    I have just finished cleaning the carburetor on our 99 Kawasaki prairie 400 4x4 (identical to yours, green, and everything). The idle jet was clogged, and it would only idle with partial choke, as well. Thanks to the clear instructions and details in your video, I was able to get it fixed easily and quickly with minimal cost! (Carb cleaner)

    I have the same 4 wheeler and this was great! Followed each step from taking off carb to reassembling it. Fired right up and is running great. Thanks for the video.

    Without going into detail, I wish I had seen that 3 weeks ago, could have saved myself some money, EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!!

    Great step by step detail. I came across this while doing some searching and realizing that this quad has both primary and secondary "main jets". You stated what size the secondary was and didn't replace it. I was so hoping you would do the same on primary because I'm trying to figure out the ratio/number increase/decrease between the two. If you remember and have insight... Please advise. I have a full jet relevant kit and can't figure out what primary size to put in? 🤯

      The two sizes I mentioned in the video are 135 and 85

    So lreave a little slack in throttle cable so buterfly fully closes and yet there is some free play in cable , right ?

    • @atvsanonymous
      @atvsanonymous  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally up to you. I like to leave basically no free play for better throttle response.

      @@atvsanonymous on my 2005 360 4x4 I'm unable to shorten its length so throttle is tad open and idle is too high. I tried adjusting of the throttle screw on nandle bar but that work either. Its a new oem carb.

      Loosen it at the carb and give it more slack?

    Is the 99 prairie 400 carburetor differnet from the 98

      I'm not sure. Chances are if it has the same engine, it has the same carburetor.

    I have same 4 wheeler .shop replaced carburetor cranks well idles well but just passed 1/2 throttle rpms stop risen no stumbling or busting just stays thereany clues what to check air/fuel mix or jet which jet controlls top end throttle maybee spark plug

      Hard to say check main jet which is the smaller one with the bigger hole in the middle where the needle goes through. Check the air filter. Check to make sure the throttle cable isn't binding somewhere.

    Ive done all of this. Raised a jet in size from advice from service person. Get everything in and start quad… won’t stay running unless I’m on the throttle. Won’t idle. Seems like I should go back to the old jets and start from zero and clean the whole carb again . Any advice?

      You could try eBay for a cheap complete carburetor brand new. Things to check:. Carbureted engines take a minute or two to warm up before they will idle correctly on their own. The choke will need to be on at least part way until it warms up all the way. Also, the throttle adjustment on the side of the engine can be adjusted so you don't have to hold the throttle with your thumb.

      @@atvsanonymous thank u very much. Yea I do have the choke on and it was warmed up for at least 15 mins. Starting and restarting several times and taking the tank off (no screwdriver to fit under the carb to adjust ) fuel screw. I had it at 1 1/2 turns. Each time adjusting a 1/2 turn till it literally was almost out at one point. That’s when it was running or staying on. I was working on it and a buddy of mine said I didn’t need to mess w the idle speed adjustment. ( on the right side of the carb) I’m looking at it and it’s fully closed . Carb is totally out on the quad. Doesn’t that need to be open a little bit so u see the small holes in the carb? To let air flow? I’m thinking I need to slightly adjust that black knob IN to allow air when u don’t push the throttle open. It just dies when u let off the throttle. I’ve taken this all apart n it appears clean. Air , soaked in berrymans all night. Jets and carb. . Seems like it’s gotta be something easy to fix here w out taking it to the dang dealer to fix. Thanks for your quick reply

      Put the other jets back in after cleaning . Starts on first pull and idles nicely. But I give it gas and it backfires a few times and wants to die when I give it throttle. Don’t even have to use the choke. I’m at a loss. Maybe the Valves need adjusted. Ugh

      @@seanhuntsman7834 sounds like either too much or too little gas. either the float valve isn't creating a good seal and too much gas is getting in or the mixture screw isn't where it needs to be. they set it to the correct mixture at the factory and don't expect you to mess with it at all. also make sure you have good flow of fuel into the bowl. open up the drain on the bottom and see if it continues to be replenished as it leaks out. if it stops leaking out after a few seconds, something is restricting the flow of fuel and you need to check the float valve to see if it is sticking and the fuel line to see if there is a clog or restriction somewhere.

      @@atvsanonymousI have a 1999 kawasaki prairie 400 4x4 automatic now. At first it wouldn't crank up unless sprayed carb cleaner in the intake tube and would only run with the choke fully on. The original petcock/ fuel selector was clogged up. Also found the pick up tubes were fa.ling apart literally. Replaced it with one from another tank for now until I can get a new one. Took the carb off and took it apart and sprayed everything with cab cleaner, I didn't pull the jets out just sprayed cleaner through them. I put everything back on, no crank found trash in the fuel line. Cleaned that out and got it to crank up and run and idle without the choke on. Now there is fuel pouring out of the over flow hose. Do you think some trash made it to the needle and seat?

    • @atvsanonymous
      @atvsanonymous  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@darryladams519 probably. Something is making the needle not seat properly. If lightly tapping on the carburetor doesn't work to get it seated, you will need to open it up and clean it out or maybe even replace the needle if you haven't already.
