 25ms in 4k40p and Canon R6 has 32ms in 4k30p.
      As for build quality the S5 is excellent, its very rugged, feels premium and every button is easy to reach and overall its just a nice camera to hold and use.
      But honestly, if AF is mission critical for you, this is not the camera for you, its AF system is far superior to the Fuji bodies just for the fact that L-mount has modern lenses made with video shooting in mind and not just photo.
      Watch a few reviews on the S5 and decide for yourself, I think its a very underrated camera, I have handled bunch of cameras from bunch of brands in my job, our main video camera is Sony A7s3, and honestly, I think the S5 is better in many ways, the A7s3 feels cheaper made, has ugly colours even for S-LOG that are difficult to fix and a terrible IBIS that we always turn off because its unusable for video.
      Honestly if the S5 had a much better AF system it be a best seller today but its got a nasty reputation just from that one flaw it has. When every other manufacturer at least has 2 or 3 flaws in general.

      @@SMGJohn Really great information, thank you for response! It's really tough to decide because to be honest, what im looking in a camera at this point is one that does almost everything. It doesn't have to be perfect but, one day I get asked to do live football photos and then high school grad pictures, then the next day I want to do some video and try creating and learning how to grow and become a professional. I really do want to bite the bullet and pick up something like an R5 or Z9 but it is so hard to do when you don't have steady work, but you want to one day. I was buying a new camera and it was between this and the a7IV. I went with the a7IV because of the better low light. I part of me regrets it because I like the colours on Fuji so much, but I figure I’ll be keeping this camera for at least 5-6 years. While I’m investing in full frame lenses, Sony can come out with better cameras with less rolling shutter. Plus I can always just use crop mode to match the frame of the Fuji and have less rolling shutter anyway.

    • @bernios3446
      @bernios3446 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you like the Fuji colors so much and plan to keep the system for 5-6 years, you will live with less than optimal colors for all that time? Low light is relative: as soon as you have got more than one person in the frame and want a deeper DOF, you have to stop down the Sony and will loose the ISO advantage (which is a bit over 1 stop).

    • @RandumbTech
      @RandumbTech 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It took me about a month to get my Sony colors looking good. Now that it’s set up properly, it’s a joy to shoot with. @@bernios3446 with cameras at this price point, pretty much nothing will be optimal. Low light might be relative but colours are subjective. Newbie questions:
    Is there such thing as a full frame camera in a APS-C sensor? AKA, is X-H2S a full-frame?
    Also, existing lens for XT-4 ... should fit this new X-H2S camera?

    • @dpreview
      @dpreview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Full-frame is the term used for sensors that match the size of a piece of '35mm' film. APS-C sensors are smaller than this (around 23.5 x 15.6mm, instead of 36 x 24mm), so a camera is either full-frame or APS-C.
      All Fujifilm X-mount cameras use APS-C sensors and all XF lenses fit all X-mount cameras, so any lens that works on the X-T4 will work on the X-H2S.
