The recipe works well, if somwhat sweet we just preffer to use brown cane sugar or just honey. For cooking 400F /200c/ gas mark6, the chicken thighs we use a rack to allow airflow over the baking paper or foil, we start cooking first with the flesh side up, after 10 minutes we baste and then flip skin side up, another 10 minutes and we use the last of the marinade to baste the skin side and cook for the last 10 minutes. We use the same process for teriyaki chicken, I would recommend oiling the cooking rack first to make cleaning easier.
Thanks so much, and yes great advice oiling the rack first, glad you liked it😊
Char siu is meant to be sweet, many recipes call for way more sugar.
@@AbsoluteFidelity It is personnel preferance, we like using cane sugar it is less processed compared to beet sugar and while being very sweet is not clawingly so. Our local take away gives the option of sweet and savory char siu, the savory version is still sweet just not stupidly so, the less sweet version lets you taste the other ingredients better. We feel the same way about chilli, to much masks the other flavours of your dish rather than raise them up harmoniously. But as i said it is all personnel preferance at the end of the day, you make the food for you and yours, unless you are a chef at work. Take care, God bless.
Absolutamente delicioso 😋 😋

If you don't have an Asian Market near you, Amazon and Ebay will deliver non perishable products to you. Most of the Asian bottled, canned and dry packaged ingredients last a long time. So if you ordered the oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce and other bottled products for each recipe they only require a little bit of each. So once you have these ingredients they will last you maybe 1 or 2 years in the refrigerator. The spices last a long time also. What country do you live in where there is no Asian community in 2024? ⚘️⚘️⚘️

Can I substitute Plum sauce for the hoisin? Hoisin is hard to get here?
Hi Tony, sorry for late reply, I’m on vacation
Plum sauce sounds like a perfect substitute, let me know how you get on and thanks for watching
Hi, how many grams of chicken did you use?
Hi, It was approximately 400g, I used boneless chicken thighs, it works well with legs or even the breast meat, thanks for watching 😊
Thank you so much for your reply. Will definitely try this recipe.😊
@@FC-gp8fw You're welcome 😊
Is it possible to not use light and dark soy sauce? We don't a chinese store in our area.
Hi, tamari or a fish sauce may work, shouldn't be too much different😊
@@Toast3337 thank you so much! Planning to make some bbq🙂
Good luck, hope it goes well😊@@blxcklab
