I wouldn't expect that much creative thought from developers that refused to take advantage of Yanmega's "massive prehistoric dragonfly" design with a Bug/Dragon typing. It's far ire deserving and suitable for this pair than Flygon ever was.

I get the feeling that Aromatisse wanted to be the Danse Macabre Pokemon. Danse Macabre was a medieval genre that consisted of death calling people into a dance and slowly taking them away, regardless of status. So having a can can dancing plague doctor is a morbid but effective pun on the concept. Also plague doctors stored dried flowers in the long beak of the mask (but that might be a myth) to keep themselves uninfected, since in medieval era people thought that the bubonic plague could be stopped that way. (also thank you Ms. Nogradi for talking so much about Danse Macabre during literature back in 9th grade. It did stick.)

Patients apparently smell quite gross in ORs I can only imagine how bad someone with a horrible infection smelled. I think mostly they didn't want to vomit in the mouth of the mask.

I agree that Jynx has a terrible design, however, it's stats and movepool, even in gen 2, are so good (or at least good enough) that I am unironically using one on my Silver playthrough.
Same - made the decision to use one when I replayed Silver last year and it was honestly the MVP. Controversial, creepy/ugly as hell, but also an underrated Pokemon with an amazing typing.
Jinx can be really good due to it's stats having an amazing spread and pyschic/ice giving good coverage. Of course, ih the big context it's a weak pokemon. But it's a weak pokemon that has a lot going for it.

You know, I can't blame you for Aromatisse's placement, but while I can definitely see the Plague Doctor inspiration, I always saw its face more like a masquerade mask. To me, Aromatisse's emphasis was on the dancer with the perfume smell to entrance. A mysterious woman at a masquerade who draws you in with her dancing and scent, adding to her mystery. That's always how I saw it. However, plague doctor mask with the scent theme makes thematical sense, but hey, Pokemon are inspired by multiple things simultaneously.

That's probably what inspired it's laughably bad design. The devs were watching Tom and Jerry cartoons when they saw Tom get smacked with a shovel and thought they'd just gotten a new idea for an Alolan form for Persian. A bad one, but an Alolan form, nonetheless.
Klefki is also an odd Pokémon because the keys that it holds are legitimate keys that people either gave it or lost. One particular Pokémon entry states that when people give Kelfki their keys, it is normally just because they know that Kelfki won’t let it go. Meaning that technically you’re stealing keys whenever you catch a Kelfki.
I like to think that Klefki is the centre of one of those relationship padlock type traditions. In our world, couples will sometimes attach a padlock to a bridge and throw the keys in the river, meaning that the lock cannot be opened up, representing the hoped-for longevity of the relationship. Maybe in the Kalos region they give the keys to a Klefki to symbolise forever -ness instead

Pokemon X was the very last pokemon game i have played, because I dont have switch yet. and I liked Quilladin so much because of how he looked on the artworks I saw online, before playing Pokemon X.. so I chose Chespin as my starter Pokemon. so when I get him to evolve to Quilladin, it was like the best days of my life, that I even prevented him from evolving until he reaches level 50 or something..because i felt so comfortable having him as my own Pokemon. I like how he look, because I was once a fat, derpy looking kid, and my Pacific islander genes gave me big nose. I thought it was cute that a Pokemon looked so much like me when I was younger. I now its stupid to compare my old self to a Pokemon, but I thought that was really inspiring to me. Coz I find him so cool, unlike me when I was younger.

I think the Unova Monkey Pokémon would benifit greatly from a third, final evolution. I know it would take some work, but I think it could save their line.

Interesting. Usually, I see the 3rd person speech patterns given to characters that are meant to be childlike or immature or cutesy in Japanese media. Obviously games and anime aren't the same as real life, but Interesting that only characters meant to be seen as immature would use that way of speaking if it's more of a polite thing. Wonder why they do that.
I would imagine it is because of the honorific-heavy nature of Japanese, and the fact that children would thus have to use an upward/polite/respectful word choice when talking to most anyone other than other children of their same age. Overusing that kind of honorific pattern could easily be seen as juvenile as I can easily imagine that young children would use it even when it wasn't necessary, since they're still learning, and anyone trying to 'act childlike' would overemphasize those kinds of language patterns.

Hi I’m here to debunk the “it’s japanese name means electric dragon” myth (or rather point out it’s ambiguity) using linguistics! Alright, so the first reply mentions that the Japanese name means “electric dragon” but it’s actually a pun because it also means “electrical current”. 電流 (denryu) and 電龍 (denryu) are pronounced the same but have different kanji (Chinese characters) the first different one 流 means “flow” and the second one 龍 means “dragon” But the Pokémon’s actual name is written in the alphabetical syllabary known as katakana デンリュー so there’s no correct answer to which one it means (dragon or current). It could’ve just meant “current” when they first made the Pokémon and added the pun later... Does that things up?

I was not interested in Alolan Persian at first either, but it grew on me and also... it can look better. The anime can do it justice and the card art can too, but in general pokemon like this make me laugh because the way fanart of it draws and understands the concept WAY better than the original images.

