    This is fantastic advice. I coach my students to walk through the bowling alley (of course only when there's clear space) while swinging the ball in coordination with their steps. A lot of beginners and seniors have no concept of timing the approach, and this exercise automatically coordinated the steps and the swing to a certain extent. It's usually enough so that they can get the feel for proper timing without making it too mechanical. I also have them walk up to the foul line from the back of the approach and just let the ball go from a relaxed swing. I also want them to post the shot after they release the ball. The challenge is to throw the ball no faster/harder than can be done while also posting the release position. I call this debutante bowling, like the debutante learning to walk with a book balanced on her head. Thanks for posting. Er, uploading; well, you know what I mean.

    It's funny that you just posted this video. I've been working on this very thing over the last two weeks. For quite some time now I've been battling with a speed range between 17 and 19 mph, with a fairly low rev rate. Maybe 250. I was trying all kinds of tips to slow my speed down, because I realized if I can get it in the 14 to 16 mph range then my rev rate worked to get the ball into the pocket at the right angle, but I was still struggling to slow down. I tried shortening my approach, making slow intentional methodical steps on my approach, eventually I decided to just eliminate the swing as much as I could. I held the ball directly down at my side, walked up to the foul line hold it back about 2 feet and let it come forward into my release. I bowled a 247. This eventually evolved into a very slight push out but really reducing my backswing, and letting gravity take the ball from my backswing to my release. It was a complete overhaul of my form and technique, but the net result is a 200+ game at least two out of five games. I'm also not injuring my wrist, tendons in my fingers, or anything else as the swing is so much more relaxed. I was never really trying to throw the ball hard, if anything I was trying as hard as I could to stop doing it it is not an easy change to make when you've been doing it for a while. It's hard to deprogram muscle memory.

    My best 3 game series I bowled was when I had a pinched nerve in my back. I wasn't even going to bowl after warm up. I gave it a go only because if I didn't force my downward swing I could bowl without pain. I shot 840 something. 😁I wish that could be repeated but old habits are hard to break. 🤔

    What can I do to raise ball speed 2-3 mph? I’m not old, just weakish and throw a 14lbs. I throw between 14-15 mph down lane but want to be about 17. If I am not supposed to use muscle and faster feet is to speed up ball speed a bit, what can I do to speed it up more?

    • @oscargarcia2011

      What I've been hearing is that ball speed comes from the legs.

    • @markfresh2000
      @markfresh2000 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can't say this will work for you, but I just went from 14 mph to 17 mph by bending my elbow on my downswing. It was an experiment, but now it's my normal swing. Shot a 770 scratch the first time I tried it and averaged 17 mph. Still shooting good this way.

    • @nevinkinzel
      @nevinkinzel 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's not necessarily a need to have 17mph down lane (says the short guy that continually has 17.5mph when slowing down 🤦‍♂️).
      Stronger push-off into your slide will increase speed with your legs. Also, a relaxed swing actually generates more speed than muscling- and does it consistently.

    Excellent advice JR. As an older player I have struggled with this. The reason (as I have finally figured out) was that I’ve lost a lot of my legs as I’ve aged. So naturally, my brain decided I needed more arm speed to compensate for less leg speed. You know what happens next… you actually lose ball speed when you muscle the ball, you begin to over grip the ball so you lose RPM, and as tension continues to build you lose accuracy as well. Then you feel totally lost and want to kick your dog when you get home. (LOL)
    But when you watch yourself on video you say, who is this herky jerky guy and when did he take over my game?
    Swing is the thing!

  • @crowdsurfpp2192

    23mph+ ftw stretch before heading to the lanes. 15 min of practice divided amongst 10-12 people, isn’t enough to read the lane and warm up the arm.

  • @strangeunidude
    @strangeunidude 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    One of the best ways I've found to feel when I'm using too much muscle is to throw the ball within a towel (in practice). If I am using too much force to pull down from the top of my swing, the ball will delay slightly and then be pulled down, rather than falling naturally. This has really helped to get the feeling of a natural pendulum swing rather than pulling it.

    Although I bowled a lot of duckpin and some tenpin growing up, I never used to think about any of this until I bought my own ball and now its like learning to walk all over again. I like to think its good and I'll at least get back to where I was, but I did strain my bicep a couple weeks ago and have been having to rest it because I didn't pay heed to this! Keep it up!
