I'm a Tesla Model S owner f 6 years and looking to upgrade later this year. I'm looking closely at Rivian. I have to admit, however, that I am extremely opposed to having to use a cell phone to gain access to my vehicle, unless it automatically sense my approach and pops the door handle out for immediate access. This is probably especially of importance to a female drive who needs to quickly access her vehicle to avoid danger!

but it just isn't cool is it. why do they make these vehicles with no swag?

I also switched from a Model S to the new R1S. I am very happy with the switch. It feels so much better built and the ride is better.

Awesome vid! Thank you for doing this! I’m heavily considering a rivi for my next vehicle. I was surprised to read that the most recent vehicle reliability testing by Consumer Reports said rivi ranked #24 or #23 and Tesla ranked #17 I believe. I assume no issues thus far???

I have a 2025 RIT Tri and they do have proximity locking and unlocking. You don't have to use the app. The issue is it takes a few more seconds to wake up which sometimes can be annoying. My RIT is exactly like your Tri. All black edition which I love!

Im looking at a 21 model s. First time going electric. Should I be as worried or concerned about high mileage 70-90k as I would be for a gas powered car?

"Interior is wrapped with vegan leather" . We used to call this genuine naugahide, AKA vinyl. 😂 So car manufacturers are making a pitch that a product derived from a non renewable source is greener or better and more luxurious than Leather? Wow amazing.

I was between the R1S and a Model S Plaid last year. I still love the lines and storage capacity of the R1S, but the lackluster sound system, and lack of Apple CarPlay makes me feel like I'll be happy with my Plaid fora little while longer. I'm pulling for Rivian though. I really like some of their design choices. Maybe in a year or two I'll revisit them. Thanks for the great review!

I don't like the look of the frontend but the rest of the car is great.

Rivian R1S is on my short list to replace my Tesla Model X

I love this truck, I just did a demo ride this weekend. I was really impressed. Really my first time driving an EV, I love all of the features. It’s just so damn expensive. Really nice review and your truck is absolutely beautiful. I love the blacked out aesthetic.

Third row has USB-C (and storage) under the armrest on either side.

You know the 3rd row armrest pops up and has chargers in there right? 🤣 So many people miss that for some reason. Unless they got rid of that feature recently like the compartments below the driver and passenger seat that was meant to replace the glove box.

The update as you know now in mid-late December added much better ADAS for highway driving and added Sirius, TH-cam and GoogleCast for streaming opportunities. So many of the negatives are now not negatives, or at least improvements. Welcome to Rivian.

When you add your CC to the Rivian app, you don’t need to download the Tesla app. It’s fully integrated. Just plug it in and you are good to go 👍🏼

Grear review. I sold my Tesla 6 months ago. The voice recognition was terrible.

I have a Model S and am on the fence about getting a cybertruck or the R1T for the Canadian winters, so you coming from a Tesla caught my attention. I love my Autopilot and was interested in your comments about the Highway Assist not being available on what looked like a major road. That would be a dealbreaker for me, but I understand Rivian will be coming out with "Enhanced Highway Assist" in January, 2025. I guess I will have to wait for you to review that when you get your download.

Nice review, I recently switched from a Plaid to the 25 Gen2 R1S. I honestly wasn’t sure if I would like it at all but now love my R1S. Only thing I didn’t like was the sound system which I had fully replaced and customized, which is now perfect. Enjoy your ride!

Great review. Totally agree with your pros/cons. I’ve had tri motor max pack for a month on the same tire/wheel spec as you, previously was in the R1T on the 20inch AT tires. I'm getting terrible highway efficiency in all purpose, averaging 1.5-1.6 mi/kwh at 75 mph. Curious how that compares for you…what’s your average efficiency on highway?

I much prefer the Rivian interiors over the bland interiors in Tesla vehicles so I agree with you there. I also like having the stocks and horn in the middle of the steering wheel vs a tiny little button. When I need to honk the horn quickly I feel it's best in the traditional location. I also don't like haptic buttons and think they look and feel cheap. I really like the side equipment tunnel and foot step which acts like a seat and step when getting into the back of the box in the trucks. The air compressor is a nice touch along with the rechargeable speaker and flashlight. Little extras like these help add value. The ability to make the roof window go opaque is a cool and functional appreciated touch. I wouldn't like the sun constantly glaring in on me all the time when driving or sitting in my vehicle. Seems Rivian has really stepped up their game on the Gen 2 vehicles which is nice to see. I'm impressed with the brand and if I didn't need to pull a big heavy RV in the Summer I'd probably go for this same R1S myself.

All this vehicle is a glorified golf cart. Try running one of these in Chicago in the middle of February. Look up the story last year in Chicago when several electric cars were stuck in the cold. Just a toy for Viera people to show off. Just pay off your student loans.

Sad there is no CarPlay. Just like Tesla.

Love the in depth video. Watching you leaning against the front of the car to reach into the frunk is exactly why I wish Rivian would adopt the much better designed frunk that my F150 Lightning has. If you live anywhere with weather, like we do in Colorado, the front of the car is usually covered in mud and dirt much of the year. With my Lightning, the front opens up with the hood, so you can easily reach in without having to get close and reach UP and over into the frunk. I end up using my frunk ALL the time because it is huge and so easy to access. This is really one of the few things that I think is so much better thought out by Ford than Rivian. I’d still consider the Rivian but just wish they would think this one through.
