I remember him beating Stephen Hendry in the final of the UK Championship in 1988 and then he won the next ranking tournament, the Mercantile Credit Classic as well. Those 2 victories got him back in the top 16 at the age of 46.

He had a renaissance in his career he seemed so old to me back then but now I’m older than that lol !!

Wonderful upload of one of the game's great players. The commentary Doug gives really puts this in perspective for the modern game: he explains really very well why the game was different in the 70s and early 80s, the focus much more on the grind. For a Welshman, a mere kid when Doug was in his prime (and Ray Reardon in his twilight) just hearing him refer to the 'cush' brought back memories of the snooker club. That, and the pint of beer in front of Doug during a BBC interview. Ah...the memories....!!
