    Great coverage and insights. The one thing I would have liked to have seen was a bit more of real world examples - how you usually kit these out, what you have to do to get the job done - the differences between the two in that regard. You sort of covered that but I think getting into that directly would be a real benefit for viewers. Accessory differences, for example. Any difference in audio quality or how you rig for audio with each. Cheers.

    Jordan actually pointed out the same flaws of the XH2S as Kasey did but in less hyperbolic manner. Video AF is good in most parts but can be terrible in others. Slow-mo is just not great. Stabilization can be jerky at times. Overall, it's still the best hybrid camera on the market but if you're purely interested in video there might be a better option depending on your needs.

      @@spanishprisoner not what I meant. If you shoot fast objects and need the best video AF, you will need the A7SIII. If you do MF and shoot a lot of slow-mo, then the GH6 is a great option. If you do a bit of everything plus some photography, the XH2S is the best.

    Both are fantastic cameras, personally I went for the GH6 mainly because of its video tools and lenses (obviously IQ is way better than before) sure the Fuji has more DR and IQ due to the stacked bigger APSC sensor than the M4/3 non stacked sensor on the GH6 but keep in mind that both cameras deal outstanding results if you know what you’re doing with them.
    I’ve gotten fantastic results with a GX85 that has 16mp than others with FF cameras (not bragging or anything like that), so my advice to everyone considering either one is:
    don’t let the “specs” of a camera buy you off, every camera from this “new gen” is fantastic and obviously you’re going to have a good result, just pick the one that makes you happier and comfortable and that’s it, also don’t let negative comments of people who probably haven’t even seen this cameras in person, let alone test them out in multiple escenarios, fool you, they probably don’t know better, so good luck and enjoy ! Great video Jordan 💪🏻

    Panasonic has the XLR-1 adapter, but now Tascam has made XLR adapters for Nikon, Fujifilm, and Canon. I believe the Nikon one really works for all cameras that only have traditional analog 3.5mm inputs. So, that's a great equalizer for audio.

    • @VoicesofMusic
      @VoicesofMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is not a popular point of view, but the XLR doesn't really matter as much as the internal, uninsulated ribbons that carry the sound. Any properly designed connector will work fine, and in a stress environment you would want a locking connector anyway. The Lumix cameras have decently wide traces, haven't opened up a Fuji.

    Thanks for doing this. Going forward, do you think you could do more video-centric reviews of hybrid cameras? I understand that you and Chris are a team and so wouldn't mind having separate videos for photo and video capabilities, especially of the models with which you've had more experience in handling than just the initial product launch review. Things like interbrand lens usage/performance looks good on paper on m4/3, but in practice Olympus and Panasonic lenses are not as co-operative on each others bodies - stuff that marketing info does not advertise when showcasing a product, but an avid user like yourself would pickup on when working with the camera.

    We’ve had quite a few Fujifilm cameras over the past decade here in our studio. Both X and GFX. Though I love their handling and primes for stills, I must say that we’ve had more reliability issues with Fuji than with any other camera brand. As for video, none of the Fuji XF and GF lenses are great for video, except perhaps their upcoming 18-120. With Panasonic however, their Leica Vario-Summilux 10-25 and 25-50 f1.7 as well as their Vario-Elmarit 50-200 are superb and generally all you’ll ever need. Combine that with Panasonics legendary build quality and there’s my clear preference…

    • @razznote7586
      @razznote7586 ปีที่แล้ว

      Except you are talking about the previous Fujifilm cameras and somewhat ambiguous reliability issues, that may have been fixed long ago. Fujifilm has an also equally legendary build quality. It is more of a personal preference which I respect, but downgrading something based on personal preference, and generalizing based on it that Fuji products in general are bad (while saying Panasonic are great). Based on the review, the XH2S has merits that people would choose over the GH6. Just wanted to react, as the reliability issues that you mentioned have put the new camera in a bad light, as if the better quality of the camera being reviewed would be overlooked.

    • @jacobh5817
      @jacobh5817 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@razznote7586 In my view I’ve made it very clear that these are personal experiences and a personal preference. I’m not saying that Fuji cameras are generally bad, just that we had more reliability issues than with other brands we use. Just for this case I digged into my memory. Between 2012 and 2021 we’ve had a total of 13 Fuji cameras (8 X-series and 5 GFX) and 19 lenses (13 XF and 6 GF). Between 2015 and 2020 we’ve also used them professionally for our fashion and beauty photography work. Of the 13 cameras, 5 were either replaced or in need of repair shortly after purchase. All under warranty and due to construction failures. Of the 19 lenses, 7 needed replacement or repair. A few right out of the box and some after short usage. We’re using Hasselblad, Canon (until 2016) Nikon, Panasonic and Leica (mostly personal) and we’ve never seen such a high repair %. On one occassion I even had to redo a half day shoot. It’s not just with older Fuji cameras. In fact, most issues were probably caused by failing quality assurance and most issues came with the bodies manufatured in China and lenses made in the Philipines. So basically after 2017. We’ve had less issues with GFX and GF products (all made in Japan) and my personal X-Pro2 (also made in Japan). Now, I know that many owners enjoy their Fuji cameras, but I personally have become hesitant for professional use.

    X-mount has some really nice Sigma primes and Tamron came out with a good zoom option, but other than that its really dry lake for lightweight and modern lenses, I feel Fuji is stuck in the past when it comes to updating their lenses which are BADLY needed.
    Very few systems still match the Samsung 16-50mm F2-2.8 which was not only weather resistant, it also was made for video and photo and had OIS built into it, a lens like that needs to be looked at by others and copied because it was a beast for what it did.

