@@maiafay good answer but still even with the good writting and stelalr cast for the most part still i wont bend the knee if i do that then they will keep going we already got cowboy beboop down, this is next
Death and the maiden is a trope that goes back for all of human history. especially in the Renaissance there were lots of paintings of beautiful maidens dancing with skeleton (or the grim reaper) representing death. I think it's because women give life. Women are inherently tied to bringing life into the world. Young maidens have all of the promise and fertility and potential to bring life into the world so it makes sense to me they would be associated with death as well. Life and death are two sides the same coin. Having aa skeleton representing death dancing with a beautiful young girl has this interesting comparison like light and dark, or sun and moon. Women can give life and therefore can choose NOT to give life which is like death by inaction. Even today our society has a fascination with beautiful young girls dying tragically young. If you look at the true crime community the most popular and well known cases are those are the victim is a beautiful young woman. Idk something about it just draws our attention.
In your list of other TV allusions to Death, you miss Lucifer, who in a later season episode is confronted with the idea of Death as the Grim Reaper, but retorts quite forcefully "Death is a little girl!"
@Damien Momed as Jack mentioned I was wrong about the inspiratuon of Death. Idk is Delirium will featured in the new show. There is one way that race swapping Death makes sense. Every century she inhabits the body of a mortal who will die at the end of the day. This way she can understand what it is to be mortal and feel the fear of death. If they go this route, Death can inhabit anyone.
And right now, The Salvation Army has gone out of their way to create a short creepy satanic chick out of the "life" of Bif Naked... which they have modeled after Gaiman's "Death" character. Go figure. Vancouver. More reasons to never go back.😆😆😆😆😆😆
That's what happens when they put agenda and wokeness over you know making a FAITHFUL ADAPTION scene for scene page for page. Which means depict the characters the way they are and not gender or race swap. It's dissapointing that gaimen has allowed this but he's going through a messy divorce. There were trans characters and powerful women and even important black characters. But not making the Endless, the very characters that form the core of the series look like they were designed to is a serious slap in the fucking face. The Endless were pale white to signify that they had no ethnicity and they can appear in any form that reflected the culture/universe they were in. Most likely they just kept her Goth fashion. The Endless could change their form whatever they choose. I'm curious if the actress can perfectly portray her personality
They ignored it for diversity. However, the actress did a good job. So I suppose the show breaks even in that regard. Not sure why it was hard to find a petite goth girl to play the role, but maybe Hollywood was fresh out.
@@maiafay to be fair are Goths still a thing now. Who do you see dressed up in gothic regalia. It was a fad that influenced the creators. Did they learn nothing from the dumpster fire that is Titans the DC show? I get that no one watched it but you have to look at previous history on this kind of thing and realize it's going to be controversial. Kirby might do a great job in the role or she might portray the character completely differently and I'll feel a bit cheated out of a great character but there was no real need to change specifically Death's character's appearance. I get that Americans whitewash movies and I don't agree with that either but that doesn't mean that they need to overcorrect by making a character with a nickname of 'the pale lady' black. She's literally the only character in the show that it wouldn't make sense to change. Heck they could have even changed Dreams default appearance and I wouldn't have minded, it would even be a fun tie-in for the whole time in Africa subplot thing so they wouldn't need to use a different actor. I don't mind the change to lucifer, the actor they are using is great too from her appearance in game of thrones. I don't mind the change to the head librarian because their appearance isn't explicitly something like 'the pale one' or anything XD Just make the black characters be portrayed well instead of following any stereotypes rather than forcing more into places they don't make sense for the sake of 'being inclusive' because then you'll just come off as copying whitewashing which is also bad. Also on the grounds of shapeshifting Death and Dream do shape-shift throughout the series but rather than turn into whatever they want they seem to instead take on an appearance based on those that perceive them, adapting what's to be expected but when alone they have a fairly singular appearance. When the gods come to visit dream in order to plead their case for the key he meets with each of them and with each meeting his appearance changes to fall more in line with them. Taking a traditional Japanese attire and appearance for Susano-o-no-Mikoto of the Japanese pantheon. He even gains less human features when meeting with Bast the Egyptian cat god becoming more catlike but not entirely cat as he does in his appearance as the cat of dreams.
Yeah this blackwashing shit is getting ridiculous always pictures what she’d look like in live action and of course they do this shit instead of the pale goth girl. DC needs to stick to animated movies if they’re gonna give in to this liberal “inclusion” bullshit
Death does not have to continue doing the job. As we saw when Destruction quit his job, and he himself said, that even after he left destruction continued in his absence.
She did quit once because she was tired of people hating her. But she then saw what it did to humanity and went back. After that, she chose one day to become a human to remind herself what death means to mortals.
Death quitting is different from Destruction quitting. Death continues, even when destruction ends. Death is the vital role to life. If Death quits, life suffers.
@@ArtistChibi Death wouldn’t stop if she quit. All she does is usher people to the afterlife, and could easily give that role to someone else, or allow people to find peace on their own. that pissed me off with the casting. It's not that she is being portrayed by a black actress. Or the fact that Netflix has a tendency to fire "Woke" actors suddenly upon completion of a project and blacklist them from working again. The sandman is the one series Netflix could do where different genders and ethnicities for characters makes sense. The endless have no gender or ethnicity specifically. Their appearances are based on how people perceive them due to a multitude of factors such as that person's race, culture, time period, and religion. So in other words, their appearance is based on an interpretation of whoever is in their presence at any given time. The endless can appropriate entire races and represent religions like it's a "teenage phase" based on how a person interacting with them interprets them. That being said, the actress they chose is supposed to portray an interpretation of death who is a white goth girl. which makes sense due to the time period the comic is set in along with the backround and races of the characters she interacts with. They would have to change up the majority of her backstory of every character she interacts with in order to explain how her appearance makes absolutely no sense in the context of the original character. They are missing a major point the source material was trying to make.
@@punishersnake4888 Lol The Sandman was always a progressive series. It had a lot of LGBTQIA, black and female empowerment in it from the start. It just wasn't as out there due to the massive amounts of plot and subtext. Desire is non-binary and there is a trans character. Even Dream's first lover is a powerful black woman. There are even gay and lesbian characters and a lesbian couple (who have a child, even). And Death even gives a talk about AIDS prevention and safe sex during the time when the HIV/AIDS epidemic was raging. It's not the SJW's fault that directors don't know what to fucking do with certain properties. Cowboy Bebop was bad because it just didn't translate well to live action and a lot of it was just cringy and jarring. I'm sure the production team cared about it, otherwise they wouldn't have tried to keep it somewhat faithful. But things have to be changed to make new audiences care and to make it work in the limitations of live action. I think the Sandman would be better as an animated series due to how fantastical and out there it gets.
All of this. I hope it hits them hard enough in the pocket book that they finally stop race swapping and gender swapping characters just to include larger audiences for profit. It's the fans of the books that gave them their success and yet they try to garner more by making unneeded and nonsense changes like they did in that awful Dark Tower garbage film and I love Idris Elba but I loved those books more and I'm glad they got their asses handed to them at the box office! Quit fucking with the fans or you won't have any.
People in the future are going be embarrassed by the amount of blackwashing and tokism in these adaptations from this age. They be scratching there heads, trying to understand why this type of racism are in these movies and tv shows? The same way we look at whitewashing characters from the past, in movies or TV shows. Why can't we create or promote existing black characters in fiction? We have the ability to do so and have done so, yet here we are again?
Nah. If they care enough to scratch their head, it will be at people throwing a tantrum at a fictional anthropomorphic personifications not being 100% white.

