      There is a reason we call them Supercars. Imagine getting a 1,395 kilograms (3,075 lb) car up to 300 Km/h (185 M/h) and it looks like a box. And they are not just fast on a straight, they corner and go up and down hills at high speeds.

    I was there, I live at Mt Panorama for real, I'm in the video when JB is meeting the crowd. What an amazing day it was. Having grown up in Bathurst it was always a discussion topic how an F1 would go around the mount. Well, now we know. I got to have a brief discussion with Jenson and asked him a couple questions. I specifically asked him why F1's couldn't race around Bathurst? His response - "aside from the track being too narrow, the fact that the track is convex (to allow for water run off) and not flat meant that the FIA wouldn't deem it safe for F1." He also said he probably could've shaved another 10sec off his time (1:48.888) but he was under instruction to not push too hard as it was just 1 week before the 2011 Australian GP and the team didn't want to risk losing a driver due to an accident so close to the start of the race and the GP season. Jenson was actually a fairly decent guy to talk to as well. I'll never forget that day and man, that sound. Hearing that F1 echoing around Mt Panorama was sure something. I got some excellent footage and images from that day. I hope we get to see another F1 here again some day. Living at Mt Panorama has it's perks ;) cheers.

      @The Scruffman don't bother with the 1000. Do the 12hr instead. Far better race to watch plus, having all the Supercar manufacturers set up displays with their latest makes down near pit straight is fantastic! One of the best car shows you'll see. In 2018 I seen a McLaren Senna, a Pagani Huayra (which was unbelievably well engineered to the point where it was art, Porsche GT2rs, Ferrari 812 Superveloce, Jaguar XJ220, Genuine original GT40 (not the modern remakes) Alfa Romeo 8c, TVR Tuscan (which was fairly ordinary tbh. Also their color change "paint jobs" are actually vinyl wraps and very poorly done too. Seeing the Porsche 911 owners club there was also very cool. They had about 200 911's from across 70 odd yrs there on display. So many fantastic cars there. If I could share the 1400 photos I took over the week it was on I'd do so. So yeah, do the 12hr man. Far better. Ohhh, and as a bonus, there's no bogan bs there for that race either lol ;)

    I live in Sydney . 2 1/2 hrs away from Bathurst . Been to that Track Many times . By World standards it is a GOAT TRAIL .
    Narrow and rather Bumpy . It surprised me the F-1 could go across the Top without Bodywork damage .
    There is about 350 metres Elevation difference between Pit area and the Top of the Circuit .
    Coming back DOWN is where I would expect the F-1 to snag some underpinnings .

    Bathurst circuit is amazing, having been there 5 times for the race it's certainly is amazing the drop off through Skyline down to Forest Elbow is absolutely wild. At night I've walked the circuit and damn it's tough, I've also driven around it the morning after the race and at the dipper and Forest Elbow my car a V8 EB Falcon bottomed out and that was at only 60-70km/hr, 60km/hr is speed limit and the coppers patrol it heavily during the race weekend.

      @The Scruffman when Lowndsey was driving I was at the bottom of Conrod straight / the Chase in front of Ridges, on his first lap he obviously wasn't used to the F1 brakes. Jenson wasn't breaking until the 50m marker (which was bloody amazing to watch). Lowndes, obviously used to the V8 Supercar started breaking at just before the 100m marker and almost came to a complete stop before the 50m marker. That cost him a lot of time but it was the first lap or sighting lap so no biggie. His remaining laps were on point though. It's unreal how well a F1 car brakes.

