    You lifted the seal and put the clip in.
    But the edge of the seal is still open to water dust etc.
    Need a good marine grade sealant under the pads

    Fabulous video
    Really answered all my questions except
    The skis
    I’m guessing you can strap a couple sets of skis up there
    Also looks like a pretty permanent upgrade
    I’m still debating between roof rack vs trailer hitch bike rack
    Thank you just the same
    Great tutorial video

      100% roof rack. I have the bike mount as well as board mount (like in this video). I’ve had 2 Yakima bike mounts on the roof and would take that all day over a trailer.

    I made the mistake of thinking the hook has to go in above the gasket. The instruction manual isn't clear. But I see in your video that it goes underneath. However, the separator clip tool is a bit too short to allow the full length of the hook with screw to be placed against it, so I had to use two screwdrivers to hold the gasket up while I slipped the hook underneath the gasket.
    Thanks for making that clear in the video.

    Loved the video and your Tesla Model S review as well! I’m taking my RE course right now and will be getting my license in November. I’m a Tesla fanboy and definitely plan on getting the S. Probably going to spend the day watching more of your videos! They are well put together and entertaining. Could you make a video explaining more on the leasing aspect of the car? I’d really love to know more about that process! Thanks

    I was very excited to get a Model X but the lack of roof rack options due to the door is making me rethink it. Turns out I think the Model S might be a better SUV like vehicle due to the roof rack options.

    • @SpaceCoastShane
      @SpaceCoastShane  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find the storage in the Model S to be comparable with smaller SUVs. Add the roof rack and it's a no brainer.

    Spraying the "Gasket" with quality Silicone Spray prior would make things much easier.

    I installed this roof rack on my 2020 S today but when I attempted to attach my old Thule cargo carrier I was not able to make it fit, needed about another 1/4 t 1/2 inch more room to fit it on the racks. Damn. Went to REI tonight thinking my old carrier was likely updated for the forks to go around the racks. Bought a Yakima cargo carrier and the REI guy and I took it out to the S to fit it on. WRONG, didn't fit, the Tesla racks were again to far apart by about an inch. I watched your video and while I set the bolts right on the arrows, you showed that there was some leeway within the bracket under the glass roof. I reset them and front and back both added about 1/4 each toward the center of the car. I think this will work. I need another hand to get the carrier on board and will check in tomorrow and let you know if I've worked around the issue. Damn, this shouldn't have happened. I mean and inch or two makes no difference to the S so why not add the flex in the rack?

    I believe Tesla states that the roof rack loading limitation is 150 pounds total. Not sure that standing on the rack on your surf board makes the most sense! Probably cracked roof glass, an expensive repair proposition, is the reason why they set the limits...
    Otherwise, fantastic demonstration! Thanks!

    Soooo, I did this today, and chipped the glass which also cracked the glass in between the double Paine while attempting to insert the last mount. 😡🤬. Im afraid to even ask how much a replacement is going to be. I’m not going to worry about it right now until I need to worry about it. SO MAD!!

    I'm an investor in SA TX, not a realtor but thinking about going that route. I also have a Tesla Model S P100DL! Lol what would you say is the most difficult part of being a NEW REALTOR? Or maybe you can make a separate video speaking to that?

    Hey Shane, great video. I’m considering adding these on my Plaid. I know this is a vague question, but could you possibly elaborate more on how much noise there is? A few thoughts: at what speed do you notice the noise? Have you had racks on other cars and if so are these on par or quieter? Do you find it hard to talk at 85MPH inside the car? Anything else you can think of would be most appreciate. Great looking Model S!

    • @SpaceCoastShane
      @SpaceCoastShane  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great questions! The noise was most noticable at speeds of 75+ MPH. The interior cabin is very quiet due to the noise cancellation, but you could still hear the racks at higher speeds. I still have them on to this day and hardly notice the noise anymore.
      When adding my surfboard, it is obviously louder, but not bad.
      At speeds of 85 MPH I could still conduct phone calls (do all the time) and I am very happy with how quiet the cabin is overall.

    Nice and helpful video. Do you have any idea of how much drag (loss of range) this roof rack causes with NOTHING on it?

    • @SpaceCoastShane
      @SpaceCoastShane  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! I unfortunately do not know how much drag it creates, but based on the noise it creates I can't imagine much.

      @@SpaceCoastShane Thanks for your fast response. I just ordered a roof rack to transport similar stuff on top of my Tesla Model 3 long rang. So I assume your video would very helpful for me to install it. I also drive long distances so knowing the additional drag is critical information ℹ️ for me given that my 100% battery range is now only 286 miles (new was 310 miles). I have a 2019 Model 3.

    I am considering purchasing this for my upcoming model S, but I foresee wanting to take the roof rack off in between surfing trips (once per month, say). I saw how long it took you to install one piece and skip over the others, and I was nervous for you damaging the pain at each step. do you think it will be practical to remove it monthly and how likely will I do damage if I have a wrap?

    • @SpaceCoastShane

      I have not removed it since installing (2-3 years ago). Would not advise.

    Mine is a 2015 S and they no longer (Tesla) make the rack for my car. Apparently, the rack for your car can fit mine with an "adapter". I would rather get a set of original racks for my car. Any suggestions (I surf too)?

    • @SpaceCoastShane
      @SpaceCoastShane  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! If it was me, I would looking on Ebay for an OG rack and if no avail, then I would settle for the updated version. The updated version is manufactured by Yakima (big fan) and do like the sleekness. Depending on what the "adapter" looks like, it might sway my decision and I would prioritize the updated version over the OG.
