I got this bag before Christmas and went away with it for a few weeks. It wasn't my only bag (I checked a suitcase), but it was carryon for flights and getting on and off a cruise. And considering I started the trip with everything I needed plus Christmas presents, it was pretty heavy (>9kg) at one point. I found it really comfortable and found the storage pockets just about perfect. I didn't want a bag with excessive pocket organisation. This had just enough easily accessible space for things like wallet, passport, Kindle, etc. Really happy with the purchase, as someone who will likely need it for just a few trips a year, either as a weekender by itself or an additional bag for longer bags where I'll check my suitcase.

I'm curious if you ran into any security issues because of the size. I heard the 28L is safer but curious if you also did the 40L or if you got the 28L.
I have this bag I like it. Great for the 2 to 5 day trips. What I like about it is the big open cavern of space, to use packing cubes or pouched to organize my stuff. Straps are great, On mine the water bottle pocket didn't fit my hydrofask so they must have fixed that.
I picked mine up on sale for $58. Very well built and unbeatable value. I especially love the dual water bottle holders, one for my bottle, the other for my umbrella. If you are looking for a bag that can hold a large size laptop with the empty space of a smallish duffle bag and your budget is $100 or less, this is it.

Hi, since you also posted the video of The North Face Voyager Travel pack 35L (vs its 26L version), which one would you choose between the TNF 35L and this TomToc 40L?
TNF is the better bag, but smaller and costs basically $100 more(when the tomtoc is on sale). So if the price isn’t an issue, TNF is the pick. What would you be using it for?
Do you know if Canadian airlines will accept this as a personal item? The size is a bit over their limit which is 16x13x6 inches but considering how compressible it is, I'm assuming yes it will fit under the seat?
Yea, that’s a good comparison! Functionally they are pretty similar, this is kind of the budget version with no lifetime warranty, but at less than half the cost. Sadly no, there isn’t a larger version yet. But would be cooool if they made one
Yea for real! I know I put the title as “under $100”, because a lot of people search that term….but bit retailed for $80…and I actually got it during the time it was $60 which is nuts
Just for reference. I just bought this backpack and the side strap at 1:23 that people kept complaining and saying has been addressed! Tomtoc listened and they upgraded their side strap to a most robust one.
oh shoot, good catch. That's awesome to see! Love when companies fix issues and don't need to hold out for the design refresh or even calling attention to it. Tomtoc continues to impress.
Hi, will this work as carry-on luggage for the flight? Usually there is a place on the airport to fit a luggage to check if it fits the required size. Do you have experience flying with this backpack?

hey, how tall are you? it really functions more like a 35L bag and the straps are comfy. plus there is a chest strap to help carry. And would you be hiking with it? Depends on the use, for a few hours a day.
Could be a stupid question. How do you think this is for a travel backpack for just a few days of clothes? Going to japan for 4 weeks and just want something for clothes that I can carry on to the plane. Looking for something and gonna have to buy online because there's no stores around me that sell travel backpacks, only suitcases so im tryin to do a bunch of research.
there are no dumb questions! Just kidding there are, but yours is a good one. This is perfect for a few days go clothes since its smaller than 40L, especially for Japan since they have strict weight requirement for carry-ons. I recently went to Japan as well. I would recommend this one for sure.
@@EDG Nah 2nd time but it's been like 9 years. First time going with just a backpack which'll let me get a suitcase to bring 30kg home that's included in the airfare. How many times have you been to japan?
They need to make a slightly more expensive backpack that's almost an exact replica of this but with premium materials. Better fabric, water proofing, metal clips, etc... The T66 is their most popular bag, so naturally it'll have loyal buyers that are willing to pay an extra premium for a more durable/higher quality bag. Seems like a missed opportunity to both the buyer and company.
Security is top-of-mind for me when it comes to a backpack. The YKK zippers do allow for a small TSA-approved lock to be used to lock the two zipper pulls together. A little pocket for small important documents, such as a passport, would be nice and it should be located on the shoulder strap side of the backpack so that the user's back prevents anyone from reaching in and accessing the contents while the backpack is being worn.
I didn't see a pocket on the back. Most backpacks have a zippered pocket that goes against your back when worn and it is to keep items secure (I.E., the pocket can not be easily accessed by thieves). To me, any good travel bag should have that.
Nope, no pocket. I agree, it’s a nice to have, but putting a passport anywhere inside the pack is equally as safe. As long as it’s not on the outside of the bag, accessible to pickpockets.
I really love your taste and style always so chic. My faves would be the kislux leather backpack and the Swarovski pave diamond ring so gorg. Thank you for your recommendations.
İnterrail travels like for 2 week, is it a real problem to not have a waist belt? I mean it will always be at my back so I'm considering the health issues...
I have found with bags like this...the loint of failure is always the plastic clips and the stitching around them. If you need an affordable bag then this might be ok, but if you are lugging around a camera and equipment...I would look for something more secure with more padding.
yep, thats true. For anyone carrying camera equipment, I wouldn't recommend this pack. It's too light weight and not enough padding. People should get a camera bag for cameras.
I haven’t heard about it, but just checked it out and it looks great! I’ll probably end up reviewing it. Though it’s not cheaper, it’s listed at $99 their site compared to this Tomtoc at $75
@@DIYTinkererah nice. Then that is a great deal. I’ll see if I can fit a review into my schedule. People seem to like reviews of the budget bags. Makes sense
That’s a surprisingly good carry on bag/ backpack, here in Europe Airlines are more strict on the size of carry on bags, always looking for more ways to extract more cash from travelers, must get me one of those, thanks for sharing 👍😃
This backpack would maybe last 1 year on my back before it self destructed. Those straps are not reinforced at all for one. Zipper looks cheap. This is in no way an every day carry. Maybe for a high scool kid who will find a way to destroy anything anyway.
It’s possible, but any bag has the potential to fail depending on how tough you are with the bags. But I will say that even the cheap jansport backpacks back in high school lasted multiple years.
Why would you even use a 40L bag for everyday carry? WTF are you carrying everyday? It's not really marketed as an everyday bag or as an advanced bag. Hence the reason it only costs $ 75. Go spend $ 400 and get your AER, Tortuga or Tom Binh and get a bag that will withstand your manly adventures!

