THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR THIS! I don't have an oven so I tried this by pan searing the skin side first then flipping and braising it with the remaining sauce on low simmer. Man, it is the most amazing looking chicken I've ever attempted to make so far even without the food colouring. The taste is somewhat similar to soy sauce chicken, yet the ngohiong and honey gave different hint of taste. I'll definitely put this on my recook list.

Buy a oven. It's useful long term. Butter Toast with half boil egg is delicious or ham cheese butter spread toast or just cheese butter spread toast. Lots of use. Can roast chicken, duck, char siu, roast pork, salted chicken wrap aluminium foil .....

I substituted the honey with chili infused honey... only other detail I would add is that the rack in your oven needs to be closest to the top when broiling.

I kept the hot side temp around 375 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit & placed the chicken skin side up on the cool side for about 40 minutes then flipped it for about. Another 30 minutes. Finally I brushed some spare marinade on the entire chicken & moved it to the hot side for about 10 minutes & flipped it again for another 10 minutes. Didn't have time to marinate, so I sliced chicken breasts into strips and put them in the bowl with the marinade and microwaved it on low power for 20 minutes to "speed marinate." I then transferred it all to a foil pouch and cooked it on the barbecue. Served over basmati rice. Whole family absolutely loved it. Thank you!

You can also substitute the oyster sauce for hoisin to get similar color and flavor results, it's a matter of the oysters that you are trying to avoid. The dark soy sauce can be replaced with more light if you have difficulty finding it- dark soy sauces are far more for color than flavor compared to other types of soy sauce.

Sha, just tried your recipe! I had 1.5kgs of chicken thighs so I multiplied all the ingredients. Had to cut down on the brown sugar though - it was just too much 😀. Anyway the family LUVED it (there were requests for seconds). If I were to use pork, what would be the settings for oven temperature and bake time?

Ahem, appears that I’ll need to scale this recipe up for the carnivores in my house especially my teenage son. I know he’ll eat at least two and a half thigh pieces.

The marinade looks wonderful. I will make this...and serve it with cucumber and rice, just as you do.

Nice video👍However, in Chinese language, there is no Char Siu Chicken. Char Siu refers to Pork meat done by roasting and the meat must be pork . For Chinese, this style of cooking is just called roasting chicken.
