He totally got the correct feel of the song. He got the grove, something many of the drummers that have come through have not been able to do, even on simpler songs. He killed it! Bravo!
For a man that could literally drum the place to the ground to be so humble and make this very smooth beat outside of his realm work so well is commendable to his character and the training of his big teacher octopus 🐙
Eloy just completed a masterclass world tour, I went to see him in Belgium and man... this guy's unbelievable talent is matched by his awesome personality only. What a cool dude. He even made fun of me (twice!) because I asked him if he used the ankle technique for his sick double bass skills. Needless to say he couldn't care less about what he uses, so long as it works :) Loved every minute of it, both on and off the drums.
I absolutely loved what he came up with. Theo's playing is very much in the pocket and groovy but I absolutely loved his version too. It had a lot of character.
Wow! Dude turned into a r&b drummer very fast! I have so so much respect for this guy! Impressive! What a humble man! He is truly one of the best today..
I had not heard of Eloy or Sepultura before this video, but I'm a huge Vulf fan. I enjoyed this immensely! As a percussionist, I understand the feeling of tearing myself down when I've felt that didn't immediately nail a groove, as Eloy playfully mentions a few times here. But he was a very thoughtful interpreter, and was able to tune into subtle elements without any hints. Knowing to keep that 16th note feel on the HH throughout. Building gradually through the pre-chorus and the bridge. Adding half-measure fills right before the hits. Even deducing hits as hits. (It was also just cool to hear fills and ornamentations that move around the kit a little more than on a typical Vulf song.) I really respect Eloy's musicianship & his ability to cater to the song regardless of his background! This is a great series to demonstrate these exercises, and to prove that polarities don't always have to interfere with the integrity between a piece and its player. Thanks for this video!
Not surprising at all! Brazilians are usually not very outspokenly confident, since this is extremely poorly seen in brazil. Also brazilians are known for seeing themselves worst than foreigners. We even have a term for that, "mongrel complex".
A talented and versatile drummer, I am thrilled to see him playing with Slipknot. His performance on this song was absolutely wonderful and tasteful, fitting perfectly with the style.
Eloy did an amazing job of this. But lets take a moment to realize how good Theo Katzman is at this while carrying amazing vocal duties at the same time. Theo at Drumeo? I'd love to see that.
He underestimates himself. That's an incredible cover. I didn't know the song, I don't listen to this kind of music, but wow, he made it groovy, technical, impressive, interesting! Big congratulations to him!
Love his "positive frustration" he conveys here. There are points where he's obviously struggling with getting parts and structures down, but he's always doing so with a smile. Can tell he loves what he does. Then in the end he does an EXCELLENT job capturing the spirit of the tune. How he thinks he ruined it is... unbelievable. He did so great.
Eloy is a beast, and it's pretty cool to see Vulfpeck picked for him also, brazilian accent when speaking english is one of the most noticeable we have, if it's not someone who began speaking in childhood or someone who lived decades abroad, it's really strong, and i really love how it sounds
HOLY shit, this guy is an absolute monster. Just absolutely blown away by this guy's skill; he grooves very deep in the pocket and plays such tasteful fills. Possibly the most impressive of these "Hears for the First Time" clips.
The fact that he asked to practice so many times is just as impressive as those who got it in a few takes; it shows a lot of character on his part. Kudos! Super groovy drumming.
Now that Sepultura have retired, I wish Eloy gets the WORLD CLASS gig he deserves. And make no mistake about it.. he can handle every possible genre... Living drumming legend
Doubt he would have the same freedom to shine and be creative in Megadeth (or Slipknot as some were wishing). He is masterful and a creative drummer, no doubt his next gig will be great anyway
@@spirothegamer He is brazillian... playing in the most important metal band from Brazil is, at least in my perspective, better than Megadeth. Just see Kiko, from Angra originally: Megadeth is bigger, richer and has more fans, but Kiko had more creative freedom, he was mixing different styles, composing crazy stuff... what World Class would mean for the musician? If it is all about a bigger band, he can play for Taylor Swift.
Eloy is, without doubt, one of the greatest drummers of his and any other generation - his ability to adapt to any style of music is obvious and his adaptation to this song was masterful, given the immediacy and time limitations. Stunningly good.
I love Eloy. He’s just a genuine musician. Final take was great! Not a drummer or a metalhead though but it was a soul song interpreted through the language of metal. I loved the bridge with the high hat work.
