    I am impressed. I have watched a lot of boat repairs and buildings on the Tube and I have to say your job is probably one of the top two or three. Yes, I did hate to see the foam applied! You were going cold turkey so well too! After a lifetime around and on boats of all kinds I can say I have seen aluminum and glass (both poly and epoxy) bondings of many kinds and some work very well while others fail. The interface is critical as the expansion rate of the two are different. Not only ambient temperature but fuel temperatures when filling up are at work. The aluminum oxide can also interfer with the bonding if not scrupulously cleaned immediately before glassing. Best of luck with yours. Enjoy your videos.

    have you heard or done stringers in Nidaocore? Have a chance to pick up a 24 answer and the stringers were done in Nidacore and transom done in Davinacell. Im a little weary of the Nidacore for stringers.

    • @TrentonKnepp
      @TrentonKnepp  ปีที่แล้ว

      They don't recommend nidacore for stringers. However IF they put enough glass over them you should be fine. Some people use low density foam for stringers. Basically using the core material just for the purposes of being a mold. Be careful, there is more crap work out there than good.

    Foam is not a Problem.... You just have to know how to keep water out of it.Don't know what epoxy you used...It sure isn't Coal Tar Epoxy... If epoxy came off...It wasn't mixed correctly or surface contaminated. What foam did you use? Your supposed to use 4lb density or greater.. But 4lb is standard for fuel tank install and 2lb is for cheaper flotation... But not for fuel tanks. So 2 coats of Coal Tar epoxy cleaning the tank before and after you sand it with 80gt on a DA sander. Lag the tank in. 4lb density foam. Trim foam flush with to of tank. Fiberglass bridge between bulkheads and stringer across the foam over onto top of tank. No water can get in foam now... even if your piehoels leak. Cut a limber hole thru aft bulkhead and epoxy seal the surface to allow any water to move onto the bilge. Done many Its been post Many times on Classic Parker.com

      I used 6# foam. I didn't like the coal tar epoxy due to minor scratches will expose the tank. I used west system epoxy withc2 layers of mat to cover the entire tank. My thoughts were, if a hole would ever open that the epoxy encapsulation will act as another tank. My goal is to have it last till I die.