Folklore fae are NOT good and are NOT nice. There’s very little difference between the concept of European Fae and some Japanese Yokai-the differences literally being region. Fairy for Fae, Dark or Ghost for Yokai. So for pokemon since many of the fairy types are Definitely Fae vs Cutesy Good Fairies? Coloration. That makes Mr. Mime 100% Fairy verses Dark or Ghost (which have existed since gen1 while Fairy has not)
13:19 Unova was created as a soft reboot of the main series games and anime. Gamefreak wanted it to feel like a brand new world, so there are no other Pokémon than gen 5 except for post-game. Because of this concept, they wanted to create counterparts to Kanto's Pokémon. Pidove is a pidgeon, like Pidgey. Troh and Sawk are counterparts to Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee and Foongus and Amoonguss are counterparts to Voltorb and Electrode.

It’s my favorite ultra beast and favorite electric type as I don’t like a majority of them, but this one hits just right. One of my fondest memories as a kid was one of those wavy tube men. Xurkitree reminds me of it and makes me so happy to see.

I personally hate Illumise because in my first Emerald playthrough, they loved spamming Moonlight, which prolonged the fight not only due to healing, but also because it had a REALLY long animation that could last a second and then some on max emulator speedup.

Klefki is also an odd Pokémon because the keys that it holds are legitimate keys that people either gave it or lost. One particular Pokémon entry states that when people give Kelfki their keys, it is normally just because they know that Kelfki won’t let it go. Meaning that technically you’re stealing keys whenever you catch a Kelfki.
Given this, I'm disappointed they didn't have random key patterns like Spinda.

I like to think that Klefki is the centre of one of those relationship padlock type traditions. In our world, couples will sometimes attach a padlock to a bridge and throw the keys in the river, meaning that the lock cannot be opened up, representing the hoped-for longevity of the relationship. Maybe in the Kalos region they give the keys to a Klefki to symbolise forever -ness instead

Listening to how you described Quilladin's physical appearance made me hear my childhood bullies' voices again hahahahaha. Pokemon X was the very last pokemon game i have played, because I dont have switch yet. and I liked Quilladin so much because of how he looked on the artworks I saw online, before playing Pokemon X.. so I chose Chespin as my starter Pokemon. so when I get him to evolve to Quilladin, it was like the best days of my life, that I even prevented him from evolving until he reaches level 50 or something..because i felt so comfortable having him as my own Pokemon. I like how he look, because I was once a fat, derpy looking kid, and my Pacific islander genes gave me big nose. I thought it was cute that a Pokemon looked so much like me when I was younger. I now its stupid to compare my old self to a Pokemon, but I thought that was really inspiring to me. Coz I find him so cool, unlike me when I was younger.

In Japanese you speak in third person when you want to be polite, so some of the reason you found the hoops movie so annoying might have been because of bad translation

Interesting. Usually, I see the 3rd person speech patterns given to characters that are meant to be childlike or immature or cutesy in Japanese media. Obviously games and anime aren't the same as real life, but Interesting that only characters meant to be seen as immature would use that way of speaking if it's more of a polite thing. Wonder why they do that.
I would imagine it is because of the honorific-heavy nature of Japanese, and the fact that children would thus have to use an upward/polite/respectful word choice when talking to most anyone other than other children of their same age. Overusing that kind of honorific pattern could easily be seen as juvenile as I can easily imagine that young children would use it even when it wasn't necessary, since they're still learning, and anyone trying to 'act childlike' would overemphasize those kinds of language patterns.

Hi I’m here to debunk the “it’s japanese name means electric dragon” myth (or rather point out it’s ambiguity) using linguistics!
Alright, so the first reply mentions that the Japanese name means “electric dragon” but it’s actually a pun because it also means “electrical current”.
電流 (denryu) and 電龍 (denryu) are pronounced the same but have different kanji (Chinese characters) the first different one 流 means “flow” and the second one 龍 means “dragon”
But the Pokémon’s actual name is written in the alphabetical syllabary known as katakana デンリュー so there’s no correct answer to which one it means (dragon or current). It could’ve just meant “current” when they first made the Pokémon and added the pun later...

I was not interested in Alolan Persian at first either, but it grew on me and also... it can look better. Folklore fae are NOT good and are NOT nice. There’s very little difference between the concept of European Fae and some Japanese Yokai-the differences literally being region. Fairy for Fae, Dark or Ghost for Yokai.
So for pokemon since many of the fairy types are Definitely Fae vs Cutesy Good Fairies? Coloration. That makes Mr. Mime 100% Fairy verses Dark or Ghost (which have existed since gen1 while Fairy has not)

It’s my favorite ultra beast and favorite electric type as I don’t like a majority of them, but this one hits just right. One of my fondest memories as a kid was one of those wavy tube men. Xurkitree reminds me of it and makes me so happy to see.

I personally hate Illumise because in my first Emerald playthrough, they loved spamming Moonlight, which prolonged the fight not only due to healing, but also because it had a REALLY long animation that could last a second and then some on max emulator speedup.
I have suffered from both it and Volbeat in X and Y's route right next to Parfum Palace.
I actually like Simipour a lot it was the only thing that got me through the first gym and it helped me with my full playthrough