This would be more helpful for comparisons. 10:28 Sure the X-H2S battery lasts a lot longer than the Panasonic internal battery, but what you didn't mention and should have, is that you can use USB-C batteries with the GH6 and If you do that you could potentially use it for as long as you need to and not run out of battery life.

    U forget about open gate, price of lens and gear. Both cam is awesome, but price/quality - gh6 win. If u wanna anamorphic lens - gh6 with open gate win. If u wanna social media and vertical video gh6 win. Slowmo - food or sport gh6 win. TH-cam or photo - fuji win. Wedding - gh6 win. Small budget cinema - gh6 win, cause manual focus and u work with light no problem with dinamic range. I think it's strange review... Spec of camera doesn't matter before u don't know what r u shoot.

  • @TravelCameraKit

    The DPReview Raw Dynamic Range Exposure comparison isn't fair at in that the GH6 is NOT an ISO invariant camera. Even 5 year old Panasonic GX850 would blow away the GH6 in this respect. For photography, you MUST expose the files properly and not expose 5 stops under and raise it in post.

    Pity that you don't attach weights to each cattegory. It would be like: other categories gets 1-10x and the lens lineup gets 100x. Seriously, lens options is so much more important than antyting else. Although, granted, as a GH6 user I am SO PISSED OFF about number of limitations with this camera. Also... Pricepoint is not exactly the same. To be able to compare these two you really need a fan for X-H2S which get you $2698 total. That is $500 more...

    • @problemat1que
      @problemat1que 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless you shoot open gate 6k or slow motion all day in the midday sun you don't need the fan. You probably will need it to shoot 8k on the X-H2 but that wasn't discussed in this video.

    • @Subyspecialist
      @Subyspecialist 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fan is absolutely unnecessary in all but the most extreme conditions, there is a standard and high heat shutoff setting in XH2S just like Sony. Set to high I haven’t had any warnings yet shooting a spectrum of different frame rates including 4k120.

      @@Subyspecialist Is recording outdoor concert in summer in 6K open gate or 6K 50p an extreme condition? If so, than I need a fan, even if just in case. If you don't need it, don't buy it. Fuji X-H2S is better than GH6, but it just so happen that I have a lot of great m43 glass.

    • @Subyspecialist
      @Subyspecialist 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@przybylskipawel XH2S doesn’t shoot 6k50. 6k goes up to 30p. Nonetheless my point is most people won’t need the fan, in your use case I would prob get it as I would say yes that is an extreme use case. I very much like certain things about the GH6 and considered getting one, but already was in the Fuji ecosystem and found the Xh2s to be a better fit overall for my needs.

    The GH6 is really only at XT-3 level or XT-4. The DR Boost is good but not in every case, the raw image from the XT-3/4 will still be better since XH2S is practically no different.
    AF is still much better than GH6.
    It comes down the MFT sensor tech falling behind, they have to implement all sorts of tricks to keep the image competitive. I think GH6 has worse DR than GH5 when DRBoost is off (Source: The DPJourney, I think?)
    Plus the XT-3/4/XH2S are much much better for photography (Source: The Hybrid Shooter).
    Personally I've gone with Sony APSC A6100 (I was going for XE-4, but Fuji suddenly increased it's price here in India).
    APSC is a very good middle ground compared to full frame where the lenses get quite big for the zooms and some primes.

      Not true considering that you can adapt and also that Panasonic will not release new lenses for m43. Meanwhile Fuji is releasing LM f/1.4 lenses and will continue to do so. Fuji has a future, m43 does not.

    • @imagenatura
      @imagenatura 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@davidm5790 Well, the facts say otherwise: Panasonic 9mm f/1.7, OMDS 40-150 f/4 PRO, OMDS 20mm f/1.4 PRO and there are more on the roadmap , not to mention how many 3rd-party lenses there are. Given Fuji''s earnings and economic troubles, I'd say the opposite is true. Also, there are no other companies making bodies for the x-mount. There are several for the vast M43 mount. The problem for M43 is that there are so many great lenses that any money needs to primarily be made on the bodies. Fuji has yet to release 5 lenses that work properly in video AF.

    • @imagenatura
      @imagenatura 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@djstuc The video was rather clear. Jordan had to drag up the Pany 20mm f/1.7 from 2009 to find a "bad" AF lens for video. It's a pretty low bar. Watch what P. Bloom says about it- not just an isolated commenter.

Please tell me the other companies that are making bodies for x-mount... sometimes it's better to just put your head in the sand regarding the subject. I was referring to Fuji's imaging business troubles, not the company as a whole. They ARE in trouble, but we'll never know because it was absorbed into another division and they don't need to report their earning from the "imaging" part of the business anymore- a clever way to hide things. If you're happy shooting with them, continue on by all means!

    I was killing myself jumping between the two when making my purchase. I have a GH5, BMPCC4K, X-T3, and X-T4. I had the X-T2 and X-H1. I also had a G7, G85, and GH4. So I have a shit ton of lenses for each. But I wanted to try and minimize my gear. I decided that which ever one I went with , the GH6 or X-H2S, I was going to sell my other platform.
    In the end I chose the Fuji since I do about 60% photography, and for plenty of my photography I need good eye autofocus. I was using an X-T3 and X-T4 combo for some shoots, and then one of those for other shoots where I only needed one camera.
    This one was tough, because I LOVE my GH5 and really wanted the GH6. But as a photo tool, it made me look elsewhere.
    So far I’m loving the X-H2S, but I do miss some of the features that are on the GH5 and GH6.
