In this video we are tasting a very unique tropical fruit that can easily grow in Florida backyards. Jackfruits, huge and heavy (25lbs!) fruit with alligator-like skin and intense fruity aroma, like mangoes and avocados, come in many different varieties with different tastes, textures and sizes and tree characteristics. This particular variety, J-31, was brought to Florida from Malaysia decades ago and has done very well in our climate. This fruit was purchased from our Tropical Fruit Forum friend Brandon (cbss_daviefl) by our new friend Heather (Canesgirl) (we were late!) who graciously shared it with us. The fruit was grown in Brandon's fruit garden in Southwest Ranches, FL.
Disclaimer: We all know that different fruit varieties have different flavors; for example, some jackfruit varieties have a fruity bubble gum taste, some have citrusy sweetness, some - tones of vanilla and sweet banana. We are not trying to compare or rate the varieties; just showing what a certain variety looks like, feels and tastes from our own perspective. Taste is very personal and subjective, varies from person to person and culture to culture. Also, the same variety grown in different parts of Florida will taste different depending on changes in microclimate, annual rainfall, soil health, mineral and salt content, fertigation regimen (irrigation+fertilization), etc. This video is intended to motivate friends who have never tried this wonderful fruit to go and try it for the first time and dance in awe and happiness.

yes it is intoxicating, even racoons across the river in the park smelled it and came. They enjoyed the leftover scraps we put in our compost.

Besides having several lbs of fresh sweet jackfruit, I made pulled jackfruit sandwiches, rag fries and jackfruit seed curry this week, it has all been very yummy! Hope you got to make good use of this beautiful jackfruit! ☺️