Looks like a better Patagonia MLC Mini. Is there a larger version of this?
Yea, that’s a good comparison! Functionally they are pretty similar, this is kind of the budget version with no lifetime warranty, but at less than half the cost. Sadly no, there isn’t a larger version yet. But would be cooool if they made one
Tomtoc can definitely swing it with other heavy hitters in the community. Get em now before they inevitably raise their prices!🤣
Yea for real! I know I put the title as “under $100”, because a lot of people search that term….but bit retailed for $80…and I actually got it during the time it was $60 which is nuts
@ eyyy, that’s a great price. Awesome!
Yes! It’ll fit as a carry on
@@EDG thanks 🙏🏻
Do you think this would be a good backpack to use on a short camping trip ?
It would be great
I have few tomtoc products including this bag too. absolutely value for money. quality is great too. btw this isn't a 40litre bag.its smaller.
Totally agree. Which others do you have
@@EDG I have the sling bag and 2 tech pouches. the origami style one and the flat kinda bigger one. I've got them under £30 each and its great. no point paying £60-80 for peak design etc
@@danielpeti3885 yeah it’s a great value for sure
Can this backpack do well for underseat storage as a personal item on a flight?
@@erockafella619 it can if it’s not fully packed
good video.. subscribed and will likely purchase.. its in impulse price unlike the peak travel bag I wanted lol
@@xavierhill3966 thanks so much! Yep I feel it. Were you looking tt the Peak design 30 or 45L travel bag? I’ve used both , just didn’t end up making a review video because there’s already so many on TH-cam.
I'm curious, why the logo of your bag is different that the others. I like the logo design in this video compare to the "loud" TOMTOC one.
its cuz I peeled off the logo
is it well padded to protect my laptop (especially the bottom in case my bag falls out)?
Yep, it is. It has a false bottom to protect from drops.
@@EDG thanks for the answer
@@royalhumbler2767 yep, happy to help
Just used mine for a 5 day trip. It held up well.
Great to hear! Anything you’d change about the bag?
@@EDG my only issue is difficult to to store UK plugs and adapters. The top pocket could have been a bit bigger.
@@Grayson_Baker yea, agreed
@@EDG if they could combine the project rock backpacks and Duffles you would have a near perfect travel backpack and work backpack
@@Grayson_Baker that would be sick! I haven’t heard of project rock but l check it out
Why the Tomtoc logo is so dark on your backpack? Have you paint it?
I removed the logo
@@EDG how?
@@user-ii7pr1tp4s they came off pretty easy with a pair of pliers
Tomtoc has the same bag listed in a 28l version... have you tried it?
nope, but I imagine its probably the same and also smaller than 28L
so is a82 and t66 the same? why the different names?
yes, and I have no clue why Tomtoc changed their naming for a bunch of products.
I've been thinking about getting this bag, but the lack of a hip belt is concerning? Do you think carrying this around fully loaded for a few hours a day would be too straining without a hip belt?
hey, how tall are you? it really functions more like a 35L bag and the straps are comfy. plus there is a chest strap to help carry. And would you be hiking with it? Depends on the use, for a few hours a day.
@@EDG Sorry, I just saw your response. I'm 5'7 and was wondering how it would be wearing it most of the day in a more urban setting. Thanks!
@@ethanfalls860it should work ok, but I’d recommend getting a smaller pack for carrying everyday.
@@EDG Gotcha, thanks for the advice
@@EDG haha yeah there's definitely dumb questions. Thanks heaps
@@dragonzord6615 let me know how it works out! Happy travels. First time to Japan?
@@EDG Nah 2nd time but it's been like 9 years. First time going with just a backpack which'll let me get a suitcase to bring 30kg home that's included in the airfare.
How many times have you been to japan?
@@dragonzord6615 very nice! I 've been about 3x. super fun place.
Can I use it for personal item on flights
Yes you can
What would you recommend as a premium alternative to this?
hey, whats ur budget? are you ok with this size/general bag setup? I got a few I can recommend.
Would be interested in this as well
happy to help. Same question. whats ur budget? And do you like the general size/shape of this bag?@@TheQuangBang
@@Vastfill agree. I have a feeling it’s in the works
nice review, would have like to see the bag on your back though
Thanks! I showed it on my back in the beginning of the video
From where i bought it,tell me name snd link
My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
you’re literally my comfort person i love you kislux !
Where can we get this backpack for under $100. I check everywhere. Its more than $100
hi, not sure. Are you outside the US?
Security is top-of-mind for me when it comes to a backpack. The YKK zippers do allow for a small TSA-approved lock to be used to lock the two zipper pulls together. A little pocket for small important documents, such as a passport, would be nice and it should be located on the shoulder strap side of the backpack so that the user's back prevents anyone from reaching in and accessing the contents while the backpack is being worn.
yep! Security is very important. Though I definitely never use locking zippers
Should I buy this for a 3 month long winter trip?
@@MercuryTakesNoL at that length, any bag will work cuz you have to do laundry
I didn't see a pocket on the back. Most backpacks have a zippered pocket that goes against your back when worn and it is to keep items secure (I.E., the pocket can not be easily accessed by thieves). To me, any good travel bag should have that.
Nope, no pocket. I agree, it’s a nice to have, but putting a passport anywhere inside the pack is equally as safe. As long as it’s not on the outside of the bag, accessible to pickpockets.
could use one of those shoulder straps/ eyelets to put a shoulder strap on?
Goto a nearby market , get a 25$ bag similar to this and be Happy
Where can you find a $25 bag like this ?
@@EDG alibaba and many online stores.
@@ImranShaikh-hu1ez true, just may not be as good a quality. Hard to compare Alibaba with this.
It could be very interesting if shoulder strap was removable
@@al404 what would be the advantage of that? It would be better off hideaable

