    Jackfruit in Brazil are everywhere. They taste much different in Brazil, more sweet and pineapple flavor. Every jackfruit I bought here in America I throw away, they remind me of banana, and I'm not a big fan of bananas. I also had jackfruit popsicles over there and oh my, what a lovely thing. Jackfruit seeds also are a precious thing, mich more powerful then botox.

    I have them growing inside over here in Australia because I started growing mine before last winter (June to August) last year & the winter weather will kill them iny location near Sydney (Newcastle) in New South Wales.
    I have a couple of very strong seedlings that I am going to pot up into a bigger pot then place them in a greenhouse that I have recently bought until I move onto a property this year some time.
    I would plant them in the ground probably later this coming spring or next summer time,the problem we have at Newcastle is that it's more of a temperate climate whereas they grow well in tropical Cairns in Queensland.
    Someone has managed to grow them at Sydney but they would have really had to nurse them indoors or in a greenhouse when they were younger because Sydney is a bit more temperature as well.
    AFAIK they will dismally fail growing at Melbourne in Victoria unless they're planted as an established tree 🌲 !

    What kind of heat , sunlight and humidity levels do you need to grow jackfruit?
    I know that in Puerto Vallarta Mexico
    they are endemic !

      Full sunlight, humidity at least 70% or a bit lower should do, if your climate is drier just water it more. You need to be in a zone 10b USDA at least, it should never freeze in your area if you want to grow jackfruit.

      I just bought one. I'm in north Florida, will it grow, and is February a good time to put it in the ground. My tree is about 2 feet tall, grafted. Thank you.

    For a small backyard garden in Zone 9B CA, what variety do you recommend? Is grafted tree better than one grown from a seed? Thanks!

    • @Banana_Slugcat
      @Banana_Slugcat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not an expert but in zone 9b you can barely make a jack tree survive, it does not like frost and will die below 32F degrees. They say black gold is a variety that can resist some light frost but I don't think it would survive either. If you have a greenhouse, try and see if it survives in there.

      @@Banana_Slugcat Thanks for the reply! I did try to grow jackfruit seedlings from a store bought fruit, but most of them died in spring (after surviving the winter in heated greenhouse -- same thing happened with some mangoes).

    I live on the Treasure coast and bought a seedling jackfruit tree 6 years ago and it is fruiting now for three years. How can I determine what variety it is? The seller was unsure.

      They like loam, even sandy and any soil in general, although it must be well draining soil and it needs to be slightly acidic to work best. It should be fertilized with cow manure and other natural fertilizers when you plant it in the ground, then you fertilized every six months with 10 10 10 NPK fertilizer and a bit of magnesium.