Death is an amazing character! She is more than death, she brings life and hope for people!
The two best versions of Death are sir Terry Patchett's Death of Discworld and Niel Gaiman's Death of the Endless. The two of them were friends while sir Terry Pratchett was alive. Coincidence? I see a lot of the Death of Discworld in Death of the Endless, and later Death of the Endless influenced Death of Discworld.
Maybe some aspects of both were put into Death from Good Omens, written by both Neil and Sir Terry.
Sandman 19 1989 won a world fantasy award for best short story. After that, comics were banned from the world fantasy awards.

She’s not some goddess of death. She is Death. Straight. Up.
In your list of other TV allusions to Death, you miss Lucifer, who in a later season episode is confronted with the idea of Death as the Grim Reaper, but retorts quite forcefully "Death is a little girl!"

..uhm..so did u like it?hahaha

Pale white?
Also on the grounds of shapeshifting
Death and Dream do shape-shift throughout the series but rather than turn into whatever they want they seem to instead take on an appearance based on those that perceive them, adapting what's to be expected but when alone they have a fairly singular appearance.

@@stevenburton7725 I didn't say "Death would stop". I said, "if Death quits, life suffers". There is more to Death's role than Destruction's role. Just like how people suffered when Dream disappeared. Did you not read the comics or even listened to the video?
@@ArtistChibi cute, a needless ad hominem attack. I hope that you feel better about yourself. I have been reading these comics since they were just comics, kid. You make an inference that Death is vitally important, but she really isn’t. Suffering is a condition that happens when informed people make judgments about their lives. Do you believe that every wild animal suffers throughout its entire life? Are you so childish as to believe that every human needs to be ushered along to the Sunless Lands? Death herself said otherwise in issue 8, but I guess that you know better than the character or author. Do you enjoy ad hominem attacks?
I'm sure this will go about as well as the live action adaptation of Cowboy Beebop that got canceled after a few episodes or route the current Lord of the Woke is going with black elves and dwarves, lol.

that pissed me off with the casting.
Failed
All of this. I hope it hits them hard enough in the pocket book that they finally stop race swapping and gender swapping characters just to include larger audiences for profit. It's the fans of the books that gave them their success and yet they try to garner more by making unneeded and nonsense changes like they did in that awful Dark Tower garbage film and I love Idris Elba but I loved those books more and I'm glad they got their asses handed to them at the box office!
