yeah it was especially relatable when he talked about expecting Computer science to be more fun rather than just maths and some boring garbage, and that week 5 thing probably exists because the lecturers ramp up the workload from 0-100 real quick. I remember coming into Quantitative maths 3rd lecture in and it was like the material was sped up by 10x
This. This is exactly what Cambridge is like. The intensity of the work, the drinking, week 5, the realisation that every student around you was once the best in their school. My time here has been exactly like this (with a fuckton more rowing though) EDIT: Nah you slandered my college I take it all back
I just started my phd at Cambridge this term and I've been mainly in the lab everyday all day.. post grad life is certainly different than undergrad but your video gave me so much inspiration to go out there and enjoy the experience of being in this magical place. we only have it once in our lives. what a beautiful video.
I graduated ten years ago - this video brings back a lot of memories and is unexpectedly moving, kudos! PS: take it from me, go to lectures. Every one. You’re right that in a perfect world they’re not the most efficient way of gaining information. But the world isn’t perfect, and attending will save you work/mental stress in the long run
@@Omie01 There is more to a university course than lectures. practical classes, supervisions, support etc. And I do actually go to lectures because I have a severe case of FOMO, but often I believe my learning would be much more efficient without the travel cost, and where I can pause ans research in my own time
rarely like or comment but this was just amazing, especially because i didnt expect anything, it was just a random video that popped up. Found a true gem of comedy
From a recent Cambridge grad, awesome video! Just one thing… don’t let this video discourage you about girton!! It’s only 15 mins by bike which for Cambridge standards is far away but anywhere else is a normal commute. Lovely grounds and people. Other than that looks like you had a pretty awesome first year, wish you all the best!
As someone who was born in Cambridge and just finished their first year at uni this video portrays both Cambridge and the highs and lows of uni amazingly well ❤
As a person who chose not to go to uni and upmost despised it. I’m actually freshly disproven about the life and culture there is to be had. I probably would have went to uni for the experience however I am not an academic individual at all. I rather learn through trial and error and practical tasks which is perfectly normal. I started my level 4 apprenticeship a couple months back after searching for nearly a year. I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t get to experience uni however me and all my mates still go out on weekends, hit the gym in the week and attract all these memories whilst doing our apprenticeships. Not sure why I’ve yapped ok about this for so long however yeah, thought I’d share my experience and an alternate route to uni.
Holy Fuck. That was hands-down amazing. The storytelling, the relatability, the videography, the humour, everything was just on point (apart from the North Acton accom slander). Keep it up bro, good shit - inspired me to improve my own content asw
This was very nostalgic for me having graduated from cambridge cs in 2023 :) very well done on the video! (And also excellent song choice at the end :) )
Really REALLY good video. as a current gcse student who wants to pursue compsci, this puts a bit more perspective into what university actually is. Wishing you fame with this channel and further success in life and Cambridge!
This is a very cool video! I visited Jesus college before, and I am currently trying to apply to cambridge! The TMUA is so challenging for me, I've been doing so many past papers for it, I really hope it works out
I like the effort you’ve put into making this video, very professional. Slow down the pace a little and it’s perfect. I’ve subbed, looking forward to more
From someone a decade further down the road, it's worth remembering that you're not in the outside world, you are still a kid and that none of what you're doing really matters. Don't get too worried about it and enjoy it while you can.
I don't usually comment but first watched this like a week ago, now moving out is getting real and I am watching it again. Why? Because it's SUCH a good video.
Wow. This was an interesting peek into the life of a cambridge student. I did my undergrad at a much smaller uni, currently doing my msc at Durham. The matriculation process is amazing, and the workload is only manageable with effective time management. I've learned the hard way to not be too hard on yourself and accept that regardless of privilege, we are all human. Best of luck, computer nerd! Regards, A psychology nerd :)
What a ride of a video, Hayden!! Loved it all the way through, from the storytelling and humour to the editing. Respect for filming everything on the phone!
This was such a real take on the first year of uni. I started my physics course at uni this year and went thru the exact same learning process as you did. Crazy how that 'complete freedom' that you get when starting uni affected you in almost exactly the same way as it did me. Great vid!
I am almost done with my Bachelors, and the last few minutes of the video really hit hard. 4 years of uni passed so fast and I wish I enjoyed every bit of it.
Inspiring performances on display here and an excellent life lesson or two. This would have helped me massively before my first year, and I might do something similar for my second year. Nice job Hayden, be proud of this video, its really good.
I start in Oct at Girton and this honestly made me feel a lot better about it, I’m feeling nervous and excited but mostly nervous about making friends and you seem to have a great group! Loved this video
This was such a good video. Im hoping to start Uni in 2 years, but I still don't really know what to expect. Not Cambridge, but either way This was such a good visualisation for Uni. The editing was amazing, and the music taste apealed to me very much (Pink Floyd n Led Zeppelin, my 2 Favourites). Keep up the good work, mate!
Incredible video! As someone who just graduated uni studying CS too, this captured the chaotic Freshers uni experience in a nostalgic and wholesome way. Keep it up bro! 🤩
as an extremely introvert cambridge student i can confirm the cambridge drinking culture effect is real. This is my 6th year as a cambridge student, i have never been to any of the clubs never did pre with anyone anywhere (because i dont go clubbing and very rarely go to formals) never been to varsity, i moved into cambridge never properly drank any alcohol before and thought I will forever stay that that way, but because of the 3 days 'freshers week' now 6 years into my cambridge life i constantly exceed the 14 unit limit just by drinking alone every night before sleep.
i agree with you on the Lectures bit its deffo NOT the most effective way to learn especially when most of these teachers just straight up read what's on the board word for word and lectures are recorded and sent to all the students so you're just sat there thinking "why do I even go lectures?"
Didn’t know what to expect but this shit was fire
i died at tom
Okay what the fuck; why was this no joke one of the best videos I’ve watched on TH-cam

actually a really quite good summary of a lot of peoples first year and the video prospective students should watch
