My wife and I are in our 50’s and have “officially” only been bowling for 2 years. We’ve talked to several pro’s and watched several hours / 100’s of videos of instruction, tips and tricks to improve our game. This video, by far, has been the best video that we have watched! You definitely have a gift for teaching and we hope that you’re able to keep putting out more great content like this while spending time with family and taking time off from the tour! Thank you!
Thank you for your brilliant lesson! I am 67 years old and have always bowled straight. I am now learning the Right Way to bowl and your lesson is the BEST! I thank you from the bottom of my heart and equator! I have been dropping the ball until you taught me to be below the equator. You completely ROCK! Thanks again.
It's been a real up and down year for me. On week I shot 770 and two days later shot 498. I took a lesson from a pretty good coach and got better, more consistent. I watched this video before my normal Sunday practice and it brought everything together. Thank you Michael.
Your descriptions of #1 #2 are the best that I have seen on TH-cam. Most just tell you what to do without the informative explanation of why it is so important. Great Job!!
Mr. Tang, I'm 71 and a Lefty and that was the BEST ADVISE I had ever had. I fully understood everything you said and now I can't wait to go try it out tomorrow before our Senior League. THANKS again for your help and please make more of those simple videos for all of us. EXCELLENT
I’ve been bowling for 53 years and am now learning how thanks to your videos. I’m 70 yrs old and my average has improved 10- 20 points from high 140s to 165-170s within the last year. Also winning $ in tournaments. Thank you!
This helped me so much!!! How you explained the arm thing with the spring really helped because It made me realize I wasn't doing that I've been holding my arm straight and stiff if that makes sense. Also dropping the shoulder makes sense nobody has ever explained these things before
Michael, I cannot thank you enough for this video! I've watched hundreds of videos and yours is by far the BEST explanation. It finally makes sense! I'm sharing this with my coach, too. THANK YOU!
The description about the elbow facing your target, and the rotation of the arm being like a "spring" and naturally pronating/supinating is some pretty high level secret sauce. Fantastic instructional video.
Michael, great instructional video! About the part where you load the arm by turning the elbow into the body, at what point of the downswing is that tension released?
I wanted to say thank you for the short and sweat basics. I have been in a major slump going for 204 avg to 188avg over 11 weeks. Watching this video made me realize my muscle memory has me doing thing I fixed a your ago. My ball speed was down and just going back to practice after watching this made a huge difference looking forward to league again instead of dreading it. Thanks again!
This is such a great video. I have heard all 3 of these points mentioned before, but there’s just something about how you explain and demonstrate each of them that really clicked with me. Thanks for making this!
Love the mention of the position of the hands in a natural standing posture - arms down, with palms facing in .. and the loading of a spring analogy as the way to hold the ball .. Great video
Awesome instructional video! You kept the explanation on target. Breaking the focus into small parts and then providing a great drill to bring it all back together really helped. There was no shortage of information delivered however, the importance of understanding your body in its anatomically natural positions, and then using that knowledge to achieve something without having to do unnecessary things such as over rotating upon release is so important. I think it’s great that you mentioned that. Looking forward to looking at and learning from the rest of your videos!
@@tvbowlingsupply Thanks for the response! Will incorporate it in my next practice. Like a dummy, I was trying to do it in my push away. No wonder my swing was so muscled!
I’ve spent hundreds on lessons that have covered some of the points you just addressed, but I didn’t understand why Thank you for a clear explanation of why the elbow is so crucial for both targeting and power
Dropping the shoulder!!! Been bowling for 30+ years and this is what we were taught not to do! Tried this in my basement and it makes #2 and #3 so much easier! Subbed!
