When British POWs build a vital railway bridge in enemy-occupied Burma, Allied commandos are assigned to destroy it in David Lean's epic World War II adventure THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI. Spectacularly produced, THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI captured the imagination of the public and won seven 1957 Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Alec Guinness), and Best Director. Even it's theme song, an old WWII whistling tune, the Colonel Bogey March, became a massive hit. THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI continues today as one of the most memorable cinematic experiences of all time.

Great movie...but the actual bridge is steel, not wood and still in operation when I was there in 2006. The river was beautiful and clear. The P.O.W. museum showed the absolute horror and extreme torture the Japanese inflicted on captured soldiers...I will never forget that. Thank God we have peace now. 🙏✌️♥️🇺🇸

It was not just one bridge they build, they tried to travel Thailand entirely over land by train because of the sea being too riskey

It not supposed to be a true account of the facts, a documentary, but a fictional tale inspired by real events. An allegory about the struggle between duty and emotional attachment to a work of one's own genius or skill.

He essentially used those women as slaves. Why the hell would you think that they should treat him as a king? You obviously don’t have any respect for women.
