    loved the video--one thing I found that works if the underglaze doesn't completely cover is to use underglaze of the same color to fill in voids using a small artist's brush.

    I've looked at these on CCAC before, but have't tried them yet, I will now. Can put them on a pre-applied UG background color, though I'd bisque the background color first. Can 'fill in' designs with additional UGs to add more color. Can carve around designs to 'lift' them from the surface. Whoa, so many ideas. You rock, love your vids.

    Great video! I had no idea tissue transfers even existed. If I saw "Decals" on a menu list, I would have passd it by. I always think Currier & Ives mass production plates when I see decals. So, I'm excited over this! Your instructions are very clear. And thanks for holding things up close to the camera!

    Screen print is another technique similar to this but it works more on flat surface clay. Also you can take t-shirt/fabric images and transfer them to a piece of flat clay , wood, metal , glass as well. Most material to most material toner transfers work though some are harder to transfer then others.. So not only can you make your own positive/negative 3d mold impressions with other video methods but you can copy any picture/image design over to. Saves a lot of time rather then drawing, it would be like saying drawing is equivalent to sculpting your 3d mold impressions from scratch in other videos you had.

    Has anyone here tried this technique without removing the tissue paper while it's wet? I'm wondering if it might come off by itself as it dries. I have tremors which I work around so I'm always looking for ways to compensate. Also, if you're putting these on bone dry greenware does it help to moisten the surface first? I have a feeling that Jessica gets really good results on leather hard because the sponge AND the clay are moistening the glaze from both directions at once. But I could be wrong.

    How do you glaze something like that?

  • @sam111880
    @sam111880 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I used a similar method to transfer images i printed off computer to t-shirts. Its called toner transfer which works on fabrics , woods, glass,metals,..etc pretty much any material. So you probably already know but going to mention it anyway you can computer design your images and print them off rather then sending away for them. My issue i was wondering about is the ink or colored printer ink if its going to hold /not ruin colors when firing in the kiln??? I knew how to do the method don't know how kiln will handle the designs and if you put a clear type of glaze before you fire them to seal them in? As well as have you used them to eat on with a glass glaze i imagine you could eat on them but worried about the ink/paint being an issue?

  • @sam111880
    @sam111880 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    so toner transfer is the equivalent to molding/casting of 3D impressions for building designs on your clay. Just drawing/painting from scratch and sculpting from scratch would be the lowest level of making it from scratch which is very time consuming and wasteful if you already have a design you want to copy. I am a little shakey on which ink, paints will work in kiln as well on what stuff is safe to eat on...sure you could glass glaze it but if you scratch the glass that ink could at some point get into your food. If its just going to be earthware for plants , art decor, or other display only based ceramics then it won't matter as long as it works in the kiln. So its a kiln question boiling down to it and edible safety ?

    Hi Jessica, love your videos. I bought the same exact transfers as the ones you are using here...and they wouldn't transfer AT. ALL. I tried for four hours, using your exact method on greenware as well as on freshly pressed slabs...and NADA. I wonder if you have had any difficulty with any of the transfers, and if so, were you able to solve the issue? Thanks!

    I did this and all was fine. I dipped in clear glaze after it was bisqued however it was all run after the glaze. How do I prevent that? Should the clear glaze be sponged on instead of dipped? Any help is appreciated. Thanks and I always enjoy your videos!

    • @JessicaPutnamPhillips
      @JessicaPutnamPhillips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can depend on what glaze you used and what temp you fired too. I fire to cone 5 or 6 without any fluxing(running) issues. Also if your clear glaze has zinc in it that can cause them to run. Try a zinc free clean and see if that helps.
