Did this tonight with a spatchcocked chicken cooked over charcoal and it was spectacular. Cooked up the left over marinate into a sauce/glaze to paint on and sprinkled with fresh sliced spring onions for garnish. Thanks 😀
I made it yesterday and put in freezer overnight and cook it today,my husband love it so much 😁....even I just using only sweet soy sauce,oyster sauce,salt,chopped garlic,honey and white sugar only....and I grill on pan with a butter for 15-20 minutes....still delicious 😋😋😋
I don't have an oven, but I really wanted to try this so I cooked this on stovetop + did some modifications in prep and cooking method, slow fire, and OH MY GOD. Zero regrets. 'Delicious' is an understatement. the taste is nothing I have tasted before and the way the sauce clung to the chicken was just so yummy 😋 will def do this again. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
@@nusraatmohaimin6076 i just braised the chicken in the sauce, with a little water added (1/4 cup or less) so it wont burn. Did it over low heat. I flipped the chicken parts every 15 mins for like 45 mins-1hr, then if the sauce isnt that thick, thicken it on medium fire. Of course, the final output wont entirely be the same but at least the sauce's taste is there. Perhaps using a torch can give those scorches or smth.

Made the Char siew chicken with hainanese rice tonight. Really tasty, my family loved it. Sautéed some asian veg with chilli and oyster sauce to accompany the dish. Thank you for the recipe and look forward to trying more of your dishes.
I did this with pork and it turns out great Double the ingredients Remove the pork skin and bones. I only put a TSP of dark soysauce and a TSP of finely grated garlic and ginger though And cook it in the oven roast for 160c in 2 and half hours It's so good

Man, it is the most amazing looking chicken I've ever attempted to make so far even without the food colouring. The taste is somewhat similar to soy sauce chicken, yet the ngohiong and honey gave different hint of taste. I'll definitely put this on my recook list.
Buy a oven. It's useful long term. Butter Toast with half boil egg is delicious or ham cheese butter spread toast or just cheese butter spread toast. Lots of use. Can roast chicken, duck, char siu, roast pork, salted chicken wrap aluminium foil .....

This recipe is EXCELLENT! I substituted the honey with chili infused honey... only other detail I would add is that the rack in your oven needs to be closest to the top when broiling.

I learned a good trick here: Bubble the marinade in a saucepan... . I always kept the marinade in the freezer (because it is a terrible thing to waste food) and sometimes I would "re-use it" by combining it into other dishes. Which is a widdle bit dangerous. Obviously giving it a good bubble in the sauce pan (then you can freeze it) is an excellent solution. Thaks

Just chopped up chars siew with a little extra char siew sauce stirred into the filling before I stuff the bao. I never tried baking them like manapua but I should try that. I just know steaming them like bao comes out nice.

Didn't have time to marinate, so I sliced chicken breasts into strips and put them in the bowl with the marinade and microwaved it on low power for 20 minutes to "speed marinate." I then transferred it all to a foil pouch and cooked it on the barbecue. Served over basmati rice. Whole family absolutely loved it. Thank you!

I made this and it was wonderful. I did take the first tray out to soon and had to put it back to get that beautiful texture. I didn't add the red dye coloring. It was delicious. Whole family loved it
Here's my experience when i tried this. After 15 mins, the chicken had too much moisture so its was broiling, not roasted in the oven. My chicken was at uppermost rack of oven so i put it onto the lowest and had another go for 10 mins. I poured the juices into another bowl and put it back in at the lowest rack for another 8 mins. It still didnt look cripsy enough so i increased tje temp to 220°C for another 10 and that seemed to do the trick. I also brushed the top n bottom part of the chop with honey. The sauce, i heated it up as per video and also added 5 birdeye chilli to temper the sweetness and make the sauce fiery. My take is that the initial temp should be higher but maybe its just my oven🤗

I kept the hot side temp around 375 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit & placed the chicken skin side up on the cool side for about 40 minutes then flipped it for about. Another 30 minutes. Finally I brushed some spare marinade on the entire chicken & moved it to the hot side for about 10 minutes & flipped it again for another 10 minutes. I checked my internal temps & pulled the bird off breast at 167 degrees Fahrenheit, thighs were done too. Excellent recipe.
Made this yesterday. It was damn good and pretty quick to put together. One adjustment I made was omitting the brown sugar completely because we don't have a sweet tooth. Just honey was sufficient.

Lovely recipe! The only change I'd make would be to use baking paper to line the dish as opposed to aluminium foil which leaches, particularly when coming in contact with acidic food eg tomatoes, lemons, garlic etc.

Tip - for those not familiar with American ‘brown sugar‘ you can make it with just normal sugar and a spoon or two of Molasses. 1 cup sugar + 1 spoon of Molasses (then mix)🤗
Sha, just tried your recipe! I had 1.5kgs of chicken thighs so I multiplied all the ingredients. Had to cut down on the brown sugar though - it was just too much 😀. Nice video and definitely a winning recipe - I would even throw the pan drippings into the dipping sauce when the chicken comes out of the oven. Would also work well with spareribs or even a whole pork tenderloin.

Traditionally, the red color comes from the use of red yeast rice. But it’s definitely not very accessible so food coloring is fine.

Ok here's my update. This so so sooooooo much better on the grill. The flavor is intensified & the wood charcoal flavor is a great compliment.

Tip - for those not familiar with American ‘brown sugar‘ you can make it with just normal sugar and a spoon or two of Molasses.
1 cup sugar + 1 spoon of Molasses (then mix)🤗
normal sugar??? LOL! Brown sugar is closer to natural than what you may regard as "normal". Good substitute nonetheless.

Sha, just tried your recipe! I had 1.5kgs of chicken thighs so I multiplied all the ingredients. Had to cut down on the brown sugar though - it was just too much 😀. Anyway the family LUVED it (there were requests for seconds). If I were to use pork, what would be the settings for oven temperature and bake time?

Nice video and definitely a winning recipe - I would even throw the pan drippings into the dipping sauce when the chicken comes out of the oven. Would also work well with spareribs or even a whole pork tenderloin.
