In Washington state 1 year a humming bird flew indoors and could not get out and just kept flying up to the loft window, as I stood asking for it to come down so I could help it , it flew down and puffed up to cool off. I picked it up gently and took it outside after just watching it sit in my hand - it was so beautiful. A few years ago when I was outside my apartment, a Hummingbird hovered right near my face. I was quite surprised. It was nice to see the bird especially because I rarely have seen Hummingbirds in my area.
I agree wholeheartedly! He'd be a favorite to most. Absolutely fantastic videography skills, editing, presentation, angles, storytelling, massive footage of up close images, etc!!
I'm not all the way through this yet, but this is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. I'm amazed at how you were able to synchronize the audio with the slow motion wing flapping around 2/3 of the way in. Simply amazing video quality and technical production. Keep up the great work. Now back to the video. Hummingbirds amaze me.
Eric, you are a wonderful man and a fine friend to these incredible birds! Your work is lovely and valuable to all. Did you ever imagine the treasure in your own backyard? Just amazing! And thank you kindly for sharing said treasure. I look forward to more!
I find myself weeping with tears of wonder and joy. I feed hummingbirds religiously and they can always count on the flowers by the window, for sustenance.
Beautiful and thank you! During Hurricane Helene in the NC mts, a lone female hung around tightly to our window feeder for about 4 hrs during strong winds and rains. She was amazing to watch, a symbol of strength. She left for a few days after but then returned long enough to feed and get healthy for her trip southward. Watching this video was more than heart-warming. Eric shared the gift of life, a must watch for survivors of life’s storms.
You sir, have mastered what you were set upon this Earth to do. Big Thank You, from the citizens of this planet. Things which are created out of love, are always superior, in my opinion.
Yes, I have much gratitude for seeing this beautiful and inspiring video of Hummingbirds. That was excellent filming by Eric. The video was a Blessing to me.
I live in Argentina and have seen the long rubi tailed hummingbirds for many years at the hillsides of Cordoba province. They are so beautiful. Every time I spot them it feels like it is a blessing. Thank you for taking your time to do this , I loved the way in which you introduce each one. God bless you for sharing.
I'm on a media fast - so Im only allowing myself positive uplifting educational content this week - SO what a gem to discover this short !! production is immaculate! = from editing to the music score = short and sweet but a TRUE MASTERWORK . BRAVO to the whole team that produced this
I have watched, photograghed and fed hummingbirds for many many years in my yard. I put out 8 to 10 feeders and have about 30 birds every year. Some interact with me. Some look familar as if they know me and stop here every year. One comes to the window and looks in if a feeder is empty! I feel like she is saying " hey lady we need a refill out here". I could watch them all day. I'm positive they are nesting here. I just havn't been lucky enough to find the nests. Amazing creatures. This video is amazing. The pictures and the story. Just beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story and for having so much passion for these birds. I wish I could literally sit in your yard for a day, but watching this makes me feel like I have. Thank you so much and well done!
I loved this from start to finish. Some of the most beautiful hummingbird footage I have ever seen. And Eric is absolutely charming, and makes you want to go out and open your eyes and look around and see what you find!😊
I recently retired and moved to Costa Rica. The first thing I did after I found a house was to set up a bird feeding platform, (cats you know) and a humming bird feeder. Every, every, every morning I sit on my porch, drink coffee, eat a bowl of fruit and watch the birds, especially the hummers. I hope to get the little guys to eat out of my hand. So far no joy on the hand feeding but I persist. I think the problem is that I brought my twenty-three pound Manx cat with me when I moved here and I think that makes the birds reluctant to socialize. Often as many as fifteen different species visit the feeder every morning. They're all a pleasure to feed and to watch and the hummers are a joy. Thank you and best regards Sir.
Growing up my family had large family reunions in a wilderness area in Colorado, close to where all our family live. The area gets a lot of beautiful hummingbirds, which have always been one of my favorite animals. To bring them close to the campers and tents, everyone would put up feeders. It was during that time I learned to stick my finger where the feeders have resting platforms, and just wait. Eventually they would sit on your finger to drink. You just had to stay still until they got used to you. One of my favorite animal memories.
OMG finally someone else with a huge Manx! We had one gray tabby Manx that, at his chubby prime was 26 lbs, and he was scared of his shadow lol! My aunt raised a baby Calliope hummer that she found in the road, but that Manx cat totally ignored such an undersized morsel, he was only interested in the finches and sparrows eating birdseed from the feeder. Thanks for posting!