@@al404 no, they aren’t hideable
It’s easy to calculate … inch to cm … (52,07x33,02x22,098)/1000 = 38,44 lt
Unfortunately that’s outer dimensions only. It doesn’t take into account any of the padding or internal dividers and material so it’s smaller than 38L
@@EDG sure, but if even the outer dimensions are less then 40 lt, there is definitely something wrong :D
@@alestort yes, we both agree. It is smaller than 40L. Tomtoc should just update their website.
Does this fit under airplane seat
@@JasonPierceOfficial yes if it’s not fully packed out
I would say for travel you need framed bag and hip belt
agreed
Can you stow the shoulder straps
@@timedwards8171 nope
I have found with bags like this...the loint of failure is always the plastic clips and the stitching around them. If you need an affordable bag then this might be ok, but if you are lugging around a camera and equipment...I would look for something more secure with more padding.
yep, thats true. For anyone carrying camera equipment, I wouldn't recommend this pack. It's too light weight and not enough padding. People should get a camera bag for cameras.
HEY kislux !! I have been watching you for years and im so proud of where you have made it! I love you so much! Also thanks for making my day
The price in my country, before shipping, is over a $100... so that sucks.

That’s a surprisingly good carry on bag/ backpack, here in Europe Airlines are more strict on the size of carry on bags, always looking for more ways to extract more cash from travelers, must get me one of those, thanks for sharing 👍😃

What's the difference from the A82..?
no difference, it was just renamed recently.