I'm 70 and just getting into bowling. This is by far the best instructional video I've seen yet. If these tips work for me, I'm gonna buy my own ball and shoes! And a fancy bag to put my new ball in. Thanks much! Mark in Portland, Oregon
This video is EXACTLY what I have been searching for! I love the simple 3 concept approach, with one concept building on the other. I never properly understood the correct elbow orientation even though I have seen dozens of other videos attempting to explain it. You also explained very clearly why my ball often goes far left or far right, which always frustrated me! Thank you so much. You are a natural teacher, so keep up the good work!
I love this video, especially explaining the importance of dipping the shoulder 🙏. Got a tournament today so will put this into work today, wish me luck 😁
I started bowling at age 13 and quit at age 58 ten years ago, but this video has given me new hope. At age 19 I averaged 215 on laquer lanes with a Columbia white dot plastic ball, I was not a power player but a stroker as they used to say. When I hit oily lanes I was dead, couldn't generate the power, and never knew why until just now, going to try bowling again, thanks for a great video.
The best bowling video I've ever seen. You explained everything in detail regarding the release. Keep sharing bowling techniques that any bowler of any age can use to improve their games.
This is the best information anyone has ever explained about the bowling shot. No teacher has ever explained this, probably because you wouldn’t need lessons after perfecting this. Thank You Mr. Tang!!😊
I’ve been working on this as a 2 hander and for some reason I can get my shoulder low when I back up ball but regular I can’t get it low. Been taking lots of videos and drills but nothing has been able to create that feeling for me.
I for one, have been keeping the shoulders level forever, however, after seeing this video two days ago, I tried this new style, for me, and have never felt better throwing the ball!...Thanks Michael
I agree 100% w/ all the other comment's. You have explained this the most understandable way I have come across. In layman's non-technical terms. Keep up the great work and thank you and TV Bowling Supply for the video. FYI: I know your name was at the intro, but you should put your name in the heading so that people like myself know it's you in the video. Example: Michael Tang w/ TV Bowling Supply or TV Bowling Supply Present's Micheal Tang. Thx again.
Thank you for the concise explanation. When I took bowling lessons (in the 1980's) we were all taught to NOT drop our shoulders. I've struggled with early rotation and late release ever since. At times, this even led to a number of different hand/finger injuries. And when I sought private coaches about 15-20 years ago, none of them placed such an importance on these elements either. It makes me wonder why so many important fundamentals in bowling have been kept "secret" for so many years.
I dig the instructional content. Most 1 handers with a lot of revs incorporate a bent elbow in order to get under the ball. How do you accomplish that? Muscling it or just kinda using the intertia of the ball to manipulate your hand and elbow in a good position? Ive tried just cupping my wrist with a straight arm but it kills my wrist.
I have been trying to bowl for the past 10 yrs as a straight bowler. This video has been the best instruction video. This video helped so much turns out im a back hand bowler and it naturally came out following your instructions.
Love this I just started to trying to get fingers under the horizon of the ball and was finding it very uncomfortable! Dropping shoulder made a huge difference with comfortability factor. Now it practice time !
All the things shown and explained were all 3 things I need to work on to improve. So helpful, explained brilliantly. Thanks Brother, I hope I bowl well Friday!
Michael, your instruction is just what I need to get me back on track with some great scores. I have been struggling with my bowling since my bout with Covid-19 in 2021. I have experienced all sorts of maladies trying to get my average back to the low 200's.
Excellent breakdown on how to create more power. I teach my students this drill all the time, and can't emphasize enough to do this drill as much as possible, to get that feeling on how to release properly with enough power. It's even something you can practice at how, just throw it on a matras with pillows at the end or in your backyard if you have grass or soft ground Keep up video's like this
Watched a bunch of bowling videos but this video is hands down the best one yet. The full breakdown of everything is so clear. Hope to improve my skills from this video as I just started transitioning from straight throw to hooking. Most amateurs shy away from hooking because they think they need to jam their fingers or mess up their wrist to hook the ball.