Hand feeding hummingbirds takes time. Start by getting birds familiar with your yard as a place to feed. Then use a white bowl with just a couple of small red beads with sugar water in it. Once they feed off that, sit in that location with your arm out, bead in the palm of your cupped hand with sugar water in it. At the start of the season it takes a lot of patience. Eventually you may get 2 or 3 birds perched on you sharing your hand feeder. I had one female who even enjoyed pinky pettings. The birds get more accustomed to movement and even talking.
I have been feeding humming birds for about 20 years now i can have as many as 60 to a hundred birds feeding at once i can hold my feeders and they will drink while I'm holding them i so look forward to spring when they start arriving some summers i can go through 250 pounds of sugar. Such a pleasure taking care of these tiny creatures.
What brand? I feed hummers all winter & it's quite a big endeavor to bring 5 - 10 32oz feeders indoors to warm up. It'd be great to have a warming feeder that the hummers actually like to drink from!
@lynnscarb I tried that one winter. It was difficult changing them out every couple of hours during really cold weather. At that time I had 10 feeders. I lost half my hummers over the last two years. The scientists said many were lost due to climate change. Now I only have five feeders out.
Bird lover and novice bird watcher here. Nothing is as engrossing to me as watching birds do what birds do. I get lost in it for hours. I'm so grateful for amazing channels on TH-cam that share their experiences and finds with the rest of us. There are some species I'll never get to see personally, but here, on TH-cam, I can see everything I could never see outside in my region. Eric Pittman is a kindred spirit!
Great work! I had an Anna’s nest in March 2024 and only one egg hatched. So funny that my good friend named him Solo also😀 I was able to capture him grow up and become a juvenile. Thank you for this beautiful movie. ❤
I love when he said have a drink my friend😊❤that made my day bright😊I’m on my way to the foot doctor after a nasty fall when I was hiking. I haven’t been able to walk yet, and the part that he showed the humming bird that has a bad leg but still working and making her nest touch my heart. Thank you
What amazing footage! I have been a hummingbird lover for over 50 years and at every place I have lived I have put up the feeders and planted the gardens for them. They give me life and joy.❤
Me too. I brought my feeder to a 3 week housesit in Santa Fe, NM. Didn’t take them long to find it. And I try to stay in birding lodges that have feeders when I travel. Because why not?
Thank you for sharing! They are incredible. My dad had your passion for fish. He had 3000 fish in 20 250 gallon fish tanks. 88 adult fish he knew exactly where they were, which had babies with which fish etc. The fish actually saved his life. He had big oxygen tanks for the fish tanks and one day he had a heart attack and was able to call 911 and grab one of the oxygen lines that helped him until help arrived. I love the lift you made for your dog Sofie.
Aw Bailey reminds me of my crow friend Curtie, who has a broken foot. Nature's resilience is staggering. His family also lost some babies this past summer, it was heartbreaking. The had three fledglings and one day I got to hang out with the whole family in the driveway, then maybe half an hour later there was a massive crow commotion of probably 100 crows on our street, and I never saw two of the three fledglings again. Like Sunshine's lone fledgling, their surviving baby turned out so strong! He was a joy to watch. As was this! I'm so glad I took the time to watch this, it's a really moving story. I have so much love for all of us that love wild birds.
Compliment of the season Diane, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year with friends and family?. I usually love your comments on this channel 🌹🌹
This was such an incredible joy to watch!!!! Beyond grateful to Eric for what he has chosen to spend his life doing.... Loving wildlife-nature!!! Thank you, Eric. 🙏🏼
My favorite bird species to watch in our backyard when they come in spring time to feed from our hibiscus plant. This is beyond beautiful to watch, so graceful and and full of energy. Stay blessed Eric, thank you for bringing this to the world, to witness another beauty of Mother Nature.
I immigrated to Vancouver about eight years ago. It can be a tough city to live in so I decided to make a list of the top five things I love about being here so when I got homesick I had something to refer to. #1 on the list are Hummingbirds. I love them. I can have the worst day and that’s quickly forgotten when I sit and watch my hummingbird feeder.
