The story of the Mostert win in 2014 is amazing, started last on the grid, 2 big crashes early in the race, a lap down halfway through the race, car held together with duct-tape and prayers, one of the youngest and oldest in the field, no one gave them a shot and they win it in the last sector, truly the greatest motorsport race ever
If you can find some, check out footage of Bathurst in the 1960s, the days when it was a purely production race. There were different classes and categories, all on the track at the same time. That is how it all started. There are still some of us around from those days and we remember it fondly. Anybody who owned a car, that could pass the scrutineers inspection, could enter the race. It was so much fun back then. 😊🎉❤
Some of the old races when multiple classes were on the track together are great to watch. Check out some 70's and 80's Bathurst action.
Larry Perkins raced several F1 grand prix way back. The bloke Ingall was talking to at the end of the '97 win, was the late great awesome Barry Sheene.
Larry Perkins was 47 when he won in 1997. As mentioned below Perkins started 11 F1 GP's in 1976 & 77 for Boro, Brabham, BRM and Surtees.
Re the track blocking accident at The Cutting, the two drivers having a bit of a chat about it, Greg Murphy and Marcos Ambrose, they loathed each other.
The oldest winner was Jim Richard, 55 when he won with Mark Skaife in 2002.
Bathurst is my home town, I can drive the track every day. Check out Peter Brock describes a lap of Bathurst
