1. Gillette Mach 3
Over the years, I probably spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on Gillette products. I get a mediocre shave until I discovered the double edge razor.
2. Bike Rack
We probably used it three times and never thereafter because we just bike locally and so I sold it at a garage sale at a big loss.
3. Hawaiian Jacket
There was this polo jacket that had a light background and flowery big paisleys. I think, at the time, it was marked down 90 or 95 percent and I just bought it for 40 bucks or whatever but I wore it a whopping zero times.
4. Bosch microwave
We paid $800 for that thing and it broke down and was complete garbage two days after the warranty expired.
5. White suit with a mao collar
It was in 2002, it was for my high school graduation. I wanted to be different and I thought it was this cool suit on eBay that I bought probably for a hundred bucks!
6. Cashmere socks
I realized because they were so smooth, they were also more prone to slip down my calves and so they would always hang around my ankles.
7. One size fits it all socks
They're sometimes quite tight around my calves and so at the end of the day, I would take them off and I would have these huge strong marks in my skin and it sometimes hurt because it just didn't fit my foot right.
8. Steadicam equipment
Back in the day, you could buy what was called a Steadicam which had weights that helped you balance so you had a more smoother picture. Now, it takes a bit of practice to use and it's quite heavy so I think I bought three different Steadicams and we used exactly zero of them.
9. Green duffle coat
I thought it was kind of cool to have a different color that was bolder. I didn't have a duffle coat with a hood so I thought zero times. Maybe this winter, who knows? Well, I doubt it!
10. College education
I went to law school in Germany and US. Overall, it cost a lot of money and I never worked in law for a single day in my life because it sucks and I hate it.
11. Rimowa suitcases
I met Teresa, my wife, at a Halloween party in 2006 but I didn't move to the US until 2009. So those three years, I traveled quite a bit and I bought a Rimowa suitcase. Sure enough, after the first trip, it was broken.
12. Crewneck sweaters
Especially in high school, that's pretty much all I knew and the problem with them is they're usually so tight that if you wear a shirt or tie under them, it just covers up everything and it's completely pointless.
13. Short-sleeved dress shirts
When I was a teenager, I thought it was cool to have them but ultimately, it's just a bad investment because you can't wear them with a tie.
14. All-inclusive trip to China
The hotels that company chose were really bad, they were outside of the city center, oftentimes, they were no smoking hotels but you can find burn spots all over the place or just a spot of someone threw over their coke but hey, they had jeans flavored condom in their hotel room, isn't that great?
15. Bold accessories
I remember once buying a pocket square with a vivid blue and an orange hand rolled edge.
16. Online courses
I once spent money on an online course about Adwords and to this day, neither me nor any of my employees have actually taken it. It's just a complete waste of money.
17. Ill-fitting gloves
I remember my very first pair of peccary gloves was from a German brand called Roeckl.
18. Room & Board furniture
Room & Board is a furniture brand that is local and because of that, they have an outlet here that's rather popular with Millennials.
19. Burberry cashmere scarf
I couldn't really tie it. The only way to wear it was throwing it around my neck in one way but that wasn't quite warm and it also kind of blew off when the wind came.
20. Dinner at Cosme, New York
I searched this list about the 50 best restaurants in the world and on 23 was Cosme in New York. One dish was listed as a main course and it was a mole sauce dish. It came as a main course, it was a small plate of sauce with some corn tortillas and a few sprouts and that was it. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต

The suit I wore to prom. One of those moments where you ask yourself how adults can go shopping with you and let you make such a blatantly terrible decision. There was no Gentlemen's Gazette in those days, haha
My experience is that the adults usually tried to dissuade me, but I just wouldn't listen.

The things I regret buying are the hundreds of dress shirts I've bought over the years, thousands of dollars worth, all of which were worthless, when I could've spent a hundred here and there on a custom, well made shirt that would last.
Been there, done that. I think most men have done this at some point. Feels a bit better to think about that, even though it doesn’t bring back my money...

I regret buying my first tie, my first tie was a skinny black tie. I thought a black tie was the first tie a man should own but i have hardly ever worn it. Also it was hard to tie a good looking knot because of how skinny it was.

I don’t have a problem with thin ties, you can see them in classic menswear from like 1900-1935 too. Part of my hatred for wide ties is probably my school uniform tie is a 4.75 inch polyester lobster bib.

I'm with you on the fancy restaurants too. I really love my food, but so many times I've been to a really high rated restaurant and actually just found them to be really over priced, pretentious and the food is never particularly good.