Compliment of the season Gloria, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year with friends and family?. I usually love your comments on this channel 🌹🌹
I love this video SO much. And as of 4 minutes in, I have the SAME exact hummingbird feeders, which is making me feel like a true bird nerd. I can't WAIT until our Ruby Throat Hummingbirds return to Massachusetts! 3 to 4 months left, I mark my planner every year. Thank you for sharing such beautiful videography.
You sir are a good man,! I enjoyed this immensely!! I feel bad for that little bird with the broken leg but she is able to go about her life even with that kind of disability. I hope she is not in much pain.
There are hundreds of species of hummingbirds. Some migrate and others don’t. In Oregon we have some of them year round and others are only there in the summer. :)
I fell asleep to this while listening to it on my headphones and I heard every word and every sound in my dream and I was right there with you and Sunshine and Solo and Bailey and Sophia ... we were in a gigantic backyard that looked like a paradise in my dream.... now watching it again while I'm awake it's like reliving a beautiful dream
Thank you Eric for your heart, your patience and the Love that you have for Our Creation and the beauty that it offers to us. THIS IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER WATCHED/FOUND ON TH-cam!!! God bless
I had believed ALL species of hummingbirds migrated south or the winter before watching this video. Learning there is species that doesn’t is incredible. They’re so small, and they feed on flowers, so seeing them in the snow is crazy. Amazing!
Thank you! I started making friends with the local hummingbirds and now they meet me for coffee just after sunrise! (The coffee is for me, of course. Caffeine is the last thing these guys need! Such amazing video, the best I have ever seen. God bless you!
This was amazing, and I was glued to the screen the entire time. I’m also an avid bird enthusiast and have been for over 45 years. Nothing even slightly compared to the creator of this video, but I’m obsessed with hummingbirds and watch and feed them every year. I’ve had several nests in my yard; mainly the Ruby Throated hummingbirds. I had no idea some don’t migrate from Canada. 🇨🇦 I also own a few parrots and have had them for over 45 years. It’s so nice to see someone with similar interests. Thank you, from Nova Scotia and happy new year. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥳
Beautiful video. Here in the desert southwest, we have hummingbirds all summer, before they head into Mexico for the winter. I’ve watched them from egg to flight. And they always come back. You helped me appreciate them more. I’ll put out more feeders and put in more flowering plants.
A friend sent this to me and I'm so glad she did. Loved every minute of this video. I really admired and wondered about all the work it must have taken to make it, because it was perfect in every way.... the story and content, photography, music and even your voice were all so enjoyable to experience. Thank you! I hope there will be many more.
This is amazing. I know what Eric means about feeling the loss. When our backyard friends have troubles it’s so sad. They really enrich our lives though.

This video is so validating. It’s how I feel about bird watching. I love to just sit there and watch the crows and the birds and the seagulls! I love it when people are passionate about nature & animals. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. 💚
The first time I saw a hummingbird in my butterfly & pollinator garden, I was so excited after 8 years of never seeing one in my yard! Best annual flower they love: ZINNIAS! ❤🎉
Compliment of the season Annie, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year with friends and family?. I usually love your comments on this channel 🌹🌹
THIS! Gave me such pleasure to watch...I was outdoors today in my neighborhood and noticed all the birds but especially the hummingbirds zip past. I know their vocalizations anywhere...they make me so happy. Thanks for this video ;)
Eric. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing this. I live in BC and have very similar passions to you. I've also been struggling with my mental health. Seeing you live so authentically has moved me. Again. Thank you. ❤
Hummingbirds are amazing. Thank you so much for the film! I have a number of feeders in our yard and will start searching for nearby nests if I'm lucky enough to find them!
this is one of the most exquisitely crafted videos i have ever seen. such a compelling story, and the attention to detail in both the video and the audio is superb. breathtaking.
The cold snap in January 2024 took my 3 resident female Anna's 💔. This year, I have heated feeders and a heat lamp. 🤞🏼 They really are quite distinguishable 😊. One female taught her babies to check around the bottom of the feeder before sitting on the feeder. It was lovely to see ❤. Thank you so much for sharing your passion❤❤.
Great video! Watching the hummingbirds in my yard is a form of serenity. I have 8 feeders out from late March through September while they're here. I only have the Ruby Throated ones, and they spend their summers here in Tennessee. There's a lady in So Cal who has a lot of hummingbirds she feeds and films. Her YT channel is Robbie & Gary Easy Gardening. I'm sure you'll enjoy watching her hummingbird videos. She has also created a bird garden for a variety of other birds as well as many areas for 'her hummers'.
