I started watching your videos when I started teaching a high school ceramics class a few years ago. You are AMAZING, and I am soooooooo grateful to you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge. Thank you!!
Hi, really helpful video. I'm a printmaker trying to learn how to add my designs to bisque fired forms which I can buy. Is rice paper better for transferring than newsprint. Also do I need to thicken or change the underglaze to screenprint it.
It all sounds so easy ans I will try it very soon, But a few questions. What is the purpose of the black first? You use the term "bind" What does that mean and must it be black? The last part you used white underglaze to "charge" again, what does that mean and does it have to be white and does that color become part of the design?
I just tested screen printing underglaze onto rice paper and onto newsprint. The rice paper ones turned out a bit faded. Is there a reason you need the slip to help transfer the graphic? Couldn’t you just dampen the transfer once u put it into the clay and press in with rubber rib? Basically all the same steps minute slip?
NEED HELP! I have tried making monoprinting. Have used rice paper and newspaper bought from an art supplies store. After it dries the underglaze cracks. I have added "medium" to the underglaze- thought it would help. Not enough. If I use the homemade transfer immediately there is no problem, but I want to make the transfers ahead of time. What is my problem?
Thank you so much Jessica for this very thorough and wonderfully presented demo of underglaze transfers.
Thank you Jessica. I have only heard about stencils and I look forward to using this creative process on my clay creations.
Love the monoprint idea! So many possibilities with that process. TFS!!
You are such an awesome teacher, so clear I know I can do this by following you detailed instruction. Thank you!!
Wonderful. Thank you so much. I watch your videos all the time .

This was so helpful. Your designs are beautiful! Thanks :)
This is such a coincidence! I was learning about underglaze transfers last week at my pottery class! Thank you!
Wonderful!

great explanation :) I love this ceramics instructor
Super helpful. I never knew that Strathmore sold newsprint, so thank you for that.

Very informative. Thanks for sharing!😀

CAN YOU USE A DIFFERENT COLOR UNDERGLAZE OR SIP OTHER THAN WHITE TO CONNECT DESIGN TO THE CLAY?
Love your video! Yes, we all make messes! 😆
Loved....thank you!
Really good demo thank you
Can you leave the paper on thru the bisque fire?
How do you get the paper off when some of it sticks on. If you could help that'd be great.

This is exactly what I would expect to happen. Thanks for feedback.

This video will show you how to make them so you can use them later.
For all that work, why not just paint the underglaze on the clay?
Free painting patterns is hard+ sometimes clay figure is curved so double hard to be consistent
Love the instruction but the sound effects are annoying and have nothing to do with the subject matter!
