I drove through a snow storm through the mammoth area one night and it was super sketchy with regular headlights and driving lights. I added some amber led’s and it was so much less nerve racking the next time

Those bright white lights are annoying and dangerous. It's glary as hell and can't get through rain drops.

I drive in thick fog quite often, it's common where I live. I learned long ago that yellow doesn't reflect back off fog and rain the way white does, even better when it has a sharp cut-off. I currently use Diode Dynamics SS3 fogs on my Toyota.

White lights are typically "driving" lights. Amber where traditionally fog lights. For the reasons Chloe mentions they produce less glare. Historically amber is white light through a filter, so people preferred the brighter white due to the mistaken theory that brighter is better

I purchased some Diode Dynamics Elite Series Yellow foglights, for my ‘23 Taco TRD ORSB. Love them! Now, I live in Massachusetts and the first time I used them when it was snowing out. I put the amber Diode Dynamics on a 2016 Tacoma and couldn’t believe the difference. I have a 70 mile round trip to work everyday in deer heaven and they improve my night vision so much I’ll never own a vehicle without them. Living in western NY the weather can be nice one minute to a blizzard the next minute. When I bought my 2020 TRD Off road that was the first thing I bought for the new truck. Diode Dynamic is a awesome company, quality built products and the the people are so friendly and helpful! I also run the fogs with my daytime running lights for that added badass look, I’ll never grow up when it comes to my Toyotas. Also, ‘I’ve only been flashed maybe 5 times in nearly 7yrs of running them they are easy on the eyes.

Single wavelength LEDs are actually a good bit more efficient than white. It's impossible to get a white appearance with a bare LED so they use coatings that soak up some energy (wasted as heat) but in return give you multiple wavelengths of light. An LED doesn't need a coating to appear yellow, amber, red (blue orange etc) so when you see LED bulbs like that there is a good chance they're producing one exact wavelength of light, and doing it very efficiently compared to the white type.

I live in Tahoe and in 2017 on the day of the Super Bowl I was driving over Mt. Rose (Hwy 431) which is the highest pass that is open year round at least on the west coast maybe even in the US and while trying to get home during one of the worst storms that year I had to turn off my headlights and use my hazards because I didn’t have yellow/amber fog/running lights and my headlights caused such a blinding glare off the swirling snow I couldn’t see anything. But using my hazards I was able to increase my visibility from 0 to 5-7 yards in front of me while I drove 5-10 mph the rest of the 25 miles home.

The exact history of fog lamps is not quite clear, however Europe was using amber fog lamps, for the most part, prior to WWII. Fog lamps have a wider more diffuse pattern to help cut reflections during inclement weather, such as fog. After WWII European sports cars made amber fog lamps popular. Whilst Lucas had their clear "pathfinder" fog lights, most drivers found amber to be more effective.

Ine other tip for those who dont want to spend $$$ replacing their "white" lights with yellow or amber. You can buy yellow film in small rolls. Its very easy to cut and place over the lense, turning your lights to amber. Also, if you're running after market lights with a removable metal ring. Remive that ring and cut the film slightly larger than the lense. Then replace the metal ring. It gives you a clean look and the edge of the yellow film will be concealed under the metal ring.

  • @69sound81
    @69sound81 ปีที่แล้ว

Okay, a lower mounted light will give you a lot of depth and contrast on the terrain regardless of the colour because that operated with the shadows it creates.
Yellow and green are the colours human eyes can see better, the yellow/amber part of the light spectrum tends to refract and reflect less with particles in the air.
Aftermarket lights also tend to be much brighter than OEM lights and Amber is right there in the balance point between iluminating enough for the user and not harming the eyes of people that are facing the light.

I have a 2015 lifted Scion xB with a lasfit LD plus switchback, on my low beam h11 headlights. I don’t have fog lights so that’s why I got them.
And I’m using the SNGL 9005/HB3 3600 lumen led bulbs.
I switch them for mostly looks and I love these a lot. I only use them on high beams only when no drivers is appeared. And I thought it was kool while I had a h11 sylvania - silverstar ultra which very nice and bright for its segment. And the brightness almost match since it was a good lighting output.
Now that I have upgrade to lasfit LD plus switchback h11, and it makes 3000 lumens. And the brightness is overpower than the high beam. So now it’s like couple hairs notice when u turn on the high beams.
Now I want to switch to the high power version of the SNGL, that has a very large aluminum heatsink, that makes 13000 lumens per set. A very thin copper board with a correct led chip to match the filament, and it’s a 360 lighting output to filled the entire reflector.
The so hopefully these are as bright as my low beams if not a bit brighter because that’s what high beams are for.
I love led 3000k yellow lights. I only use them when it it’s sunset, then night time I switch to 6000k.
But I’m still stuck on two options.
Either another Lasfit - LD plus switchback 9005 for 6k and 3k?
    Or
A fanless with just a large heatsink, that’s only 3k from SNGL?
Also I don’t go off-road but I would love to one day.
But most of my life is daily on on-road. Nothing wrong with that.

I know the topic is amber/yellow, but I wonder how effective green is, I put a green filter but I haven’t used it yet in foggy or rainy conditions. and the legality is extremely obscure, as if no one ever thought of green before, no legal documents/statutes talk about them, nor does anyone have a response other than “only these colors are legal”, which varies depending on where you live and I see cars with “non compliant” lights according to the legal statutes all the time anyways. (im in Florida). I’m not talking about under glow either, specifically fog lights. The only green light section I can find is it can be used for private security both on private and public roads and that’s an obscurity within an obscurity to find out of green fog lights are allowed…