This video was really good. I checked if you had one on foot work and I didn’t see one. Not many instructional videos in fact but you’re explanation in this video where the easiest to understand that I’ve seen so I think you might do well to teach a little more. Thanks!
having started bowling during the suitcase era & had learned early to stay level w/ my shoulders & release the ball straight forward as you discussed. being left-handed I found that most centers back in the 60's & 70's didn't really pay much attention to the oiling pattern on the left side; resulting in bowlers throwing hard & straight from the corner or cranking the ball. I was a cranker growing up, & I had problems w/ skid as my shot would be like a tire on ice; turning wasn't always going to happen at speed; so I had to slow down my ball speed & I did that by lowering my back-swing. I was fairly successful, but not to the extent I would have loved. getting older & coming back from several surgeries I found that my body was weaker & I couldn't generate speed anymore. I also couldn't get my fingers below the 'equator' like I used to. I'm going to try your tips & see if that can't help me get back to what I'm wanting to do in my game. thanks for the tips.
I love the concept of simply “loading “ the forearm like a coil. That is really helpful. I am a 58 yr old (not very good) league bowler with 171 avg really trying to up my game. This makes more sense to me than any of the tutorials I have seen or advice I have been given. Great job!
Love this can't wait to try it. One comment, I learned this from a pro years ago. When doing any swing practice always swing back once first never swing forward then back. In drills you are creating muscle memory. We don't swing forward then back as we bowl. By doing so in a drill you are engaging the wrong muscles.
Im coming off rotator cuff surgery and struggling to get that consistency back. Watched this video and tried it last night at league! Bowled very well! Great information and very well explained! Thank you!!

I agree!!! GREAT video! You have an amazing talent of teaching!
Best video I've watched so far.. That's actually taught me.. Thank you so much

me too!
Amazing instructional video. Honestly one of the best explanations I have seen online . Keep these coming.
I second this. My thoughts exactly.
Same here !
I second your comment, I have watched MANY videos, and this is by FAR one of the best!!!!!
Agreed.
It's been a real up and down year for me. On week I shot 770 and two days later shot 498. I took a lesson from a pretty good coach and got better, more consistent. I watched this video before my normal Sunday practice and it brought everything together. Thank you Michael.
Top notch young man!! I’m almost 55 and and this has NEVER been explained this easily. You are ahead of your time young man! Thank you! 🙏
I agree! Alot of people make videos but don't really actually explain things well or thoroughly like he did.
enjoyed the simple approach, thanks for keeping it understandable.
Your descriptions of #1 #2 are the best that I have seen on TH-cam. Most just tell you what to do without the informative explanation of why it is so important. Great Job!!
This is best example of unpacking the modern release that I have seen.
My man thats the best instructional video on all TH-cam, GREAT JOB!!
Seriously the best and most concise video I have ever seen explaining the modern release.
I'm 64, shot my first 800 series last year, averaged over 210 five years in a row, and I just learned things. KUDOS young man!
Dude 800 at 64 is insane!!
One of the best instructional videos of positioning of your arm n dropping your shoulder. Would love to see more on hand release at bottom of swing
Mr. Tang, I'm 71 and a Lefty and that was the BEST ADVISE I had ever had. I fully understood everything you said and now I can't wait to go try it out tomorrow before our Senior League. THANKS again for your help and please make more of those simple videos for all of us. EXCELLENT

I enjoyed this content a lot. Never even thought about how not lowering your shoulder gives you that arc.
Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate and share these tips! Great lesson!
Agree. Probably the best set of tips to improve your bowling I have ever seen on the web. Very clearly articulated, as well. Nicely done! 👏
This helped me so much!!! How you explained the arm thing with the spring really helped because It made me realize I wasn't doing that I've been holding my arm straight and stiff if that makes sense. Also dropping the shoulder makes sense nobody has ever explained these things before
You are a great teacher. Best illustration of an idea. That's why I liked and subscribed.
MOST excellent.!! You have a talent for making things understandable. Easy to follow explanation and better yet, it makes sense.
