Maurice yes please to the long term pre departure list. Just an FYI remember to ALWAYS read the fine print even if you need a magnifying glass to read it. Thanks for the tip on the Passport too I did not realize you needed a 6 month cushion before taking a trip and it expiring. Have fun on your trip(s) and stay safe.
Maurice, I always learn something from your videos but today I had to comment that the backup numbers as phone contacts is just genius! I've always wondered how to store these numbers safely without writing down "backup password for this". I'll use this Sunday to put your idea to use immediately. Thanks a lot!
I too travel for extended periods and am a bit on the new side of this lifestyle. All the help you have to offer would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you in advance, and I look forward to each new video!
As an "infrequent" flyer, this video hits home. On a recent trip, as a result of threatening weather conditions, my departure airport was in a state of complete confusion! Closed food court, last-minute gate changes, and people conducting themselves unruly. By the time I finally arrived at ATL/US, I was exhausted, dehydrated, and hungry. As a result of time zone change and brain fog, I had to walk to the window and look outside to determine if it was morn, even, or nightime. Somehow, I pulled myself together to coordinate the last leg of my trip and got home in one piece. Now, I always carry 2 watches: one with auto time-zone adjustment on one arm and one requiring manual adjustment on the other arm. I do not rely on my phone because it can be easily misplaced, and during times like this, you need to keep moving forward and not take time to go backward to look for a phone. Now, my personal item bag always contains my medications and my special concoction zip-lock emergency bag. I rotate these items every other month to ensure everything stays fresh and ready to go at a moments notice!
Had a phone brick part way through a 6 week international trip. I can confirm the headache of trying to access key accounts, even with multiple redundancies
Maurice - USPS does not charge a fee to hold one's mail and to deliver the accumulated mail the day after the mail hold ends. The other option is to pick up the mail at your local USPS office.
ALWAYS check your passport expiration date aka 6 months earlier. I somehow miscalculated and was denied boarding on a long planned and anticipated cruise 😣. The irony was that we had just land the night before from an overseas trip. We had spend so much time planning the suitcase switch due to extreme weather contracts. We calculated from commence of entire holiday, not commencement of cruise date. No, we did not get our money back. Can’t believe when you ‘enter your passport number onto the cruise line website, there is no alert that your passport will be out of date. 10 days short of 6 months was a very costly mistake.
@catsmao5313 All these websites (cruise, airlines, tours) always ask the expiration date, so they could tell you right there, if they programmed that in.
The "6 month rule" is more of a general suggestion or best practice and varies from country to country. Generally speaking, if you have an outgoing ticket, it's all good, especially if you are flying into a "friendly" (i.e. visa-free) country. The airline ticketing agent you get your boarding pass from is the main person you have to worry about though most of the time time they will simply flag it to be "reviewed" by the destination country who will likely just remind you of the date. It's a good general rule though as it avoids unnecessary stress.
MFA apps like Authy, or the one built into most password managers have the added benefit of restoring cleanly to a new phone, should it fall into a ravine or something.
I hear you but eSIMs vs 10/day flat fee international roaming 🤷🏼. It ain’t like the old days where the carriers really bent you over. For me the 10 dollars/day caped at 100/billing cycle is totally worth the literal do-nothing, guaranteed to work, one less thing convenience.
Just for any Americans not used to travelling with the “carry some US dollars” tip: check the currency of your destination against the dollar. If you try paying with dollars in the UK, Eurozone, or any other part of the world with a stronger currency than USD, you’ll probably just get laughed at
My garage was broken into during my recent two-month trip, and the door would have been easily accessible for at least 2-3 weeks as it happened before it snowed. Piece of shit thieves aside, I believe the actual reason I was robbed was because Canada Post kept delivering non-addressed mail and flyers to me, expanding my mailbox from 5 letters over that time, to two months worth of firestarter. Yes, I did have a very clear note saying no unaddressed mail or flyers as well as using the Canada Post online unsubscribe tool. I learned my lesson, and CP now has one less supporter during their strike action.
You’re wrong about the 6 month rule. It doesn’t exist. Passport validity is decided by country. I’ve flown from Australia to Europe (connecting in Abu Dhabi) stayed there for 2 weeks then headed back to Canada. All on a passport with 4 months validity

That’s very difficult for him since USPS is two hours away from Toronto

Pre departure check list, please
I've never been charged by the USPS for holding mail when I'm not home which includes trips up to four weeks. Maybe it's a Canada thing?
Just checked it is a paid thing in Canada and for 6 months in US dollars it would be $193.38 before tax

Can you tell me what brand of passport wallet you were showing at 3:17 in this video? It's green.
What’s the name of that travel passport wallet?? Thanks!

That might be where you live. But an annual vacation for me, it can cost me four times the amount that I’m already paying back home.
Maurice travels for six months at a time. Paying more than the cost of a new phone for roaming doesn’t add up.
WHATS THE PASSWORT WALLET @3:17

Going to bank now to get some Uncle Ben 😂😂😂
I so need at way to attach my safaris to my notebook. Which leather option is that you are using? And how does it attach?
The leather notebook is the travelers company notebook
@ so they also carry the device to attach the pens?
Hi Maurice , I was wondering if it’s possible to buy your dual passport wallet ? Where can I buy it ? And can you ship to Norway ?
@3:17 which passport wallet is that?
same question I have
@abhishekponnusamipilla974 I love the design, compact and utilitarian 👌

Why not just use Wise for your debit card? You can still do online payments that way, but I suppose still contingent on your phone.
I’m a minimalist so I don’t have anything to organize :(
