My biggest thrift find was a Toys r us Pikachu N64 console in box for $14.99 years ago.
My best thrift find was a turbografx-16 w/turbo cd, case and extra controllers for 1/2 price of 5 dollars.
I dont collect old systems, but if I saw that I would totally buy! What a find! I miss my old TG16 + CD 😢

I live in LA and get all over. In terms of Goodwill specifically or big chain thrifts, the best items are stereos and home entertainment electronics.

My best find was a chococat build a bear. Paid like $2 and sold for $315.
I work right next to that Goodwill! I passed on that Wii U lol. Good thing about the electronics is there no tax there.

My Best goodwill find was paper Mario for GameCube for $5.99, Luigi’s mansion $5.99 and Mario & Luigi’s bowser story for DS for $3.99 all in the same store

I never had an xbox but my buddies did. I've always wanted to add a 360 with halo to bring back the times in highschool after football practice getting 8 guys together and playing multiplayer at someones house while we each ate a Taco Johns 6 pack and a pound.

It’s pretty damn close now. Cost of living has shot way up these last few years in LA while SF has stagnated. I’m in SF now and was considering a move to LA

100% my best finds were 100s of authentic Lebron James jerseys from around 2010 to early 2014 (Context I live in NE Ohio and Lebron James left for Miami) All the jerseys were .25cents to a dollar at all the Good Wills and Salvation Army's. I made a small fortune selling them on ebay when he returned to Cleveland in summer of 2014.
Here is one to make us all feel old, Ben Stiller is the same age in real life now as Robert DeNiro was in Meet the Parents.

Goodwill has gotten terrible in general. They barely stock games in their stores anymore. They keep the trash sports games that are worth nothing in their regular stores, and then ship off the good stuff to their really nice stores like the one you're in or sell them on Ebay for market value. Defeats the purpose of a thrift store if you ask me. If I'm going to pay anything close to market value I'd rather my money go to a Mom & Pop brick and mortar store rather than a greedy corporate entity that takes stuff for free under the auspices of being charitible, who underpays their employees, and is more than happy to line the pockets of the people at the top by profiteering off free donations.
Salvation Army is a little bit better but I'm starting to see them marking up video games and keeping them in locked cases or behind counters locally with market value (or higher) price tags.
So I hit the lesser known thrifts, and flea markets more often than I do Goodwill or Salvation anymore.

Of course, the prices are high. You have to think about where you are. At the beginning of the vid Rick, you stated that you are in the most expensive city in the USA. So the prices will be much higher. Especially since Gavin Newsom's, the governor of California, $20/hr minimum wage law was enacted at the beginning of April. Retail stores and restaurants have to make up for this by passing the increase in pay along to the consumers by raising the prices on ther goods. This has caused businesses to either foreclose or move out of the state. Out of the three major pizza chains, Pizza Hut, Domino's and Papa Johns, Pizza Hut stated that they were no longer offer delivery themselves. Therefore, if you wanted a pizza delivered you would have to order via DoorDash or a comparable service. In short, Newsome thought he was doing a good thing for the employees of the Golden State, because of his shortcomings, he failed to see the economical devistation it has had on the state.

Goodwill sends everything that’s good to their own auction site now
Yeah, that's not true. They do send a lot of stuff to their auctions but not everything good ends up there. It really depends on what area the stores are in and the people that price the stuff miss good things all the time. I understand that it can be harder to find good stuff these days but it's definitely not impossible, I still find good stuff all the time.

Going to the worst thrift store possible lol. There a lot better one. Our city thrift and yard sale are inflated or market place value. It wasn't what it used to be after 2 years ago, When social media isn't mass flooded with these channels. This is the reason why people should not donate to goodwill or shopped at goodwill nor do business with them