He was absolutely fantastic … his parts were so complementary to the song … full respect he is awesome. So humble, right in the pocket the whole time and very creative. One of the best in this series .. and the whole series has been fantastic
I love that he really wanted to nail it and did a bunch of takes. Also that little off-beat groove in the cowbell bridge part was tasty! And that final groove with ride and the open hi-hat on the 'e' of 1 was sweet.
Eloy did awesome and we sit hear wondering why he is so hard on himself. But then you realize that same drive for perfection has been the fuel that has driven him to the level he is at! Amazing.
Eloy did a fantastic job. To me he showed the anxiety and passion of wanting to get the part right for the song. Killer job and thanks to Drumeo for a very cool video!
Drumeo - you guys are MURDERING it. First ever public adress by II, first ever vid the legend Mike Portnoy makes coming back to DT... and then Eloy Casagrande playing funk/jazz music when Sepultura announced a goodbye tour.... Perfection.
Love how a Chad Smith, for example, takes on the task like “I will dominate this!” And he just rips it. On the other hand, an artist like Eloy is seemingly intimidated and “worries” his way through it. And yet they both end up in the same place; doing a fantastic interpretive, artistic, and entertaining job in almost no time at all. Fantastic exploration of human psychology and artistic expression! 😊
Reading the title, what I saw was insanely fast and powerful drummer from legendary thrash metal band Sepultura plays really hard Funk from Vulfpeck. Absolutely knocked it out of the park.

Trust me Eloy, your hard work and dedication to your craft is noticed and appreciated. You’ll forever be in history books.
Eloy is amazing. to the point where i wonder what the appeal of Igor is lol! Truth of the matter Eloy is a new kind of beast. Pure injection with the right notes.
Only time I hear the noise is when I am travelling over 70 mph.
It could be what we thought it was all along.
And now he's Slipknot's new drummer
Are there any Cavaleras in Sepultura still?
@@kwyatt261 No, and haven't been for a long time. Max left in '97, Igor left in '05. The two have been in Cavalera Conspiracy since like 2008 or some shit.
His feel was so incredible. I felt as if Steve Gad was playing this track. He held back so much and didn't shred on it. He was very humble. He's a perfectionist, so he'll always be hard on himself. He totally got the correct feel of the song. He got the grove, something many of the drummers that have come through have not been able to do, even on simpler songs. He killed it! Bravo!
So impressive how he threw himself into the process. You smashed it Eloy!
Didn't literally every drummer here also throw themselves into the process? is there any other way to do it?
ELOY Has a Natural Talent! And Has a Heart in Every Song!! Merry ChristMas!
That final take was absolutely slamming! Unreal! Eloy did a fantastic job.
(It was also just cool to hear fills and ornamentations that move around the kit a little more than on a typical Vulf song.)
I really respect Eloy's musicianship & his ability to cater to the song regardless of his background! This is a great series to demonstrate these exercises, and to prove that polarities don't always have to interfere with the integrity between a piece and its player. Thanks for this video!
Theo Katzman and Joe Dart is just an evil rhythm combo. One of my faves of the past decade! Way to go Eloy!
Dude, there's nothing you need to apologize for. You made 11 minutes and 20 seconds of my day alot more enjoyable. Thank you.
Not surprising at all! Brazilians are usually not very outspokenly confident, since this is extremely poorly seen in brazil. Also brazilians are known for seeing themselves worst than foreigners. We even have a term for that, "mongrel complex".
Low key this is one of the hardest “Hears for the first time” in my opinion. Eloy crushed it!!
Watch Chris Allison plays "The summoning"😂
A talented and versatile drummer, I am thrilled to see him playing with Slipknot. His performance on this song was absolutely wonderful and tasteful, fitting perfectly with the style.
Such a class act. Knowing his work through his carreer it doesn't surprises me how good it was.
I loved his attitude, you could tell he legitimately dove in and wanted to do the best he could even though it's totally out of his wheelhouse.
Eloy did an amazing job of this. But lets take a moment to realize how good Theo Katzman is at this while carrying amazing vocal duties at the same time. Theo at Drumeo? I'd love to see that.
😮
Literally one of the best first time playthroughs in the history of this series. Please relay all of this love to him. He is so hard on himself.
The way Eloy was anxious, makes him bring all the intesinty he used playing this song. It was awesome!
Eloy is the goat. Incredibly humble but at the same time did an awesome job at coming up with funk drums, considering his metal background. 🫶
the "aiiii" before he hears the song is tottaly Brazilian ahahah. love him!
Eloy’s version was incredible! Lifts the song into another realm!
This guy is pure gold, his drums are full of music, even without other instruments, and he's a really cool guy. It's really hard not to love him.