Thank you for this. I had a hummer friend that visited a sat with me every evening. He would greet me (in my mind anyway) with with a quick flit around my had when I greeted him. He would fly back and forth, catching bugs ,drinking nectar from the flowers in my garden and my feeders and sit in one spot watching me. I talked to him, took pictures of him. This lasted a month or so, and one day, he didn't come anymore, and I felt that loss of a friend. There is a new bird now that comes around, I named Sweetness, but boy, do I miss Zip ( my old friends name 😊)
We had a tiny hummingbird nest on a tree branch right outside my window at the dentist I work for. It was so fun showing the patients. The nest was used for several years until a storm broke the branch. We put feeders on all our treatment room windows.
Really wonderful video! Every year I wait for the single baby hummingbird to arrive at my feeder. Have never seen more than one, though often two mature birds and the baby play in the sky.
Not only is the footage of the hummingbirds enticing …. Eric is a pleasure to listen to. Hearing his love for these birds is peaceful and gentle. Thank you Eric. ❤

Now back to the video. Hummingbirds amaze me.
Not only a Humming bird specialist but also a talented videographer.
Same here… got to pause before finishing watching, but I’m going to post and share this when I’m done watching.
That was a jaw dropping moment. Truly beautiful work.
Eric, you are a wonderful man and a fine friend to these incredible birds! Your work is lovely and valuable to all. Did you ever imagine the treasure in your own backyard? Just amazing! And thank you kindly for sharing said treasure. I look forward to more!
❤lovely pure joy!
Great photography. Hummingbirds are remarkable creatures. Living art.
You sir, have mastered what you were set upon this Earth to do. Big Thank You, from the citizens of this planet. Things which are created out of love, are always superior, in my opinion.
Amen. ❤
Una bendicion.
Cool! Mine buzz me too to tell me they need a refill. I love when they hover right in front of my face and look at me.
I loved this from start to finish. Some of the most beautiful hummingbird footage I have ever seen. And Eric is absolutely charming, and makes you want to go out and open your eyes and look around and see what you find!😊
This is beautifully emotional. Perfect. Thank you.
Thanks Gloria, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Costa Rica has fabulous hummingbirds to watch.
Thanks for the tip! I'll start trying that technique tomorrow morning!

"Amazing what you find when you stop and look around", those are wise words everyone should try to live by.
I have a heated hummingbird feeder, they really love drinking the warm nectar I make. Your a great person. 🕊️
How hot does it warm the water.
Where can I buy some?
Just be sure to sterilize it regularly (in a bird-safe way obviously), warm sugar water grows a lot of microbes.
What brand? I feed hummers all winter & it's quite a big endeavor to bring 5 - 10 32oz feeders indoors to warm up. It'd be great to have a warming feeder that the hummers actually like to drink from!
@@tammyjantzen9004I use hand warmers. I take a couple rubber bands and put a hand warmer on the bottom. Lasts for several hours.
Thank you
Oh, my little teeny birds! Beautiful, breathtaking, blessed. A special treat in the middle of winter. Thank you with all my heart.
They are such amazing creatures. I will put my feeders up again once it’s towards the ending of March. I love getting to watch them❤️
Thank you for sharing!
How is your day doing now?
It’s incredible both his passion and how it actually saved his life.I hope he is doing well now
Loved watching this. Such a nice man who, obviously, cares when the baby birds don't make it. A man with heart.
This is so inspiring after a whole week of self-pitying and losing track of my passions. Thank you!
Wow, thank you so much !!! Make more documentaries on hummingbirds, please. They are so amazing!
This video was a great new years find. It is truly a breath of fresh air and a gentle light in dark times. Thank you, Eric.
So delightful to watch
I love hummingbirds. The mighty warriors and survivors of the skies. So grateful for Eric do his own research on these amazing jewels.
Compliment of the season Diane, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year with friends and family?. I usually love your comments on this channel 🌹🌹
I happened to be recommended to watch this on my birthday. What a perfect present!!!🎁
This was such an incredible joy to watch!!!! Beyond grateful to Eric for what he has chosen to spend his life doing.... Loving wildlife-nature!!! Thank you, Eric. 🙏🏼
One of the best films ever. I remember seeing my first hummingbird visiting Canada and the East Kootenays in 1990.
Have a friend my drink.😂😂😂
Brilliant.