Excellent instructional video, keeping it simple. Just turned 80 and never too old to learn. Thank you!
Outstanding instruction, very clear and easy to follow.
All the things that I kept trying to make happen in my swing but simply illustrated in this video! Great job Mikie! Love these vids. Thanks
Excellent instruction and explanation for non-pros. I'm going to be practicing dropping my shoulder immediately. Thank you, Michael.
One of the better videos for teaching, great job. Love him and his brother. Great guys!!!
Michael, great instructional video! About the part where you load the arm by turning the elbow into the body, at what point of the downswing is that tension released?
As late as possible!
This is what I need. I struggle getting the ball close to my left leg and getting under the ball. Thanks for this. Great vid.
I wanted to say thank you for the short and sweat basics. I have been in a major slump going for 204 avg to 188avg over 11 weeks. Those shoes have BOA’s!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO. Definitely saving this in my bowling archive.
You’re becoming a great content creator.
As others have said here, this is literally the best video I have seen explaining these concepts. Excellent work and keep the videos coming.
Great video
Excellent vid Mike, high end info that you make super easy to understand. Thanks!
Love these vids. Suoer well articulated poimts. As well as really well executed demonstrations. Love this stuff, cant get enough honestly.
Absolutely beautiful breakdown on all three steps. Thank you for putting such excellent content.
Michael, you’re very good at explaining these things in terms that I think most people can understand.
Thank you for the simplification. Concise and straight to the point ✌🏾
Great explanation, looking forward to doing this drill at my next practice.
Follow-up question on loading the elbow and arm like a coil. When do you start the load in your approach?
When the ball starts dropping from the top of the swing! Thanks for the super!
@@tvbowlingsupply Thanks for the response! Will incorporate it in my next practice. Like a dummy, I was trying to do it in my push away. No wonder my swing was so muscled!
I’ve spent hundreds on lessons that have covered some of the points you just addressed, but I didn’t understand why
Thank you for a clear explanation of why the elbow is so crucial for both targeting and power
basic and beneficial. shoulder down demonstrates the mechanics of the swing very well. easy to understand.. thank you
Dropping the shoulder!!! Been bowling for 30+ years and this is what we were taught not to do! Tried this in my basement and it makes #2 and #3 so much easier! Subbed!
Clear, concise, and practical instruction. Great job!

As everyone else said already, this is an exceptional instruction video 👍
Hands down best video on the internet on shoulders collapsing! Thank you, i'll try to implement your tips on my next practice session

Easy to listen to your instructions Mikey. Love all your content and merch.
Just absolutely AMAZING VIDEO! Agreed with all the other comments. TOP 5 video lesson of all time. BRAVO!😊
Loved the tips Michael! Bring on some more.
Great video Mikey!!! Save to my bowling instruction play list. I will be practicing all 3 every time I get out there!!!
Excellent Video. Best I’ve ever heard it explained. Great job Mr. Tang. All Intermediate Bowlers need to see.
OMG I needed to see this. This is what I have been missing in my release. I will go practice this tomorrow. THANKS!
One of the best explicit teaching on bowling tips that i've seen so far ..great job !
The best bowling instructional video I have watched! Thanks!
I love this video, especially explaining the importance of dipping the shoulder 🙏. Got a tournament today so will put this into work today, wish me luck 😁

When you go for spares are you doing the same exact swing? Just lining up on the dots differently?
Nicely done, love the shoulder drop, ball under head and your hand should naturally turn as it does at your side and it comes up.
More videos like this! Great explanation, easy to understand. Very effective. Can't wait to roll 500 revs, lol.
Excellent video. Instructions were broken down and easy to follow. Thank you.
Nice. I'm 65 and a semi power bowler. Love the lessons!
The best bowling video I've ever seen. You explained everything in detail regarding the release. Keep sharing bowling techniques that any bowler of any age can use to improve their games.
Nice and clear explanations. Been working on a lot of this all week. Perfect timing.
