Why would you ever ever ever put that much work and money in to restoring a boat without replacing your fuel tank, especially if the boat doesn’t have a dedicated cut out to access the tank. I have restored many boats and if they are older than 10 yrs, I always start with the fuel tank first. Inspect the fuel tank and get a good idea if the foam is water logged or fuel loaded. As well as see what the stringers look like. It is always easier to replace a deck whether is rotten or solid than what you are having to do now.
Well then have words withthe dealership that sold it to you. Because as of now, this boat is a moneypit. Deeper and deeper in debt. Sell and do a job thats less stree while youre young.@MovinWeightFishing
man i feel for you ... I had a similar age 25 parker and it was a total peice of sh*t, deck rot, stringer rot, tank rot. They didnt epoxy the stringers and deck properly, so much of that filler foam that holds water. It's unfortunate that youve gotten a polished turd. You've got so much in it now with the work you've done that there's no way out, only forward, right? Keep up the work.... No boat is perfect, i thought when john said "maybe you shouldnt have done this" i was waiting for him to say "its not worth saving this boat" ....Keep your head up. I know you don't want to hear this, but maybe fix it and sell that thing- those 14 degree deadrise parkers ride like crap and they're slow as hell. They are pretty nice to fish from though. love you and love your videos thanks man.
What a kick in the balls!!! Can’t imagine the relief you felt as you found sound wood outside of the access you had to cut. I hope this is the last of the major repairs you’ll have to do on your boat for a long time.
Fuel and kingfish from 2010. That must really stink! I feel bad for you Adam. Good luck on your project and hope you're back slaying them again very soon!!
Love the content bro!! Sorry bout the tank. But word of advice NEVER use the bilge pumps to pump the fuel out. One spark when the float kicks and it’s over. Drill pump or a hand pump something like that!! Scared me 😂 good luck with the project tho man love the videos
I'm now a follower. I did this a few years ago to my bass boat. NOT FUN. I ended up draining my tank and cutting it out in pieces. I went from a 26 gallon to a 19 gallon replacement. This was not fun at all. I admire you for doing this yourself. Most people would have just sold the boat or scrap it. Your boat was probably built like mine. All wiring and pumps and tanks were put in, then the top cap put down on top. Took me a couple days to do it, and I wouldn't want to do it again.. good luck brotha
Don't feel too bad. And this doesn't only happen to boats like Parker. Blue Gabe has a similar video on doing this to his Contender. Poly tanks are the answer. Aluminum and foam are not compatible in the long run.
Nice video man. I have a small concrete company in Indiana and battle stuff like this all the time. Adapt and overcome! I’d like to come down some winter and book a few days with you. Winter is the only time I slow up.
@@mikehamm648 misery by putting up another aluminum tank in how crazy is that he could’ve bought a plastic tank or poly propylene whatever you wanna call them that would’ve fit in there easily and even if it didn’t fit exactly could’ve filled the sides that would be the best thing to do. I ran across this in my boat. I never put aluminum back in there again they corroded
I remember being young and having that "go to, get it done" attitude. There was nothing i wouldnt tear into. Now im old and have a bad back. Its a big hell no, these days.
The tbe same job on my 1801 parker. Had a full tank 60 gal. Same deck cut, tank definitely leaking,h oles on the side of the tank. Foam was saturated. The trick is getting a new tank. Took me about 6 months,on and off wotk days. Good luck keep up the positive vibes
Glad to see this, sorry for you. It gives me an idea of what kind of boat not to buy while I'm looking for a boat. I'll take the fuel tank placement more seriously.
Not even thinking of the future in the first I was looking at,I asked the salesman at the boat show about access to the fuel cell. He said just cut the floor out. Didn’t buy it. Fast forward on the boat I bought. Started smelling fuel years later. Ended up moving the console for access. Luckily only issue was the gasket on top of the tank. Scary, my brother was a heavy smoker. Used to crouched on the floor above the tank to light up if it was a windy. Very scary. Luckily we didn’t have to go through what you did. Love your videos.
Just went through this last year on the boat I run charters on up here in NC. 2019 year model Sportsman the vent system failed and the plastic tank expanded to the point there were pin holes in the tank leaking fuel into the bilge. What is there to do but de-rig the entire boat and get to cutting.
I'm in the final stages of sanding my boat, I completely redid my floors 2 new tanks ( I got a cat) cut the splash wells off squared off the back, built a new live well. I feel your pain when you start something and have to add little more but definitely worth it at the end.
I went through this last year but my boat has two 115 gallon tanks. Make sure to have your new tank epoxy coated. Also make sure water can drain from under the tank. That foam just traps water. My tanks we put a couple of rubber strips a few inches wide front to back for the tank to sit on leaving about an inch airspace underneath for water to drain to the bilge. Not side to side. That will trap the water.
Advice label every wire with tape where it goes. Trust me it makes it much easier to put back together, also label screws, nuts, bolts, etc. You’ll be thankful you did
When i had tank done on my Contender i learned fiberglass guys cut at 35 or 45 degree angle so they can put deck back. In your case looks like you will be replacing. But it makes installing easier.
Start by removing the fuel line pump out the fuel tank or drain it being very careful because it is explosive disconnect. The filler anything that’s connected to that tank. It’s gotta come loose then start removing the foam you can take scrapers and remove the foam on the outer perimeters, the fuel tanks should come out fairly easy but you’re gonna need prybars. I wish I was there. I could definitely show you how to get it done. I’ll keep watching the video and see what else I think. Definitely don’t throw the piece of fiberglass you took out away you can be used, if it’s not saturated with water
dog ginnit, sucks bustin out anoder thousand...i just ran into a snadbar and stunk up my lower ewnit on dat gondang 🌕 super duper lowride tide 🌊.. i feel ya brotime keep em comin ! yeehaw
if you haven't disposed of it yet, run the 'bottom of the tank' fuel thru a good fuel filter and water separator and reuse it... if you dont want to put it in your nice new tank, slowly add it to a car or generator or something else so your not paying to dispose of it.
Now thats a depressing deal for sure. My 2016 parker 1801 has two 8-inch access hatches, one located on the bow and the other right at your feet at the helm. The one at the helm is definitely annoying, however I'm certainly glad to have it. Certainly hoping to make 20yrs or more without doing what you've had to do.
the grounding wire caused electrolysis? i thought the grounding wire was to stop static shock -explosion. I think the sand in tank and any fiction points could be the issue. Usually you test the tank with air pressure 3-4 lbs to see it it holds first.
Was it at that stage in the boat building that they didn't understand the potential of the fuel tanks corroding that just it doesn't make sense why you would ever put something in at the lowest point or close to lowest of the boat where it's most likely to set in saturated moist environment

Didn’t you just put a new tank in when you rebuilt the boat? While it’s out replace every line and I hope you checked all the lines before cutting. It looks bad, but it’s not a difficult job.
You would think that someone would have made a straight line to cut so when the ducking gets put back in you could cut the plywood in straight lines so it would fit back in nicely