This is such a wonderful life this bloke has.
Hopefully we can get a full length version
I am blessed for sure.
Oh this was a joy to watch, what amazing little birds! Hope Bailey will build a new nest soon 💕
Thank you Eric! I learned a lot from your experience. 50% survival rate for the species is eye-opening. I also found myself cheering for Solo ☺
Imagine how peaceful and beautiful our world would be with more caring people like Eric. I genuinely enjoyed this video. Thank you, Eric!
Compliment of the season Gloria, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year with friends and family?. I usually love your comments on this channel 🌹🌹
I was totally captivated. The photography is utterly fantastic!
I hope she is not in much pain.
a gift beyond measure...THANK YOU!
It’s interesting how some hummingbirds overwinter. Here, in Georgia, they leave every winter. Thank you for such a thought provoking film.
The hummingbirds leave Salt Lake City late in the fall and return in the spring.❤❤❤the video and the beautiful birds. How is Sophie?
There are hundreds of species of hummingbirds. Some migrate and others don’t. In Oregon we have some of them year round and others are only there in the summer. :)
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. Thank you for doing this!
God's beautiful creatures never are boring. Thank you!
I can't say nearly enough but I'm totally awestruck by your work, skills and care for these hummingbirds
This touched me to the core of my being. It brings tears to my eyes.
If you focus on the hummingbird’s head, even in slow motion, it hardly moves! Such perfection in Nature! Thank you God
Just so very wonderful! Thank you Eric for sharing your love for and knowledge of these precious birds!
Such beautiful creatures. I enjoy watching them here. I will have my feeders back up when it’s March. Do you get to see them where you live?
If I was a critic, I say this presentation was an absolute triumph. Brilliance in both cinematography and storytelling.
Wow, thank you Eric for sharing your amazing filming, insight and joy caring for these precious creatures. Bless you and the hummers!
Best Hummingbird documentary I've ever seen ❤
Am birder from the UK and never seen a humming bird, i need to get a flight and go see these stunning tiny birds, fantastic video 🥰👍🇬🇧
This is amazing. I know what Eric means about feeling the loss. When our backyard friends have troubles it’s so sad. They really enrich our lives though.
How Beautiful -- We need more of this to create the NEW WORLD we all deserve!!!
Compliment of the season Delilah, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year with friends and family?. I usually love your comments on this channel 🌹🌹
Omg! We need more men like Eric in this world! Wowee! That film is National Geographic quality! And he built an elevator for his dog! I’m happy crying. This man is amazing. Eric, thank you for your contributions to making this world a better place. ❤
Eric is the kind of Drink I'd have a Friend with , Any day 🥂. What a great truly story 😊
Lovely! My parents introduced us to bird watching when I was a kid. They will love this! Thank you for your faithfulness!
Compliment of the season Annie, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year with friends and family?. I usually love your comments on this channel 🌹🌹
Hummingbirds are amazing to watch. I love watching them
They are like jewels, tiny and beautiful!
I love them and I love this video ❤
THIS! Gave me such pleasure to watch...I was outdoors today in my neighborhood and noticed all the birds but especially the hummingbirds zip past. I know their vocalizations anywhere...they make me so happy. Thanks for this video ;)
I appreciate the way you spoke of loss and joy (@14:00). Your outlook and your life are inspiring. Thank you for sharing. Thank you, Eric and Ryan!
Thanks for watching!!
Aren’t they satisfying to watch? ❤️
Eric. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing this. I live in BC and have very similar passions to you. I've also been struggling with my mental health. Seeing you live so authentically has moved me.
Again. Thank you. ❤
That was incredible! Beautiful birds and amazing work. Brought me to tears. Thank you for doing what you do and bringing a voice to these creatures
They are exciting to watch indeed. I find this channel really satisfying.
Wonderful footage! I can understand your passion for these little lovelies!
They are such wonderful creatures, wouldn’t you agree?
I teared up when Solo flew away 🥹❤️ Amazing!!!
What a fantastic little film. Beautiful work Eric and all the crew!!
The cold snap in January 2024 took my 3 resident female Anna's 💔.
This year, I have heated feeders and a heat lamp. 🤞🏼
They really are quite distinguishable 😊. One female taught her babies to check around the bottom of the feeder before sitting on the feeder. It was lovely to see ❤.
Thank you so much for sharing your passion❤❤.
Bless you!
