Nate Smith is now unstoppable that he found the rest of his drum kit
bahahahaahah
'k, hipster doofus.
@@capitanesejapitalism1679 LOL
Make sure guys that this will stay most liked comment here
That's a fraction of the kit he used on Kenni and the Jets
finally that fearless flyers money was able to afford nate smith a ride cymbal and a floor tom 🙏
ahahahhahahaha
Except on Tailwinds when he had a 93 piece drum kit. lol.
Drums are overrated, Nate is so powerful he could sit silently on a stool all night and telepathically inject the rhythm into everyone's brains
If anyone missed it, the song titles are all names of International military jet display teams. Blue Angels and Thunderbirds from the US, Red Arrows from the UK, Frecce Tricolori from Italy, Snowbirds from Canada, and Patrouille de France from France. ✈ Fearless flyers indeed.
This made me smile real big when I opened Spotify this morning. Love it
Wonderful! I needed this pointed out. Thank you!
Interesting thing is that Red Arrows scandal about sexual harassment and predatory activity. Ohwell ay 🤫
i would have noticed this but wouldn't have made the "fearless flyers" connection.
I want to say "duh" but I guess it's not common knowledge. my parents took us to air shows as kids and we saw most of these teams fly in person over the years.
Crazy how Vulfs music videos went from being recorded in a basement to being recorded in the Blue Note
And always quality with balance and space. Wow!
to be fair, their last album was recorded in a Sauna
call that fearless flyers IV bc i want this transfused right into my veins 😫😫🔥
goated comment
Soul transfusions could be useful right now!
Took me a second.. Good one..
I’d be dead without them IV
I want this injected into my veins, too 😩😩
Being at this show when Jack came out with the steadicam and they said they were gonna record the new album right then and there was one of the coolest concert moments I can remember
Did he share anything else about the album? Did they only play these 6 tracks?
this is the album@@ahvostik
They were playing a regular show and then halfway through did this and blew everyone's minds (and then did two other songs after) @@ahvostik
Joe Dart is one of this era’s greatest bass players
Funk-sutawney Phil predicting an early spring with this heat
'k, hipster doofus.
Best comment I’ve ever seeen
Bravo 👏😂
Cory's solo in Patrouille de France fuckin blew my mind. Going down in the history books for me.
It broke my brain when I heard it lol
And the way guitars overlap in the beginning, kind of swing feeling?
Yeah I was like "holy fuck"
and I involuntarily pull the same faces as Cory did when I hear that kind of sound
All my life listening to guitar solos...this is one of the most inventive, zero bullshit, most organic freaking great soloing I've ever heard, and coming from the greatest funk rhythm guitar player of the era.
6:19 Insanity. Nate said in an interview that he would have loved to collaborate with James Brown. The world wouldn’t have been able to comprehend. Long live the king.
i ALWAYS get extremely impressed with the precision and accuracy of Nate Smith playing drums. what a force of nature this dude is
For real. Everytime I watch him play.
He's like a metronome but better because of his tasty fills and high-hat work.
The man coaxes whatever exact sounds he wants with such calculated aggression. Truly a sight to behold
the discipline!
The thing is he could chop the audience out to a black fucking hole but he plays so absolutely restrained and the groove is so infectious. Insane insane drummer
This is the modern-day equivalent of Casiopea's "Mint Jams" album: recorded live, edited to sound like it isn't, and full of unbelievable amounts of groove
Totally agree
Eyyyy mint jams love in a vulf comment section
And so tight you wouldn't believe it's live
I remember that one
Mint Jams is still fresh af to this day
Every time we're reaching higher funky altitudes. At this rate, the boys are going to be The Fearless Astronauts by 2027.
Always nice to see Cory do some lead parts
I can't believe that's a live recording. Whoever are Miles Hanson and Noam Wallenberg deserve some awards.
The cameraman just needs to learn the set.
The Camerman is Jack Stratton rofl@@jim5148
@@jim5148lol its Jack Stratton
Nate's the jet engine, Cory and Mark are the wings, and Joe's the artillery.
Nate and Joe interchange their roles.
Artillery doesnt really fit in with the aircraft analogy. Sidewinder ftw. Nates the chassis cory and mark are the tires and joe is the toe nail clippers.
I’ve been waiting for this and it just drops suddenly, like no big deal, here’s some of the best funk music out right now.
Bro the amount of stuff Cory has been releasing the last couple years blows me away, I can't keep up with it
LITERALLLYYY
Holy shit Mark's solo on the final track. Chops and vocab off the damn charts!
The rhapsody in blue quote! Twice!!
@@davidgoeller5843 I KNOW!!!
Precision + economy = groove
Your equation checks out. 🙂
funk is when the space in between, the notes you dont play, has a pulse as well and adds to the groove! Also a well placed cymbal crash means the world to a funky groove! Killing it fellas!!
