Thank you Frank! I have been watching your videos for a few years now and have finally gotten myself a 3D printer and I hit the ground running with this thing all because of your videos. The knowledge and tips you have shared are wonderful, I just finished my very own Iron Man helmet today and I am super pleased with it being my very first one! Keep the videos pumping; love seeing all sorts of creations.
First off, I love the energy you bring to every video, makes it entertaining and easy to watch all the way through. What you do with the edits and the humor, great job. I eventually want to get into 3D printing for cosplay (specifically for Tron and Black Panther), and been watching your videos to build a foundation before I eventually get one. Keep up the great work you do with these videos, cause it's definitely inspiring and motivational for these of us that were nervous of how complex 3D printing is. Thank you
Always going to start with a Thank You. I appreciate the work you do. I have no illusions, this is a job. I'm about a year into 3d printing after picking up an Ender 3 for $100. Great crossover from laser experience and the applications for Halloween costumes in this space are mind blowing. As a crafter, curious mind, not sure how it took me so long to pick one up. Anyway, your info is amazing and I plan on continuing my dive. Sounds like you were in the UK and now back in the US so good that we'll be dealing with the same product availability. Keep up the good work. Understand it take s lot to pump out the content and want you to have no illusions that it is appreciated.
Honestly this is the content I miss so much cosplay heavy stuff and also I like the vlog stuff too been following for the last 3-4 years I can’t wait for your next build videos
Great video. Very concise. Meshmixer is great. Armorsmith can be frustrating and hasn’t seen any updates in a long time. Make sure you save your profile! It seems to randomly loose it!
Nice overview video. Great update on how to get started and references to more detailed videos you’ve done. Also, 👍👍 to the Uncle Jesse shout out, it great how the 3d cosplay community can have fun with each other.
Would it be possible to print gears for the inside of an iron man helmet, and the faceplate still be connected to gears without it being “motorized” like could I flip the faceplate up manually without servos and any electronics? Love your videos and hope you have a good day!
This video is super helpful. I watched your video on the Tanjiro sword and went and bought the model. Working on printing it at the moment our of resin and ABS!
Im thinking of getting into it and making it a business so your tips are helpful and I'd like to actually get some consultation on how to do this type of thing
Another great video. I’m on my way to motorizing an iron man helmet with your other tutorials. I would love to see updated videos on the mark 85 series 😉
Great video as always, but i'm surprised when you talked about cutting up larger prints you didn't mention LUBAN which will take whatever you have and chop it up based on the sizes you give it. Plus it will actually label and or number them for easier reassembly. Keep up the great vids.
Great video! 100% agree on you comments ans tips. The most important advice you already said, practice makes perfect. It doesn't always turn out right the first time. Can you recommend us best links to buy good 3D models?
This was an awesome video. I am literally trying to figure out what to use to put together a large print. Do i super glue, epoxy, welding with soldering iron or plastic welder or combo of each? it will be a large display print (about 6ft tall, 30 spools of filament) and dont want it fall apart after a couple years. There does not really seem to be just a single best way and i know everyone has their own success story but i dont want o mess up my first large print. Lots of good info here. Thank you
Don’t be worried, just make sure you do your research so you don’t mess up, and if you haven’t bought a printer yet , make sure you get a reliable one because it will save you hours of frustration
Hey Frank, as i dive deeper into your videos you have loads of Armor, Suits and weapons from Marvel, Disney and others. My questions is, Do you ever get sued by one of them because of copy writes?
What I do is take things into Zbrush and make each part have either a key or socket that fits into one another using what is called a Boolean. So when it’s glued it’s much stronger. You could probably do this with Blender which is free. I learnt a lot from this video I had never heard of purse clasp magnets or the different type of foam inserts before
Unbelievably helpful vid! So many great tips packed together! Although when I went to try out Armorsmith, it looks like it's no longer available/supported which is a shame :/ I've been trying to find a decent replacement program but for now I'll make do with the cosplay calipers
I am looking at just getting into 3d printing but can Inask what may be a silly question? Why not use wood joining methods. Different ways of making male and female connectors, maybe fill with plastic filler?
Printed a Magneto helmet on my P1S only for it to not fit. Will make a nice display peice i guess 😅 Can we see your paint booth setup?? Looking to set one up myself
I'd like to see a video on how to keep a workshop ventilated to protect from the fumes of melting plastic. and other things to keep a workspace clean and safe etc 🤓
Hey Frank, what do you do to combat dust on and around your printers? Are there any enclosures or DIY methods you would recommend for keeping things clean and temperature steady?
Basically, if you work in the same room as the 3d printers it's impossible to keep dust off anything. For my printers I have a microfiber cloth at each one plus a small vacuum in the area.
