    Pascal is a seriously a crazy good drummer. Not only is this specific video very hard for a drummer to cover, but combined with all the other covers that Pascal has nailed, I think it's safe to say this guy is a friggin beast!

      Yeah they go into tons of detail about the exact equipment but if you hear the difference in the 2 snare sounds they made 90% of that is in processing and not in just picking a different snare.

      Vulfcompressor

    • @zynthio
      @zynthio 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Jack Stratton says he doesn’t usually spend that much time on the Vulf mixes. And he hits everything pretty hard with the Vulf Compressor. From there it’s not really that hard to get close

  • @bendayze
    @bendayze 3 ปีที่แล้ว +103

    Jack did a Reddit AMA where he talked about how he mid’Ed his drums and what his thoughts were on drum sounds for vulfpeck in general and his response was “keep the drums dry and the mics close” which is exactly what y’all did! Hell yea!! Maybe you guys could do a video about how you could use their signature plugin the Vulf Compressor to achieve the sounds in tandem with the right drum sound and mic placement!

    • @pascal_thielen

    Because I live in a large city and practise a lot at home, I’m very used to the sound of muffled drums. I can see myself using this sound more and more, by accident and familiarity rather than by explicitly picking it. Nice video, nice drumming!

    Not a drummer, but here for Vulfpeck. I'm impressed by the simplicity. There are three pieces: bass drum, snare, and cymbal or high hat. It makes me think drum lessons are possible. Thanks for the video.

    I'd love to see and hear a recreation of the drum sounds on Nirvana's _In Utero_ album. The bombastic, Bonham-esque drumming of a young, prime Dave Grohl, the intimate, under the microscope, nowhere to hide, "put a mic on everything" sound/recording style and the huge drums (16"x24" kick, 14"x15" rack tom, 16"x18" floor tom, 8"x14" maple snare). I think it'd be very fun and a great challenge.

    Thank you for this very inspiring content. I love the vintage sound of Vulfpeck and also the grooves of Cory Wongs solo project. I try to use this "less is more" technic when ever I play drums or also percussion. Most of the songs don't need this overplayed styles in this genre.

      @@ArtOfDrumming my clue is this video in the beginning: th-cam.com/video/AWBUnr0F3Zo/w-d-xo.html
      Camera sound and mixed sound are waay too different. I know they should be, but it feels like magic turning that sound into another. I have some background in mixing but still it seems to be too hard to achieve that sound without any samples. I might be wrong, and it would be great to see a mixing breakdown for that sound.

      This is taken from the original Vulfpeck video and they actually explained that in the comment section of the original video stating that back in the day fender bass was an overall term for electric bass. Of course this is a music man 👍🏻 Aaand for a little more insight: music man was founded by Leo Fender who also built the music man basses the first couple of years 👍🏻
