One of my favourite fruit. Its a blessing from nature, with its sweet flesh and grainy texture. I will plant the seeds in my home in Assam, its hot and humid there most of the time.
YEY CHICO!!!, luv ur channel it reminds me of the backyard that we have back in the Philippines, the abundance of tropical fruits,... yum yum yum !!! i'm missing these fruits you have , sugar apples chico, etc,.. unfortunately the ones I can only buy here in los angeles are frozen and it doesn't taste the same,..
I hear you sister! Frozen fruit NEVER tastes the same compared to when you pick it off the tree. The same is true for bananas in the UK. In the Caribbean you could pick a banana and put your tongue in the middle of it and get a sugar rush. When you buy it in the grocery store in the UK, no such luck. It doesn't even smell the same. ** SIGH **
Where I live, that fruit is also known as chico. If you are impatient, you can pick the fruit green and wrap it in paper to hasten its ripeness. Its taste is similar to that of mamey; I guess they are related.
Thx you for the all detailed information loved it and loved the tree it is so big soon going to plant a hybrid sapodilla tree in my garden need every info got one already but it is a seed grown no fruit so far from 2 yrs but hoping to graft it once my new tree start to bear fruit 😁.👌😋
Very nice video! Thanks for sharing your experience on here. I’d doubt it would survive the intense heat and cold in Sydney Australia, but I’m still keen to give it a go!
I aldo have a 6 years old tree in SoCal, it's Alano variety and it's about 12 ft tall, trunk around 6" now. Been giving me about 100 fruits past 3 years :) One if my favorite tree i have
Talk about wind resistant, our Chico tree has withstood 2 major hurricanes here in Hawaii! Our tree is a monster and so tall that we don't know how to prune it because it is unreachable even with a ten foot ladder. We'll have to hire a professional to do the job but since the situation in 2020 with the "rona" we can't afford it. Unfortunately we don't eat the fruit but after learning about all the nutritious value I might just have to learn how to eat it. I'd like to find a way to use it to replace cane sugar perhaps a simple syrup if possible. Off to learn more on TH-cam. Thank you for your information!
Wow, I didn't know that Sapodilla, Mamey, and Caimito were part of the same family of fruits. I wish we had some photo representation of the other fruits. This video sent me back in time 40 years.
If only you could enter the other fruit names into some sort of magical sea rch box that that you could type into and have it respond with a wid variety of imagesrelate dto you keyword... If only you had something like that yo u would be able to full fill the is dream being able to view images of all the fruits simultaneously..... Some day.... Good Luck ...
Hey Kevin, big fan from, Penrith Western Sydney Australia we are in winter zone similar to 10 a and 10b which i believe to be temperate climate but in summer it range from 100 degrees to 116 degrees any given day what exotic fruit can we grow in those temperatures
Hello, Thanks for the awesome videos. Are sapodilla trees good for moving if dug up properly? I want to transplant one, but I don’t want to kill it in the process. Thank you.
hi, do you manually pollinate them? Our tree flowers but doesn't set any fruit. I've seen videos where they squeeze the flower to pollinate them. thanks!
_TRULY TROPICAL!_ Im on the Texas Coast.. we are sub-tropical/tropic BUT, it can get a little drier in the summer, and occasionally it will freeze here. I want to plant weird tasty strange fruit and fruit trees and vegetables. Like This.. I grow Loquat, and Mango in pots. MIracle Berry.. but i need some ideas.. of what i can plant here without it dying. Any Ideas?
Mature Sapodilla and mature Jaboticaba trees (5+ years old) would be able to survive the occasional freeze, but they would require supplemental water. If you planted younger sapodilla and/or jaboticaba trees, they would need to be protected from freezes.
By squeezing it a bit, you can tell if it is for picking and soon for eating if it slightly compressible. If it is too firm or hard, then not yet for picking
"Slow growing" is right. This was mentioned to me when I bought a Sapodilla from Exotica Nursery in Vista, California. It has been planted in the ground for over 2 years and it is still under a foot tall. It looks good and the leaves look healthy, but it sure grows slow. I was warned not to try and force growth with alot of Nitrogen, excessive Nitrogen would damage the roots. They just grow slow. I am glad to hear they are very tough since it is planted on a very windy hilltop, about 5 miles from the ocean along the 78 Freeway.
in northern part of Malaysia we call it Buah Sawa. my late grand father planted 3 of these species in an orchard that i manage now. not sure which sub species it is.. the fruit is small. one of the tree age about 50yrs old now and the trunk girth is as big as a 100kg human.
Maybe a Sapodilla in cold weather video in the works?? I live in California zone 10a and need guidance as to plant in the ground or keep it in a container because of the weather.
Thanks so much for the clip! Well done! I liked and subscribed to your channel! ;) I just discovered this tree and got a couple cuttings and fruit and will now try grow both (seedlings and cuttings). Greetings from the Northern Territory, Australia. Chrissy
Can a Sapodilla Tree grow and produce fruit in Denver, Colorado? There is a tree on the golf course where I play, that produces fruit that is slightly prickly and looks like a small potato. I am wondering if it is a Sapodilla Tree, but no where can I find a mention of a slight prickly fruit.
I have a mature sapadilla tree maybe it is 10 years now, it bears plenty of flowers but not all developed to became a fruit. Do i need to put fertilizer? Thank you
hello there..i live in texas and would love to plan this tree i my backyard...we will have freezes occationally...please advise whether i can grow this in a pot? or if i plant it in the ground how can protect it
Hi there, Thank you to share. I bought one grafted plant and it has started to flower. But the flowers are not forming fruits and just dries and falls out. Can you please advise.
I think I can help. You may want to try doing these 2 things. 1. Leave some Hibiscus or other Flower Plants that has flowers near the Sapodilla Tree to attract the bees. 2. Use a very small paint brush and gently touch one Anther then touch the tip of the Stigma within the same flower. Wait a few days to see if it works.
I have two grafted, matured and huge 20 years old sapodilla trees in my backyard. The issue with the trees are it flowers but the flowers do not turn into fruits. In each season I get hardly one or two fruits. I do fertilize the trees. Can anyone suggest me as to what's wrong with the trees? I live in South Florida.
"Slow growing" is the only thing I disagree with, I pugged my Alano and Molix to 3 feet off the ground, no foliage, 2 months ago. Now they're about 6 feet tall with 16 branches, but I watered and fertilized them every day.
This fruit is absolutely delectable! It tastes like custard.

