I've had various Sigma Art lenses over the years and they're top notch. My alltime favorite is the 85mm f1.4. I've had positive experience with every Sigma lens.
both are great lenses but they are very different. Sony is smaller, lighter but only f2.5. Sigma is f1.4 if that makes a difference to you. Better low light performer and better dof
Perfect videos and great aesthetics of yours my friend. Yes, i love the 50mm focal length . In fact its the best . Proud Lumix user since 2008!. Never looked back.
Your images and video footage are simply stunning - thank you for all you do! I've got the Sigma 24 / 85 combo and the 50 looks to be the perfect mate to complete the trio. I'm seriously considering selling my Sony glass - the Sigma's are just soooo good and require much less post-processing.
You won’t. Aside from the CA when shooting bright high contrast scenes it’s outstanding. The new Sigma has a CA issues too, so it comes down to size, weight, and cost. There’s a slight focal range difference so you’ll get a big more compression, but there’s also a minor aperture difference so you’ll get slightly less shallow dof. The Zeiss is an aging lens now but it’s still one of the best ~50mm lenses for the system. One of the sharpest lenses I’ve ever used.
I think besides the weight difference I don't see enough of a difference with this lens to upgrade my original Sigma 50mm f1.4 ART (EF on MC-11). Yeah my original one weighs near a kilo on my A7iv but optically I find it to be just so good. Plus I can throw it on one of my old Canon DSLR cameras as well. The Sigma 85mm on the other hand, what a vast improvement.
if you only shoot photography, than this is kind of similar to the original optically. Auto focus for photography and especially video is totally different - 100 times better
Great review! How does the focus noise compares to the older model? I want to get it to record classical musicians live and some performances are very quiet... (the older model was perfect in terms of noise) Thank you! 🙏
maybe not so obviously visible, especially if you didn't compare the images side by side. Sigma is however in a different class, higher class all together
Unfortunately its a pretty niche focal length :( Would love to see either a 135mm f1.4 or 105mm f1.4 for fun! But in truth, I really hope their next lens is their update to the 70-200 f2.8
Thank you Pav for this informative video ! It looks very sharp looking to your images. I have not yet mid range focal length lenses. Would you suggest me to get this 50mm 1.4 or the Sigma 28-70 Contemporary instead ? (I mainly do landscape but will do family and portraits as well)
28-70 is more versatile option overall. This is 50mm has got wider aperture, it is a faster lens. Only you can decide which one of these two is better for you and for what you are going to use it for
I already have a lens 50mm F1.8, and i want invest for second lens. Do you prefer lens sigma 28-70 F2.8 or Lumix 24-105 F4 for video ? I am confused to decide sigma or lumix 😅
Great review and this lens looks amazing. So tempting. But then I would have to trade my Zeiss 55mm to get this and I like the size of Zeiss which is perfect for my smaller gimbal. 😢 Decisions are so so tough..😅
What is the best lens for different events it is the 85mm or that new 50mm 1.4? I used and happy of my kit lens the 24-105mm f4 very versatile but I need some prime lens too 🙂
Sigma 40mm F1.4, for those who don't mind bigger size, gives a superior image. The 40mm has absolutely NO abboration in normal situations and has unbelieable sharpness and contrast. It's far sharper than my 105mm F1.4. I think the 50 is nice but ultimately I wish the magic of the 40mm was replicated in a smaller lens. It truly has a magical pop to it from having no flaws.
Sigma 40mm DG HSM is a lens designed for DSLR, not mirrorless cameras like this one. I like 40mm but it might not give the "right" look in certain shooting scenarios

you really can't go wrong with Sigma these days
Thanks Pav, lovely images, great review as always, the one I have been waiting for!
thank you!
Hey there, I really like your content between this sigma 50 1.4 and the new Sony GM 50 1.4 which one would you consider buying?
I never used Sony 50mm f1.4 so I can't really compare. I'd go for Sony f1.2, I have actually
Hi Pav. If you had to choose between this Sigma and Sony 50mm 2.5, which one would you go for? And which one is sharper? Thanks
both are great lenses but they are very different. Sony is smaller, lighter but only f2.5.
Sigma is f1.4 if that makes a difference to you. Better low light performer and better dof
@PavSZ I actually know the technical differences but I wonder about the real life results and image quality. The sharpness. The resolution etc
@@SelimKrdy I think they will be very similar at f2.5
@@PavSZ thanks. Great video btw
Definitely appreciate your honesty
Thank you Dan
Thanks for the review! Been debating on getting a 50mm and just got my first Sigma lens (16-28mm Contemporary) and love it…might have to pick this up
The 16-28 and a 50mm prime sounds like a really fun kit!
Thank you!
I have 50 and 16-28 with all the time - great combo

if you like 24 and 85mm, this will be a great add on to your kit
awesome review with amazing samples from this lens. im a newbie and I have a question.
would you recommend this lens for an Aps-c body ?
thank you!
absolutely
Do I need another lens in the 50mm focal range? Probably not, but here I am.
Great shots and grading of the footage.
there is never enough 50mm lenses that one can have 😉
Thank you!
I just bought the 55 Zeiss… I hope I won’t regret it!
Great review, as usual 🎉

55mm is still an awesome lens

Great review as always Pav, already pre ordered it. Can't wait to get my greedy mittle mits on it :) This will be my do it all lens!
Good choice!

Thank you! 🙏
there is no focus noise with this lens. Almost completely silent
Pal, I enjoy watching all your videos! Is there a clear image sharpness difference between the Sigma than the Panasonic 1.8?
maybe not so obviously visible, especially if you didn't compare the images side by side.
Sigma is however in a different class, higher class all together
@@PavSZ Thank you - The Sigma lenses are great.
Will they ever update their bokeh master 105mm 1.4
let's hope so

Where do you live? some of those landscapes were wonderful. Great video as always
Ribble Valley in Lancashire, North West UK
The 135 1.8 and 105 1.4 ....still waiting for the uppdate :) !
true
Does this sense work natively with the Canon EOS R - RF mount? Or will this lens need an adapter?
it does not. Only Canon RF lenses work on Canon EOS R. Canon is not allowing other brands to make lenses for the system

nobody but only you can answer this question. The answer depends hugely on what you shot, how and what you personally prefer
@@PavSZ thanks, 🙂👌
What camera were you using to shoot the man with the long hair and the woman with the short hair?
Sony a7IV
50mm or 85mm, which is the better one? In which situations?
there isn't a better one. Different tools for different jobs
Dose this lens need to be calibrated before using it officially on my Sony camera….
no
Really helpful 😊
Thank you for watching!
Tempting but I already have the 24, 85 f1.4 and the 24-70 f2.8
yes but this creates completely different look than any of your lenses 😉
Have you shot this against the Sony 50mm f1.4GM? Which would you pick?
I wish I could but Sony won't lend me one to test it agains this. I will hopefully compare them side by side soon.
