Why I left Malaysia and moved to Australia

  • We packed our lives into five bags and moved countries in one month. We felt God calling us into a new season in a new country. As I reflect, I realize that all I have been doing for the past decade has been a divine set up for this very moment. Before I really put my foot down to start this new chapter, I wanted to close my previous chapter by remembering some of these pivotal moments that have made me who I have become today. It was clearly God at work this whole time as I just chose to stay in the process and not quit. So thankful for everyone who has believed in me and sown into me, especially in my creative infancy days at ‪@dmingthing‬.
Can't wait for what's next. It can only get better from here. Let's go!!!!

I once studied in Australia and fell in love with the country even before i arrived on its land. For some reasons, I came back to my home country but never ever gave up the belief that I’ll be back someday in the future. Also after travelling to a few other countries, it reinforced me that Australia is the place where I’d love to build my family. This year is gonna be the year. I’m speeding up making things happen. Your story is encouraging. Wish you all the best in the new chapter of your lives❤️

God has really blown my mind. I arrived in Melbourne last week after leaving my home country of South Africa. I gave away all that I had, and arrived here alone with 2 suitcases.
I don’t know anyone here. As daunting as it sounds, I’ve had unbelievable peace. God has taken care of everything.
Before I left, the Holy Spirit made it clear to me that I’ll have everything that I need, so there is no need to worry about anything. One week later, and I’m still in perfect peace. I haven’t made any new friends yet, but I’m confident that once I start work, things will start to change for me. I’m excited for what the Lord is doing in my life.
My theme for the year is Be Still; “still” meaning “relax”. God has everything worked out for my good.

I've been living in Melbourne for over 15 years and I'm considering moving to Kuala Lumpur. Been there once, I loved it. Melbourne is not like how it once was. It has turned into a police state, I'm sure you know that by now. During lockdown it was a nightmare. They were prisoning people in their own apartments! Also now, if you're an Australian citizen and you plan to live elsewhere due to the corruption, if you come back to Australia for a visit, they will prison you and not let you out anymore. Trust me, you will end up going back to Malaysia. Australia is highly taxed and very expensive. They're making it difficult for their own citizens to live here. Elderly people are not being paid much pension to pay for their rent. Hence, getting kicked out. Salary will not cover all your expenses. I have worked here mainly in banks, and still, most money goes in bills. Melbourne is very expensive. The lifestyle gets depressing. Everyone is struggling with depression. Citizenship is difficult to get. This city will take from you more than it can ever give. Australians are now leaving this country to go live in Thailand and other easy going Asian countries.

The same thing has happened in Malaysia lol… if you are genuinely concerned about freedom then Malaysia is not the country to move to. Journalists have been prosecuted for exercising free speech in Malaysia. And also, Malaysia also had lockdowns during covid. You couldn’t even get out of your house other than buying groceries. Australia is still a country of freedom despite what has happened and you should acknowledge that there many countries that have had it worse.

Grass is greener on the other side. For me at least as a Malaysian student in Sydney, I freaking love Sydney because it reminds me a lot of American cities but if America was cities were well maintained, clean and have good infrastructure. Its a perfect blend between old and new. Everything feels so picturesque in Melbourne and Sydney cbd. It made me wonder why many Asian cities are built so "coldly" with glass and steels skyscrapers. There's a certain charm to Melbourne and Sydney especially with their old area that reminds me of classic American movies.

Hey D. It was something we’ve been sitting in thought and prayer about for a few years now. It’s a combination of many things really, I’d say mainly was learning to hear God’s voice and discerning in the spirit. With different things unfolding in our lives, and us hearing from God that it was time, we were convicted us to go for it. It was not an easy decision, but we got so convicted that it became clear that it was something that we needed to do.
We love it here, but we also love Malaysia very much. But most importantly for us was to be where God was calling us to go.
God’s heart will always be to bless us abundantly, and we just need to be obedient and position ourselves well to receive it.
Hope this helps! Encourage you to really just pray about it and perhaps seek some wise counsel from leaders/mentors!
It’s gonna be great, D! Stoked for what’s ahead of you!

Hey Zozo. You’re right on that. I realized I might not have communicated that as clearly as I wanted to. Thanks for pointing it out!
I think your conclusions somewhat nails it but only for me personally, as I’ve personally felt that I was called to come to Australia in this season of my life. So it felt like I couldn’t stay in MY any longer and needed follow the call of God in my life.

This was so encouraging. I am literally moved to tears.
I am an international student in London and I've been struggling financially and also with trying to get my first job. It's been a rough time. In my head i know that God is good and He is always going to take care of us but I've been finding myself being angry with God and lashing out at Him. It has seriously affected my walk with Him.
