Come down to the one in Madisonville Tennessee the one by Ingles and ask for a foot-long churro and a foot-long cookie and a foot-long pretzel. They are the best ever we make them hot and fresh even better. You can ask if Faith is there and ask her to make it that’s what mine.
Though the pretzel was invented in Germany and contained moisture, the original American pretzel was dry as the settlers removed the moisture as a preservation technique since this was before refrigeration. Subway wanted to pay tribute by replicating its likeness to show respect to the American settlers and didn't want to compromise the authenticity. That's why pretzels often comes with dipping sauce.