*in the Philippines, we called it chico/chicos......it taste sweet and has a woody after taste...*
Wow! Sapodilla sounds like a natural Centrum tablet. I didn't know it had so many nutrients in it. The miracle of fruit.
My most favorite fruit ever👌
In my country it is a natural fruit we called it chico fruit, it is sweet when it's ripe from the tree.

They definitely tolerate the intense heat.
I have one in Townsville, North Qld (Tropics) and it flourishes! I've been here only two years and my large tree has provided a huge amount of fruit.
One of my fav fruits. I live sapodilla smoothie, it's super duper tasty!!!!

If you had to choose between Alano and Haysa based on taste alone which of the two would you pick?
19:08 It's called cheeko in Pakistan maybe because of the chickle. Usually we consume it as smoothies.

Can you mix mangos with sapodillas in your orchard?
yes but not close enough that roots will tangle.
This is wonderful ! Do you send to Pompano Beach, Florida ? Thank you .
Our regular customers seem to buy them quickly, so we don't have extra to ship

How should sapodilla be stored in order for it to ripe, in the light or in the dark?
Put it in a container that has uncooked rice, cover it about 3/4th with rice -- check every day (similar procedure to ripen mangoes)

if they are that huge they're probably seedlings of bad quality fruit. I would cut them down or top work them (graft) with good varieties
