    Training at Pirbright is miserable as you're doing it but looking back it was one of my favourite times in the army so far, and I can see why a lot of instructors want to go back there to teach. That last week after you get back from your final ex, suddenly your corporals start speaking to you like human beings, troop pizza night, you knock off at 12 after your 4 hours of pass off rehearsals every day for a week. The weeks will fly as well, we blinked and we were 4 weeks in, blinked again and we were in Wales in week 11. At Pirbright you don't get to go home at weekends, you mainly just doss about in your Pirbright tracksuits until its scoff time, unless you're in the last few weeks and you might get a day release on a saturday.

    I went into U.S. Navy in 1972 , spent 6 years active, 2 deployments, tail end of Vietnam Nam. I was extremely fortunate to have my recruiters advise me almost exactly like Luke, did 6mos of cardio and strength training before entry and had a better time in basic than most. You took me back 48 years, it was a nice trip.......

      Ranger Media Was not “in country”, spent time in Tonkin Gulf - Yankee Station off North Vietnam Nam on a destroyer escort/frigate, it was a combat zone, got the pay, but it was fairly safe.
      Didn’t get shot at until Jan 1978 in Long Beach, California, when a few bad boys decided to send a few rounds over the hood of our shore patrol car. Did NOT like the sound of bullets flying by me!

    Ranger media good video. Got me thinking of my time. Advice for the new recruits, when you turn up for training look clean and smart. First impressions count. Wash and shave. Wear a pair of clean polished plain shoes. A plain shirt and tie and trousers or a suit, make sure everythings ironed. Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut. Listen, look, learn and do. Give 100% in everything.
    Ranger media I'd say much the same as you reference the kit to take - iron/board, pens and note books A4 /A5 and A6 for pockets, basic wash kit - 2 tooth paste and 2 tooth brush, 1 shower gel, 1 bar of soap, 2 razors and spare blades, towels 2 large and 2 small, 2 flannels, clothes hangers, 2 padlocks and spare keys, 2 shoe polish, selvit cloths and 4 brushes - 2 on n 2 off, baby wipes, soap powder or capsules for the washing machines.

    We were told to not to bring ironing board(checklist for [what to and what not to bring] when you arrive for phase 1). When It was time for ironing, god the state of the ironing boards were nowhere near useable(broken legs, not folding upright, padding was too thin and the creases didn't form). most of use in the section used our tables with towels placed on top of it as only a few ironing boards were functional.
    As for passport size photos, it was for the military vehicle driving license and if you already have a car and bike license (full or provisional) you didn't need to provide passport size photo, just the driving license was needed to be sent along with the New driving license documents.

    Even after 36 years training (Irish DF down south) I still enjoy your video’s. I had to smile at your recommendation to square away your admin for the following week, it’s a habit I’m still doing. A small piece of advice I give lads going in “don’t make a Monday morning decision “, ‘what does that mean?’.. You’ve had a weekend off with your civvie mates, you’re dreading another week of beasting and you decide you’re pulling out on Monday morning, tell yourself you’ll do it tomorrow and by tomorrow you’re right back in the groove and you won’t quit, no one quits midweek 😂 Great videos and advice, be safe

      @bigmartin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-jo4of6rr6b are you struggling anywhere?. Halfway through so you’re coming up to your ground phase?. What I’ll say is if you get a break during the day (few and far between I know), don’t crash out in the bed, do something to square away your kit, check threads on flashes, buttons, pockets etc (measure twice, cut once), clean your bed space l, anything really that might keep the heat off you. Ground phase, there’s so much advice but ask your section commander for advice, that’s their job!. But ziplock bags, baby wipes (unscented), get pencils for the ground, biros don’t work when they’re wet or dirty, pencils do.. Half way through ‘ when you’re going through shit, keep going’.. Your NCO’s will one day be your mates, I know they’re beasting you now but it’s nothing personal, take it all on the chin