_Nate Smith asks for full drum set_
*_barely uses said full drum set_*
What a king.
I imagine it went more like this:
"Nate, you're gonna be playing with the Flyers at the Blue Note next week."
"Do they have a snare, hat and a kick?"
"Don't you want to bring your own gear? It's probably better than the house kit..."
"Do they have a snare, hat and a kick?"
"Y-yes"
And the Grammy for most funkiest shit goes to The Fearless Flyers.
idk how nate smith makes four on the floor feel so good. something beyond the notes he’s playing
Spacing
He sits right up on the beat, if you listen carefully to the snare he puts it just ahead of the hi hats, not enough so it’s on a different beat, but just enough to make it pop. Steve Gadd does the same thing. Dilla would create beats that did it to a ludicrous degree, but this is so subtle it’s hard to pick what it is if you don’t know what to look for. Hope that helps :)
@@jameswebster2605feels to me like for the first couple of tracks the kick and snare are clockwork, with a really subtle drag on the hats. That dilla behind the beat 'drunk' thing is way more evident in track three, but do you think in the other tracks there's still a push or drag on the kick/snare? Interested to know, I'm not a drummer
I feel like Nate’s style is to put most of his accenting notes in the ghost notes just outside of the 4 on floor beat, it’s perfectly peppered around. Much better sounding than somebody who just floods beats with unnecessary fills
@@bailzzzzzz It feels square but it isn't. It like a hand drawn square with nice rounded edges VS a perfect 90 degree square like a metronome. Billie Jean is the best example of this : you think it's perfectly square. But I guarantee to you it's not even close. A Casio is perfectly square : there is the same exact spacing behind every beat. Sounds horrible.
Only a robotic movement can have the same exact space between the hit and when you *lift* the stick, so drumming is like a dance! Any groove breathes. Pictures a swing : 4 on the floor only move the swing a little and it comes back quickly, but the spacing is not the same between every note. A swing feel is perfectly clearly showing that effect, and a J-Dilla beat is pushing it even further, to the point where the mechanism of the swing creaks and jam a little before going to the other beat. Does that make sense?!
That's why it's called a backbeat when you the snare, and that's why swing is called... swing! You can make a physical movement reference for any beat.
As a drum teacher this is my secret weapon lol
12 minutes in Corey had me doing the stank face with an unearthly solo. What a start to the weekend!
The start of "Frecce Tricolori" sounds so unapologetically Steely Dan. Love it!
It was originally titled “so-dan”!
literally Deacon Blues for like two chords
17:27 The first nerd to transcribe this solo deserves a medal. Nate Smith is the ace of aces.
If you know your rudiments then it shouldn't be that hard
@@throngalaxyxy2862 lol

It is the kind of concert where you feel like the band is just having fun, and you are just having the opportunity to enjoy with them.
I found this guys on Facebook in pandemic. A ray of light in my darkest hours.
what a week of vulf. i bought tickets to my first ever vulfpeck show and now FFIV drops? what is my life
What show?
@@Kebbie01it’s in austin on friday, april 5th
@@diigdugg same bro
Wait.. FFIV and Vulfpeck mentioned in the same sentence. Never expected to see that.
I guess we are really in the age of nerds. xD
@@diigduggbro I had no idea, THANK YOU FOR THIS COMMENT - i just bought my ticket too because of you
that joe dart bass is unmistakeable
Crazy move dropping this full album out of the blue no hype, no singles, no nothing. Love.
Cory, Mark, Joe, and Nate all seriously shined on this record
Just casually dropping this on a Friday morning with no warning!
At a time I was getting more and more bored of current music I stumbled over Vulfpeck. This lead to Vulf. This lead to FF. And my life is brighter now. Thank you.
I feel so blessed to be alive when this music is being created and shared. One of humanity's greatest expressions! ❤
TRUTH
Mark's tone on that Thunderbirds solo is B R U T A L
What a wonderful start into the weekend!
Mark has some awesome Takanaka tones going on!
Everone as amazing as always!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought Takanaka hearing some of those Mark lines.
Cory’s solo on 3 was so amazing!!!! I got chills…
He ascended. Really
These new vulf logos are so damn good
Blue Angles' groove is so addictive
Nate Smith scares me
Cory's lead chops are so tight on this album. All killer no filler
It's almost unbelievable how tight and clean all of the performances are. Being able not only to hear but see the skill evident in the playing is incredible.
Nate's solo from 6:20 to 7:12 is why I like music so much!
Yeah that was insane
what a hell of a nice surprise! thanks so much for being yourselves, Flyers!!!
That escalated quickly! Patrouille De France and Thunderbirds went full beast mode! i love some mean Fonk!!! And with Joe andNate you have the definition of Pocket at hand...
This is one of the grooviest, funkiest things I've heard in a long time.
That solo from Cory! 🔥
Great to see musicians at the top of their game, playing music that they themselves like.
