    I'd definitely recommend taking combination locks for the block, if the screws find your keys STAND BY! I would also hide the baby wipes as they don't like you using until your final exercise

    1 - Wear your goretex! Full goretex even if it's sunny it shows initiative that you are ready for the rain.
    2 - Stop water pooling in dry bags by cutting a hole in the bottom to let any water drain out.
    3 - Dress for the job you want not the job you have, so buy SAS patches or para wings and sew them on of a night

    It’s been awhile since I did basic but I’d recommend taking tin foil. If they’re still using hexamine cookers then wrap your mess tin with foil and it keeps the black stuff off

      Won't that reflect the heat away and make boiling slower? We used to rub soap on our dixies before using hexi tabs to make it easier to clean them. Works well.

    Hi Sam, im currently awaiting a date for my A.C day. I found your channel last week and just wanted to say your videos are fantastic, clear and concise info which is well presented. Certainly put my mind to rest regarding the fitness, being a smoker (trying to quit) and older than most candidates I was a bit concerned I would be smoked (no pun intended) by all the youngsters, but now much more comfortable about that. Its just the technical selection test I'm focusing on and worried about (want to join the engineers) but not done maths since I was in school nearly 20 years ago. Anyway keep up the good work, cheers!

    I'm a retired US military senior NCO (Marines and Air Guard security police). I spent a lot of time in the field. Your four suggestions are primo number one for soldiers regardless of country. However, in the US military (particularly the Marines) you are not allowed to bring anything except the clothes on your back to boot camp. They issue everything you need (their definition of need). When I went through Infantry Training Regiment (after boot camp) way back in the day, we couldn't bring extras either. Once you went to the Fleet, you could have extras, but bearing in mind you have to carry it and weight is an issue. And toilet paper. Always toilet paper. Our TP packs in C-Rats and MREs were too small and basically useless. We took partial rolls of TP, removed the tube, and flattened it down. Zip-lock bags were a God-send to keep the TP dry. Gerber multi-tools are very good, but I'm partial to the Leatherman brand. They are expensive, but worth it. I used to have a stainless steel thermos shaped like a US military canteen. That was one of the best purchases I ever made for the field. My oldest daughter is in the Air Force Reserve. When she went to Afghanistan, I made sure she had those four items and a couple of other items (we could have knives bigger than 3-inches so I gave her a US Marine K-Bar). When I was in Vietnam and Desert Storm, and in the field on exercises, I always wore a K-Bar on my trouser belt.

    • @MilitaryFitness
      @MilitaryFitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a k bar. I swapped it for a t shirt from a marine when I was on Iraqi Freedom with them. Some really great suggestions there as well. Thanks for the comment and watching the video.

    • @christophertipton2318
      @christophertipton2318 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MilitaryFitness I think K-Bars are excellent knives. I have my father's K-Bar from WWII. Unfortunately, I lost my K-Bar from Vietnam in the field one day after I was back. Marines used to be issued K-Bars in combat zones and the supply types were pretty good about forgetting to get yours back when leaving the combat zone. So I would guess your t-shirt probably cost you more than the K-Bar cost the Marine. Either way, you probably ended up ahead as they cost about $115 new from the manufacture (with leather sheath).

    On lighters. Select a Bic lighter. Main reason is you can get a cover to keep it dry. Exotac or something very exy.
    OR look in tobaconists. You'll find a little rubber boot meant for base of lighter on a retractable spring return string. Prevents that old can I borrow your lighter and it never gets returned for smokeaholics.
    Take the rubber boot trash the rest. That boot over flint end will keep the flint dry should you go through a dam or something. Costs a few dollars cheap chinese tat but does the job

    This is great..I trained recruits both as a Corporal and a Sergeant..we were not keen on the wet wipes as it is believed one should LEARN to be able to wash properly without using these..
    I left in 2010 having done 23 years. Yes I can “swing a lamp” or “pull up a sandbag” but what you are stating is very good.
    If it enables a recruit to have confidence to watch these videos and apply to join..then why not? I applaud you..
    I came from an environment of the ‘70’s and ‘80’s where there was an abundance of WW2 old boys (of which my Grandfather was one of them....hence why I joined...he told me all his stories warts an all..and I still joined!)
    However even when I was training recruits..there was a distinct lack of even the basics of life coming from recruits that came from families (of all walks of life) with virtually NO basic skills at all...even the Scouts/Guides are not in abundance anymore...so for those from the past that criticise then please take a look at what is going on...
    I have subbed..as I am actually going to do the training to build myself up to pass these British Military tests..l have let myself go in the last 12 years..and I am going to set myself that “basic” standard...
    Good for you mate..keep these videos and content coming
    Rob

    Hi Sam good video. But should you have not pointed them in the direction of a wind resistant lighter? stops it being blown out of the wind. The part about the belts fraying is very true but any D.S staff will point out how to stop it from happening from day one when you get the kit, is called burn off the frying parts so that they do not do again. Is sellotape on the list of things to bring? was given that tip many year ago before I joined up, gets rid of dust cat hair etc off the beret. The same has a house wife enables you to put back a button on a shirt. For all those that do not know what a house wife is ask Sam am sure he will explain. Do need to ask you Sam how much did you get paid to advertise a product?

    Pocket knife..an old German one from Endicotts £5. Or a swiss army knife. Good choices if you wear spectacles. They have a corkscrew. For a fiver you can get a micro screwdriver that screws into corkscrew. Stash a few spare screws to hold your lenses in spectacles frame in case it comes undone and you lose it. You can pop side plastic off both types and tape spare screws in gap between them and knife

    I have to admit Sam it’s been very very fun being free and independent of Great Britain and it’s tyrannical ways. Here in America it’s almost like we can do whatever we want not having to take order from king George anymore and the other tyrannical non democracy laws Great Britain has. We vote over here for our leader instead of a leader being born into power no matter what like in Great Britain. I actually get to vote and make a difference in my country by voting for my leader and not even voting for a king or queen but a president and the president doesn’t even have total power anyways. Congress can say no to certain things and the president can’t even declare war.