Eloy is a beast, and it's pretty cool to see Vulfpeck picked for him
also, brazilian accent when speaking english is one of the most noticeable we have, if it's not someone who began speaking in childhood or someone who lived decades abroad, it's really strong, and i really love how it sounds
This may be the most polished performance in this series, he absolutely knocked this out of the park IMO.
Perhaps the most difficult track so far and he absolutely NAILED it. What an incredible talent!
Lol check whiplash and tool
Brazilians are soo kind and humble. This guy is no exception. Talented drummer too 👍
HOLY shit, this guy is an absolute monster. Just absolutely blown away by this guy's skill; he grooves very deep in the pocket and plays such tasteful fills. Possibly the most impressive of these "Hears for the First Time" clips.
Orgulho do Brasil, cara!
The fact that he asked to practice so many times is just as impressive as those who got it in a few takes; it shows a lot of character on his part. Kudos! Super groovy drumming.
Nem todo Eloy usa capa.... Éééééé do BRASILLLLLLL🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Os gringos não vão entender o trocadilho... hauhauahauahaua!!!! GÊNIO, xará! 😂
kkkkkkk
Genial seu comentálio, camalada!!!😂😂😂
Wow the amount of respect to the song 😮 what a humble and professional guy 💪
Aprobado!, grande Eloy y Drumeo, gracias, saludos desde Chile
Now that Sepultura have retired, I wish Eloy gets the WORLD CLASS gig he deserves. And make no mistake about it.. he can handle every possible genre... Living drumming legend
Sepultura is a world class gig...
@@faustomadebr In a sense yes, they tour the world- but they are not the same magnitude of say Megadeth. That's what I mean by "WORLD CLASS".
He’s perfect for Slipknot. I hope that works out somehow.
More Eloy! This guy is phenomenal!
When technique, musicality and humility coexist in a musician we can’t do nothing but admire him! 🔥🔥
"I'm gonna respect the sound" 2:34
That's my friends is what a good musician do!
Amazing Job.. His Groove!! The end part felt like Gospel Church.. WOW
Love His Version, and what a humble and down to earth guy... Brilliant ❤
He was absolutely fantastic … his parts were so complementary to the song … full respect he is awesome. So humble, right in the pocket the whole time and very creative. One of the best in this series .. and the whole series has been fantastic
WOW what a groove! WOW ELOY!!! NO WORDS! JUST A GENIUS!
I love that he really wanted to nail it and did a bunch of takes. Also that little off-beat groove in the cowbell bridge part was tasty! And that final groove with ride and the open hi-hat on the 'e' of 1 was sweet.
super tight groove there!
Eloy did awesome and we sit hear wondering why he is so hard on himself. But then you realize that same drive for perfection has been the fuel that has driven him to the level he is at! Amazing.
Genuinely loved Eloy’s version. It sounded so funky and lively. Definitely put a smile on my face, and isn’t that what music is supposed to do?
His version is just absolutely perfect. Perfectly groovy and fun
Perfection.
I think Eloy crushed this low volume funk classic, great video for sure!
Vulfpeck is a crazy pull! I found Joe Dart and it led to finding Vulf obviously. What an interesting group, great grooves, this is awesome
For me it was Cory Wong (fellow Minnesotan) that introduced me to Vulf. I love their happy bouncy funky sound
“And I love you all”
We love you too, you absolute legend.
You bring me nothing but joy.
Just blew it outta the park....❤
Best performance yet in this series
"The end was good, i did almost the same thing". 🤣 Great effort Eloy. One of the best drummers in the world atm.
Somebody said he is so humble... That's why is simply an amazing musician, he always worried to do the best in the song.
Reading the title, what I saw was insanely fast and powerful drummer from legendary thrash metal band Sepultura plays really hard Funk from Vulfpeck.
Absolutely knocked it out of the park.
Que honra ouvir um baterista brasileiro como o Eloy tocando Vulfpeck.
Dupla honra será quando Cory Wong conhecer a doidera chamada Cacau Santos ❤
honra pro Vulfpeck
This is one of the best channels. I enjoy seeing musicians out of their comfort zone and being able to use their creative skills to come up with a great, new version of a song. He was not even close to ruining this song. Great job!
he did a pretty damn good job considering he said hes never listened to them before! :) shows what a true talent the guy is!
Fantastic video to watch one of the world's best drummers do a song outside of his usual genres. Love his humor and perfectionism and frustration! Way to be a great sport, Eloy! Thank you!
his take has more life than the original. after that people can't say that Metal drummers aren't musicians. really nice Mr Casagrande.