@@ThatGuy-mp9og that's what I was afraid of haha my college apartment has super old vents that pump dust everywhere, guess I'll just have to clean the printer regularly. Thanks y'all!
Hi Frank, could you show us your way of achieving the chrome effect on the swords , ie: which paint you use . If there’s already a video , could you link the video ? Thank you
@FranklyBuilt I wanted to know if you have any tips on how to 3D print large cosplay props like weapons that have the ability to separate for easy transport? Like are there options to 3d print ends that can connect using adaptors?
Hey Frank, quick question, at your point around 7:30 what benefit does the activator for the cyanoacrylate offer? Does it just assist in drying the glue faster or actually strengthen the bonds?
Thanks for the amazingly quick tips and tricks! I am just getting into making my first whole 3D printed cosplay (Captain Rex, phase 2) and I was thinking about doing in in ABS, so i could use acetone in post processing. Does anyone have any tips?
Wuestion about scaling a full body suit. The whole thing is the same scale so if you just scale one part to fit you, can’t you then assume the rest will fit at the scale of the one part you tested with? Or do you find yourself having to custom scale the head differently than say the gloves or chest piece?
ive had an ender 3 for about 3 years now and I'm finally gonna upgrade, planning on getting the bambuu p1s or the p1p. which one do you think is better
Thanks for the tips, but do you think the Bambu Lab A1 is a better beginer printer than the Ender CR-10 Pro V2 and when it comes to making an iron man suit
3D prints are so great! It made cosplays more accessible. A decade ago I would have to buy expensive helmets like EFX Stormtrooper or settle for a much inferior cheap Rubies helmet that doesn't look that good. With 3D prints I could just buy or commission helmets in my local shops in my country for around 49 to 70 dollars. I'll just paint them and they look fantastic with good fitting.
When you scale down a helmet that use 8x2 magnets and the hole are smaller at the end , what do you do to put the 8x2 again ? Heating up a magnet and shove it in is one way I tried but getting them out is a hell of a process and it can go wrong with many ways . Any recommendation how to do it ?
If you aren't adept at 3d modeling, I'd say use a dremmel to make the hole larger and then use a soldering iron with scrap material to secure and cover
Hi Frank, I just watched ur 7ft Railgun video and couldn't find the link to the ir receiver that u mentioned. I noticed others were having similar troubles. Could you send a link? Thanks
Hello Frankly Built, I have a quick question, I have an Ender 3 V2 and I am thinking about getting an upgrade, I am a lot more experienced than I was 3 years ago so what will be a good upgrade? thank you.
Seeing what you do and how you do it, it seems easy. But the reality is that it doesn't. Some time ago, I tried to use scandy pro and polycam but every time I import the stl in my computer it doesn't respect the scan measurements. Am I doing something wrong?
From watching the videos, i get the impression i can print an ironman helmet on an A1, can you print it on an A1mini? I just starting to thinka bout getting into 3d printing, purely for halloween and stuff around the house. But id love to be able to print a helmet or 10 for the kids and myself Is an A1 good or do i need to op for an P1S?
Hi I hope you read this. I have a project idea, why don't you try make a mark 50 suit with silicone and 3d print, since the suit in movie seems to look elastic because of the nano tech. It's more like a silicone costume
I didn’t know there was free 3d scanning software you can use on your phone. 🤯 I just downloaded one of them and tried it. It’s not that good. Better than nothing though. Lol
I was considering making carbon fiber marvel and other masks and helmets to sell on ETSY or amazon but not sure how well this might work, any advice would he helpful.
Also i have a problem with a roll of plastic, where it was packaged incorrectly, so a piece of the thread longer in was over the rest of the later plastic, so it gets stuck, and the only solution seems to be to stay with the printer while it prints, or roll the entire roll out, and put it back on the roll
I am wondering, could you do a video showing us how to do 3? D models printed like figurines like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Iron Man figurines in different scales like 1/32 1/18 scales like that?

Fun note: "normal superglue" and the "2-part superglue" you mention are identical. The activator just makes the CA glue set nearly instantly.
Omg this was exactly what I have been looking for. No one has made videos on this that I could find
Meshmixer does still work on Mac! Just need to use the wayback machine to download the most recent version! I still run it on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro!

For even stronger joins you could use a plastic welder that melts metal pins into the joins - the kinds used to repair car bumpers

Glue
Hey frankly, what air brush do you use and what paints do you usually use in it..?
I don’t really use airbrushes haha
One thing I did to fuse a print was melting it together with a junk soldering iron and filling in the divot with some bondo
Keep up the great vids!
One thing about gluing ... always rough up the 2 surfaces before gluing too get better adhesion
If you use meshmixer you can actually create a model of your body, its not perfect. But ive made 2 armor sets and theyve fit pretty good.
Waiting for Bambu to release an XL printer hopefully this year!!!!
Can you make a more in deep video about post processing with airbrush paint? Instead of usual spray paint, obviously if you want ✌🏻
I don’t airbrush enough to do that
