      I agree rim brakes are more reliable and easy to work with. I’ve race with rim brakes from 1992- 2000 in Belgium, France and Eastern Europe and rim brakes never failed even in wet conditions. I’m now been on disc brakes and is definitely a pain in the ass. Travel via air with disc brakes is not reliable. A couple international trip brake fluid lost pressure and had to find a bike shop to get brakes bleed. I usual bleed my own brakes but it is a pain in the ass. The bleed screw on the brakes level gets easily stripped. Yes disc brakes do perform well in the rain but not necessary for road.

I couldn't keep up in the wet corners. I had to go red every turn until I blew up. The problem was that I had to start braking earlier, and then sprint very hard to get back on their wheels.

    @ildigergelysteinbach2380 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it a problem to always changing just the friction part when switching between carbon and alu wheels(especially for Exalith) or is it in this case better to change the whole pad with the holder? Or just the little 2mm hex is to handle carefully?

    • @overcookit1433
      @overcookit1433 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, I have never used these small screws. This was only a problem with the first generation of these pads, there I had to put some strips of plastic behind the pads when I put them in the holder to prevent the pads from gliding out of the holder, but meanwhile these pads (I use Swissstop) are made in a way they are tight enough without fixing screw - when I had to to switch between pads for alloy and for carbon, I had to use an open-end wrench to get them out of the holder.

      @BixbyConsequence maybe that's because rim brake bikes have accumulated for many decades? Disc brake bikes are over 95% of what's been sold(in terms of road bikes) in the last 5yrs. This isn't the slow transition EVs are making. Rim brakes are certainly archaic

    If I could add a small amount of critique to this session Alex, I thought you would have shown us what badly worn pads look like or tell tale signs of what to look for and more so how to toe them in with a nice camera angle of what this means, especially for squealing brakes. Last point is the one that made me buy a disc brake road bike. I can now finally buy some fancier wheelsets without worrying about killing them over time.

      24 unique gear ratios evenly spaced and easy to figure out and select. Who wouldn't want that?

    • @veganpotterthevegan
      @veganpotterthevegan ปีที่แล้ว

      @michaelsherwin4449 anyone who wouldn't want the weight and complexity needed to exploit that. Who wants to shift their FD every time they shift their RD? Even if it's electronic and done automatically, it's a terrible idea. It would also be very difficult to ramp a large chainring shifting from a small chainring that's nearly the same exact size.

    • @michaelsherwin4449
      @michaelsherwin4449 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not every time. Every other time. And if the sizing makes it difficult then that is the answer to my question. That is if you are correct.
      Edit: Not even every other time.
      If one is in the 50 gear up front and they want to shift down multiple gears because they are starting up an incline they do so. Then if they need a bit more they then go to the 46. Or similar depending on the situation. Weight? Bikes already have 2 x 12's.

    • @veganpotterthevegan
      @veganpotterthevegan ปีที่แล้ว

      @michaelsherwin4449 you'd also need a new FD. The cage geometry just won't shift up unless you have it set very high. Then you'll need a chain catcher to keep your chain from popping off to the outside too.
      Overall though, end if it worked, the benefits are very small since the gaps are still fairly big. May as well do an 11-40 with a 38/50 for quick changes at the top and/or bottom of climbs.

      You must be one of those that believe disk brakes make you a better rider... Actually I prefer to buy a used high end rim brake bike than one of those all-fluff-but-all-crap new bikes.

      @@cauldron101 I have a rim break bike haha, and actually refuse to a disc break bike because I ALSO buy used high end bikes with rim breaks
