Legendary group. Loved all their music. Fabulous drummer Dino. And great vocals from Felix and Eddie. Gene Cornish on harmonica in Groovin was truly magical. I always Felt Felix was one of the great vocalists in Rock History
Another great interview. Felix Cavaliere is one of the best song writers ever; not to mention his singing and musicianship and as revealed in this interview, production skills. The Chuck Raney contribution is a revelation. But Raney never played with The Young Rascals on TV that I can recall.
I saw the Young Rascals at the Brooklyn Fox Theater and there big hit was Good Loving They were the only group in the sixties who constantly maintained chart position on both the pop and R&B charts. I got to Meet Felix Cavliere at an R&B fest in Brooklyn in the 90's
I saw them play "Good Lovin'" on Ed Sullivan and bought their album the next day. A few months later, I saw them when they were on tour in West Virginia with Dick Clark's "Where the Action is". A few years later in 1970, I saw them in Miami Beach when they played for Danny Thomas' fund raiser for St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Danny told the audience that not only did The Rascals (formerly Young Rascals) not only donated their pay to the fund, they paid all their own expenses in travel and everything else. This is the kind of generous and loving gentlemen they were, in addition to being great musicians. Wonderful memories! They were - and still are - the real deal. Thank you, Felix, for creating the spark that formed this group. I still have all of their vinyl albums which I bought new. Well, my daughter is in possession because she loves music as much as I do.
Thanks Sir. Felix for all the great music. Those songs of yours were great and to those of us who were there when they were first released they were magical.
The Young Rascals! Up there with the best of the best! Their music has been a part of my human spirit since they came out in the 60s! Thanks, Felix! What a musician!
A huge musical influence on me as a kid. It became cool to play Organ! I had an opportunity to speak with him at a show in FL some years later, he is a really nice guy. Thank you Felix!

Is there any music more joyous or infectious than the Rascals string of 60’s classics which define the era. That the Rascals are confined to that decade and never took it to the next level doesn’t detract from the majesty of Groovin’, Beautiful Morning or A Girl Like You which are just waiting for future generations to discover. If that doesn’t give Felix Cavaliere a good feeling nothing will.
The Young Rascals were a great group back in the day when I was in High School during the Mid to late 60’s. My 3 Favorites they did back then was “I Ain’t Going To Eat Out My Heart Anymore”, “Slow Down” and “In The Mid Night Hour”. That Hammond B3 in the later 2 with Felix’s Playing made this group. No one else had that sound.
Great interview. I wish Felix had talked more about being "discovered" by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. Ahmet was the originator of Atlantic Records -- of Turkish extraction -- and the son of the Turkish ambassador to the USA. He signed people like Ray Charles (and wrote Ray's 1st hit Mess Around). Later signed and recorded/produced for Led Zeppelin, Aretha Franklin, and Yes. Anyway, again, great interview of a band that is sometimes overlooked. The Rascals could really play and made it big with so much NYC competition in those days.
That was a great interview of a guy that has given the world some great songs. I remember them being on shows like The Ed Sullivan Show. I’m going to hit iTunes and grab some of their stuff.
The (Young) Rascals were the first rock concert I ever attended, at Brooklyn Tech. A friend of mine was a second cousin to Felix, so I always felt a third-hand connection to the band.

Personally I am very grateful and relieved that Felix and The Rascals did well financially. They were truly great classic band that deserved their success!
Although at 10, with a musical brother, I was a seasoned battle of the bands attendee, the first real band I saw live wore knickers and blew me away at age 10. I still love the sound of a Hammond and sticks that double as batons. I heard later Felix and I were at the same English Invasion benefit concert in 05. Wish I'd seen him backstage to tell him.
A boat load of feel good music came out of that band. It seemed like there was a hit from the Rascals on the radio every couple months. I thought he was very respectful about not mentioning the turmoil among the members because their legacy as a group should prevail over everything. And I had the same feeling that Felix mentioned, as an 11 or 12 year old seeing Dino Danelli on tv the first time. Your eye couldn't help but go to that guy behind the drum kit having the time of his life.

I have to agree with Felix about the Beatles....their early material wasn't that great but I did come to appreciate their song writing skills starting with Rubber Soul.

Very cool interview.
Hey David,
My dad, Joe, passed September 28th… I know he would have appreciated you comment.
Thank you for supporting the channel. Hope you can visit the museum sometime, if you haven’t already.
Best,
Britt
Is good to know. I grew up with AM radio KHJ Boss City in Los Angeles. I love the music created by the Young Rascals. Their songs were played several times throughout the day in the ‘60s. Their music is cheerful and uplifting and makes me feel good about life.
