love the dicking around , the WTF , and especially the fantastic , basic delivery , Ive learnt loads of new tricks , (Carb cleaner through the jets ) which saved the full carb strip , which I dont think most people look forward to , as the bike designers make them so awkward to remove , perfect THANK YOU
Interesting... I ultrasonically cleaned and rebuilt the carbs on my GSXR11M only to find very similar symptoms on cyl 4 when hot. I'd never considered the air jets until watching this and will now look forward to fighting them off the airbox (again) and going through them... You have also taught me that ultrasonic is not the gold standard of carb cleaning... Thank you!
Amazing. . . I really thought it was going to be leaking o rings on the float valve. I’ve learnt something here Jim, thank you for taking the time to show us all this diagnosis and repair/correction of the carb issues. I never miss any of your vids, I’m a bike mechanic, was a car mechanic for 35 years but graduated to a motorcycle workshop 5 years ago and now dealing with a lot of carbureted bikes.. it was always fuel injection when I was on cars.
Hi Jim, keep up the "wafflage", you drop good knowledge and experience on us all with it. Some of us might already know some of it, but others don't. I'm a new subscriber, catching up with your work.
Good, very good bit of explanation Jim. If you forget the thread lock on those throat covers it will eventually ingest a screw and catastrophic failure. We have a custom bike in where this happened,
Love ya video mate I have a 1999 R1 25 years now I sent a comment on one of you're other videos I did my own carb clean & set . She runs fantastic. But I didn't no about the air jet thingy Thanks for the info Cheer's mate Next time I dive in their I will check it out But for now she runs sweet as "
Hi Jim . I’m keeping up to date with your work on the Thunderace and good work it is to. I’m having an issue with my Ace smelling really rich on idle . Bike runs really well apart from a little flat spot at 1500rpm when pulling away. Everything checks out ok , I just need to sort these two little niggles.
I know the camera mic's aren't great, but after you cleaned the float bowls out, and had it running, the first time you blipped the throttle it sound so much better. Keep the waffle coming, I learn something on every one of your videos, so off to Patreon.
Thanks Mate 👍 If you do become a Patreon, make sure you get yourself on the Discord Server (Chat Group) it's a fantastic community of great people. That's where I hang out 99% of the time 👍
I've watched quite a few videos of yours as i own a couple of kwaks. You've been super useful for me to start thinking about how I'm trying to diagnose a problem. I just wish i didn't live so far from your workshop and you didn't have such a long waiting list of jobs😂. I hope you have some apprentices you plan on passing this years of knowledge to (apart from TH-cam)
as always interesting, i gave you a mention and linked the channel in the last video i did, just because i stole your tag line "i hope that makes sense" lol, hope all is well
I love the videos mate keep them coming do you do work on 125cc new bikes And question I’ve wanted to ask is I can hear pigeons in the background do you have a pigeon loft
😂 I try and avoid the smaller capacity bikes. I've got a family of White Doves Living under the solar panels on the workshop roof. It's just white noise to me now 😁
What would cause a condition on a carb bike, particularly an R6 where you take it off the sidestand, leaning to vertical and the idle speed momentarily drops then picks back up to normal idle speed? All jets clear, air circuits clear, pilot fuel screws set as factory. No other issues etc.
@@maciek600r I set the floats. They're set to Yamaha spec. It's also had new float needle valves in it too. The bike runs perfect apart from this niggle. I did think it might be fuel level. It doesn't do it all the time either. Maybe I'll increase the float levels by a fraction to reduce the fuel height, see how that behaves.
Zaworki iglicowe OEM czy aftermarketowe? Aftermarketowe mają inną wagę niż OEM, zazwyczaj są cięższe przez co wlewa się więcej paliwa przy tej samej wysokości pływaka.
@@maciek600r well I've had the carbs off, the fuel level is 100% set to Yamaha spec and it still did the revs drop when lifting off the sidestand. However with the fuel level where it was, there was hardly any movement on the floats. The tang had to be bent significantly to get it to the correct level. So that was the float level set to 5.5 mm. These carbs never came from the factory with the float tangs bent like that. Anyway, it still did it with a low fuel level/high float height. Before any adjustment, the float tangs were pretty straight and the float height was 3.5mm. As the carbs were flooding with them set to this (filling the crankcase when stood) and I wasn't happy with the float height being sat at 5.5mm with the revs drop still happening, I've set the float height to 4.1mm and see how it goes from there. Also I don't want it starved of fuel at high rpm so another reason why I didn't want the fuel level set too low. Inside the carburettors look immaculate, all jets clear, everything is fine. They're literally like new. Like I said, bike runs fine, no rev hang etc, just that niggling problem, which I'll now ignore.
@toolzandnewideas 16k miles in 32 years, if I'm lucky 20 years of riding left, a tank of cleaner through it every 5 years, who wants to live forever... 😄

100% agree!
I agree more Jim's worth more the Gordon Ramsay equivalent of the motorcycle technician
Bloody good stuff Jim, i have been a motorcycle mechanic 30+ years and learnt something today.

Best MC repair channel on youtube
Got you loud and clear Jim. Vid hasn’t ended just curious if you flush the tank. Ha there you go! Good man 👍🏻

Spectacular bit of troubleshooting. You are a true master of your trade and well worth your shop right.
Thanks 👍
Love watching the repairs. No disrespect you are the man. But damn if I don't crave some waffles after watching.
Thanks!
Go on son! Wow!
That's amazing! Thank you so much 🙏🙏😁
I had never thought of quick cleaning the carbs like that, I learned another thing. Thank you Jim 👍
Joy of carbs sorted through knowledge and can be pain if not set up right

Remember the vent tube was off the air box. That would allow unfiltered air into the carbs.
Brilliant thank you for this vlog. My 1991 cbr1000f sounds exactly the same and has a small backfire every now and then.
I seem to remember you said that any time you even touch the carbs they should be balanced.
Its all about trust in what the technician tells you. I trust you completely not to feed us any sh..e great channel btw
Love a happy ending!
Nice work and a great result 👍🏻.....carbs, love em.....but not manky old carbs !

Great video Jim. Really valuable diagnostic tips
Jim, you waffle as much as you want. You're the best.
Great to watch and Very informative, as always. 😎
As you described the fuel filler issue I was thinking my Triumph is a pain in the arse for that.
Awesome channel. Just subscribed. Keep up the great work 👍

good one
Me 3 minutes into any one of Jim's videos - "DO A COMPRESSION TEST" 😁
Brilliant video!
You mentions float needle seats at the start, but didnt need to take them out. Is there a way of removing them without damaging them?
Looked like there was an 8k error code on the tacho?
What do younadjust these float height to?? That fuel level recommends 17 to 18 mm but they don't give an accurate placement for that gauge
Just a thought and only if possible, the air intake sucks air in so wouldn’t you want to blow it out rather than in?
The carb cleaner you used seems like good stuff, what brand was it?
I love the videos mate keep them coming do you do work on 125cc new bikes