An endless stream of funk? How is this possible
sir the levels of funk are too hard for our legs to sustain, we are forced to boogie!
Sit defying funk.
Compared to other FF projects, this album really felt like one big ride that we were invited to join.
love it so much. 25:00 is just completely insane, the groove, the guitar solo. but everything here is insane, love it, thanks for this.
some of this are instant classics... but thunderbirds is one of those that grow on you, and they keep growing with each listen. Mark's solo on that one broke my brain i will never be the same
Superb feels, chops and musicianship, as always! It feels good to see all these people in the public not using their phone and enjoying this tremendous moment! Music lives!
12:42 nice Stuff from my boi Cory, great solo
In tunderbirds the last track Marcs solo!!! 😮 i love how Joe stares at him the whole time almost in disbelief and laughing! Almost as if hes winging it and trying to find the right note or something, you can see the bewilderment in his face as joe just grins like a cheshire cat like GO IN THEN BROTHER! Then that last part where he stomps on the pedal and takes off! Oh my days what a performance
Cory is so fucking versatile now after the endless touring. Gonna be a good year for funk with ghost note putting out an album too. Please recommend more funky shit in the replies. Cheers
Ever heard Casiopea? The s/t and Mint Jams in particular.
Cody is the evil genius, Mark's the one that actually killed a guy, Nate is the driver and Joe's just happy to be here.
This is so funky. Easily the grooviest FF album yet.
I'm just happy to live in a world where my favorite guitarist and drummer can be in a band together
It’s like Jack Stratton wanted to build a band around all 4 of them but figured it was easier to put them all in the same band
Vulfpeck and these guys are the new ambassadors of funk music.
I have been listening to all the blue note shows. I just wanna tip my hat to the fantastic post production work. This project is top notch. I love it, thank you!!!!!
I love how the tracks are paired up: colors, foreign languages, and birds.
They're all aerobatic flying teams from different countries. Pretty cool that they all lined up on those categories, too :)
National aerobatic teams... fabulous flyers
@@joemoran7797 oh sweet! thanks for the info
Absolutely brilliant work... every piece, every part. My ears are stupid satisfied, and my brain is bigger now. These guys are killing it. Amazing.
21:54 to 22:08 WTF MAN?!! Just so damn funky Nate! Supporting solos like that wish such groove, funk, tension and release? Just masterclass and only one moment in time!! 👏👏👏
Insane that this is a live album
Absolutely love that you now have more mid-tempo, deep-groove tunes
Watching peoples heads snap back and forth at 6:00, going from the cool bass riff, to nates drumming, to the guitar lick, to nates solo, must have caused whiplash
Cory's eyebrow raise at the end of Snowbirds. The cat knows he nailed it!
WAOW WHAT A RECORD THANK YOU MR. FLYERS
It's crazy how they're all able to stand out at the same time
In my opinion, their best work yet.
I’ve never experienced stank face AND tears in the same situation. THANK YOU
im convinced that you could give nate smith a rock and he’d use his drum wizardry to make that thing sound like a full kit, he is hands down one of the best to ever do it
I like seeing Joe smile. That makes me smile
This is very much my favorite listen right now. It's stupid how good these tunes are.
At this point, I just feel like there isn't much more to say than thank you guys for what you bring to the world of music.

Any chance you can share which day/show each track came from?
Am I mistaken, but Nate typically plays matched grip? I know we played both, but I could swear from most of his solo stuff I see matched. Anyway, technique is still off the chart.
6:10 and Nate - holy smokes!
This is the best music to look at spreadsheets to. Thank you, guys.
Fearless Flyers IV: A New Hope
you know, this technically was their first album
That is some black magic stuff from Cory Wong with that Patrouille de France solo.
Peak fearless flyers, i cant describe how incredible this is
What a gig. So many great things but Cory's solo on Patrouille de France is incredible. 14.15 sounds like a jet plane screaming and diving at supersonic speed. Fantastic!
Saw Cory last week for the first time and when he told me a FF album was dropping in 2 days I couldn't possibly prepare myself for the amount of funk that was in my future.
This is my favorite Supergroup of all time.
Holy smokes this is awesome. Nate especially is killing it on the drums
That sort of sforzando at 2:00 mark is one of the tastiest plot twists ever
That whole drum pattern and fill around 22:00 is so good, must be so satisfying to nail that
Nate Smith. Nate effing Smith. My god, what a drummer.
Those first two tunes are actually jaw-dropping
amazing idea jack your creativity is overflowing!!
All the Vulf team has simply made our time something worth to be remembered forever
The Flyers with their funk etudes. Gotta love it.
These guys seem to be having the most pure fun in the music they're playing out of any group I've ever seen.
First track already a BANGER!
This better win a grammy next year 😫😫😫
Never stop making awesome music! Love you guys!
A truly masterpiece and a instant classic!