For me my biggest buyers remorse item is my 70s polyester suit. I bought it vintage online and was disappointed that I had bought a suit that was basicly worthless(I really despise artificial materials). I ended up giving it to a friend who was willing to take it off my hands.
Hotels in China (or anywhere else) that supply condoms are not “hotels”. 🤪

@@dandiehm8414 Or some American who created the offer via the internet, and never actually saw it in person, that's also a general practice (I worked at a travel agency for 5 years, and it was a common joke about some of our partner offices who did the same and made some terrible mistakes for this reason). Best thing to do is to go to a real specialist agent focused at your destination. Best sign is if they speak the language used there.
@@dandiehm8414 He did say that it was a cheap "all inclusive deal". Having personally visited many places of China, I can guarantee you that if you book a reasonable hotel yourself, it is just as good as any hotel in other countries. Just never trust "all inclusive deals".

It’s not easy being Green!
With regards to fine dining, the moment I got quite skillful at cooking (thanks to a certain rat being my childhood inspiration), I do not eat at restaurants much. Some high-end restaurants truly offer a startling experience and I have treamendous respect for the chefs´ work. However, when I do opt for the occasional restaurant visit, I like when the ambience is not too sterile, which is mostly the case with said establishments. Do not get me wrong, the establishment itself is not the problem, but it is usually the guests who tend to ruin my experience (such as their treatment of the staff). In my opinion, honest food served in moderate portions, polite staff and guests and balanced ambient atmosphere beats anything.

Totally Brasilian looking. I get a kick out of him saying he is German. I know very stereotypical way of thinking but I lived in Germany in college... Reminds me of my nephew who is half German but luckily does not look it! 😜

Absolutely spot on in regard to Room & Board furniture. I too made the mistake of purchasing a sofa from them in the 00's. As with your experience, the cushions didn't hold up well at all even with very light use, and it had an awkward support beam in the middle that made lying on it horribly uncomfortable.

Absolutely love your Green Duffle Coat. Actually enjoy wearing primary bright colors. Works for me. Disagree about Rimowa Luggage. Rimowa and Vintage Hartmann Bags are the only bags that have ever really held up in my travels. Also agree I am not a Burberry fan. Find their fabrics in general feel different, Lean towards Lori Pinana Cashmere.

Gosh, there are so many items I regret buying. A lot of them are shoes, both expensive and inexpensive, which I wore a few times and sometimes never. Clothes of course, bought a lot of trendy clothes or clothes that did not quite fit me because they were cheap. Also I bought a lot of handbags which were almost never used. But I learned from this and I don't waste money on clothes, shoes or accessories the way I used to.
You've used that green duffel coat in other videos as an example of something good! I remember seeing it and thinking that I would never buy something like that. Glad to see I was right! ;) My biggest examples of buyers remorse are a couple of suits that I got from a direct-to-consumer website called tweedmaker. They were having a sale, I liked the look of the suits, they were very inexpensive for custom suits, so I ordered two. When I got them, they didn't fit well, they draped horribly, and they were just really cheaply made. I could have bought one much nicer suit for the price that I bought those.

digital cameras; Fuji, Nikon, Panasonic - their charging pins Always break, they're never compatible with your laptop, they all take different memory cards AND the batteries only last six months!!😠 On the other hand; I have a 20y.o. Kodak that takes AA batteries that only cosr me $40 and it Still works 😀💕👍👍

When I first started getting into menswear, I wanted to buy an outfit that was unique and I didn't really know how to match colour at the time, so I bought a black and navy blue check jacket with black pants... needless to say I wore it a few times but after that I just stoppd 😂

As a designer, I've never had a problem with furniture from Room & Board. Has always been high quality and it's made in America, which means something these days. Would definitely highly recommend it, unlike a certain other big-name brand that has huge stores filled with lots of white furniture, all of it made in China and prone to failure.
AGREED on Room and Board furniture. Bought a rug, a sofa, and a chair from them. They all fell apart within a few years, and support from the store was terrible!
One of your better vids. Thank you. On a trip to Mexico, I bought a pair of snakeskin boots for $400 that looked great but never fit right. I wore them all of three times before unloading them on eBay for a fraction of their cost.
most lesser priced camera's have stabilization built in. Take for example the Canon series. I know you like Nikon (so do I) but with a lesser type canon camera with video, the stabilization is remarkable. I can shake the camera and you won't notice it in the video. People think I used a tripod to get the video I get. Give it a try. The canon I use is model: Powershot SX510 HS. For regular pictures, I use the canon mentioned earlier for quick shots, or a SONY NEX-5R with adapters to accommodate Minolta / Nikon Lens's for a more professional setting.
When I first viewed your channel, I felt your outfits were a bit outdated, but over the months came to realize that you do have a very sharp and dapper way of dressing which appeals to me. Being short, finding things to fit was a challenge especially in the classical departments. All my shirts and pants have to be tailored to fit. Thanks for a very interesting and informative channel. So far I've agreed with your 'what not to buy' and 'what not to wear' 100% spot on.
I agree that crew neck sweaters go badly with dress shirts. Problem is, I’m not a fan of V-neck. So I have concluded that sweaters and shirts don’t go well together. So I wear them separately.