    Bathurst is not a Grade 1 track, so the F1 car was not allowed to run flat out. It may have been restricted to 90% throttle, but I am not sure.
    It was running the aero package and gearing for Albert Park, which means that the top speed would probably be quite a bit higher had the car been configured for Bathurst.
    I have been to V8 Supercars, F1 and NASCAR races. The V8s are comfortable without hearing protection, as was NASCAR at a road course or 1.5 mile oval. The F1 cars from the early 2000s to 2013 required hearing protection, though you get away without it for a short period. From 2014 hearing protection is not really required.
    I did watch a NACSAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway, a half mile oval. There the sound was contained in the stadium and with 40 odd NASCARs running around it got very loud. Definitely need hearing protection there, and the sound is not as pleasant as the cars are on road courses.

    Having gone to the Melbourne F1 Grandprix in 2017 i can tell you the sound they make is incredible. I Do want to get up for a Bathhurst one time, But the sound difference between the v6 turbo current gen engines and the old v10 car is like miles apart in volume. Think that was a v8 version of the engine then. great video though

  • @DavidJones-pi8rl
    @DavidJones-pi8rl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The video is 10 years old and Jeson retired from F1 about 3 or 4 years ago. The current F1 car is significantly larger, heavier, and more powerful than ever. But they are significantly quieter! The F1 car in the video was a Mercedes 2.4 litre normally aspirated V8 whereas the current cars use a 1.6 litre turbo charged engine boosted with hybrid energy recovery power.

    When the F1 car came to Australia it was geared and set up for the Melbourne race. So it hit the rev limiter in top gear very early on conrod straight. If they were to ever actually race at Bathurst they would go much faster.
    Unfortunately the track would have to be modified so much to meet the F1 safety criteria that it would ruin the circuit. This was only a promotional thing for Vodaphone.

    Honestly taking an F1 style car around Bathurst is crazy - obviously the possibility of animal collisions is higher than normal but even without that the rise and fall is something those cars are not designed for - hills yes, small mountains no - the chances of them becoming airborne is altogether too high on that sort of circuit.

    • @THXn11
      @THXn11 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL. Smh. I'm calling bs on this one. Those things generate so much downforce, even at low speed they're not going to get airborne. As for the animal problems? yeah, well it's Bathurst. The only race in the world where the flag marshals have a kangaroo flag. Hitting one in an F1 would be horrific. A bit like the deer strikes that were seen at the old Hockenheim track in Germany.

    • @alphaomega7191
      @alphaomega7191 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THXn11 - F1 cars get airborne altogether too easily if they lose contact with the ground and a mountain circuit like Mount Panorama lends itself to cars doing that. F1 cars are designed to generate a lot of downforce precisely because at their weight to power ratio they are kind of like little rockets/planes their power makes it possible to launch them if you can get the nose up. Link to a F1 vid of them getting airborne - as you'll see if that front gets off the ground even a little it can be pretty disasterous and there are places on the Mountain where it would be very easy for the front to get off the ground. It's the reason why you dont see tracks with steeper elevations used for formula 1 because

    The great thing about Bathurst is, anyone can drive around it. It’s a true ‘road’ circuit (though the police are often there too). The most amazing bit is the ‘big dipper’ - it is super steep down - video doesn’t do it justice. I spent many years visiting my daughter in Bathurst and did more than a few laps of the circuit in cars as well as bikes. Hitting the ‘Dipper’ full boot on a Kwaka ZZR 1100 is one of the funnest things I’ve ever done.

      Yeah pretty much. It's why I've been a fan of the 12hr in Feb for the last 10yrs or so. Far better race to watch imo and a way better atmosphere and no bogan bs.

    No offence to you dude, but that was a pathetic broadcast from the Aussies, ummmm yeah I'm an Australian but to have those frigging hot drivers and cars and not mention power, rpms and flipping lap times is like playing football and not keeping score! Freaking ridiculous 😜🤙

    🥰🥰 Jensen Button one of the hottest F1 drivers. Craig Lowndes is bit of a player & 🍆 as a person ie he is nice to his good looking fans but rude asf to the less than attractive ones. Have heard from a trusted source his wife is a player that is fond of guns and alcohol though.🤣🤣🤣 but when $$ and fame is involved people often change. Not always but often.
