    Warnng: ALWAYS buy the ticket directly from the Airline. 3rd party tickets work if everything goes according to plan. But, the airline will not change your ticket, even if it's their fault like mechanical, or out of their control like weather. You can change the ticket ONLY through the agency you bought it from, and prepare for the big fee hit.
    Ask me how I know 😒

    One disclaimer about using different airlines for each way, be careful if one airline ends up cancelling or severely delaying your flight. The other airline will not likely accommodate for the mis connect or inconvenience and travel insurance helps mostly after the fact.

    Awesome info ... I live in Australia and it's called "down under" for a reason! It is crazy expensive to get anywhere. One fantastic spin off of your hacks (the explore function) is that I've noticed I can save lotsa dollars if split my flight. What I mean is this: I'm looking to go Sydney (Aust) to San Francisco. The one way flight (direct) is about $AUD 1,900 however, if i do it in two separate bookings (Syd -> Hawaii and Hawaii -> SFO) I can save some $400+ dollars. Thanks soooo much !!!! Cheers

    This is great, I think, if your only real consideration is getting the cheapest flight possible. But there are other things equally important to me that oftentimes aren't addressed in these types of vlogs - such as departure times, arrival times, and duration of flights. I am not interested in departing at 5am, sitting in a layover airport for 12 hours, and arriving at my final destination at midnight, all for what would otherwise be a 6 hour direct flight, just to save myself $100. I'll gladly pay the extra $100.

    I've never used Google Flights. Do you have to book through them (like Expedia)? I usually book directly with the airline since if something goes wrong, they are easier to work through.

    • @justsmy5677

      You can search using Google Flight, then book directly with the airline (recommended).

  • @SunsetsForever2863
    @SunsetsForever2863 ปีที่แล้ว +88

    I've tried many of these hacks in the problem is yes you can find a cheaper flight for instance I go from Tampa Florida to Frankfurt Germany, how the standard direct flight is about 9, but sometimes you find of course cheaper flights if you have a, but some have multiple layovers and I found one that made it a 42 hour flight, leaving Tampa going to Las Vegas laying over then to San Francisco laying over and then a direct flight from San Francisco... These are what I refer to as insane flights that just make no sense. Of course you can filter down to just one layover, but that takes away all the cheap flights, so cost is not a very good parameter to judge flights on, many just make no sense...

    • @rs120
      @rs120 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      Absolutely.. The more layovers usually the cheaper the cost.. No amount of legroom and amenities will make up for the comfort you you lose on changing flights constantly..

  • @jeremyflyaway961
    @jeremyflyaway961 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    Using the multicity option can save you money as well on an long international flights. We booked flight tickets from Australia to Colombia that pass by Peru so we checked with multicity if the price change if we actually stay in Peru for a couple of weeks and it appeared that the price was identical but we get to visit Peru now ☺️.
    You also forget to mention the incognito mode that saves you a lot of money because without, when you connect to google it remembers your search and prices keep increasing all the time you connect .

    • @docrw

    • @ispeedinwater

    • @jeremyflyaway961
      @jeremyflyaway961 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well not for me, if I'm not in incognito all the time I do a new search the price increases. Google remember your search and prices go up. After, the first time you connect incognito or not price are probably the same 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @SabineBeckerPUSH
      @SabineBeckerPUSH ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So very true! The incognito mode just does not work! I travel a lot, and I have tried it several times. Maybe it worked at some point in time, but somehow the search engine knows exactly where you’re going to go. Incognito or not. I think it’s a bunch of BS.

    • @andrecomanigault
      @andrecomanigault ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use incognito mode a lot when looking for tickets.. I can say that sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't..

  • @dimaslizardo1168
    @dimaslizardo1168 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Some important things to note. As has been mentioned, if you hook through a third party, you may wind up having issues with flight delays or cancellations and missed connections, as you didn’t buy the ticket directly from the airline.
    Also, if you belong to a frequent flyer program or have status, buying tickets from a third party may not give you the same benefits as buying from the airline.
    If you’re a leisure traveler, looking for the bare bones cheapest flight, these hacks work.
    However, I prefer the loyalty rewards I get with the airlines and am willing to pay a little more.
    Also, some for some of us, the nearest airport might be in a different state, so driving for hours and paying to park doesn’t make sense. Example, I live in Seattle and the closest major airport is in Portland.

  • @austinhamilton122
    @austinhamilton122 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      Basing on cost alone works to a point. It all ultimately reverts to If you have the disposable income to afford travel it’s not an issue and if you don’t it is an issue. He demystifies the process and opens the mind to new ways to explore and that’s the key!

    Thank you so much for all the work you put into this video. I noticed the Karen's below in some comments. I used to be a travel agent many years ago and these extentions are great. What some people don't realize that once they look at the 3rd party prices you can keep that tab open and then go to the airline direct and compare one more time. Sometimes you will find it the same low price depending on the blocks made previous for 3rd party. A person can then make there decision. I learned a lot from what you shared on this video. I LOVE the extentions. We are avid travelers! Legrooms.......ahhhhh

    Overall a great video for people hunting for cheapest flights however, we all know lower cost comes with a price to pay for something else usually.. In the example given where we save couple of hundred dollars on the flight to Paris, the lenght of the flight is 24 hours vs. 16 hours which is a few hours longer and on a 7 day holiday, you lose almost a day just on a longer travel on a return ticket.. and not to mention 2 flight changes!! ouch!! I love google flight and the way I use is with my own favorite crieria.. 1) change to one way flight as I always have a different destination next as I travel on a more long term basis 2) change flight stops to zero meaning I only want to fly direct and I choose my destinations based on direct destinations 3) leave the destination blank and find out where to there are direct flights from where I am and then 4) go to the website of the airline directly and book there.. I loved the Grid option you mentioned which I didn't know about and will explore further.. Cheers

    I dislike immensely all the travel search engines that are not upfront with what options you may want to select. Just about all of them try to con you towards them with a cheap price but they don't include any bloody luggage! No upfront choice of yes I want to choose my seat. Yes, I may want Premium Economy, etc. Grrrrrrrr. They are no better than used car salespeople and politicians.

    No passenger likes to face inconvenience at the airline check-in counter, especially flying a long-haul international flight, I have peace of mind booking directly to the airline website, and a bit higher price airfare but it is easier to contact their customer service if problems occur compared to those third-party travel website and dealing with their unreliable call center workers who can barely speak English.

    can you comment on how to book connecting flights when the first flight does not get you to your final destination? do you book those separately yourself or take the recomended connection offered by the airline?

    Airlines are responsible for the legs which are on the same ticket, but have no responsibility between the tickets. Flight cancellation or delay on one leg will not guarantee a refund for the affected leg on the other ticket, even if both tickets are issued by the same airline.

    And what if your traveling with a large family ? Not just 2 people. Still book one way ?

    Did not work for me, the airline I chose actually had cheaper tickets. This is because google did not give all the extra fees included. Even adding an extra checked bag and food, our tickets were still cheaper. So buyer beware.