Can’t say I have any major regrets as I’ve been able to work with some basics and get a good start to experiment with. Once I can afford more expensive pieces like shirts, and shoes, I’ll replace what I have, but I feel like what I have right now, works well for what it is, and is helping aid me in learning what works well, what doesn’t and how pair things together

Great channel! Don't get me started on Rimowa. I bought one several years ago and had repeated problems with accidentally changing the lock combination. My style of packing and unpacking is the complete opposite of the "logical German" way, my mind being driven in a thousand directions with a thousand distractions. And somehow on more than one occasion I double-bumped that horrible little button and goodbye combination. That Rimowa is now collecting dust in my attic.
I actually like that pocket square and have similar ones. I am not a clean cut Euro suit guy, but rather a blazer / sport coat person with contrast pants or jeans and wingtip or monk strap shoes with colorful ascot and pocket squares. I love that way and I always get compliments for being unique in my way.

Oh well, I have the RL dark green version of your duffle coat. The length is below my knees. It is the warmest coat that I have ever owned. Every time that I wear it I get compliments.

I completely agree with regards to bold accessories; I bought a Pink-Fuchsia knit tie from Drake's and I only wore it once. It's very nice but it's a bit too loud for my taste now.

You are right about appliances. Let’s say you want to get your stainless steel stove, range hood, microwave, fridge and dish washer to match. They are not going to match exactly when sold under the same name.
With regard to crew neck sweaters, I believe that you need to look for ones that are not cut too high. When the collar is set lower, you can see the collar of the shirt underneath. I agree that most of the time, you can’t make out the tie when wearing a crew neck.
When I was first getting into dressing better I bought a handful of button collar shirts without the exact neck size only because they were on sale. After buying them I quickly realized how important neck sizes were and have a bunch of shirts that I cannot really wear.
Small note: if you are going to go to a Michelin star chef's restaurant, if it is in any way an option, always, always, always get the tasting, chef's menu, 'chef's experience' or however they market it, with the wine pairings - indeed, one of the best one's I had in France was merely labeled the 'prix fixe'.
Any given dish you might not be in love with, but a half dozen or 10 removes allows them to show off both real art and skill. The best experiences are very much like a Symphony, with a returning to themes and variations over courses, in color, flavor, textures. About the only caveat is generally the whole table are to be served the same, but they will usually (invariably in my experience, but who knows) let you split the wine pairing with your spouse/date. Also, allergies or strong distastes can be dealt with (almost invariably).
If there is a wine you don't particularly like, you are free to ask for another - but beware! Things that seem a little questionable may very well bring out qualities when paired with the course that are the product of the insane genius that marks a world-class sommelier and chef team. Some of these people are out of their minds, using flavor and texture combinations that you think couldn't possibly work - and while _sometimes_ they don't, often times they really do.
Depending on the number of courses, you should make sure to leave at least 2 hours, and often upwards of 3. I've had multiple meals where I literally had no idea that 3+ hours had passed. Also, starting with an early dinner is generally a little better, if that's an option.

Rafa, you're hilarious! I regret buying a 2001 Toyota 4Runner for $3,000. It looked to be in relatively good condition, and although the price seemed too good to be true, I disregarded my gut feeling and purchased it. Soon after buying it, it started giving me problems and I had to have the rear differential replaced. Over a couple years it just became a money pit. It's true, you get what you pay for.
I regret buying a Prada suit when I was 20, naively thinking it would be an investment for life, not realizing how much I would grow in width over the years... wore the suit exactly once and it’s been sitting in my closet for the past 8 years...
I have that same polo jacket. I've worn it a few times on beach vacations. But I could lose it and not care. I also work for one of the companies who's product failed you. So this video was a little close to home.
Luggage-wise, I recommend Columbia Sportswear! They have some outlet stores around the US and it still wasn't super cheap, but was completely worth it, high quality.

Enjoyable video, as always. Here’s a tip, buy a larger size of crew neck jumper. Your jumpers are too small. That green duffle jacket is great, but you have to be the right person for the jacket. Wear it with attitude!

I feel so bad for your terrible trip in China. These all-inclusive trip planning companies really try their best to squeeze every bit of profit and it almost never works well for the consumer.
Regret buying my 2011 mustang without heated seats. I was only 20 at the time so money was somewhat tight but never go cheap when it comes to this option! The winters are a nightmare!!
Same experience with the Rimowa. And now use a Samsonite as well with zero issues.

I once bought a wool evening jacket the same colour as that duffle coat, and the one time I wore it, I felt like a holiday camp compare from the fifties or sixties, a really nice jacket, very comfortable but, I never wore it again...

I can see buying the green duffle coat. I play it safe with overcoats in black or charcoal because they go with everything I own, and I am wearing them for business. If I had bought a bright green duffle coat, I would try to get some wear out of it on Sundays or when running errands during the week.