    • @Rangermedia
      @Rangermedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Non taken, we are as busy as ever. Picking rubbish up is just good drills, tidy workplace and all that😉 Whoever has told you that’s all they do is, tell them to put a transfer in. They’re not in the right place. Conflicts come and go it’s about staying ready . The amount of opportunities are endless, you just have to be driven and go get them. Just becomes there’s no conflicts doesn’t mean it’s going to be boring. Jungle warfare , sniper, apache pilot , JTAC , skydiving , skiing , mountain biking , expeditions the list is endless. It’s easy to go on patrol and get shot at and the excitement goes out the window in a split second. All of the above courses and extreme sports do not completely replace kinetic operations but they are just as challenging and keep you ready for when the time comes to do the business.

    (any advice is appreciated): So i’m in phase 1 and at the moment & i am down to be a Royal Engineers - Electrician. When i joined i always thought this would be the best option because it was sold to me to as the perfect mix of infantry support (front line combat engineering), gaining qualifications by becoming a tradesmen and then also the option to really push yourself and become a diver/commando which has always been a dream of mine. However, since joining i have came across the job role REME - Electronics Technician which has thrown a spanner in the works. This job offers Lance Corporal at the end of phase 2 training and also a bachelors degree in science which would obviously help me with employment post army life. My dilemma is i think i would be happier In the RE because from what i gather it’s more hands on and deployments and i could push for commando but when i say that to the boys they just say ‘well there’s no conflict at the moment anyways’ but overall there seems like more opportunity to push myself physically and create more memories, on the other hand REME provides the degrees and quicker rank progression and when joining i didn’t really understand the ranking and promotion system, i do aspire to go Sandhurst and become an Officer and i think you need a degree to do that? Overall i understand they’re both completely different job roles but from your guys experiences / knowledge what would be better? Pushing myself ‘academically’ and trying to get Officer hopefully within about 10 years or ‘Physically and mentally’ and go for Royal Engineers Commando or Diver? I’m 17 with 4 weeks left of basic. (been sent home for 2 months because of COVID so had a lot of time to think!) ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED! also if you’re just starting phase 1.. remember to lock your fucking lockers!😂

    Hey, I'm in a bit of a bind. I am applying to become an Officer and as I understand, the fitness requirements are slightly higher. The problem is, I am 6ft 2inches, and I weigh 18st 9lbs, that puts me in the obese category. I have been loosing loads of weight recently and I once weighed 28st, so I have lost 9st 5lbs. I run 30 minutes a day, do about 30 press-ups a day, and lift weights.
    Despite my weight, I would say I am surprisingly fit for my size and I am pretty confident I could pass the fitness requirements. I also don't look as fat as you would probably expect either.
    What is the Army policy on obese recruits?
    If they display they can meet the fitness standards and would be willing to undergo further weight loss regimes?
    I have been working my backside off to loose weight, is effort taken into account as well?

    hi mate, im 15 years old been working on my fitness recently and doing well on it. ive looked into a lot of roles in the army but still unsure what i’d like to pursue. still doing my gcse’s fairly confident in some but not sure im going to do well overall (obviously still aiming for my best). im pretty set on the army, have been for a while, but need some advice. im a girl, i know the physical difference i have to men , but still want to join into a combat, medical or support role. im assuming i wont be passing infantry, just by the number of women to have tried, so i’ve accepted that i wont be doing that even though i do take a serious interest. what job would you say i have a best chance at/will be more likely to advance in. dont mind anyones advice on this, as ive said im aware of the physical difference i have, but please dont leave any advice abt “women dont belong” etc. obviously people have opinions, but im set on the army and want to join either way and could do with some genuine advice on what path to go towards or to at least look at in my own time.

      If you're smart join Int Corps. The reg the highest amount of women in the army (about a quarter of int corps soldiers are women I believe) and you can get a job within the reg that could get you attached to infantry. Its also pays pretty well and you start as a lance corporal once you leave phase 2 training.
      Also, if infantry is what you want to do - do it. Tons of women smash it and while its true a lot fail a lot of blokes also fail too. You might smash it for all you know. If you don't try you might regret it later on in life.
