Nice to see you helping out that boater, I'm sure he thought he would be stuck for a while
He was honestly quite calm when we arrived, almost like he'd told himself he would be there a while 🤣 I would have been shouting 'help' if it were me probably Gary 🤣🤣😀
Love watching your vlogs, Ernie, sort em out will you, only sensible one there, just bloody brilliant. Glad you said about the tractor run, looked like a very excitable dogging site 🤣🤣🤣 keep up the great work, best wishes, Alan
Thanks Alan. Glad you enjoy the vlogs 😊
Hi guys
Liked the video. Eventful day 👍👍🐶
Thanks Ronald 😀
Cruising in the winter is lovely it's like you have the whole canal to yourself. The Ashby is very shallow with not a lot of mooring places to choose from. When Ernie made Paul bang his head off the gunnel I nearly Spat my cup of tea out over my computer laughing that was so funny. Great vlog as alway and hope you had a lovely New Year :)
Hi Steven, Ernie aimed and fired with that head butt didn't he🤣 We've noticed parts of it to be shallow in places and lack of moorings but we found that on the Oxford too. Seem to be finding that a lot of mooring spots are being sold to perm/winter mooring permit holders leaving very little moorings for us cc'ers 😢
Hi , we loved that Ashby , it gets easier as you get on. By the way I think your extra water and coal in the bow will actually help as it will raise the back of the boat .
It's a lovely canal isn't it, we've loved it. So scenic. Yes you're right about the weight in the front helping to level the boat and raise the stern 😀
Cool time and some ice to keep you in one place. Well that was a good save you did for him. That is a rave. Or some old guy that is your Age lol.
Really enjoyed the vlog.
I am so pleased your views are going up.
The best on the canal.
Thank you Jayne, that's so nice 😊 ☺️
Great vlog guys, give yourselves a huge pat on the back for helping a fellow boater, I've said this to many other boaters and maybe to yourselves, you are not alone on the canals it's one Great community, have a wonderful new year and look forward to seeing more of you in '24 👍👍
Thanks Nigel. Hope 2024 is a good year for you too 😀
The noises sounds like a tractor run, when loads of tractors are decorated with lights etc and they drive around raising money for charity. There was one in my town and we had 50 tractors to watch, all very noisy. Well done. For helping that guy, I do hope he doesn’t watch and hear you call him an old man if he is not.
Hi Diana, yes it was a tractor run, I would have loved to have seen them. Maybe next year 😉
My first trip out on my boat was up the Ashby canal. We got on there late at night so decided to moor up. My brother told me to step off the boat and not to let go of the rope. I stepped off and stacked it. Twisted my ankle bad but remembering to not let go of the rope i hung on and got dragged along the towpath on my side. I was shouting to ny brother to stop and he shouted back its in reverse just let go of the rope! 😂 when we finally moored up i told my brother what happens on the boat stays on the boat. He said it didn't happen on the boat it happened on the towpath and had i not heard of the towpath telegraph 😂😂😂😂😂
Oh no 🤣 I'm picturing this scene now. Poor you, I'd blame the driver of the boat for that one 🤣😀
You both make my week, and you Ernie, all the best for 2024.
Thank you Mark 😀 😊
Hi Liz, Paul & Ernie
What a great adventure you are having, frozen in , rescuing other boaters!!
The whole boating community is fantastic
And yes Ernie is bonkers!!
Stay safe and stay warm
Jane & Martin.
Hi there Jane and Martin. Think the cold weather is making Ernie even more bonkers 🤣 see you next week 😉
Hi there to the three of you wishing you a great new year looking forward to your next vlog From the desert, Ed 40 S of Vegas
Happy new year Ed. 😀
Great vlog guys nice to see you helping out a stranded boater keep up the good work 👍🍻
Thanks Andy 😀
*Morena Liz, Paul & Ernie.... You are now officially a 'Towing Company' 🙂 Maybe before mooring have a long stick with measures on it like 5ft, 6ft, 7ft etc etc up to I guess about 12 ft for the depth on the canal's so that you never get stuck... especially when you are carry all the heavy weight in your winter times (coal) Also maybe with all the heavy rain it is stirring up all the mud at the bottom of the canals to. Hope you are keeping warm on the boat whilst the sun is shining today in Auckland NZ 🙂*
Wow sun at last your way, enjoy it Andrea, its been a long time coming hasn't it. We have tried the stick idea before. Trouble is you have to get near bank to put stick in as the depth differs from middle to side and by time you move over to test the depth of side, you're already stuck 🙈 😀
@@uponreflection *Yes it has been a long time coming... but at least I am getting a decent tan whilst out riding... in t-shirt & shorts.... Oh buggar... about getting stuck.*
Good night Ernie liz and Paul I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year for 2024 please keep up the 😢all about your adventures on your narrow boat shame I am not here helping out

Thank you 😉😀
👍
Thanks for watching 😀
A question that I ask my husband every time we watch your vlogs (he suggested that I ask you rather than him)!
Why don't one of you drive the car to a point and then meet up with the person on the boat? Rather than both of you on the boat and then one of you walking/riding back. It is a mystery to me 😂
Well done on your rescue mission. Poor man could have been stuck there forever 😮
Hi there Ann, good question actually..we have thought about this but as we are quite new to cruising and travelling the canals most sections are new to us, we wouldn't want to miss out on what can be seen from the boat by one of us not being there, does that make sense..we kind of want to take in the new sights together. When we travel back along the Ashby we may well do that a couple of times as we would have already seen what's coming around the next corner. Also, we quite like the exercise of walking to get the car 😉😀
@@uponreflection that makes sense. I will stop asking him the question now 😂
Have a great day 👍
🤣 it was a good question Ann. Have a good day 😊
Did try to find you today at snarestone but obvs missed you - next time
That's a shame, yes we had to move on a little as we had to retrieve the car. 🙂
When do you hope to get to snarestone?
Hi Frazer, we arrived in snarestone a few days back. 😀
Hi, I miss the subtiles. I am from Germany and can't understand some words. Have you deactived them?
Hi there, no I haven't deleted them but did have a problem with the at the beginning of this video. Let me have a look and see if I can sort them out. Internet is really slow here so bear with me 😀😉
I've had a look, try again now and hopefully they will appear 😀
@@uponreflection super it works. Now I can have a second look. But only one 'like it', however I like you guys.
Great glad it work now works. 😀
